My daughter and I were in San Deigo ( Softball Tounament ) for a week and found this place. Great service and talk with the owner, Hafa Larry. We talked about the food and what part of Guam where the recipes were from. Even though there are a few variations on how to make some of the items. It was a great find to get some home tasting food on the go. I will definitely be back if im down that way again. We decided to visit Chamorro Grill during our stay in San Diego due to a recommendation that we had gotten from one of our friends back home who said it was her uncle's restaurant. The restaurant was easy to find and was located right beside a Polynesian dance studio, which was fun to watch classes go on as we enjoyed our food! This was the first time myself and my husband had ordered island type food, so everything was new to us! The staff was very friendly and took the time to explain what each dish consisted of and how it was prepared, in addition to recommending some choices. I decided to try out the mixed combo of BBQ Chicken & BBQ Beef with the fried rice and pancit, while my husband decided upon the ribs plate. The food was prepared fresh and did not take terribly long to prepare from the time we ordered. The portions were very large and definitely perfect for sharing with others. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted great! This was very enjoyable for us to experience and we definitely will go back again before we head back east! read more

Stopped by here for lunch the other day. The name of the place caught my eye. Didn't know what chamorro meant, so my curiousity brought me inside...glad I did! Small, quaint place in a strip mall w/ pics of Guam on the walls. Very friendly service w/ a big smile. :-) They do have a flat screen tv in the corner on which I watched Giada from the food network making pizza rolls while waiting for my order (just made me hungrier!). Anyways, I enjoyed their pancit & empanada (made from corn masa w/ a chicken & rice filling)...yummy. Would definitely come to try more from their menu. read more

I have a bunch of Chamorro friends from college and they are always talking about this place. One time, I went with a group of them and experienced it for myself. The food is definitely filling for such a good price! The chicken kelaguen is definitely something you should try! Mmm and the BBQ short ribs with red rice is delicious too! This place has really great food! The only problem is that you may have to wait a little while to get it. It's worth the wait though, because it's so delicious! I love that they have Filipino flavors as well as all of the Guamanian food. read more

Been here twice... once a couple years ago when they first opened and then again a few months ago. First visit was just okay... though I thought my order came out very oily (both the red rice and chicken kelaguen). However, I wanted to give Chamorro Grille a second try and came back again. Result? My experience was worse the last. Though customer service was okay, whatever I ordered had small portions for a steep price. Small high light was the ambiance (loved the simple island feel with the decore and music). Food was tasty. However I noticed after overhearing another customer put in their order that the cashier didn't offer me the choice of red or white rice. Left disappointed since I really wanted to like this place, especially since there aren't too many places to get Chamorro food. Sorry Chamorro Grille, will not be returning. :( read more

Chamorro grill came up because of a comparison of the chicken kelaguen to sisig. ive been here 1 time prior but didnt get the kelaguen. so i thought i'd try it. We've ordered from here a few times now, and we love this place. We usually order tons of red rice and kelaguen. The prices are decent, and the staff are always smiling and helpful. We will continue to order from here, as we can always count on them to provide some of the tastiest Guamanian food locally. read more

Ended up only getting 1/2 of my alternative (ran out of chicken kelaguen!) w/o being asked or notified that there was only 1 short rib left. Also told they ran out of pancit. Good, but didn't blow me out of the water. The beef was a little fatty. It reminds me of Ono Hawaiian BBQ.

I like their red rice and chicken kelaguen here. Very similar to how it was in Guam. But everytime I come here they never have the dessert latiza. read more

It was good for a good price! I liked that they kept the place really tidy and the staff was really nice. The only negative thing I had to say was that almost all of the customers that had come in, including ourselves had to wait 30-40 mins. for their food, unless you called it in. At least the staff was nice and apologized to everyone about the wait. read more

Delicious!!! I've been here a few times and tried some of their items and so far, all that I have tried are very yummy. My favorite is the chicken kelaguen with red rice. The BBQ beef short ribs are so flavorful too! I have yet to try the pork ribs tonight. The pancit is okay, but that's coming from a Pinay who grew up eating the traditional Filipino Pancit. Had the spam musubi with red rice too. They are nice and hefty and can really fill you up. The dessert I can't get enough of is the banana lumpia. It looked like it had some sweet coconut inside and chocolate. It is not cloyingly sweet like some banana lumpias I've had before which is a plus. I love that you van dip it in chocolate as well. I'm so glad I live in the area so I can frequent this gem of a place! read more

Chamorro Grill was a nice surprise. Menu had many selections. I had the Garlic Shrimp and my son had the Short Ribs. We also ordered spam masubi's and lumpia. With the exception of the lumpia, everything else was wonderful. The garlic shrimp was in a coconut broth which I absolutely loved and I could taste the garlic right away. The short ribs were not full of fat, like the ones you typically get from L&L and the spam masubi was really tasty with the japanese/seafood sprinkle. I recommend trying it if you are in the area. read more

I can only compare them to L&L's Hawaiian BBQ, although, they do have different items that L&L's doesn't have. Chamorro Grill is a bit overpriced, especially since you don't get nearly as much food as you would at L&L's. Their BBQ doesn't taste greasy and is very well marinated. Their red rice is nothing to do backflips for, but their chicken kelaguen was really tasty and some of the best Chamorro kelaguen I have tasted in a while. My family chops the chicken more finely, but Chamorro Grill gives you chunks of chicken! Definitely worth trying! read more

When I first moved to the Mission Valley area I was craving some katsu, and I saw this place was nearby so we checked it out. Katsu was okay, and their macaroni salad was okay as well. Boyfriend got pancit and he said it was good. I may have to go back and try some of their other food because it's nice that I live nearby. read more

Food is fresh, great flavor and good variety. I love any Island/Hawaiian BBQ that isn't L&L. They are right down the hill from my house so I will be visiting way more often. Been going here for years, what the hell happened. Food portions are small, some of the food prices were wrong, they forgot some of the side dishes that came with the meals and my kelugun musubis looked like they were made by a 2yr old and resembled a half made sushi roll than a musubi. The wait was crazy, our food sat on the counter because the cashier was not proficient enoungh. I had to go up and ask if that was our food and still had to wait for her. We finally got to sit down and our combo plates looked like they were off the kids menu. They must have been getting low on red rice because we all literally got barely any. My boy got a bbq beef, it was 5 thinly sliced pcs spread over cabbage to make it look big. I got bbq chicken and it was not even a whole piece, looked like the portioned it to fill our orders. Oh yeah, look at your receipt, they over charged us on a item and didn't give us full order. When we brought it to the cashiers attention, she said it was "tax". Lol, I'm in the food and beverage industry, that's not tax. Maybe I should contact the dept of weights and measures to have them go and audit the menu... The only thing that was right was the Loco moco, it was good enough. Such a bummer that this place went down hill, this was the 2nd time in 3 weeks that it was bad. Sucked that I brought my friends from out of town and raved about going here and was so disappointing! I wanted to like this place. Came in at 6:30 with no line. ordered a short rib plate with chicken kelaguen. Got my food at 7:10 with only two pieces of short ribs for $12. Red rice, Mac salad and kelaguen should all be ready already. Food is grill to order so come here if you want to wait 40 minutes for them to grill 2 1/8 inch thick ribs. read more

Disappointing....truly disappointing! I live in South OC and do not frequent San Diego, nor do I frequent CHamoru foods. However, when I have a chance to visit a CHamoru restaurant, I hold the restaurant to high standards. You can only imagine how disappointed I was visiting this establishment. Firstly, being born, raised, and established on Southern Guam, I expect a lot from mainland establishments that want to represent CHamoru food. I raise my darn bar, that's for sure. I walked in to this restaurant for the first time and the first things I noticed were the Tiki Totems and Hawaiian islands décor. Hell...this was NOT Guam or anything CHamoru!! Someone fire the designer....grrr! Talk about confused. Second, I could barely understand the menu font (I've even got 20/20 vision). I had to read and re-read and keep reading to be able to understand what my hunger was craving for. After finally deciding, we proceeded to order. The first bill came out to $35.00. Ok, so perhaps we ordered too much? While we sat and waited for our food, I remembered that I was truly craving the chicken kelaguen and failed to place an order for it. I returned to the register and proceeded to order the kelaguen. I decided that because it was going to be a while before I eat CHamoru food again, I was needing to order this chicken kelaguen to-go. WTH....$20.00 for the pint of Chicken Kelaguen? I could buy a rotisserie chicken (original flavor), make my own darn kelaguen, and make more than a pint of it for the same price. I proceeded to order it anyway because I wanted to bring it home as I was probably not going to be in San Diego for a while. By this time we have waited approximately 40 minutes for our food. Mind you, we were dining in. The flow of customers continued to roll in and I was realizing that there was one cook who was preparing foods for dine-in customers and for phone orders. However, the phone orders were rolling out quickly while we continued to wait for our foods in the dining area. #disappointing By the time our food came to our table, we had already waited for almost an hour. This was appalling and unappreciated, especially when we began ingesting our tasteless dishes. We waited long for no apparent wow factor. Needless to say, when I opened the kelaguen the following day I was appalled at how much I paid for it and the dish was tasteless as well. #MeThinksNot Why do the CHamoru restaurants in California continue to disappoint me? I probably should lower my standards, chaud style! Unless you can find yourself satisfied at budget type tasting foods, do not visit this establishment. You are far better off with the can of spam in your pantry, like I will be. #notreturning read more

Yes! Another Guamanian food joint, which are rare and few in SD.. man this place is good and i'd been craving for some kelaguen for a long time. Pair that with red rice, and i'm a happy camper. Prices are fair and location is convenient off the 15 fwy. Can't wait to come back and eat more kelaguen. And I know some people say that the portion is small for $5.99 but it's filling and good quality so I'm not complaining one bit! read more

I used this small hole in the wall to cater my wedding. They were really awesome and while they had trouble finding the location they were able to feed 100+ people and everyone liked it and we were able to basically feed everyone for about 8-9 dollars a plate. That my friend is an amazing deal, not to mention they drove all the way up to Poway to deliver. Defintely give them a chance, their short ribs are great as well as their red rice and Kelaguen. read more
