This review is for a last minute oil change that I needed before a trip up to the Bay Area. Good: -Took my car right away and told me it would be ready in 1-1.5 hours (I went for a stroll and came back at that time to find it ready). - Super nice guys, honest and friendly. Bad: -Base price for standard oil change $32.95 plus tax plus $2 disposal fee. I could go to a chain and get it done for $20-25. Price = -1 star. -Told me they would be checking my tire pressure. Obviously they didn't because I took my car for gas after picking it up and check it myself...3 tires at 32 psi, 1 tire at *20* psi. -Told me that they would charge me if I needed any fluids. I said DO NOT charge me or give me wiper fluid since I keep some in the trunk and I do it myself. My receipt? $3.50 charge for wiper fluid. This alone will not bring me back. Total cost for standard oil change: $41.82. Maybe this is the right place to go for a repair job but save 50% and go to a decent gas station or chain for the oil change. I don't mind paying for nice service but I'm not paying 2x for something simple and have them ignore my request and charge me 3.5x to top off my wiper fluid than what a whole gallon would cost me at Target. read more

Okay. I hate to be a stereotypical girl but when it comes to my car I'm the epitome of "that girl" and my car had no problem letting me know it's time to get me some service when the maintenance light came on. I called Cesar's Auto Repair and Cesar Jr. calmed me down, that my car wasn't going to explode or anything, it likely needed an oil change, refill on fluid, etc. You can't get better quality service and friendly at that! I came in and they took my information, took a walk around my car, and let me know they would do a general look over on the brakes, the oil, etc. I left my car at maybe 1:30pm and it was ready by 4:30pm. They did minor body repair by buffing out scratches from the top of my trunk (from when my garage door came down on the backside. Ugh), fixed up my bumper that had come unhinged somehow, changed the oil (thereby getting rid of the scary maintenance light), and even gave her a really good scrub down and cleaned the inside! They are straight forward and honest. You won't get upsold but they will let you know the necessity of certain repairs and what degree of wear and tear you are at for everything. GO TO THIS PLACE FIRST! You won't regret it. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This review is not just based on one experience here. I've been a few times to get things fixed. Out of convenience I have gone here because it is right up the street from me but after this last trip -- never again! They are not timely. Whenever I would call to see if my car was ready they would make me feel like I was inconveniencing them by checking up. I'm sorry, but I live in LA...I need my car. They are extremely rude as well. They criticized me for having a VW. The only time they were nice to me was when I was paying my bill! The last and final time I went in to get something fixed it was a part that I knew cost $5 or less, when I walked out of there I ended up paying $70. I've had to get this part fixed before and my other shop didn't even charge me! What a mistake bringing my car here. As I said, never again! read more

This is the only place I'll take my car to be fixed. I read bout them on a few other websites, and they had great reviews, so I decided to check them out when my car broke down. I'm so glad I did. They are a family run business that's been around since the 70's, and they really know how to take care of their customers. They've always been honest with me, and I've never felt taken advantage of. I hear they're expanding their business- so that must say something about the quality of their work and the care they show to the people who rely on them to get their cars up and running again. They can get busy, so don't expect them to be able to look at your car right away unless you drop it off first thing in the morning. read more

My 93 Acura Integra broke down in LA on Saturday morning. I took it to Cesar. Radiator was shot. Needed a new one. Unfortunately most shops, including this one, close in the early afternoon on Sat. The part didn't get sent over in time, so I was stuck in LA until Monday. Then on Monday, they sent the wrong part. The right one showed up just before noon. Just before the mechanics took their hour lunch break. I didn't end up getting out of there until 3:30. So I can't really fault Cesar for the totally broken parts distribution network in LA. In fact he warned me about it. However, he wasn't good at communicating with me about the status of things. He never called me; I had to call him and it was effort to try to get any sort of info or estimates out of him. He was nice and honest and the cost seemed reasonable. I just wish he had been better with communicating updates. read more

This review is for Cesar and crew checking out a used car before you buy one. This is a service he provides for a very reasonable price. $50 or $60 I think. You can go next door to the 101 Coffee House, or walk down to the really cool record store on Franklin next to Birds and check out records while they make sure you are not buying a lemon. As a car buying addict, Cesar saved me from making ill-advised purchases more than once. I still bought what I wanted, but he gave me the skinny on them first. I can't speak to the mechanic side of their business, but I like these guys and will give them a shot on that front. What they say makes sense to me, and that's a good place to start with an car mechanic. read more

My car started bucking and then stopping on the 101. A super exciting feeling. After stopping and starting all the way off the freeway, I finally just gave up and pulled over to give it a rest. That's when I noticed my car was overheating and I probably should do something about it faster than driving all the way home. Luckily, I broke down right across the street from Caesar's. First, he complimented my moccasins and we talked about shopping at Bass Pro. Then he said he would take care of everything. I've had repeated issues with noisy brakes, my check engine light and overheating (I drive a 2003 Nissan Sentra). Instead of trying to charge me for all of those issues, he isolated the fact that even though my coolant tank doesn't have any leaks, the coolant itself evaporates like crazy. So it cost me $40. No oversell on all the issues wrong with my car. He said the car was safe to drive as is, so there was no need getting into other issues. Just totally nice service. read more

I just would like to say that Cesar's Auto Repair has been such a huge help to me. I live very close by and any time I have a problem, Luis is there to fix it in a split second. I had a broken tail light and was trying to learn how to change it myself. I was a bit overwhelmed (and I have a PhD) by the instructions and went over to Cesars to see how much it would be. Luis fixed my tail light in ten minutes flat and only charged me $10! This morning, I brought them a driver's side mirror hanging 3/4 of the way off (gotta love those tight LA parking spaces) and he was able to find an after-market mirror and install it TODAY. He not only saved me from having to go to the nissan dealership, but likely saved me hundreds of dollars in excessive labor costs. I highly recommend Cesar's if you want a cost-effective and time-efficient way of solving your automobile needs...will definitely come again (but hopefully not too soon ;) read more

I took my out of state car in to Cesar's for a tune up and smog test based on the reviews I got here on Yelp. I was very happy with the service and would recommend this business without reservation. I dropped my car off in the morning without an appointment and it was ready to go shortly after lunch. They gave me a clear estimate of costs and performed the service without surprises (if you know what I mean). As honest as it gets!! I love Luis! My transmission has been slipping, car stalling at stops and poor acceleration. Its a 2002 Pathfinder with over 189,000 miles so I thought this was it. She was done for. I brought it in to Firestone several weeks ago. They charged me $99 for a "full diagnostic". Told me "Your transmission is slipping. We don't do transmissions, so bring it in to a transmission shop. Looks like you may need a rebuild". Oh no! despair... financial disaster... So on advice from a friend, I brought it to Cesar's. Asked them to give me the honest truth. How much? Luis popped the hood and checked the transmission fluid. Fluid is dry. How long has it been like this? I told him its been driving poorly for months. He puts in 4 quarts of transmission fluid, takes it on a test drive, comes back, takes me on a test drive.. It's fine!!! $20.. that's right, TWENTY DOLLARS!! My old car is driving, stopping, accelerating... smooth as silk! Dumb jerks at Firestone charged me a hundred bucks and did not even check the fluid!!! Luis is an angel. They gave me an estimate and were able to come in under it because they were thorough and found the problem to be something small and easily fixable. They're a small independent business in a neighborhood that is being redeveloped with luxury apartments. If you live in the area, and need your car repaired, go see them. Otherwise we'll be forced to go to corporate chains that will have no motivation to ensure your satisfaction because they'll be the only game in town. Three Words: RIP OFF ARTIST One Word: Unscrupulous Went once for a simple tune up and had the week before filled the wiper fluid (one of two things I do myself for car maintenance). At pick-up I saw they charged me $5 for wiper fluid and they also changed spark plugs - which are not needed on a bmw until the 100k tuneup (this was the 50k). A few years later I forgave them because of the convenience of their location and took it in for another check up. Same issue on a bigger scale - told me I needed $3500 worth of work (went in for an oil change). While it was an older car, I took it for a second opinion elsewhere and not only were their quotes cheaper - they found smaller but crucial problems that Cesar did not address. Note: They did not know they were a "second opinion" garage. This is a garage for avoiding, even if you break down on the street in front of it. read more
