I'm so sad to write this review. As a former Rivermark resident, I have loved coming to Cerulean Dental Spa. Dr. Yoo & Mike (Hygienist) were fantastic professionals. I want to specifically call out their B.S. related to their business and billing practices. I woke up to receive a notice that I had to pay $646.20 for treatments I received almost 4 years, what the heck guys? Specific statements like "Nonetheless, these are services that were provided to you, so we are unable to waive this balance." and "While we should have handled things more promptly, I hope you can understand that we have a fiscal responsibility as a practice, even when past follow-up has fallen short." This directly translates YOU (Cerulean Dental Spa owners) taking the hit. Additionally the payment was reduced slightly, because I called my insurance provider to walk me through all three services on my statement from Cerulean and they had specified that one of these should have been covered and they make a statement like this "With this, after discussing the situation with Aetna and reviewing the billing details, we have decided to waive $134 from your balance." But this is AFTER I decided to complain to insurance about this understand. Overall, it was a complete lack of communication but in order to penny pinch people, they are still chasing people down for things 4+ years later. Which is to me such a tell-tale sign of their practice and business health. I wish this would've ended differently because I have 0% trust or desire to ever advocate or support this practice like I once did. Boo!! read more

I am very sad to write this review. I've been going to Cerulean Dental Spa since I have moved to the Bay Area in 2005. Mike and Dr Yoo have been great. During my recent teeth cleaning with Dr Tommy Lee 2 weeks before my international trip in November, I brought up my concerns of one of my tooth located lower right jaw was in pain while chewing. I told him that the pain was last for a few hours which was unusual. His diagnosis was a common biting issue and asked me to use a warm towel to place on my right cheek to increase blood circulation. During the entire teeth cleaning, he talked about his travel experience. During my trip, the same tooth was in severe pain one day. I had to schedule a dentist appointment in a foreign country. The dentist identified a tooth crack and referred me to an endodontist for a root canal right away. The endodontist also stated that the crack didn't happen overnight. I am not only going through a long process of insurance claim but most importantly ruined my entire trip. With prior symptoms and major procedure 2 weeks after tooth cleaning, I highly doubted not even a slight crack being visible during the cleaning. If Dr Lee was able to be more focus on my concerns than sharing his travel experience, I would have a higher chance to get in front of it prior to my trip. read more

don't get your dental services here. They'll waste your time. So far, I've had 2 appointments cancelled. I had one on February 23 and on March 15th. The first was cancelled because they said the doctor had a family emergency then the second time, she couldn't find me in their appointment book although I had a string of text messages. Then she tells me " oh maybe you made an appointment with the other dental clinic in this plaza." As if I'm not good enough and competent to know which office I have made my appointment with. Their name is at the end of each text message and she tried so hard to make me sound like I had made a mistake. Very rude and unprofessional receptionist. read more

General cleanings are good and have been coming here a long time. However, when a family member of mine had a severe broken tooth with an infection, the doctor pushed the tooth further into the nerve. When my family member had an emergency procedure, they were told that the doctor could have paralyzed my family members lip for life. Although his intentions were good, I suggest that they should be more careful when measuring fractures. I also left a message on the emergency line last night and nobody returned the call. My family member had to schedule their own emergency surgery with a severe infection. I am glad that at least some other was able to provide the help we needed. read more

If I can give this dental office 10 or 100 stars I would! Cerulean Dental Spa has been my go-to dental office for all of my dental needs for the past almost 10 years. From the receptionists, dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, Orthodontist, they are all so welcoming and always make sure you are given the proper care and leave the office with a smile on your face. I also love that you can watch TV during your visits and request a blanket and pillow :) Huge plus for someone that feels at ease with blankets during dental tratments like myself! They also offer snacks and beverages in the lobby which is a nice touch. One of my friends was raving how gentle their cleanings were and after having been roughed up at other locations I gave them a shot. This was almost 10 years ago and I still love coming here...well, as much as you can love seeing a dentist. One of the biggest reasons for visiting is their amazing staff. The ladies at the front counter are always friendly. Summer, my go-to technician, the best. She is beyond thorough yet gentle during the cleanings. I don't know how she does is, but I can't recommend her enough. The dentist there are all very personable and are not trying to sell you unnecessary services. They truly care about their patients. I have gone to this office for general dentistry services such as cleaning, filling, crown fitting...etc for about 3 years now. The care routine for this office is that the dental hygienist usually would do the cleaning and the dentist comes for check up for about 5min. However I decide to stop going to them today. After going there for a routine cleaning today, I suddenly got a surprise bill for services that were performed last year. Apparently my insurance didn't pay them enough. I was especially annoyed with the condescending attitude that I received from the receptionist as I asked for the explanation. Been going here 13 years and counting. Awesome from top to bottom. Last night, had a section of my tooth crack off. This morning called them, they slotted me in no problem, once the problem was assessed, told me they have SAME DAY crown service (YAY) but it might be as long as 2 hours for the procedure. I was done and out in an hour and 20, with a very professionally done crown and in a few hours I can eat again! Not the cheapest in town, but wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Since there was the word "Spa" and I was looking to try a new dentist, it didn't hurt right? Best. Decision. Ever Making an appointment and getting insurance stuff situated was very simple. The office staff has a great response time (via phone and email). Everyone was very helpful and super friendly, I definitely didn't hesitate to fire away with any questions I had. In the waiting area, there are drinks and snacks available, perfect if you need nibble before your teeth is cleaned. During the teeth cleaning, I binged on "The Office" (got my relaxing time in!). Cerulean is like a fine wine, it just keeps getting better with age. I can't believe I've been going to Cerulean for over 12 years now. It feels like they haven't missed a beat (and have just gotten better) from the first time I went over 12 years ago. I now go with my family, and our (young) kids are thrilled to be going to Cerulean. I have been seeing Dr. Tommy Lee ever since I started going to Cerulean. The hygienists and the entire Cerulean staff are incredible. They are all polite and competent, and it's clear that customer service is a key focus. Dr. Lee is incredibly knowledgeable, and he stands behind everything he does. He is committed to dentistry, and not only has an incredible amount of knowledge, but also the latest equipment to provide the best of whatever it is you need. Cerulean has always been very clean with state-of-the-art equipment. During COVID, everything has been stepped up even more. Convenient location in a big plaza. Their front desk staff were all really nice on the phone and in person with all the precautions. The hygienist I got - Mike - was super nice, conscientious, and careful. Answered all my questions really thoughtfully and gave really good tips on dental care. (Usually I have the Goldilocks problem where the hygienist either barely does anything and finishes in 10 mins or the extreme opposite where you're pretty sure they've dug new canals in your gums) COVID stuff: Booked appointment, parked in front 15 mins in advance. Called them, they come out and take your temperature, check to make sure you filled out all their forms (which you should do on your computer because I did it on my phone and they didn't get it), they call you in when they're ready. read more

I have been going to cerulean dental for years. Dr Chen and everyone that works there is very friendly and helpful. The office takes many precautions for Covid. You get a survey to answer on your phone prior to your appt. When you arrive, you call from your car and get your temperature checked at the door when they are ready for you. Everyone is asked to sanitize their hands as soon as they enter. Each examination area has an air soap used to filter the air. For cleanings, it is back to the old pick way. My teeth still felt super clean after. I felt very safe during my visit. I've had some issue with stress and cracking my mouthguard so not going to see the dentist has not been an option for me. read more

I never thought I'd be reviewing a dentist's office, but here we are. I had a great experience with Dr. Mui and all of the staff here. I came to Cerulean Dental Spa on a friend's recommendation for a routine cleaning. My family dentist of 20+ years was no longer covered, and I was really dreading finding someone else. I've heard too many horror stories of people switching to a new dentist and getting coaxed into expensive procedures they didn't need. Because of that, I'm a little wary of any dentist's offices that are too "shiny" and fancy-looking. Cerulean seemed to fit that bill at first. They have a beautiful, clean office that's airy and bright, very different from my cozy old dentist's office. In the front waiting area, they offer snacks, tea, coffee, and bottled drinks. They even have Netflix shows for you to watch during your appointment! It almost seemed too good to be true. Luckily, though, he looks aren't just a facade for shady service. Scheduling was very easy. I called to make a first-time appointment, and I had one within 10 minutes. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful throughout the process. Best of all, they offer Saturday appointments! This is a huge plus for me, as my work makes weekday appointments impossible. Dr. Mui and the hygienist were efficient but thorough with my cleaning and x-rays. Since I was a new patient, they were careful to ask about my dental and medical history. Dr. Mui did the cleaning himself, which was a pleasant surprise (I've generally had hygienists do my cleanings). He was friendly, calming, and highly professional. I was in and out within an hour, with clean teeth and a goody bag to boot. Overall, I had a great experience and would highly recommend Cerulean. This is the best general dentist in Bay Area! Dr. Mui did my cleanings and exams and does a very thorough job. The hygienist is also very thorough and gentle. My teeth are always extremely clean afterwards. They always provide lots of photos and take the time to explain what all my options are. Frankly this is the only dentist that does not recommend any unnecessary produces so highly recommend to at least get a second option at this place, if not the entire treatment. Many other dentists recommended me treatments that Dr. Mui claimed was not necessary. However I would not recommend to get Invisalign here or orthodontic procedure as they are more expensive and take more time to complete. since this is a general dentist practice, I would recommend only cleanings and fillings here. An orthodontist specialist, especially an Invisalign Diamond provider, will give you the best results and has training and experience. I didn't have a root canal here but generally would go to Endodontist for that. read more

Very unfortunate to have to post this as I have been a loyal client for years & and have even referred them to my friends and family. I went in for a routine teeth cleaning last month in September 2021 during that time I was told that I needed a deep cleaning and they gave me a deep cleaning on the right side. I noticed when I left I had severe pain, sensitivity to hot and cold and severe nerve damage. When I called to ask if that would go away they asked me to come back in to take a look and also deep clean the left side of my mouth. I went back in only for them to tell me that my right bottom molar was cracked. I was in shock because my teeth were completely fine before I went in for a routine cleaning and now my right molar just happened to be cracked that day after my cleaning? I was very upset and asked them how this could be a coincidence when my tooth was fine before I came in. They continued to clean my left side and advised it would be $1700 to repair my cracked tooth. I asked them to fix it since they cracked it and they refused I have now filed a complaint with the dental Association and also my insurance. I can't chew at all on my right side & now have to pay out of pocket for their mistake. It's horrible because I trusted them for years. Sad. read more

Through word of mouth, I found this dental clinic in 2007, and have been seeing Dr. Tommy Lee and his team ever since for all my dental care. Never have any issues or negative experiences. Dr. Lee and his team takes care of their patients. Unlike the old saying about how people are unhappy when seeing their dentists. Mine has been just the opposite, the service matches its name, a "dental spa" or I call it "dental massage." Always enjoy my visits and left feeling great about my teeth. I've had different dentists in the past, what sets Dr. Lee apart from other dentists are: 1) his ability to delivery painless end to end dental experiences from exam, regular cleaning, and cavity filling. 2) he and his hygienists always greeted you with a smile with positive energy, which makes you feel warm and welcomed. Then they provided a quick overview on what they were about to do, step by step, allow me to ask questions before delivering the dental service. At the end of the service, they will show the "before" and "after" photos on the screen, explained what they have done, issues, next steps, recommendations and round two Q&As. They are very capable of explaining things and answering questions using non-technical jargon, easy to follow, and understand. 3) consistency: regardless of dentists, hygienists, and front desk staff, they are capable of delivering consistent end to end positive experience. I do not remember or track everyone's name, but I've interacted with many of them, and they are all very good. For example, the check-in and check-out experiences were seamless, easy fast. They are good at sending you appointment reminders and provide timely responses. Always professional, polite, and easy to work with. They respect their patients, listen well, and do their best to make it a safe and comfortable environment. While Dr. Lee and his team have deep dental expertise, knowledge, and experiences, but they continue to explore ways to deliver great dental experiences with new dental technology and devices. For example, I remember my first visit with Dr. Lee, where he used a medical device checking several of my teeth and found a cavity on a tooth his device did not touch upon. I was skeptical and asked him about this device's precision and accuracy, especially when he said the device's accuracy is 99.99%. And none of my previous dentists used this device. Dr. Lee did not get upset, he patiently explained with logics and reasons. I agreed to receive the cavity treatment, and he's right, that particular teeth indeed had a small cavity, he took a picture to show me. To this day, I still remember that conversation. The entire office is clean and organized, from waiting room, check in counter, restroom, and the treatment area. I feel very comfortable recommending this dental clinic. read more

I needed to change dentist because the one that I have been going to for 16 years was no longer covered under my husband's plan. I've passed by Cerulean Dental Spa since it was in my hood (and under my plan) so I decided to check them out. I made my appointment and was seen within two weeks. I was promptly seated by Tiffany, who was super nice and made me feel like I have known her forever. She gave me step-by-step information on what she was doing (being I was a new client) and while keeping up with the conversation, which kept everything at ease. I watched two videos about what they would be doing to me (X-rays and I forgot what the other video was) and then in came Dr. Landeros. He is a very sweet doctor. He explained everything that he saw in my teeth, backing it up with pictures or X-rays and left it to me when I should get the work done (I had cracked a filling but found out I had two baby cavities). He recommended I get the two baby cavities done next year so that my insurance will cover it since my cracked filling and crown will use up most of my coverage this year. I thought that was very thoughtful of him to give me that option instead of just 'Do the work now!' He was very gentle with my cleaning and the girls at the front were very helpful in sitting me down afterwards and informing me what my insurance was covering and what I would be responsible (for my next visit) and what I could plan for next year. There are Izze drinks, juices, waters and snacks in the reception area and you can choose between what shows you would like to watch during your service. They also put everything up on the flatscreen (Xrays, pics, movies..) so you are constantly looking at something (either for entertainment or informational purposes) and that helped the appointment go a lot faster. I'm glad I bumped into them and they are covered under my insurance. They are a really great place to go to. read more
