The staff is SO nice! It is a clean, well run Inn. Motel I think? 2 floors. All the rooms seem similar. I felt safe and cared for- the pool is clean. Linens were clean, I needed a place to stay for 3 weeks on and off. I will go back as the price is reasonable, the staff really cares and I felt fortunate to find this gem during high season. There is a bit of dampness in the rooms but, it quickly fades. If you are looking for luxury, this is probably not your choice, but a clean room, safe surroundings and extremely thoughtful staff made all the difference for me. 2nd time staying at the Chalet, and even though I knew the rooms where very dated it is in a great location and the last time it was very clean. This time was very different than the first. This time the room was damp and cold, but it is winter and with such an old place that is to be expected. The mattresses really need to be replaced, most uncomfortable sleep ever! But the real issue for me was the bedding, the bedding was actually dirty. And it wasn't only the one bed, it was BOTH!!!(we had two queen size beds) The first thing I do when I go to a hotel is check the bedding. I work at one so I know exactly where to look for housekeeping shortcuts. This was totally unacceptable! Luckily I am a bit of a clean freak and always bring along my own set of sheets just in case. My husband always laughs at me for it, but not this time! lol I did make the front desk aware, they didn't offer anything because of the inconvenience, which is okay, but hopefully they will address the issue with housekeeping. read more

Stayed here after a wedding nearby. The rooms are a bit dated but everything was very clean and comfortable. The pool looked beautiful but we didn't have a chance to use it. We had a king room and I found the bed to be very comfortable. Everything was quiet and staff was helpful. The person at the desk during check in even showed us a shortcut to the wedding venue so we didn't have to walk the road, which was super helpful! It was much more affordable than the other alternatives in the area and in perfect distance to the Waters Edge venue. I would book a stay again. read more

My husband drove 13 hours through the night with my two sons (ages 18 + 17) for their grandmother's funeral. I made the booking on the phone but when my husband got there he was told it was an extra $16 because my son is a minor. Every other place I have ever stayed they sometimes charge extra for more than two adults, but for a minor? The TV does not work and instead of dealing with it themselves , the front desk clerk had my husband get on the phone with the cable company. Apparently all that is needed is an HDMI cable but the man said "I'm just gonna have the cable company come out here, I don't know what an HDMI cable is" This is unacceptable in my opinion, to charge extra for a child and then not bother to make sure a basic amenity like a television is provided. It is our second time staying there and my husband is too tired to make a fuss, but we will never stay there again. read more

The rooms are clean and the bathrooms are large and fairly recently renovated. The beds weren't the most comfortable, but they weren't the worst either. Overall, the rooms could definitely use an update, but for an old motel in a primarily residential area, it could've been worse. The best part about this motel is the exterior! I took my daughters on a quiet getaway to Centerport and we stayed here at the Chalet. A little off the beaten path this place is truly a gem. It was exactly what I was looking for, secluded enough that I felt like I was upstate yet only a few minutes away from town. Girls can't travel unless there is a CVS nearby. Moms don't do well unless there is a Dunkin Donuts nearby, so we were set. We spent two days just enjoying the outdoor pool which is expertly maintained. Clean, quiet, and the perfect temperature. The room was clean, and the air conditioner worked perfectly. Our only slight issue was the shower and some temperature issues with the water but the Chalet had a plumber on site fixing some issues and the staff was completely on top of whatever was going on. Honestly can't say enough about this treasure of a place. Looking forward to more getaways here, I think I have found my favorite spot. read more

Chalet Inn is located in the Centerport area of Long Island. It is a very old motel and one of the few in the area which is an old residential neighborhood. The rooms are very old and badly need renovations. The bathroom needs a uplift and remake immediately. The bed also requires new mattresses as they are rock hard. Overall, the room has a pungent smell (especially the drapes and bed covers). The staff at the reception were friendly and they had a decent selection of breakfast ready at 6am, which was nice. This place is an absolute dump. The management is incredibly rude. The bedding is ripped and has stains all over it. Pets aren't allowed due to "cleanliness issues" yet the owner lets her dog run in and out of every room. No hot water in the shower or the sink and ants everywhere. All around disgusting. read more

I recently had a death in the family and this place was the closest to the funeral. I was really scared by the other reviews of this place, but I didn't have too much of a choice. When I arrived I needed to put my credit card down for a $40 deposit on the key. Yes it was an honest to God, key. I thought this was odd, but I did get the deposit back on my check out, so who really cares? My room was very clean. No bugs. The flat screen tv worked wonderfully. There was a small fridge. I also saw that someone said there was no wifi. Well, a couple of years later things have certainly changed. They have their own and the area is covered very well by Optimum. There is also a local pizza place and a few restaurants not far. It looks as if this place has gotten it's act together in the last couple of years, as the other reviews are pretty old now. read more

We stayed at this place 10/10/2010 and from the second we walked in to the makeshift front desk, we knew we were in for a bad night. We got our room and could tell right away that this place was in total disrepair. First, there was the musky smell, second, the windows did not shut, third, there were bugs all over the bathroom and who only knows how many other bugs were in other places we chose not to look in. In my efforts to close the window, I actually split my thumb open when it closed on me. And after just taking two steps on the carpet, the bottom of my white socks felt moist and turned brown. Our original reservation was for two nights but we canceled the second night on day one. I'm not if two years have made a difference but according to a post from 2011, not so much. A hotel with a view and a migraine. I'll keep this short and to the point. I like others read the reviews and the comments by the owners, and I thought by now the hotel would have been fixed up. That's not the case. 1. The parking lot has a dozens of huge potholes, I nearly ruined my car pulling in at night. 2. The heavy smell of chemical cleaners gave me a migraine. The smell of smoke in these rooms and beds is disgusting. 3. Safety is not a concern as they still use normal household keys, not electronic. 4. The rooms are outdated. My toilet seat was broke and stained, but they put a piece of paper around it stating it was cleaned. It was disgusting. I understand it's a family owned business and money is tight. I don't expect a flat screen TV, but I do expect a room to not get me sick from chemicals and smoke. The nail in the coffin on this review was due to a toilet seat stated to be clean but it was not fastened down and full of nasty chips and stains. read more

I stayed at the Chalet Inn for 5 days and 4 nights. As a woman traveling alone, this was a perfect place for me because I felt extremely safe, and it was very clean. It is located by a lake, therefore it was beautiful. I sat outside my room enjoying the scenery. This establishment is family owned, and operated, and they made me feel like a part of their family. All I can say is this woman Donna who is the manager you are ruthless down right cold and evil and cares nothing more about her money. During the whole pandemic situation she forced me out and was very argumentative in the lobby after I had told her about me situation with my job- she simply responded back as that was not her problem and that she did not want to continue to take my money but when I paid for the last week after she called my hotel room at 8am abruptly. This woman was down right cruel and since she only cared about money or how she would get paid for just one day that was missed this woman blandly has issues and all I can say is you reap what you sow. I will never recommend no one stay at this crappy motel, they have nothing more than a bunch of carbs and fatty foods for breakfast which they restrict you from a good balanced diet. Corn muffins? The only reason this place gets two stars from me instead of one is because they were able to accommodate my family for a longer period of time and it was relatively quiet. If one of the extended stay places in the area had availability, I would have preferred to go elsewhere. The WiFi was complimentary, but barely worked in the evenings. The TV in the bedroom was a tube TV. There was not a single premium cable channel. The rollout couch was held together with duct-tape. The filter in the AC/heater was so filthy, when we needed the heat, it started burning and set off the smoke alarm. The room smelled like cat urine when you turned on the AC. We asked for one extra towel and were denied. The towels did not absorb much water at all. The shower turned from scalding hot to freezing if anyone else was showering in the building. The coffee maker made the coffee taste like plastic. You couldn't open the windows because there were no screens and you would let many bugs in. The plate over the plugs in the bedroom was off. The lights in the ceiling were different types of bulbs and lit the place very oddly and made my head hurt. The parking lot is rutted and full of holes and will destroy your suspension and wheels. The gazebo and patio area by the pond is dangerous and falling apart. There is no fan in the bathroom. There are patches and spots in the ceiling. You have to run the AC to keep it from being muggy in the room. The bar chairs are too tall to sit comfortably at the counter. The couch is falling apart. The floor was so dirty, your socks or feet turned black. I brought this to the front desk's attention and instead of simply saying that they'll take care of it, they got into an argument with each other about, "Well, why wasn't it cleaned?" Overall, the staff was fine, except for the surly, old man behind who was behind the desk occasionally. read more

Gross is the only word that really comes to mind. The first room I was given had no less than a dozen insects in the bathroom sink & the toilet seat had been completely removed and was sitting on the floor. So I asked for a second room. Less bugs in the sink, but still a bunch in the shower. The entire room smelled like mildew. Also, if you're over 6' you won't fit comfortably on the bed and they had "foot boards" as well as head boards, so you'll need to sleep on an angle. Not a fan. read more

It must be horrible to be a wedding guest in the area and, after a long trip, be ushered to a room here. I stayed one night after a long road trip, hoping for a hot bath and a good rest. What I got was a room that was long overdue for an update in a hotel that should really be torn down and rebuilt. There was a bad odor from the textiles. There were no curtains or blinds on the bathroom window! It was too iffy to wash in the grubby shower. Stephen King could have used this place for inspiration, especially the snack machine area, which was really falling apart. At night there were bugs on the floor in the bathroom that scurried when the light was turned on. Sleeping fully clothed on top of the bedding seemed like right choice, other than going out and sleeping in the car. There was supposed to be breakfast but there wasn't even milk or cream for the awful coffee. The aloof morning staff person was unconcerned when a fellow traveler complained about the lack of fare. My wife made reservations for 3 nights (June 14-16) several months ago. We were coming East from California to celebrate my father in laws 90th Birthday. She called two weeks before the trip to confirm the reservation and request a king bed. The person she spoke to confirmed the reservation and king bed. When we arrived on the 14th at 8:30, we were told by a man that our room was given away because they didn't have a credit card. He did show us a paper binder that had our name and that it was crossed out. At know time during the phone calls my wife had did staff request a credit card. Given that the US Golf Open was taking place farther out on Long Island, I'm sure the room was given away at a higher price. Looking at other Yelp reviews, indicates this has been a problem for others. Needless to say we will not be returning to this horrible establishment and if this system would allow I would give the Chalet Inn & Suites -5 Stars. Matt read more

Perfectly nice little motel on Long Island where there are not a lot of lodging options. The gent at the front desk was super nice. It was indeed an honest to god room key which is charming for an old Gen X-er like me. Our room was clean, bed was comfy, TV and wifi were great. Other guests were quiet and there is plenty of parking. Free continental breakfast is not fancy but the coffee was good and there was some fresh fruit which was unexpected. Would stay here again if in the area, and no reason you shouldn't check them out too. (PS I am paranoid about bugs and we didn't see any.) read more

My family stayed at The Chalet for four days last week- we have stayed here in the past for convince purposes . I grew up in Centerport and you cannot beat the location when coming back to visit . That said, it is the only positive thing I can say about this out-dated, dark, dirty hotel. The bed comforters are dirty, the towels ( you get two and you need to request more) are completely non absorbent , the bathrooms are equally horrible, however, there was an updated shower head. Someone said they were putting in a pool, though I cannot imagine why - if they have funds to spare the investment should be aimed at upgrading the rooms and bathrooms . Again- if you are staying in the Centerport, Northport ,Greenlawn area it is a very convenient location . Bring your own towels and blankets , you will not want to use what is provided . read more

Wow, this place really doesn't deserve a 2 star average on here. The curb appeal of this place is pretty bad from the street, especially at night, and the parking lot probably has some of the worst pavement I've encountered. The front desk looks to be straight out of the 1970s/80s, they still use keys (as opposed to keycards), and the decor in the rooms is also quite dated. If you can get past that, this is really a fantastic hotel- especially for the price. The property may be dated, but it is kept up beautifully aside from the parking lot- the room, while old, is comfortable and in great shape. Honestly, I think new carpeting, new lampshades, new curtains, and new linen would bring the room pretty well up to date. The room is also spotless, and they clean it well between nights (most budget hotels will just leave clean towels and make the beds between nights for a guest that is staying multiple nights). This hotel is also in a very nice, safe area that also isn't too far from anything. In all, you can really tell that the owners care about this place, and I don't think you can beat it for the price on Long Island. You just have to have your expectations in line. read more

This hotel is in desperate need of updates. Pulling in to the parking lot be careful of giant pot holes that are large enough to cause damage to your vehicle. Upon checking in I learned we would only be given 1 key to share but they think this is okay because someone is at the front desk that can let us in the room 24 hrs a day. I was also advised there is a refrigerator in the room, which is great, but there is nothing else. No coffee pot, no toaster etc. (I understand having no toaster as that is a hazard). Walking in the room I was surprised at the fullness of the lighting in the room. The bedspreads look to be straight out of 1985 and have likely been there since that time. I pulled back the sheets to check the mattress for bugs and found none so that was good. The pillows are thin and useless, so if you want to have a good nights sleep bring your pillow and I hope you enjoy a bed that is hard as a rock. Taking a shower in this establishment you are taking a risk. The water is either scalding hot or freezing cold and even if you get it to a temperature that isn't burning you it will suddenly run out of warm, there are no slip resistant bottom in the shower so be careful it is slippery. The sink did not drain properly. The power plugs are super old and only 2 of the 4 plugs were tight enough to stay in, so we had to unplug the phone and clock to be able to charge anything at bedside. There was some nasty brown substance (I will just keep telling myself it was chocolate) on the remote control and I had to ask the maid to clean it (which she did). The amenities in the room are bare, no hair dryer in the room (they may have them at the desk but I didn't ask). They didn't supply many towels and I needed another wash cloth which I requested at the front desk and never got. The continental breakfast is not good. The coffee they serve is watery and the only options are milk and sugar so don't expect a flavored coffee (or good coffee). The employees were all very nice. I would not return. They respond to negative criticism stating they are making improvements but the things they say they are fixing 5 years ago still are not fixed. They should be worried, until now they are the only hotel over that way, but northport just approved a hotel build and I am sure it will be competition. The view is pretty from a few spots on the property, but the view from our room was obstructed and included broken down vehicles. read more

I don't think this place was as bad the reviews lead you to believe. It is definitely a throwback to a different time and era with the decor and actual room keys. The grounds alongside were very pretty with a lake backdrop. I do agree the parking lot can use some renovating and I think people have more of an issue with this (The parking lot) then the actual hotel itself. I also believe if it was located behind the hotel people would have commented on it less. Bottom line is at least for my room it had a clean and comfy bed, flat screen TV and a renovated sink portion of the bathroom. Some of it was dated but ,I would have no issues going there again for an overnight trip. Maybe it hit a nostalgic chord or maybe my like of all things of the "Mad Man" era but I liked it. read more

The guy at the desk basically just told us there was nothing he could do even I showed him my phone record calling in 3 weeks ago. Had to drive for 50 min to find another place to stay for the night. Will never go back again. And be careful booking with them as they do not send confirmation for reservation, there would be many possibilities how it happened to us and none of them was good. This has to be likely the worst place I've ever stayed anywhere in the U.S. or even outside of the U.S. I wrote a review on tripadvisor and a few reviews followed mine that HAD to be written by the owner's friends, employees or something. This place is disguisting. It smells (even in the office), the rooms smell musty and gross. The carpet has very visible stains, the shower was so dirty I didn't go in it without wearing flip flops (glad I brought them), The front desk personnel were rude and had the nerve to overcharge me on my credit card so I had to go home and dispute the charges with the bank (bank said they'd had issues with this very SAME motel before, go figure). There was NO wifi, no cell phone reception and they charge you a deposit if you want your room phone to work - not usually an issue at any other inn but w/o any cell phone reception, it was. I had to drive down the road just to make a call on my cell phone...nice. This was without a doubt the worst place I have ever stayed and I've only touched on a few of the issues. Oh, but I have to agree with other reviewers, yes, there were bugs in the room too. Cleanliness is not a priority at this place, nor is friendliness. I would give this one a PASS and an EPIC FAIL. read more
