Chace's is nothing to write home about so it's hardly worth writing a review on Yelp. The old trope applies: if you looking for the definition of average food there's a picture of Chace's in the dictionary. The vibe is your grandparents living room. OK, maybe some peoples great grandparents. But think I might have identified new mid-century modern design idea "luxury vinyl wall paneling." So its very authentic. And the shower curtain separating the restroom door from the adjacent booth nails the theme - mid (last) century diner. The coffee- I don't like to drink coffee that's tasteless. I was worried there would be diner coffee and Chace's didn't disappoint. Or disappointed. Im a visitor so here in Seattle surprising to be served watery coffee. I guess its worked tor 70 years and no one has complained? The sourdough pancakes were good. They had a nice tang. The price under $9 was reasonable. And that's it. No Instagram awesomeness here. Just pancakes. And they were lonely on the plate. They would have been better with some eggs or bacon. All in all an interesting experience. But you could order pancakes most anywhere else and do just as fine. Service friendly and kind. Points for preserving history. But lacks anything special on the food. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. While it's close to my home, somehow, I didn't even know that it was there. But eventually, I learned about it through a close friend. So I saved it on my map to make sure that one day I took some time to stop in and have breakfast. Today was that day. Me and my wife got up nice and early and paid Chace's a visit. I have to admit that maybe I had too high of expectations based on the conversation I had with a friend and the reviews I read on Google (at the time, I did not think to cross reference those reviews on yelp where it seems Chace's Pancake Corral gets a lot more negative scrutiny). - Parking: for a place the size the parking is adequate. There are about 30 spots, but most of those spots are located on a lot that is separate from the lot where the business is located. There's also no markings for the parking so of course it gets a little bit tight as vehicles attempt to squeeze in. I opted to take my chances rolling out of the big lot and into the small lot where I actually didn't see any spots available, but got lucky enough to, find one of the four spots in the back of the building available. - Wait Time: I was told that on a bad day the wait time could be over an hour. My wife and I went around 9 AM and was told there was a wait time of about 20 minutes. Which I will admit was accurate. When we went inside to sit down, the place was definitely full with the exception of two open tables for two people each. - Seating: they walked us to a table in the corner. That was actually a high chair table, instead of a sit down table. I believe that the table has some significance to it as there was a small plaque, and some pictures mentioning someone's marriage at that spot. But the seating was quite uncomfortable and I would've rather they give us the option of that table or the other on occupied table for two. - Service: the young lady who serviced us, whose name, I cannot, remember, was very nice and checked up on us often. I noticed a few waitresses walking around serving the tables. It was good to see that amount of service in such a small place. Even big franchise restaurants did not have that amount of waiters per table. They definitely invested in this part of the business. - Food: my wife got the eggs Benedict and the potato pancakes. The potato pancakes seemed quite interesting so I decided to give them a try myself. They were definitely quite tasty, and she seem to love them as well. On the other hand, the eggs Benedict not so much. First it is important to understand what an eggs Benedict is. And eggs Benedict does not mean in the over easy egg with meat and hollandaise sauce on top of bread. But that's what we were given. Any business that is going to make an eggs Benedict needs to make sure that they poach eggs. Otherwise, it is not an eggs Benedict. As for myself, I got two eggs scrambled with turkey sausage and French toast. I read a few comments about the French toast being bland, but I was really in the mood and figured if anything I can always drown it out with maple syrup. All those assessments were actually correct. The French toast was bland. You actually couldn't see a spec of spice on them. To add to that, as I stood at the front to pay - where the grill is - I noticed that the French toast was actually premade sitting in the grease catch. Based on that, I'm assuming they premade some and warm them when needed. I sure hope that isn't the case but that what I gather from it. Coffee was good. All in all, nothing special here that says "I have to come back here." - Cleanliness: I can't emphasize this enough (and I hope the business reads this). Please do some spring cleaning. Nothing worse then seeing spider webs everywhere on the lamp one foot from my food, dirt buildup on air vents etc. This ultimately made me think "if this is how clean they keep the eating area, how clean do they keep the kitchen?" read more

Really awesome food here with a really homey ambience when you walk in which is really nice to see in Bellevue. Service was what you would expect from a locally owned mom and Pop shop so nothing over the top and nothing special but all of our needs were taken care of. I got the pumpkin pancakes and they were absolutely amazing! I will be back frequently to continue to enjoy this breakfast spot. read more

I like oldies cafe or restaurant. Exactly Couzin's Cafe was. It's a very hidden area and can see only OPEN sign from Bellevue way. And I think open 6-2pm only. First time I came in with friend and I felt some comfy zone. Service lady was nice and warm feeling. Menus are easy. Prices are reasonable. I ordered potato pancakes with sausage and traditional breakfast (2 eggs, corn beef, breads). 2 coffees. Foods are okay. I wish potato pancakes are little sweet and not salty bcz Sausage also salty. Hidden gem in Bellevue. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I was not disappointed! I order bacon and eggs with hash browns and toast. My fiancé and I also shared banana pancakes. Loved how we were able to try both coconut and maple syrup. This place gets really busy and there's not much parking. We went there around 9 am on a Saturday. We got the standard buttermilk pancakes, and I ordered the potato pancakes that everyone seemed to be a fan of. Buttermilk pancakes * Very standard. * Whipped cream was in a depressingly small container and runny/split. Potato pancakes * Rather bland and plain. * Side sauces were also so little. One honestly just tasted like apple sauce and the other like sour cream. Sides * Eggs were also surprisingly small. * I only received one sausage link when I was under the impression each serving came with 3. Service * No utensils or even napkins provided, so we were in a bit of a pickle when we parked elsewhere and tried to eat. I guess when we called we didn't specify, but isn't it standard practice to include them unless told otherwise? Price * This place is not cheap. The total came out to over $30, when it was really just some pancakes, eggs, and one sausage link plus a coffee. The options do not have much variety unless you add on sides, and at that point you're really overpaying. Overall, I can understand the small diner charm and supporting local businesses, which is why this experience was so disappointing. Did we order the wrong things? Was this just an off day? Meh. My husband and I have been here several times and it's always been basic, but now it's taken basic to a new level. It does have "pancake" in it's name and I'm not a pancake eater, so maybe I should reset my expectations... It is a breakfast place though, that does serve eggs, bacon, biscuits etc and there has to be some level of skill shown. There is no build-your-own scramble or omelette and vegetables are near absent. The side of scrambled eggs I ordered weren't scrambled. They were a rolled up flat egg pancake. Bellevue doesn't have many good breakfast restaurants, so I find myself here when I'm craving some classic American breakfast food. The wait here is often pretty long on weekends (~40 minutes), and honestly the food isn't that good to justify the wait. The food is fine but nothing amazing. Before the pandemic hit we went here a couple times, the food was overpriced diner food in small portions, but always crowded because it was old, location was good and had "cultural history" in the area. We stopped going the time we saw a local politician who was friends with the waitstaff get seated ahead of literally 30+ other people who were waiting inside and outside. We tried it again recently after the pandemic hit with takeout. They got the order wrong and again, the portions were small considering the high price. We happened upon Chace's one lazy Saturday morning around 1pm and easily found parking and a table for two. The interior is traditional American but very cozy and inviting. For entrees, we ordered the blueberry pancakes ($7.95) and a cheeseburger ($9.95). For drinks, we both got coffees ($3 each but it came with refills). The pancakes were the highlight; fluffy with fresh tasting blueberry toppings. We were hungry so the cheeseburger tasted good but it's not something we would go out of our way for. I like the vibe of this place, its a nice, local classic. I was happy to find out that they could make pretty much anything on their menu gluten free (which is amazing). Compared to some places nearby, I thought the french toast was just alright. Everything is priced pretty reasonably and our service was good. I think my food could have been better. The tiny breakfast non bistro serves up the very basic of grinds , hot coffee & OJ. I kinda was expecting more than I got but the power of fooling yourself is great until reality sets in. So for $13 I got a piece of ham, toast & OJ.. Now come on really that's a tad expensive unless your at The Four Seasons. It wasn't real top quality ham or thick. Bottom line up-front: bad customer service, won't come back First and only time here. We were seated by Ada and, on the wall at our table is a sign which reads, "Temporarily we are unable to pour water by the glass. Bottled water is available for .50c for everyone's safety." Curious about the rationale behind this, I asked. Coffee is served in cups. I see orange juice served in glasses (probably the same water glasses). Ada told me it's the owner's policy and she didn't know anything about the policy except that she has to enforce it, that it has to do with "handling" the glasses. Ada then offered coffee. I pointedly indicated that the food looks to be served on plates that are handled, and we were just offered coffee (served in a cup that presumably is a safety concern) and I cast my opinion about how stupid this "glass of water" policy is. Ada attempted to reprimand me because, according to her, the owner is her sister. I'm pretty sure I was ignored by her for the remainder of our stay. Had it been up to me we would have immediately left this place, but we stayed. My hash browns did not arrive brown, undercooked. I sent them back. The pancake on the bottom was, well, unsatisfactory. Something was weird with it. I sent those back too. We wound up taking her food to go, and I ate lunch at home. I should have thought to take photos of the food to post here. I generally value customer service more than the product itself. If you do too, don't bother coming here. read more

I got the Swedish pancakes and thought it was tasty. I wish they added slightly more powdered sugar but that's ok. The lingonberry sauce wasn't super sweet. I didn't need any extra syrup for it. Our coffee mug was never be empty as they checked back often to make sure of that! I was surprised with the way they cooked the corned beef as a patty; pretty good I must say. Nothing to complain about, the food was prepared the old fashioned way with no gimmicks. All in all, they stick to the fundamentals - quick service, tasty food and fair prices! I've been coming to Chace's since I was a kid and literally nothing has changed in the last 25 years. I have fond memories of breakfast with my family here and almost weekly visits with friends during my high school years. Chace's is like eating breakfast at your grandma's house, if your grandma ran a diner. It's warm, cozy, the coffee is always hot, and the food is prepared to order. Hidden around a bend on Bellevue way, Chace's can be easy to miss. It is probably worth checking out for a decent diner-type brunch but it isn't anything spectacular. I put my name down and we waited for about 30 mins for a table, which isn't awful. And because the place is small, the line is almost expected anyway. There's usually a crowd of people milling about outside in the parking lot, but it's worth going in to check how far down the list you are, since they don't always call outside when your table is ready. The menu was more extensive than I expected, but with some really weird items. There is a kids menu, but also a "child's plate" on the regular menu. There is also the weirdly gender-specific "ladies plate" with less bacon and half the hash browns of a regular plate. Now, really: what kind of lady wants less bacon and hash browns? The range of pancakes is decent, and in addition to the menu there is a specials board out front with other items on it. I had the potato pancakes with sausage links. The sausages weren't notable at all; they just seemed like the links you get in the store. The potato pancakes were pretty good and came with sour cream and a confusing tub of applesauce (what do you put that on?). He had the pumpkin pancakes and they came with a piece of candy corn on them, cute. Overall our meals were decent sized without being gross amounts of food, and it was reasonably tasty. Service was pretty good as well despite the place being full; our coffees and waters were refilled regularly and our order was taken promptly. There was a considerable wait for the food though. Meals for two people cost about $20 before tax and tip. I admit that I was a bit apprehensive given that other Yelpers had made claims about racism at this place. However, nothing untoward happened, except my meal came out last (we were in a party of 6), and even then I didn't feel like there was anything insidious about that. The parking lot is small and usually packed around brunchtime. There is a gravel lot next door you can also use. Although the food was decent, I don't think it was good enough to warrant the wait. If we are in the area we might check it out again. Otherwise, I don't think we will go out of our way to come back. read more

By the appearance and location of the Corral, you might assume that most people would just pass it by. It's located on the side of a road next to just a laundromat and reminds me of a log cabin. However, I arrived for breakfast around 7:45 on a Saturday and the restaurant was already almost full. By the time we left, there was even a wait. Overall, I had a good experience with both the food and service. Our waitress was very personable, hardworking and attentive by making sure we had everything we needed. We also received our order pretty quickly, no longer than 10 minutes. There are about a dozen types of pancakes to choose from in addition to a variety of other traditional breakfast foods. I decided to try the **Swedish Pancakes w/ Lingonberries for something different and I really enjoyed it! The pancakes are thin and folded with the berries in the middle, similar to a crepe. They were light and fluffy, while the berry filling was perfectly tart. I'm a light eater when it comes to breakfast, so the serving of three pancakes was an ideal amount. I'd recommend! Although the Corral's exterior might not look too appealing, you'll be pleasantly surprised once you give it a try. read more

Chace's is a little outside of the downtown core but it's a good choice when you are craving some good old fashioned pancakes without too much fuss. Lots of selections of speciality pancakes. I opted for the Blueberry ones. They really are light and fluffy! That said...a little lacking in blueberries in the pancake (though there is fhevjsually compote). You can have them on their own or served with the usual breakfast offerings. Prices are reasonable, and table service was friendly.
