The Buoy Basket of cornmeal breaded shrimp with fries, slaw, buttermilk ranch, and cocktail sauce
    Ashley S.

This is a small dive bar with a surf shack theme. The food is delicious. We both had the shrimp basket. Service was fast and friendly in spite of it being very busy. It was pretty loud because it's a small space. If we come back to CB in the summer, we would definitely return and sit outside to avoid the noise level. But I am sensitive to volume levels, so it may not bother the average person at all even when it's packed. The slaw is great - I could have eaten several of those! The drinks looked great but I rarely drink. My husband had a blood orange hard cider from their decently sizable list of options.

Don't let the understated appearance of this restaurant fool you. Do yourselves a favor and try the amazing food here! The meals my husband and I had from The Sandspur stood out as the best cuisine we had during our trip to Carolina Beach. The food was cooked to perfection, beautifully arranged, and incredibly flavorful. It's easy to tell that their talented chef takes pride in each dish. We can't wait to go back on our next trip to the area!

Fish tacos and shrimp basket were delicious. Good tuna on the nachos. Outdoor bar had fast service with lots of first come picnic tables. Live music as well. Small inside restaurant.

This place is small so get here early or make a reservation. The food is good. I had the tacos. Seemed a little pricey for just a couple tacos but oh well.

Really enjoyed my visit to The Sandspur! We had family in town staying in CB and found this place on Yelp. Loved the vintage interior design - it really felt like you stepped back in time. The food was all great, but we especially loved the goat cheese queso. Service was great as well. We'll be back!

    Buoy basket, $18.00

We ate at the Sandspur on 4/26/26 for the first time ever. It was after 8pm when we entered, so not very crowded. Service was quick, and our water was refilled before it was empty. We ordered two of their Buoy Baskets which were $18.00 each. Their fried shrimp is battered with corn meal, and the batter is pretty thick. It's sort of like shrimp stuffed hush puppies. The red slaw is excellent, but it comes in a souffle cup the same size as the ketchup. I would have given up a few fries to have twice as much slaw. The tiny serving size just makes them look cheap. The fries tasted good. Total cost for 2 Buoy Baskets was $36, plus 2.52 tax, plus 7.20 tip = 45.72. They did not add a 3% charge for using a credit card, or I would deduct a star. I do not know if the Sandspur has a lunch menu with prices less than their dinner menu. The ambiance was fine for a seafood place.

Delicious food & good portion sizes. Tofu tacos were excellent, my husband and son loved their sandwiches and the French fries were so good.

It lent to a cozy vibe, and our terrorizer kids even chilled out a little. Highly recommend the flight of mimosa bombs (they were delightfully strong and equal to about 1 drink in volume!), and the all-you can eat brunch--but only if you want Diane to give you a magical experience with deliciousness coming out your ears. Bacon is crisp, FRIED CHICKEN PUTS CHICK FIL-A to damn shame, eggs were made with lots of yummy butter, the grill lends a nice char and toast to the sourdoughs and avocado toasts, the fruit in the parfaits were very freshly cut and prepared--the entire experience was handmade as we ordered, and any wait was WELL worth it once we got to chowing down! Diane was welcoming, extremely adaptable to our situation, and frankly cared about our experience. She might be a little overworked but; The rest of the town is full of the rudest service crews... Diane made me feel special. Love that woman!!!! Protect her at all costs! Lmaoooo

The space between the bar and the rail is maybe 2 bodies deep so we didn't get to walk around and really enjoy the view. The drinks were good, and the place was hopping. I would definitely pop by for 1 drink again, but I wouldn't make this my destination bar for an evening.

We arrived around 4:30 and beat the dinner rush, which gave us a beautiful evening outside. From the moment we sat down, it felt less like going to a restaurant and more like coming home after a long day at the beach. Our servers, Abigail and Allie, were both wonderful--friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Service like that is getting harder to find these days, and they deserve a lot of credit. We started with the fried okra, and there were barely any left by the time I thought to take a picture. Crisp, hot, and some of the best we've had. The Black and Red wings were excellent too--full of flavor with just the right amount of kick. The fries were seasoned and cooked just right. The outside seating has a great atmosphere, and even the little details stood out. The place was clean, including the restroom, and seeing their 97.5 sanitation score posted proudly gave us even more confidence. They even had a Venus flytrap outside--only in Carolina Beach can a restaurant have its own bug patrol on duty. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. We'll definitely be back.

Everything was either high fat, meat heavy or deep fried. Just a side salad would have been great. They were short staffed so I will not comment on the service other than it's customary to ask if there will be separate checks with a large table. The server dropped one check off and it took another 30 minutes to get separate checks. I had the cheesesteak sandwich. I like mine with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise in addition to the traditional toppings. I was happy to see they make them the way that I prefer. When I got my sandwich however, there was very little meat and toppings and it was mostly bread. Everything is à la carte, so my onion rings were an additional 5 dollars and some change on top of the 14.50 sandwich and 3.50 drink. 45 dollars for an ok sandwich meal and a kids meal. It's cheaper to get appetizers for some things than the "baskets." There's also 4 different prices for the same item which is very confusing. I like to support local businesses but they didn't have anything I'd be back for. Vegetables on the menu would be amazing. Closest thing they had to a vegetable were sandwich toppings and "fried corn" which is actually a starch. And deep fried?
