We've been going to Legit Automotive for years. They are always honest and reasonable. They always try to identify the specific problem and fix it, without a ton (any, really) up-selling. Gary and Greg will flag issues, but they'll tell you, "You can wait on this...but you may want to get this done." It's never, ever a hard sell, it's about what's best for the maintenance of the car and for safety. This place is the real deal. My car needed some serious maintenance after a couple of cross-country trips this summer -- new tires, a new battery, the works. These guys are the best. I've gotten my oil changed many times here, two tire replacements, and fixed a few brake issues. Service is very quick and everything is explained up front. Gary and Greg are very friendly and nice, I have never had a moment where I doubted their honesty or integrity, costs are clearly broken down and more than fair. They frequently do small things for free out of kindness, such as replacing brake lights or patching a tire and will refer you to outside shops or stores if there's a better price elsewhere. These guys are LEGIT! Before I came to them, I went to two other shops and they had no idea what was wrong with my car. Zero knowledge and obviously no expertise. So, not knowing what the problem was with my car, I brought it in to these guys. And with just looking at it from the outside, they told me what they thought it could be and said they would call me with a diagnosis and the overall cost. Within a couple hours, they had told me what the problem was, which was indeed what they initially thought and how much it would be to fix it. By the end of the day my problem was fixed! Turned out to be a suspension issue. Something with airbags leaking. Great guys with great prices. Extremely professional. Happy I found them. We live nearby and sought them out when the dealer who sold my girlfriend her Audi was calling for $5k of work after we took it in for an oil change. Gary and Greg gave a full diagnostic and changed the oil and air filter for under $100. More importantly, they gave us an honest assessment and the confidence to lose the Audi dealer's and other mechanics' numbers forever. Couple of things: 1. I almost never write reviews. Not because I'm some review elitist or something - I'm just a normal guy that's busy like everyone else. However, sometimes I have an experience that just warrants one. 2. I meant to write this review about 3 months ago right after I went to Legit Automotive, but life got in the way and I kept pushing it off. However, the reason both of those points matter, are because it just goes to show that my experience with Legit Automotive was so positive, that I actually sat down to write a review and it was still on my mind to do so months later. So here's the story - Problem: Sputtering sound when my car was starting Initially, I went down the street to a different shop, left them my car for a few hours, and when I returned, they told me that they couldn't figure out the problem as it wasn't happening for them, but the car could either be fine or have a major issue (kind of a big disparity there). I even showed them a video I had taken the day prior of the issue happening, and they still weren't able to help (this shop had otherwise been solid for me in the past, so I was surprised that they couldn't handle it). They then recommended that I go down the street to Legit Automotive to see if they could diagnose the problem. I drove up to Legit Automotive and was immediately greeted and directed to the front office (no awkward looking around of where to go / who to talk to, etc). I told the gentleman the issue I was having and told them I had a video. I showed them the video, and they INSTANTLY told me what the problem was. The owner also came over, introduced himself, was incredibly friendly, also listened to the video, and had the immediate same conclusion as the first guy. After that, the entire process was seamless and handled very professionally. I left my car for them to fix, and they communicated with me every step of the way before doing anything / confirming price, etc. They even found another safety issue with my car that I was aware of (but didn't know the extent of how dangerous), that they offered to do a temporary fix for free so I could avoid a much bigger problem until I was able to fully fix it later (it required body work, which they don't do). This is a family run business and it feels like it. It's very professionally run, with great communication, fair prices, and and overall comfortable experience, which is key for someone like me that doesn't know much of anything about cars. DID THEY PAY FOR ALL THESE FIVE STAR REVIEWS?!! I took my Ford CMax here after a friend recommended them. She said they were honest and gave her a good deal on her car repair. Mind you, she is probably the worst judge of character of anyone I know, but let's just stick to the facts. I already knew the engine likely needed to be replaced, since I had already taken my car to the Ford dealership, but they said they wouldn't be able to get to it for another month, and the guys at legit said they could get to it right away. I needed a car so I could work, so I brought it to them. I had a gig out of town and my brother kindly let me borrow his car while Greg and Gary were at work on my car. Greg called me while I was working and said they found a used engine for my car and they could give me a good deal and replace is for $3,000. I didn't have the money, but I needed my car so I told him to proceed with the repair. They got working on the engine, only to tell me the next day that they cranked the engine and it still wasn't working and that my car's transmission was also bad, but they can give me another "good deal" and replace the transmission with a used one for another 3 grand. I wanted to just get rid of the car and sell it for parts, since I wasn't anticipating paying over $6,000 for a car repair when that was what I payed for the car in the first place. He rushed me into paying for the transmission, saying those transmissions are hard to come by, and if I don't act fast I might miss out. Since I was at work, I didn't have time to do research or find out if there was any other option. Greg pressured em to make a decision fast, saying at least I would have a car and maybe I could get back the money I put into the car when I sell it. I gave in once again and the guys got to work. A few days later my car was ready for pickup. I had to put the repair on two different credit cards and one of them was declining. I believe it was Greg or maybe Gary. I get their names confused but whoever was taking the transaction had the nerve to tell me maybe I need to raise the limit for a single transaction since that's what he had to do because his wife likes to spend more than $5,000 on a single shopping trip. 'It must be nice,' I thought as I got my brother to put the other half of the repair on his credit card, promising him I'd pay him back once I get the money. "By the way" he said "your AC wasn't working when we turned the car on. Was it working before?" "Yes it was." I replied. That was the one thing that worked great and was working perfectly fine, even when the car wouldn't drive anymore. He told me I could bring it back to them and they'd check it out for free, and that they washed and cleaned my car out for me. I thought the gesture was nice, but something didn't feel right. It was October when this all happened so I wasn't desperate to have the AC fixed so I just left it as is, until my dad came to town and offered to take a look at it a few days ago. My dad wasn't too familiar with my car, so he took it to a repair shop to get a diagnostic on the AC. The people at the shop told him that my car needed a new compressor, but the fittings on the compressor could not even be taken off, because they didn't even know what they were, so he had to take it to an air conditioning specialist place. They said the compressor was super easy to take off and replace. My dad believes that my old compressor had likely been replaced with another compressor that wasn't made for my car. I'm not making any accusations, but I highly suspect that the guys at legit auto took my compressor and sold it to someone else, so that they could get more money out of me for the wife who likes to go on $5,000 plus shopping sprees, which fortunately I didn't do. You can see some of the other bad reviews people gave for legit automotive, and see that they have done similar things to other people, stealing their good batteries and replacing them with bad ones so they can dishonestly double dip. I'll let you be the judge of that. I've had so many bad experiences with repair shops. An honest car mechanic is hard to come by, but I have encountered one, just not at Legit Auto in my opinion. I was going to give them a one star review, but I didn't want my review to be hidden, and they did fix a coil for free when I took my car back a couple months later. I don't know how they have so many five star reviews. They sure are charming when you speak to them and they'll tell you they're not like other mechanics and they'd never do you wrong, but I listened to my gut that was telling me otherwise. I hope someone can catch them if they're doing shady stuff, because it's difficult to prove. I wanted to tell my story so you can be the judge of whether you think they are honest or not. read more
