They don't serve black people. We were the only black people in the restaurant and everyone around us who arrived after us got their food before us. The excuse they gave was that they were backed up. Okay I'm a fan. I've been wanting to check this place out or over a year. The radio advertisements are certainly enticing. I had high expectations. We sat at the bar and the bartender was really friendly. I think her name is Kayla? I like the ambiance of the original space. They've renovated and now have a larger dining room. I'm still not sure where to park though. We parked over my Jerry's. To drink, I ordered the Rose (what's up with the Rose craze right now?) followed by a mojito. Their mojito is probably the best I've ever had. Not sweet, not sour, but fresh. Couldn't taste the rum at all but I know it was there... I watched her make a bloody mary and it looked great. House made mix, which includes my fav ingredient, Worcestershire. I'll try that next time. I ordered the ceviche flight as my lunch entree. Quite expensive as a lunch entree @ $24 but most people get it as an appetizer. It was very good. Almost as good as the ceviche I ordered in Belize. Almost. True ceviche, as in "cooked" in citrus. The lobster ceviche was served in coconut milk. The sea bass ceviche was probably my fav. Lite and fresh. The shrimp ceviche was good too, served with chunks of mango. And, the squid and scallop ceviche was nice, a little spicy. The sampler was served with chips and a few fried plantains which was a nice touch. My husband ordered the cubano. Oh. My. It was really good. I don't know the bread type but I think some kind of focaccia. The pork was chunky, not lame slices like some restaurants. EVERYTHING here is DELISH! I just moved to Wilmington 2 months ago and I've already been to this restaurant 5 times! I know, that's a little much, but I seriously can't get enough of it. Whenever someone comes to visit, this is where I want to take them. The food is so fresh, and I've never had anything bad here. The seafood is amazing, all the cocktails are well crafted, and the people who work here are very nice. Also, it doesn't break the bank! The plantains with some of the dishes add some sweetness, and my personal favorite thing here is the lobster ceviche. YUM! Honestly, order anything, because it's all fantastic. read more

Very tasty! I'm not quite as in love with it as lots of folks around here seem to be, but it's definitely very good food, and I appreciate that they exist. The first time I went might not have been the best time to judge them on, as I wasn't feeling terribly hungry and just had the sancocho and snacked a bit on my wife's plate. The sancocho was okay, but somewhat unremarkable. Next time, we were properly hungry, and splashed out on empanadas and ropa vieja. The empanadas were particularly good, and honestly could've been a whole meal by themselves. The ropa vieja was very tasty, but could've been a bit more tender (at least for my taste). I can't recall what cocktail my wife had, but we liked it enough that she ordered a second so that I could have more. Service was a little slow, but it could've just been a busy night! read more

The taste and the potion sizes for many dishes we ordered were lacking. I gave it two stars: 1 for the staff who were very nice and helpful, and 1 for the Guacamole with goat cheese. We started out with Ceviche Quatro and the Guacamole with goat cheese. The latter was very good, and that was pretty much the only thing that we liked. The former dish was comprised of four tiny half size glass shots - with mainly vegetables and some slithers of fish or seafood; very little for a hefty $24 price tag. Even the picture on Yelp of the Ceviche Quatro shows a much larger portion size than what was served to us. It's a shame that restaurants have to reduce their portion sizes, and give slithers of the main fish ordered, but keep the prices high for their own profit, despite what seems to be a booming business!! Then came the entrees, I ordered the Ropa Vieja, which was edible, but definitely nothing I would go back for, and definitely not worth $20 price. My husband ordered the Corvina A La Plancha, the corvina was a small piece of what tasted like frozen fish sticks, it definitely wasn't fresh! What a shame, we left disappointed! People must have been lost in the ambiance to give such high ratings on Yelp! read more

We have eaten here many times and have always enjoyed everything - the service, the food, and the drinks! On this occasion we decided to bring an out-of-town guest here for dinner to "show off" this amazing restaurant in our town. Our guest and myself ordered the poke bowl and I couldn't have been more disappointed. It was terrible - so salty our guest could not eat his and I was only able to eat a small amount of mine. On the other hand my husband ordered the special and it was amazing! In hindsight, i wish we had sent it back and ordered something else. We did say something to our server and the manager came over and apologized. The two items were removed from our bill - exactly what a high quality restaurant should do. Ceviche's is a staple here in Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach. We come here year after year and my parents come here weekly because they are locals. Everything, top to bottom, drinks to desserts, is perfection. The cook on all the different fish is exceptional. The bar tender, Will, is the best we've ever had. He is so attentive and creative with his drinks. He's friendly and hilarious! He even made me a custom drink that I have to say is the best drink I've ever had. He made it with fresh watermelon juice, cucumbers and a white spirit. Be sure to ask for Will if you want to be taken care of properly! On to the food: The ceviche is a given, all perfect and unique. The tortilla chips are thick and to die for. The empanadas are a easy light meal or great shareable appetizer, they are big! EVERY. SINGLE. ENTREE. WAS. AMAZING. After we all tried our dinners, we couldn't decide which was best! We had the sea bass, the shrimp skewers and the pork with scallops. I wish I had found this gem sooner! Tucked away along the road, Ceviche's offers incredible ambiance inside and out. The decor was welcoming and fun which made me excited to look at the menu and that did not disappoint! The vibrant ingredients found in each dish popped with color on the plate. The flavors are bold and blend beautifully. I had the special, which included scallops, shrimp, broccolini, and mashed potatoes. I wish I could eat it everyday! Wow! From the outstanding mixed drinks to the meals, everything is fantastic at Ceviche's. The Panamanian Pain Killer and Mojitos are wonderful mixed and very different. We then had some chips with homemade salsa and guacamole. Yum! For dinner, I had the Ropa vieja and my wife had the Arroz con pollo. Well deserving of 5 stars. Every time we have inquire about going this place they have a waiting list. We decided to stop in on our way to the second hotel and boy that was a treat. First noticed all of the chefs and servers had masks and gloves on which was great to see. A quick visit to the bathroom which was extremely immaculate. Our ceviche and special guacamole arrived first and that was amazing. The ceviche combination El Quatro reminded me of Baja California and the time that I experience real ceviche in Mexico. Hats off to the chef they nailed this to the tea tasted exactly how it should taste. Good ceviche will have a clean taste not fishy not smelly but very clean and see that satisfying which this ceviche did. I had order the empanadas the chicken in the grill beef which were both fantastic my wife ordered the my my blackened fish taco and shrimp tacos. Both of her tacos were well presented and full of flavor as I had to steal a bite from hers. The ambience was very casual laid-back and comforting definitely a place to try if in the area they are a true winner in our book and anxious to return soon. Love Ceviche's, and have since they opened. Fantastic food and service - our go-to for date night. Unfortunately, when we arrived for dinner this evening the parking lot was full so we parked across the street in front of a closed business (we have parked here for years when the normal lots are full). Following a delicious dinner, my wife and I found that our car had been towed. Apparently, Brent from Brent's Bistro (will never try this restaurant and will do my best to discourage others) has asked a local towing company to stake out and punish Ceviche customers who cannot find parking. When confronted, the towing company employees noted they were watching as folks parked just to tow them minutes later. After the fact while we were waiting on an Uber, it seemed that Ceviche's employees knew this was an issue but we were not notified beforehand. Rough ending to a great dining experience. read more

I've spent my high school years in Panama and always seek out restaurants that offer Panamanian-inspired food. Ate here 2 1/2 years ago when the restaurant was very small and enjoyed the ambiance, the walk down taste-bud memory lane and the very delicious margaritas. Every time we visited Wilmington, I insisted on one meal at Ceviche's and every dish I have eaten has been fantastic. We have since moved to Wilmington and so happy to be walking distance to Ceviche's (one has nothing to do with the other, I swear)! The food continues to be adventurous, fresh, and delightful. The restarutant has expanded to the shop next door as well as a huge outdoor patio. I would recommend first timers to start with the El Quatro- a sampling of 4 ceviches guaranteed to make you a believer. If you need to pick one, the corvina ceviche is authentic to the one my mom made in Panama but my personal favorite is the langostino with coconut milk. Ceviche is served with tortillas (but I wish they would serve it with saltines). Empanadas are always good to share for the table and we usually split an order or 2 depending on our appetites. My most favorite are the carne empanadas. Smoky ground beef baked in a pastry (think hot pocket but wayyyyyy better) and topped with guacamole and salsa fresca. Yummy! If you love fish, there is usually a special offered. I have enjoyed the Ropa Vieja - with braised flank steak served over coconut rice and Arroz con Pollo- Chicken over Spanish rice, green olives and peas- both classic Panamanian dishes that bring me back to great memories in Panama. All are also served with fried plantains- similar to bananas. Here's another tip- Save room for dessert!!! The churro holes are round fried donuts topped with cinnamon sugar and served with whipped cream. The Banana Chocolate Swirl Cake is amazing- if you have no room in the belly, take a slice to go! We knew this place was delicious before Guy Fieri came to town- but I'm thrilled that other people are getting a chance to know Ceviche's, Panamanian cuisine and enjoying great food and service here in Wilmington. Last tip- be sure to make reservations. It is always busy at Ceviches. read more

What a wonderful meal! The 3 variety guacamole appetizer was fantastic. We especially liked the one blended with goat cheese. Can I give this place 10 stars!!! This is a "must go to" place. Parking lot was a little confusing I think we parked in the back and walked through the bar area. No biggie because when we sat down, we entered another world. Truly a great experience all around. We had the trio dip with the best guacamole and salsa. The plantain chips with the pineapple salsa was like an appetizer treat (dessert before the dessert). Then we tried the chicken empanadas, that's when the deal was sealed. Food was like a dream come true. It was perfectly crunchy but chicken stuffed and well seasoned. The steak dish I had with peppers and coconut rice was mouth watering. The food was good, but too much paella with very little shell fish for the price. The fish tasted very good. The other food had quite a bit of oil in it. They don't give enough chips for the ceviche appetizer, but the ceviche was good. The fried brussel sprouts were awesome but not enough dipping sause for them. The noice level was too much for me as I could barely hear those I was with and couldn't be heard unless I shouted. To be fair the place was packed so if you want a quieter meal than don't go at dinner. Ha ha. It was over priced for what you're getting. I'd probably go back but not get an entre. For three entres, two appetizers and no alcohol, just one coke and an iced tea, the bill was about 135. plus tip. I didn't realize it until I got home but I added a 20 percent tip to a bill that seemingly already had the tip added. A very expensive night. Be sure to carefully check your receipt.
