I went L&L to get the rear brakes on my BMW replaced because it's close to home and the reviews are good. Luis quoted me one price for the estimate and then charged me an extra $100 when the service was completed. Since when is labor $250 to change rear brakes? (no rotor work required) The price was 40% more than the dealer quoted me! And after I drove away, I realized that he had not reset the break sensor on the car. I called him to find out why. Instead of correcting it immediately, he suggested I come back the next day because he couldn't figure it out. I had to go to Youtube to figure it out for myself... And now my brakes squeak when they are cold... What a costly and extremely disappointing experience... read more

Not the most honest auto mechanic in the neighborhood. I had a flat from a nail and have toddlers so i wanted to get a patch work done. I called ahead before if he did patching which is taking the tire off, sanding, and patching. Which obviously would cost more. He said he did after i explained what kind of work it was. I arrive and he charges me nearly $40. Cash. I saw my tire and it looked like it was just a plug work. I asked him and he said he just plugged it. Plug work only would cost about $20. So he charges me double and just plugs the tire. Not the most honest mechanic. Wont consider coming back. read more

I've only inquired with them for a quote on service, but from that experience alone, I thought I'd share to help others decide whether this shop might be the one for them. For the service I needed, a transmission rebuild, they're right in the middle of the pack. For that, I don't ding them any points since their pricing is fair, neither high nor low. However, whoever I spoke to on the phone gave me a crazy laughable lowball offer for my vehicle in case I'd prefer to sell. I say crazy laughable because another transmission shop I called prior offered double, in line with about what Carmax would. Take what you will from that, but my first impression is definitely on the sleazy side. read more

I'd been laying off buying new brake$ for about a month before I came in. I did my homework and called around to local shops and got about five estimates- with and without new rotors, because I know when you get new brake pads you should at least get the rotors shaved (or "machined") down to wear evenly on the new pads. Seems like some places only want to sell you brand new rotors every time. I like when machining them instead is at least an option. Of all the calls I made, L&L was $50 less than the next lowest price I got quoted for a set of front brakes. AND they had an opening right then. Other places said they were booked up until the next day. I raced over and spoke to the owner in person (who i'd spoken with on the phone). I like his straightforward but polite and even funny way of talking to customers. My car was done within an hour. I was happy with me service here, but wanted to wait to review just in case any new issues developed afterward. In that time, my back brakes started squeaking. I brought my car back -again without needing an appointment- and Luis helped me figure out it was the back set of breaks this time. I told him I noticed that the squeaking would stop if I pulled the emergency brake, which he informed me was an indication that the sound was from the rear brakes. Again, the service was fast and the same very reasonable price. I was a little wary of how low the prices were here, but it's been several months now and the quality of service and parts is excellent. Don't pay more somewhere else! I recommend L&L to everyone I know for brakes- they're the best. read more

Luis was super nice, understanding, and helpful. I came in crisis after my car engine had misfired on my way to work. He charged me, and replaced 3 spark plugs, and unfortunately the car still didn't work. HOWEVER, he warned me that the spark plugs were no good too and that they might go bad soon afterwards. i came back the next morning and he replaced the remaining spark plugs, completely free of charge! He is a great and honest worker who knows what he's doing. 5 stars for sure. read more

When I called them they picked up quick less then two rings, Luis pick up and introduced him and the shop politely and asked how he could, I had told him "I need to have my fuel pump tested, I'm pretty sure it needs to be replaced. Do you have room, I need to have it towed over; Can I have it dropped off at around 1:30? He said sure no problem and was even able to work around the tow truck being late, i didn't get it dropped off until 2:45. When I dropped it off I reassured him I just need him to test the fuel pump, that I already ran diagnostics with a OBD meter. I told him I ran the codes and that I tested my alternator and after I replaced my spark plugs and coil packs as regular maintenance. And then told him just test the fuel pump. I asked what he would quote me ona fuel pump replacement. Dude said not sure I gotta take a look, I'll let you know. I then said "No dude it's the fuel pump just test that and what's it gunna cost to replace it?" If you know about fuel pumps It's a simple Job if you have basic training on cars and tools(High School Auto class would suffice). I would do it but I just don't have the time right now, had to fire some people and I'm making up on there work. Any ways dude calls me at 4:10 (Their Garage closes at 4:30) and says, "Yep! It's the fuel pump, I checked a couple other things and they were good so I checked the pump and it's done, you gotta replace it." I legit was laughing with surprise, then told him "Dude I know it's the fuel pump I told you that, but hah how much will it cost to get it replaced?" Then Luís quickly said $545. I was shocked and said I'll call him back if I approve the replacement. Dude the exact stock part cost $50 from Auto Zone... Called my mechanic buddy and he said no no it easy you can pay me 100 and I'll come to your house and do it. So I called Luís back, I told him that's way to much and I can't afford it. And my friend will do it for $100. So I'll have the tow truck come back real quick to get It. "Oh sorry Dylan we are closing right now at 4:30." So I just said tomorrow. When the tow truck arrive the next day, due charge me $80 for a full diagnostic. And then ask me how much and where I found the part for, I told him Auto Zone has the same stock part for $50.00, so it's gunna cost me $150 total and he was looking embarrassed cause he thought I was some dumb ass pot head. Then told me "I was going to replace it with a German Delphi I legit laughed out loud, "Dude it's a 2006 Scion with 200,000+ miles... Not a race car ahah I need it to work like normal." And he didn't really have anything to say after that. Didn't offer any discount. For me having told him So really In other words if you don't mind having the typical 'mechanic price gouges' or if you don't know anything about cars. Luis would be perfect for you. He'll over charge you on labor fees and put on extra pricey replacements that you don't need, just cause. He didn't actually work on my car, so I can't rate his service that, but his customer service was great for the most part. But in my opinion he tried to gouge on the price. read more

Louis was so great. My check engine light went off on my Toyota. I saw his reviews on Yelp and stopped by L & L Auto Service. It's conveniently located near my home in WeHo. He was friendly, honest and told me he could do a diagnostic check. I left my car for about 45 minutes. He called me and notified me that my engine sensor was broken, there was a gasket leak and my spark plugs needed to be replaced. I knew it was the truth because a Toyota dealership told me the same thing -- but tried to charge me $3,000! Louis did it for $519! Brakes sounded like an 18th Century gristmill. Parked the car for the weekend. Based upon Yelp reviews I called L & L since it is within walking distance. Luis told me to come on down. I did. Within minutes they diagnosed the problem. Having had brake jobs in the past I expected this one to be expensive. It wasn't. A little over $200, and done in about two hours. Had a brake light issue on my Ford Escape. Fords have tail light covers that are a bit of a pain to remove to perform the maintenance myself (believe me I tried) so I took my car over to L & L.
