I've only been here once and it was a disappointment. Made an online reservation they apparently did not see so they were unprepared for my group when we arrived. Thankfully very few people were there and they sat us. The food is very mediocre. All the sandwiches are toasted. I've never had that at a tea before. Even the cookies at the end are mediocre. The side salad was sooo tasteless and serviced with dry toast! Literally nothing on the toast, I had to ask for butter. Had a lovely afternoon tea here today. Was able to make a reservation beforehand with no issues. Parking can be a bit tough as it's all metered or lot parking and there are some closed off street due to construction. Our server Sam was very attentive and provided extra care when finding out we were celebrating a very belated birthday. We got the traditional tea which was plenty! Lovely first experience! Celebration Afternoon Tea This was the pricier option available out of the two tea service choices. The main difference is that it comes with wine inspired ice tea, tea infused chocolates, and soup or salad. The iced tea was just ok, nothing too special in my opinion. The chocolates were good, but not sure I was able to taste the tea. The tomato soup was my favorite!! It was so creamy and flavorful, not too salty, and it comes with bread. If I were to go again, I would just choose the Chado Afternoon Tea Service and add the soup. The sandwiches were really good! I loved three out of the four different types. The souchong chicken sandwich was my least favorite because it was a little dry. The macaroon and scone were good. The scone is super big and kind of hard to finish lol. The cream and jam were both yummy with the scone. Each person that gets the tea service at your table can choose their own pot of hot tea. I got the milky oolong which was so good! Love the tea flavor. It wasn't too strong, not bitter. Very smooth. The staff came to check on us a lot, maybe a bit too frequently. The space was quite cramped, but I enjoyed the aesthetic. I chose Chado Tea Room Pasadena to have my baby shower this past weekend and everything went perfect! We reserved the entire indoor portion of the restaurant for 3 hours with a full course of the "Celebration Afternoon Tea Service" for each guest. We had about 50 guests total but paid ahead for 75 guests plus tip to reserve the place to ourselves. I was in communication with Samuel for weeks ahead of the event with questions from my hosts about table organization, access to set up and decorate, set up for our musicians etc. He was easy to reach every time and extremely accommodating. On the day of we had full access to all the staff and every one of them was extremely attentive. When we arrived the tables were ready to go and the servers were waiting for our guests to arrive and for me to give the queue to begin appetizers. The food was beautifully set up and the teas I chose were hits! The egg salad sandwich and the scones were guests favorites. The only thing I wish would have been done more consistently throughout the tables was for the servers to assist with pouring the teas. For some of the guests it was their first time at a tea room so some additional info on the teas and modeling on the proper way to serve would have been nice, but it was just a small thing. The overall consensus was how great the event was and how happy everyone was with the food and service. The space was big enough for our guests to comfortably participate in a couple games and converse with one another even with live music. We had the restaurant from 3pm until closing at 6pm so we felt no rush by anyone to leave or pack up immediately. We were allowed the space and time to organize ourselves and pack up the gifts, decorations, and leftovers. We were conveniently able to access the back to load up our cars and everyone left happy and full. It was a truly perfect day. read more

The good: I got the birthday celebration tea along with the birthday celebration menu. It costs more but includes 3 chocolates, 1 more sandwich (I think?), and a "surprise gift" at the end (it was a nice box with a saucer and teacup). I enjoyed being able to sit in their outdoor dining area (it is a shaded parklet). I liked that they didn't rush us through the dining process and there wasn't any hard cutoff times that we had to complete our meal. I was there from 11 until 2. They also allowed me to be seated before 11am (when they open). The salad dressing was nice and I liked the nuts on my salad. They take reservations. The bad: It was cold in the indoor dining space. Outdoor dining is a parklet so you'll be hearing and seeing cars drive by but it was still nice to get fresh air and some sun. The server forgot to bring my surprise gift at the end. They squirt the chocolate and raspberry puree onto the plate as a design in advance so it dries and is stuck to the plate. I think it would be nicer if they did it fresh so you could actually eat it. The lemon slice on the salmon sandwich was too thick. I think a thinner slice would be easier to eat. They gave a 4th of July macaron that looks identical to the one from Costco. They have packets of sugar (like at Denny's) rather than sugar cubes. They forgot to bring my friend's alternative milk option. My other friend didn't get any milk/cream at all. They cleaned up my friend's tea and teapot too early. Street parking is only 2 hours at a time so I had to go back and add time to my car. The interesting: They recommend eating the scone first but it's super filling and huge so perhaps try that after. read more

Luckily i called in & they were able to help me change my party size with ease. Fyi, when the party is over 6, they do require a $100 no refundable deposit that goes into your meal total. they helped me process my card via phone & I was set. (3/5) I really enjoyed the tea selection & quality of them! I ordered the birthday tea & was much to my liking! I havent had a fruity yet floral tea before, but it wasnt at all artificial-tasting. We celebrated my mom's birthday here and it was more than we could ever ask for! She loves Bridgerton and they had a themed tea menu for the show. We enjoyed wonderful tea and delicious food! Each person received their own stack of sandwiches, fruit, and pastries along with their own pot of tea that was themed to characters in the show. First time patron of Chado Tea Room to celebrate a bride-to-be! We all got the Chado Afternoon Tea Service ($34.95/person) plus soup/salad (additional $5.95). The food was as expected - we were all pleased with what we received. The set comes with plenty of food (scone, four 1/2 sandwiches, and a cookie; pot of tea). The average person is sure to leave feeling full! It should be noted that Sam, our server, made our experience as lovely as it was! Knowing that we were celebrating a bride-to-be, Sam coordinated two surprises for us! Champagne flutes of iced tea at the end of our meal as well as a scoop of ice cream with a congratulatory message for the bride. From the outside, this cute little place has nice curb appeal. The outside dining area with its minimal decorations of pink curtains, faux green bushes caught my attention and drew my brother and I and my little doggies over. It was a cloudy and cold day when we went so I think it would help if they had some heaters outside. There is another tea room across the street without outdoor dining that was equally busy, but Chado felt a little more contemporary. Service overall was pretty good and the food and drinks were brought to our table fairly promptly. Towards the end of our meal though it did take a while for the server to bring the check only after we went inside to request it. My brother and I got the 'celebration afternoon tea service' on the menu for two. The tomato soup was hot and delicious; perfectly seasoned. The three tiered rack came with four different sandwiches-- one cucumber/herb, one egg sandwich, one chicken with cranberry, and a smoked salmon -- with increasing deliciousness as listed in that order. However, I have had better flavored sandwiches at different tea room places in the past, so this one's sandwiches were relatively mid. For the price, though, not bad. I would say Chado is good overall for the ambience and overall "afternoon elegant tea" experience and is reasonably priced. People of course dress up for this occasion. But if you want a different level of quality of tea room food and tea, you may have to go somewhere else. read more

Booked a reservation two days beforehand and my party of 3 was promptly attended to once we arrived. Our server was Sam and he checked on us frequently. We received great service. We ordered the Birthday, Celebratory, and Chado afternoon tea services. Birthday came with a surprise gift which was much appreciated! They also brought out ice cream and a birthday candle! For our teas, we ordered Passion fruit oolong, Rajini, and the lychee display tea. The lychee display tea was the most bland, and it is basically what it says, nice to have displayed because of the flower in the clear pot, but flavor wise unremarkable. My party preferred the Rajini tea with French lavender and rose petals infused. Food wise, I really liked the warm scones with fresh cream and strawberries. Would've liked them to include more fruits on the platter like other tea places. For the sandwiches, the bread was soft and not dry, but I would say the Souchong chicken was my least favorite... it tasted like a canned tuna sandwich. Wish there was more cranberry in there. The tomato soup was alright, and went well with the croutons but flavor wise, it seemed like it came from a can... not very unique. Macaroons were small but soft. Their wine inspired iced tea in glass flutes were good. Ambiance was nice and we got lots of natural light where we were seated near the window. I really liked all the different tea cannisters displayed on the side of the wall. FYI, they share bathrooms with the next door sushi restaurant so it's easy to walk the wrong hallway and end up at the other restaurant like it happened to a member of my party as well as myself. They use to have more plants inside and just a different cozier feel. I'd suggest bringing some of that back. I feel it's lost its personality. I like the grandma kitschyness from a year ago. I found this cute tea room with a friend after browsing online. Our waiter, Sam, was the nicest and sweetest man ever! We ordered 2 of the Chado afternoon tea services and I thought the prices were really reasonable. The sandwiches were my favorite and the cream that came with the scone was really delicious. They have a wide variety of teas, each with a cute little description. Chado Tea Room is also located a couple steps from the new Miopane bakery, which is really convenient if you're considering trying it out. We always have a great experience at Chado. We try to go at least once a year and make the trip all the way from the Valley to the Pasadena location because it's our favorite. This review is for the Mother's Day afternoon tea. We made a reservation a month ahead but I think you would be okay to make one two weeks ahead of time as it was not packed at all. They were however acting like they were really busy. My first complaint is that for the price I expect better - $330 for 4 people. It was very underwhelming. Being a tea place I had hope for more whimsy and hospitality but I am giving it two stars for the gift which was a really cute teacup (although we only got two wth) and the hot tea was delicious. We were seated right away and the lady was very nice. We were served immediately indicating they had made everything the day before. Nothing was fresh. Including our server. Very nice person and looked like a hard worker but reeked of cigarettes. Tip if you're a smoker working at a restaurant especially one with tea service please wait until after your shift to smoke. Onto the actual food - they had a set menu that was similar to what they usually serve. The scone was ok, the cream and the jam were tasty. The cucumber sandwich was the best one. The egg salad was inedible. The rest of the sandwiches were just ok. I get that they wanted to be prepared for the holiday but serving stale food with a holiday up charge was pretty disappointing.
