I took my wife here for a afternoon birthday tea date. We ordered the alice in wonderland tea set and the birthday tea set. Quick shoutout to our server Sam (I hope I heard his name right) who accommodated my dietary restrictions and made sure to check often that everything was going great including food. The food was great and better than I expected compared to other afternoon teas that I've been to. One thing I noticed was how consistent they were with the toast. Just crispy enough on the outside yet the inner side was still soft. And that was for every sandwich that we ate. The scone was quite filling and bigger than I had expected. The cream and jam really helped with the flavor to contrast the scone texture. The desserts were as expected and everything went really well with the tea (a black tea and a white tea) that we picked. It was 100 degrees outside and the AC inside was strong enough to make hot tea feel like a perfect drink for our small bites. Overall, incredible experience and my wife was extremely satisfied. Happy wife = happy me. Service was also exceptional, which is one gripe I usually have with most food spots. We will definitely be back to try other sets on the menu.

I'd also love to see a few more dairy-free, vegan, and gluten-free options in the future. I know that's not their main focus, but it would make the menu more accommodating. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely return.
We ordered the Chado Afternoon Tea Service ($35 per person) & I would say that this is a VERY good price in comparison to other places that I've been to. Our server Sam was the absolute sweetest & he also gave us a complimentary drink! This place is the perfect space to host a fun event!
We visited Chado Tea Room for the Bridgerton tea experience and had a lovely afternoon. The ambiance is charming and cottagecore, making it a great choice for a bridal shower, baby shower, or special outing. The Bridgerton package was a fun touch, and Sam provided excellent service throughout our visit. The tea was excellent, and the warm scones with clotted cream were the highlight of the meal. My only wish is that the food matched the quality of the tea service. The sandwiches were fairly simple, and the pastries felt like an afterthought. For our anniversary, the staff kindly surprised us with ice cream, which was a thoughtful gesture, but it tasted fairly generic. Overall, you're paying for the experience, atmosphere, and tea service rather than the food itself. That said, we did leave with a tea set, which made for a nice takeaway and souvenir from the visit.
Such a cute tea experience! I took my younger cousin here and she loved it. All the dishes are cute, I love the presentation of the food, and the interior is really pretty. The staff is also kind. Very kid and adult friendly. The only feedback I would give is that the food was just OK tasting to me. Nothing that absolutely WOWed me, but was still alright.
Alice in Wonderland themed tea. The decorations are wonderful. The staff was very pleasant and very accommodating with our menu requests. I can never get enough of their cucumber sandwiches. The only thing I would switch is the raspberry non alcoholic champagne and have sparkling apple cider instead for a taste palette. I hope they keep the Alice theme for awhile.
Went to Chado Tea Room this past weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday. They had the Bridgeton special that weekend and it was the last week of that theme. I made a reservation two weeks in advance since this place is busy during the weekends. The waiter gave us the Bridgeton set menu and asked what tea we wanted. I opt for the Benedict's Artist Palette while my friends got the Violet's rose garden and Penelope's Hibiscus Chamomile. I would say the Violet rose garden tasted the best. The finger sandwiches were fun to eat and was able to try out the different kinds. The scone was dry but with the cream, it was really good. Also, we were provided gloves and fans with the high tea. The tea cups and tea pots were really detailed and pretty. There is no free parking in pasadena so we parked at the parking structure.
My daughter's baby shower last month was a wonderful event, thanks to Sam & his crew! From the planning to accommodating dietary needs, Sam was so friendly & helpful. Thank you!! Our large party (50 attendees) allowed us to take up the entire restaurant for 2 hours, not including the 30 min to decorate & set up beforehand. The afternoon tea service & four teas (Sam's recommendations) were delicious! You can't beat the price ($35 p.p. plus tax & 20% gratuity) for this level of quality & service. It was truly a full-circle moment, as my close girlfriends & I have been bringing our own daughters to Chado since the early 2000's. Can't wait to introduce a new generation to the joys of afternoon tea!
Spacious tea room. Very relaxing and pleasant atmosphere. Customer service is accommodating and delivers prompt service. With the limited-time Spring Afternoon Tea selection I ordered, they allow you to choose from the main tea menu instead of purely confined to ordering from the specific teas listed on the Spring Afternoon Tea menu. The highlight was the T-48 Margaret's Hope Black Tea - robust and flavorful, balanced, full-bodied and smooth. The appetizer salad was alright, needed more veggies and a more noticable vinegarette dressing. Some of the sandwiches and sweets were good but nothing noteworthy, but some were just lackluster and a little dry. Not one of the best tea food platters I've had. The tea though is top quality. Come here for the tea!

The tomato soup is really good and everything else (lox, cucumber sandwiches, chocolates, etc.) was what you would expect from a nice tea. Definitely eat the scone first and while it's warm. It tastes best when it's first served and the cream and jam go well. If you wait until later, it hardens a bit and isn't as enjoyable. There are lots of teas to choose from but you can only get one type, so choose wisely. (If you want to try a new one or get a new pot, it's additional.) We sat inside because there was more room. Outside there's a cute little patio area. If the tables away from the sidewalk are open, that seems cool. The seats right by the sidewalk seemed too close to people walking by. In a nice day, it's a tempting choice to sit outside. But inside was fine, as was the service. Overall, it's a nice, pretty affordable option for tea (considering how expensive some other places are) and I'm glad we tried it out.
The Valentine's menu was pleasant and easy to enjoy. It works well for a girls' outing or a casual birthday celebration, and I also saw many families dining there. They're currently offering a Valentine's promotion with 20% off teas, which is a nice bonus. This is a long-established tea room with over 35 years of history and an impressive selection of teas. Even just smelling the different tea aromas felt relaxing and healing. I personally prefer the indoor atmosphere at the Hollywood location, but at the Pasadena location, sitting outside is the way to go. Grabbing an outdoor table and enjoying the sunshine and fresh air really enhances the experience.

Nothing felt excessive, nothing felt lacking. What really made the day memorable was Sam himself. He was playful, genuinely warm, and laughed right along with our corny jokes, which made the celebration feel relaxed and fun. At one point, he even came over and shared his favorite tea with us--butterscotch--and wow... it was incredible. Rich, cozy, and easily one of the best teas I've had. We also tried a wine-inspired tea called Hawaiian Cocktail, served iced, and it was so refreshing--perfect for a warm day. I loved it so much that I ended up buying two ounces of loose leaf tea to take home. This was such a thoughtful, joyful birthday experience for my mom, and we couldn't have asked for better service. I would absolutely come back here again, no question. Ask for Sam!!

The seating area was nice. Went around 12pm, about an hour after they opened, so there was only one other party inside when I arrived. The food is filling and the tea is delicious. The staff are very kind and will explain the menu to you. They even helped with pictures and will offer to take pictures for you when you are just sitting, when the food first arrives, etc. Minus 1 star because the bathroom wasn't up to par. My mom, sister, aunt and I went to Chado for a nice Saturday girls day. We chose the Pasadena location specifically for the ambiance and it did not disappoint. Such a quaint interior with plenty of natural lighting and the most darling tea sets. The tea itself was delicious along with the sampling of food we got as part of the afternoon tea service. The service was truly the best part. Our server, Sam, was very attentive and even offered his expertise (or as we like to call it "exper-teas") and brought us his choice of teas to smell before selecting what pots we got. He even brought us a sample of iced tea at the end. Our favorite was the champagne raspberry but genuinely enjoyed each pot. Will absolutely be back! read more

This is a cute establishment. I wouldn't say it was high end "high tea" but definitely cute and a vibe. The staff were super nice and attentive. The cups and tea pots are adorable. The tea selection is a good size but not extensive. By was very delicious. The tomato soup was super delicious. You get a good selection of sandwiches and desserts. Made a reservation for the Chado In Wonderland for my sister's birthday. The service was so great and the teas and food were delicious, we took our time indulging in this special experience and we both love Alice In Wonderland, we thought it was great! After, we were both given a tea cup and saucer and my sister received a special birthday surprise. Would definitely do this again! The atmosphere was great as well. read more
My friend made a reservation at Chado and invited me to go with her after lunch. Since I hadn't been there since COVID, I was glad for the opportunity. The restaurant was fully decorated for Christmas--even in November. There was a beautiful Christmas tree right at the entrance, and the whole place felt warm and festive. Since we had just eaten lunch, we didn't have room for a full afternoon tea set, so we decided to share a pot of tea and each ordered a scone. I got an orange cranberry scone, and my friend chose a blueberry one. The tea came out nicely, and the scones were good as well. My friend enjoyed the clotted cream so much that she finished the whole thing. The surprise of the day was when Sam, who served us, brought us a complimentary taste of champagne. Classy, elegant decor. We really enjoyed our experience there. Sam, our server, was very kind and helpful with giving recommendations. Their gluten free bread for their sandwiches did not taste like it was gluten free. It was quite delicious. My party tried their regular menu and were very pleased. Their selection of teas and scones were great. Unfortunately they did not have any gluten free scones or gluten free other desserts. The macaroons might have been gluten free, as macaroons usually are, but I did not try them. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and will return. I recommend the chicken salad with cranberry sandwich and the lychee or mango green tea! read more

My daughter and I have been here twice & both times were fantastic. Easy to make a reservation in advance and parking is plentiful. Chado is a charming and special experience. Today we were pleasantly surprised to see a Bridgerton Tea menu so we both ordered that, she choose Sophia's earl grey tea and I ordered Penelope's hibiscus chamomile. Loved our matching elephant tea kettles. The scones were freshly baked, warm and delicious. The truffled egg salad, smoked salmon with fresh dill, cucumber cream cheese and smoked chicken salad sandwiches were all so tasty we couldn't decide on a favorite. A surprise gift was presented to us with our order and another one given at the end of our lunch (I wont say what they were in order to keep it a surprise for you.) I must also say that SAM was terrific! He checked on us often and made sure were completely satisfied from start to end. read more

We came here on a Sunday late morning for brunch. We had a reservation placed ahead of time. Excellent service. Sam was our server and he was great. The food was good. I ordered a panini, the others in my party ordered salads and paninis. The lemon tea was delish. There were two Latino servers for the whole restaurant at the time, they were polite and knowledgeable. The staff in the kitchen is also Latino. Not sure who owns Chado but I hope they pay staff well as the staff does an excellent job of manning the floor and kitchen. Parking is lot parking a couple blocks away. Street parking is also available. Get ready to walk a block or two. Recommended if you want to have a nice brunch or nice tea with friends and family, or with a loved one. read more

First time and last time. Not even if it's for free. Total let down. 1. Overpriced for less than cafeteria quality food. Trash. 2. Service wasn't skilled. Non verbal, young guy with black hat , dressed like dishwasher bring tiered plates with both hands and expect you to clear table for him. 3. Cups and drink ware were all mismatched, many have chipped(unacceptable). 4. Wanted a classy birthday experience for my wife, but left feeling scammed and grossed out. read more

Overall: 4 stars, an affordable place for afternoon tea experience. They offer a variety of sandwiches which were tasty, albeit some of the bread was a bit dry. The scones were dense and not the best. I would come here again to fill my afternoon tea craving. The Service: We had a reservation made through Yelp. Service was welcoming and the servers would consistently check on how we're doing. The Food: We ordered an afternoon tea set which included soup or salad, 3 types of sandwiches, scones, and a few desserts. The sandwiches were pretty good, but the bread was rather dry (as if it was sitting out for awhile. The scones were dense as well and somewhat diffcult to finish. I enjoyed the tea selections and the teas were strong in flavor which I appreciated it! Price: Reasonable price for afternoon tea and would be good for a special occasion/celebration. The Atmosphere: Beautifully decorated with matched the vibe perfectly for afternoon tea. It was cute! Parking: Located in Old Town Pasadena so the choices are either street parking or parking in a structure nearby. There is no dedicated parking for this restaurant. read more

If there's one thing I've grown largely fascinated and passionate about, it's indulging in the opulence and charm of high tea and Chado Tea Room in Pasadena offers just that! I LOVE their selection of teas and truly a limited entity you'll in the states, high tea is any tea lover's fantasy! My personal favorite selection is the Coconut Chai but the flavors here are eclectic and quite diverse which I admire. All of the treats included in the high tea afternoon service were delicious complements to our tea. The staff members are dedicated to the art and knowledgable! As a fond lover of high tea, I sincerely hope to visit back and see more establishments such as these arise in the future. read more

I'm not that much of a tea person, but I still will give credit to where it's due:) My favorites were the Wine inspired tea and the Lemon Chiffon since it had notes of Lavender. We were a big party, but I wish they specified exactly which teas they had left on our table a little bit more or had them labeled more clearly. I do like the amount of food we got. Started off with soup or salad. soup was pretty good (tomato bisque) and the salad was not good at all. Of the 3 tier food we got, my favorites were the scones with the yummy whipped cream and jams. We came to Chado Tea Room in Pasadena for a friend's blog launch and had a lovely time! The setting is beautiful and cozy, charming, and perfect for an afternoon tea hangout. It does get quite busy on weekends, so definitely plan ahead. Each of us had a tea set that came in the classic three tiers: scone on top, sandwiches in the middle, and cookies at the bottom. The salmon sandwich was our favorite, super tasty and fresh! The teas were excellent too; we had the lavender tea, which was fragrant and calming. Service was friendly and attentive, though parking was a bit of a challenge. We ended up parking about 10 minutes away and walking over. Still, it was worth it for the experience. It's best to book with them directly instead of booking online as I have seen people have problems with making reservations online. Also, if you call them, they might be able to tell you if they have any special menu for Mother's Day in the future.

The tea room is in Old Town Pasadena, surrounded by plenty of shops to explore. While street parking can be a bit of a treasure hunt, the Old Pasadena Marriott Parking Lot is a great spot to safely tuck your car away!
Can I bring a cake or dessert for a birthday celebration?
Absolutely! We do offer plenty of desserts in house. However, if you still wish to bring your own cake then there is a $25 cake cutting fee associated with outside desserts.

They have some great tea and chocolate tasting sets. I strongly recommend jumping on Groupon to see what deals they have. The deals change frequently.
