Not a bad choice for airport food with good cocktails. Located near the Lufthansa senator lounge at DTW, I came here for early dinner before my flight. I started my dinner with Apple Martini, it wasn't overly sweet but just sweet enough and right amount of alcohols, it helped me unwind after intense work days while in town. I had gyro for my meal... first time I had gyro was near here and it just brought back a good memory. I don't think I've ever had bad gyro before. Always consistently good, when I see gyro on a menu, i can count of them to have decent meal. Service was good, perhaps a bit slower considering they weren't that busy when I first arrived. Instead of opting for the typical airport staples, we came here, knowing Champps ALWAYS delivers. Wait...how does that adage go? Never Say Never? How about, Never Say Always?! First off... It was cold in this place. Yes, it was cold outside, therefore, turn up the heat! Second, aside from my wife and I, there were only 3 people sitting at the bar. So, why did we get buried in the corner? Third, with hardly anyone in the place, why was the music so loud? Fourth, not sure how anyone feels about the smell of bleach and/or cleaning materials while eating, but surely someone did not know the proper mixture ratio, because it made our meals repulsive. Fifth, it's completely understood there will be times the waitstaff wants to flirt with each other, or even the bartender. But, with only 1 table (my wife and I), there's absolutely no reason we should have to flag her down, because she was nowhere to be found - Oh yeah, she was giggling in the corner... While I'm not one to complain, a bit of a pushover at times, I'll say that whoever the franchise owner is of this location is, should go back for training. It's casual dining experience makes it a convenient spot to watch the news or a game or just chill with friends before or your flight. They always have a great local Craft beer on Tap: usually Griffin Claw Norm's IPA. All the other restaurants only have mass produced beer or Bells. Their burgers are tasty for a reasonable price. Wings and quesadilla are also worth trying. Plenty of seating: bar or table. Service is always friendly but a bit slow. read more

Lots of tvs so if you need to kill some time and want to watch sports, this could be the place for you. (The airport intercom system can't be heard inside though, so make sure you know when you need to board your flight!) My veggie burger was adequate. Not amazing. Son was happy with his burger (and his ability to watch the game). Bill for our two meals, one glass of wine and tip = $40. I would have been happier just getting an overpriced Chobani at one of the magazine-stand places and saving the $$. read more

Suspicious of a recook in a minute, I checked and sure enough the kitchen just attempted to remove the onions. One star rating as they obviously have no idea the liability they place themselves in for the person that requested an item not be served due to an allergy. What they did literally could have killed someone. Update. I did talk to the manager about the issue and he admitted the staff never informed him about the recook and did not follow established guidelines and has talked to them. Good on the manager. Food took longer than 10 minutes as I would anticipate shorter wait being an airport restaurant. Champps is in the new DTW Detroit Airport, D or North Terminal, across from gate D-8. It is a sports bar, with 20 flat screen 40 inch plasmas on different stations. There is a long bar seating about 15, a lean up counter behind it for standing, 10 high tables for two behind that, then about a dozen more regular table and chairs. All the furnishinga are in a nice deep walnut color, with nice tiled floors and cream colored accents. It is the perfect place to grab a brew and some grub while waiting for your flight out. They have a limited menu of typical sports bar food: quesadillas, nachos, chicken strips, buffalo wings, salads, and candied flavored mixed drinks to keep the fairer sex happy while the boys hoot it up on sports and tap beer. The good thing is that they have power outlets all over the place, so you can power up your laptop for a long time and get work done while you are chugging down your last expense report entry. read more

The have 20+ dated TV's that are off color complete lines through them non calborated pictures. All of them have at least one or more of the pre mentioned issues. Every single TV here. I don't own a TV however I do know from all the Black Friday advertising I'm seeing that they are a dime a dozen. It's just straight an embarrassment for a what appears to be selling it's self as a sports bar to have such horrendous TVs. When I got to the restaurant, it was self seating. There were only 2 empty tables. I took the table that did not have plates still on it. But, my table was pretty dirty. It took the waitress a little longer than I expected for her to come over. She cleaned the table, handed me a menu and asked if I wanted a drink. I ordered a beer. It came in a nice large glass. If you are interested in a watching sports this location may seem enticing but don't be taken in! Yes, the location has many flat screens but on a Sunday night in November (after the Lions game was over) they were only showing one game. At least three other games were going on. Several customers asked for other games and were denied. Most of the staff acted like they didn't know how to change the stations or said that it was impossible. One customer went to far as to get a laptop out and tell them the stations that the games were on. Of course the staff said there was nothing they could do. Waitstaff - Very rude and slow. One waitress walked around and barked at people asking them if they "looked at it!" referring to the menu. The same waitress would be involved in an interaction and walk off while customers were still taking to her. No one to greet you at the door. No sign saying to sit down. Bonus points - there is one other screen so you can play the Lotto. How exciting. Not worth the trouble. If you are interested in similar food and maybe enjoying better service and more sports then try the TRI Fridays or the Ruby Tuesday at the other end the terminal. read more

However, I want to warn the general public about this really not good establishment in the non-Delta terminal at DTW. It's closer to the D1 side. I ordered chicken fingers and I asked for no fries and the waitress looked at me like I was insane. I opted for seasonal vegetables which came out in a little bowl and was all watery at the bottom with some unidentifiable veggie, that looks like a cross between a water chestnut and a carrot. As a UK resident I am usually overwhelmed by the superior service in the USA. Not in Champps! The service is slow and the waiters are surly. The bar is dim and packed full of multiple TVs but there is little choice if you are stuck in the terminal as I was with a few hours to kill. I sat at the bar but getting served a beer was surprisingly long wait. When my draft Sam Adams eventually arrived ( a favourite that is hard to find and expensive in the UK) it was clearly pulled from dirty lines and tasted disgusting. I was unable to get the waitresses attention again to change it, I eventually gave up, paid the tab and walked out. The packed corridors in the departure lounges were a better option than paying to sit and drink foetid beer in this establishment. I was annoyed enough by my experience to sign up on Yelp to add this review, as there are few other places to eat and drink in the terminal, they really should sort this place out for the sake of the passengers in the terminal with no choice but to have to frequent. In an open market this place would have been shut down years ago. I was too lazy to walk to the other end of the airport and go to TGI Fridays so I popped in here, asking myself... really, how different could it be? They have a ton of TVs around so it fits the sports bar bill. I opted for a location close to an outlet as I had to finish up some work from my business trip. I was greeted quickly and my order was put in. I tried to go a safer healthier route and ordered the Ranch Chicken Wrap. The wrap was literally delivered five minutes later with hot waffle fries, I was shocked. I looked at the wrap though and felt a bit uneasy as the meat looked darker than normal, I told myself it was just the marinade and began eating. I wish I had listened to my initial gut instinct because sure enough, fast forward two hours and I had full on food poisoning. Let me tell you, you have not looked hell in the eyes until you have had food poisoning while traveling six hours home on an airplane (plus layover). I am still traumatized. read more

This is in the old terminal at Metro. Server was attentive and efficient, and was very friendly throughout our meal. Was quick to get drink refills and was helpful when asked questions. My only complaint is the way the seating is set up- there is not a lot of room between tables- lots of 2-tops stacked next to each other in a row. You factor in people with carryons, strollers, etc. it makes for a tight squeeze when busy. It's acceptable airport food with good service. Most airport restaurants can't even say that. read more

This was my first time going to champs and i have to say i enjoyed it very much. I had a lay over and i stopped in champs because i was hungry and it looked like a great place it was really busy. I sat down and was instantly greeted by a server i believe shawn was her name she asked fir my drink order and my food order even recommended a few things she was very knowledgeable about the menu. The food came out it a timely manner i was checked on and made to feel comfortable shawn was one of the best servers i have ever had and chamos has the best airport food cant wait to come back. Yikes- the coffee was bad, the pasta was WAY over-cooked and covered in oily Alfredo sauce, I "upgraded" my meal to get shrimp and there were 5 pieces... This place is rough even for an airport restaurant. My knife had crusty food on it. There were flies (in the airport- how is that even possible). I had a great experience there. Had the chicken and spinach salad and it was both very good and sizeable enough for my appetite. I'm 6'4" and 225 pounds so a small salad will last me about an hour before i am hungry again and this was a pretty substantial salad. Also, I sat at the bar and had Kimberly as the person serving me and would tell you that she is as friendly and cheery as they get in the service industry.
