Chaguito's was a regular stop for me before Covid/quarantine. However, I didn't visit after quarantine. I decided to buy some food there. There is a difference. The food tastes different now. I used to get tacos de lengua or rolled tacos. But after eating some tacos de lengua, it wasn't good. It tasted bland and a little burned. Their tacos de lenguas don't taste as good compared to previous years. I recommend eating rolled tacos at the restaurant instead of taking them home if you order them. After you bring them home, they become soggy as soon as you eat them if you order with everything; if not, they're okay. read more

Place was clean. Food was reasonably priced. Quality of food was great! Only had a torta but it was delicious! It was a little early for lunch (11 am) but people were still going in and ordering a torta (why I decided to order an asada one) and I was pleasantly surprised! The food here is great. The service? Not so much. That will make or break a business. When the owner worked there they always answered the phone for takeout orders and never refused to take your order because they "are about to close". Yesterday we were driving back from Bakersfield, so we called to order. We called 5 times and no answer. We decided to try stop by since we were passing through anyway. From the parking lot, we saw the girls at the front counter talking and the restaurant was empty. No customers. We purposely tried calling and they still didn't answer. So continue ignoring the phone girls. Chisme over business. The sad part is the owner probably has no clue. He lost out on $65 order. sometimes, you just need tripas in your life. crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, enveloped by a tortilla fresh off the comal. the tripas (and other) tacos here are quite good. they definitely fulfilled my craving of deep fried innards. as lovely as the tacos were, I was less enthralled by my torta. perhaps it's cuz it was late afternoon and the bolillos were not fresh out of the oven. perhaps it was the overdusting of flour atop the bolillo. maybe it was the oddly dry carnitas. I got a carnitas burrito. It was soooo oily that it made my burrito fall apart. I had to eat with a fork. Also the carnitas were really dry. I ended up only eating the rice and beans in the burrito. I had their asada tacos before and they were great, but this burrito was a mess. read more

I was in Porterville for some business and was hungry. I used to go to this place over 10 years ago and haven't been here since. Still a very nice building, you walk in and lots of brick, tile and stone everywhere. You pass by the panaderia and can't help to see what you are going to eat for dessert later. The young lady who took my order was very friendly and helpful. I ordered two tacos, one of Carne Asada and one of Carnitas. Both came out very greasy, sorry. The tortillas were soaked in too much grease, which makes it hard to eat. The asada meat had a funny taste to it, but the carnitas were very good. I ended up buying some mexican pan, which was not very good either. Sorry, but thier quality of food has gone down. I won't be back. read more

The Torta.Mexican sandwich. This sandwich has many renditions but this is one of the best. They don't use mayo like a lot of want to be places that ruin the Torta. They use pure flavor. The food here is fantastic! I had been here before when the place was a small shop so, I knew what to expect. I had also been there when they moved to the nice building so, I wanted to take my husband to this place to check out how California Taquerias are. We didn't buy any bakery items, but he whole place smelled of fresh bread. My kids also wanted French fries so, they took a little longer..they were steak fries and piping hot. Now the bad news. There was a terrible leak in the ceiling which dripped directly into the salsa bar. I am sure that it is a health hazard. The worst part is that the ceiling had mold on it which indicated that the leak had been like that for a while. and there was no indication of a fix, or signs of management doing anything about it (no buckets to catch the water). nothing... the garbage cans were really full and no one was out cleaning so, either they are really short staffed on the day that I came in or they are indifferent to the appearance of the place provided that they are still selling food. This made me question...what does the kitchen look like...Its a shame, because this place was really good. read more

Food was great, inside of restaurant was comfortable except the Air Conditioner was leaking through the ceiling directly into the cart with all the fixings to add to the tacos! I ordered and paid before seeing this or I would have walked out. I had beef lengua (Tongue), ice tea with raspberry, home made flan, and steak fries. Everything was great, the flan was not too sweet like a lot of restaurants serve it. Minus the AC leak from the ceiling (which looked like it had been there a while dripping onto my back) and into the cart of food it would easily be a four star as the furniture is nice, sturdy, comfortable, wood and tile. The floor is a nice tile and the building itself is a nice brick structure with ample parking. Good, fast service and the food tasted fresh and flavorful. I enjoyed their salsa bar, even though the guacamole (was that guacamole?) was really watery. I didn't really enjoy my fish tacos, it was more... fried outside than fish. And my fountain drink didn't have a discernible taste--it was just an amalgamation of it's neighboring beverages. I'm willing to say I perhaps chose poorly, like how you're not supposed to get the Filet O Fish at McD's 'cause everyone KNOWS it just dwells in leftover oil all the live long day. It has a nice dining area, but we were NOT thrilled to be sharing the space with an inquisitive cockroach. Bathrooms were kinda gross, but, my friend said still better than a gas station restroom. (they have added more items to the menu lately....don't bother with the nachos) Tacos are cheap and yummy. You can make two tacos out of each one if you separate the tortillas. Their horchata is pretty darn good. Salsa, oh the red salsa. Thank god that stuff is always there on their salsa bar...it's great. The avocado slurry isn't so great but the salsa makes up for it! This is a sort of upscale fast mexican food place and in a town filled with mexican places it rises up near the top You place your order with the cashier, get a number and wait for it to be called (while waiting can get your bakery fix filled -- grab a tray and some tongs - the jalapeno cheese croisants or whatever they are called are my fave) then they call your number, you get your food and head to the condiment stand to add choice of topping such as pico, red salsa (oh my god - just thinking of it starts me drooling like pavlov's dog) pickled stuff, and a weird avocado sauce (somehow it works) then you get to dig in must try are their abodagas (sp?? okay its some sort of bbq) in a torta makes a wonderfully sloppy torta - make sure you are wearing a shirt you dont mind staining cause the juices WILL run down your forearms if you pick it up to eat the tacos are great (load em up on stuff from the bar) mostly all of the meats that I have tried are great and a tip with the nachos, get them to go the day before you want them, add some red salsa to it, keep in the fridge overnight and the next day voila!! a mexican lasagna sorta dish (can you tell I like this place?) only semi downside - during peak times (lunch and post church) the parking lot gets filled and is hard to turn around in read more

This is one of the best, cheapest, hidden Mexican spots in town. The burritos are huge and equally delicious. Definitely try the Carne Asada, too. I was in the area and craving some authentic tacos and unfortunately it was not a day the Lindsay Farmers Market was on. Luckily, my friend recommended this place and lemme tell you, it's pretty incredible. There's a good amount of pastries to choose from and the menu is well organized and easy to read. Although it is a bit confusing with there being two separate counters to buy the pastries at and another to buy food at. The pastries are pretty good and the tacos are quite flavourful as well. As for atmosphere, it was clean but other than that nothing special. The pastries and taco's make up for anything lacking in decor. read more

Muy sabrosa!!! We were taking a leisurely drive through the Yokol Valley and intentionally stopped here for lunch. My husband had last eaten here about 4 years ago and remembered the tortas!! He ordered a Carne Asada torta which was large, tasty and incredibly complimented with items from the salsa bar. I ordered two tacos, one tongue and the other adoba pork!!! Okay food. Tacos are full of meat. The salsa bar is pretty legit, probably the best thing about this place. The asada was kind of bland, carnitas were passable, tripas tasted right, but I prefer tripas a little crispier. The torta was big, but nothing really to write home about. First off, it smells amazing as soon as you walk in! Fresh baked pastries and Mexican breads which taste just as good as they smell. The meat is tender, Juicy, and flavorful and I have yet to find a dish I do not like. Top choices are the torta with soft fresh baked bread and the quesataco for all its goodness.
