What's a great little gem of a place. From the moment you come in the staff and ambiance are welcome and friendly. Woven throughout is a healthy dose of humor with a dusting of pretentiousness. I really enjoy C'est La Vie, specifically for brunch. It is located in an old house and has a very eclectic and artsy vibe. It almost has a homey feel and the servers are always friendly. Their food tends to be hearty and comforting. A few dishes I have tried and enjoyed include: - The cassoulet, which is not a traditional French cassoulet at all, but it is comforting and filling. I would give it an 8/10 (ask for extra bread). - The baked brie is really good and comes in a big portion. I would give this a 10/10. - Le Jardinier is an open-face veggie sandwich. It has a lot piled on the bread, so it can get a bit soggy, but it is a good lighter option if you do not want one of their heavier dishes. 7/10. - The gratin is sooooo good. It is a super decadent mac and cheese with thin slices of prosciutto. 10/10 - Chaider (not a food item) is my favorite drink. It is a mix of chai and apple cider 10/10. - The duck house potatoes and eggs are good, but if your eggs are overcooked, the dish can be a bit dry since there is no sauce. This cute cozy little spot has the best vibes and even better food. I ordered the special which was a corned beef Benedict as well as the crème brûlée French toast and both were fantastic. I also got an iced latte which was very yummy. Good quality coffee. The service was also pretty good. They have outdoor seating now available on their patio and the indoor seating is very cozy. The hostess sat us at a back room where the furniture was shabby. My chair almost fell apart. A portion of the wallpaper or fabric next to our table had become unglued. I have lived in many towns in France and C'est La Vie is a very good replacement if you crave anything remotely resembling breakfast cuisine. Very cute French style bistro. It'll transport you to a quaint laid back European town. I visited this cafe during holidays on my visit to Boston for Sunday brunch. In spite being crowded, the service was fantastic and homely. Our server Paul was very sweet, friendly and provided some great recommendations. We ordered crispy Brussels sprouts, baked Brie. The food was delicious. Gougeres were a bit dry. Their in house cappuccino and latte were also too good. Coffee was freshly roasted. Try going in before 9AM, it fills up very fast. When the check came they charged us $2.50 for the ice, they reduced the charge for the late meal by 50%, not100%. We were then told that if you byob there is a $30.00 charge( no mention of this on website).Additionally, 18% gratuity over 5 people, never mentioned. never going back!!!!!!! read more

One of our favorite brunch spots when we are in Massachusetts. We always order the Chaider which is a mixture of chai and cider, it's excellent either hot or cold. On this visit we had the gratin which has a blend of cheeses and thin slices of prosciutto topped with bread crumbs. It is creamy and delicious, highly recommend. We also ordered the Chicken Cassoulet which comes with crostini (I always ask for extra as you are only provided with a few pieces) and a side salad. It's a very comforting dish consisting of chicken with beans and vegetables, also one of our regular orders. This visit we also ordered the Le Jardinier Tartine which was an opened faced roasted vegetable sandwich. It was very tasty, we will definitely order this again. This restaurant is placed in a home like setting with different themes in each room. The host is the sweetest and very attentive and so are the staff. We enjoyed the ambiance which felt like we were sitting in a friend's house enjoying their fabulous breakfast. All the food we had was delicious. They make their own crepes. I still very much love the food here but now I've noticed that the menu changes a bit based on who your server is. Once I was able to order chocolate chip pancakes with strawberries and another time a server told us rudely it wasn't an option. Then another server told us it was fine. I love the food and want to keep supporting them but this inconsistency made us annoyed. I'm happy to order whatever is available but the servers need to be on the same page. read more

C'est La Vie Bistro is the cutest little brunch spot in Northborough, MA! My best friend lives nearby so she took me here when I was visiting her recently. The restaurant is adorable inside with a very homey feel. We got lucky because got seated right away on a Saturday afternoon. We each ordered hot chai lattes and mine wasn't as hot as I would've liked it to be. My breakfast was excellent! I ordered the sweet potato, goat cheese, and green bean omelet which sounds like a weird combination but it was tasty, especially with the goat cheese. My friend seemed happy with her dish too. When a child at one of the tables was crying, one of the staff brought her a stuffed animal to play with. What a sweet gesture! Went for brunch. Super crowded, which just shows the popularity of the place. Interesting furniture and cutlery - all mixed up and even antique. It was different yet a nice touch. We were a group of 6. Coffee was awesome. One of the best I have had in recent years in a US restaurant. The waffle was bit undercooked inside. Had an amazing experience here on a weekday morning. The ambience is amazing - the restaurant has dining rooms on multiple levels of a house, including an outside patio. Everything is so aesthetically pleasing!! The menu is diverse, and they have both breakfast and lunch plates with lots of options. Many of their items included a meat, but there were a few vegetarian things too. Hot coffee was particularly good. I got an omelette which came with toast and potatoes. It took quite a while to get an omelet with cheese and tomatoes for my daughter, who was really hungry by then, and the fruit cup we ordered never made it to us. The vibe of the place is quirky, with mismatched chairs and cutlery that give it a kind of eclectic charm, but also made it feel a bit thrown together. (I wonder if they collected some of the items at yard sales or dumpsters) I had the Benedict, which was solid, the eggs and sauce were great, but the croissant it came on tasted a bit stale, which was disappointing. The owners of C'est La Vie Bistro put a lot of love and attention into designing their restaurant. There was so much charm in the little details throughout the garden and the interior decor. Other than the food, I think this is what makes this restaurant so special and popular. My friend and I decided to meet for brunch halfway from where we both lived (I live in Lincoln, RI, she lives in Littleton, MA). Northborough seemed like a reasonable spot and a new place to explore. The scenery during the road trip was idyllic. I ordered a special of the day, Eggs Benedict with Roast Beef on toasted English muffins and a side of roasted potatoes. It was ok, an economical choice for the restaurant, but I think the slow roasted beef ribs I saw in a photo probably would've been way better. My friend ordered the Crème Brûlée French Toast, which she thoroughly enjoyed--highly recommend! This place is packed during the weekend, so I highly recommend placing reservations for groups of 5+ a day before. The wait time to be seated is about 30 minutes on a Sunday. Overall, I would definitely come back here with my family for the museum-like appeal of C'est La Vie Bistro. I had a great time taking pictures of all the delightful details wherever I looked. However.. the menu rarely changes so we don't find ourselves returning often. The prices have gone up and up.. disproportionately to other restaurants in the area. My breakfast today came with toast and I asked for some jam, jelly, or honey to go with it. They happily provided a tiny container with a ~tablespoon of jam.. then charged me $.50 afterward! Fabulous service all around. From hostesses to server, this place will melt your workday stress jitters away. Alain(sp?) was our server and he was a treat to engage with. My husband likes to logically weigh all details of the dish, assess which has most protein, then select the dish with most comfort food-ness to it. He chose well. Their signature Eggs Benedict was exceptional. (out of all EBs hes ever consumed, he rated this one a solid 7 out of 10. he's from NYC mind you) The typical english muffin was swapped for a buttery croissant, the bacon & ham was cooked perfectly, hollandaise sauce flavorful, and eggs pouched just right. The roasted potatoes on the side had good texture. All around good example of how EB should be done. I am a "surprise me" type of gal (soon as I sense the server Knows their menu inside out, that is) I was recommended the Chicken Cassoulet. No disappointment here. The scolding mini pot was not overpowering, rich in flavor. Slow cooked flavors of merged tender pork, pulled chicken, caramelized onions, etc with crumbles on top made you feel considerably full, despite its petite portion. Three lightly crunchy baguette slivers offered this dish creative combo options for each bite. The salad was carefully shaken with an undistinguishable/unpredictable vinaigrette. My 8 yr old selected the burger (le burger?) with veggies on the side, of course (he's not yet convinced that he's not actually allergic to vegetables). The fries were fresh, not greasy, and had good bite/texture. The buttered brioche gave it a nice touch. I wish the beef patty was a bit more complex and juicy, but honestly.. come here for the stuffed french toast, ambiance, or specialty lunch selections. not their burger. (though Im Always grateful when there are options at all for my picky one) The outdoor porch is quite pleasant if you dont mind occasional leaves falling on you for the full experience of fall outdoor dining, curious bees minding their own business, or October sun rays hitting your face for that boost of Vit D you know you need. (I hear the indoor option is cozy as well) We came by Northborough for no other reason than to find a family farm that still allows apple picking in the middle of October. (thanks Tougas Farm!) Con: Google website does not explain that while downstairs coffee bar opens at 8 am the upstairs dining remains closed an added 30 min until 8:30 am. My coffee was deliciously warm at 8 am but disappointingly cool by 8:45 and a half cup warm up is not an option unless you purchase a second full cup. Overall nice experience and could easily become extraordinary with minor improvements. Discussed my coffee concern with owner who was not in agreement and may have been slightly overwhelmed at the time! AMAZING!!! from the moment we walked in, our party of 6 was most welcomed. sat us upstairs in a beautiful room surrounded by windows. we were immediately waited upon by Paige our waitress and Millie the owner. both very friendly and welcoming. Now to the good part, the food was wonderful as we ordered specialty coffees, OJ and other tasty beverages. we then followed with a few breakfast appetizers for the table. We were never rushed, but Paige was always attentive and ready to answer questions and take our order. The meals were very tasty and delicious as we all passed around samples to each other. we had a great time on a relaxing Sunday afternoon. We were traveling with our (90 pound) dog, searched in Yelp for dog friendly brunch, and ta da - we went to C'est La Vie Bistro. Not a long wait on a Sat morning, maybe 10 mins. (We chose to sit outside, though our dog was welcome inside.) The service was fantastic. Couldn't have been better / nicer. When they brought water for the table, they brought a dish for our pup. (Much appreciated!) Our party had eggs Benedict. The eggs were cooked perfectly! (Though it seemed to me that the cooking water must have had a lot of vinegar.) The rest of the meal was so so. The bacon was soggy/undercooked. In fact everything seemed soggy - the English muffin. The potatoes. The potatoes had a strong green pepper taste. Not my fav, but if you like green peppers you will love it! The iced decaf Americano coffee was good. The homemade lemonade was sweet and tart - I added a little water to it and it was perfect. The portions were large. Go hungry! They have a garden outside that looks like the chef makes good use of. I would def go back again - would order differently and I bet it would be fabulous!
