I instantly navigated myself to their website and booked a reservation. Fridays are charmingly named "Bu Tea Call Fridays" and admission is two for one! The lounge is located in a warehouse. As per the instructions in the email, we walked up to the loading dock and pressed the white doorbell. Sev, one of Bu Tea Den's co-owners, came out to greet and lead us into the tea den. In stark contrast to the industrial surrounding, the tea den is cozy, and, dare I say, a bit hip! The space is lit with the warm glow of paper lanterns. Towards the entrance, an entire turntable is set up where Sev DJ's. Mysterious AFTM's (Automated Fortune Telling Machines) offer to read your Chakra. Several nooks are scattered throughout for guests to sit. Tabletop games are available as well. As we were the first guests of the night, we made ourselves right at home at the bar with Natalie, our tea-rista. They both did an amazing job hosting us! Natalie had so much knowledge to share about tea, and I loved learning about Gong Fu style tea brewing. The price of admission will cover unlimited sips of their signature den blend, a mix of vanilla lemongrass, jasmine pearl, and white tea. It was delicious, light, and fragrant. We also got to try each of the three teas individually. My personal favorite was the jasmine pearl tea, which smelled absolutely amazing. Snacks are also complimentary, as much salty mochi bites and cheesy lotus seed as you'd like (selection may vary). Premium teas are also available for $10 each, and each order will come with 4-5 steeps. We selected the Sweet Potato Zheng Shan Xiao Shong, a black tea made with sweet potato. I loved it! I thought it was incredibly unique. I was super into how you could actually taste the sweet potato. And with Gong Fu brewing, the taste and intensity changes with each steep. My favorite iteration of this tea was its third steep as the sweet potato flavor and savoriness was at its strongest. Towards the end of our tea journey, Natalie whipped out a matcha shortbread cookie that was an absolute game changer for me. It was so good. The butteriness felt so ooh la la, but the best part was how this butter coated your tongue and enhanced the flavor of your tea tenfold! Retrying the den signature blend after having this cookie was insane... it was like I was drinking a whole different tea! But what I appreciated even more was Natalie's extraordinary ability as a conversationalist. Speaking with her was delightful, and she was patient enough to let me talk her ear off. Not only that, she remembered details about me, like how I was currently obsessed with matcha and in response, whipped out some matcha popcorn and matcha shortbread cookies. It really felt like the experience was curated to me, and I appreciated that greatly. I would definitely return to Bu Tea Den in the future with friends in tow. I think that spaces such as this are really needed, third spaces for people to go out, mingle, and enjoy a drink without having to drink alcohol. Shoutout to Edmund, Mary,and Janette. We had several courses. It was as follows: -Elderflower drink with strawberry and raspberry, potato chips, quail egg,and grapes. -Tea -Yorkshire Pudding(beef, chicken, shrimp &Lobster, cheese & tomato). Mary came with a tray to choose from twice. I chose shrimp & Lobster and cheese & tomato. They were savory, flavorful, airy, and perfectly delicious. The best Yorkshire Pudding I have ever tried. -Classic smoked salmon sandwiches with Champagne. - Heart shaped scone with strawberry, rich clotted cream, and jam. The tasting is great because you can try all of their flavors. My favorites are the ruby and Joimo's version of rose.
