I had the veggie plate with butter beans (they were a bit sweet and limas, not true butter beans), fried squash (the slice it long ways and hand batter), spinach mashed potatoes, and deviled eggs (delicious, no notes). I tried both hush puppies and a roll. Personally, the hush puppies weren't my favorite, but the roll was buttery goodness:). Most importantly, I asked our server at the beginning if they still had chocolate cobbler and if they were running low to go ahead and bring it out. At first they had plenty, but a few minutes later cobbler was in front of me because she noticed it was running low. So dessert first! Don't mind if I do:) it was warm, gooey, and delicious. Others in my group had the chicken fried steak, and chicken tenders. Everyone was very happy with their meals! Service was great, though the kitchen was a little slow. It took about 30 mins to get our meals. Fun, old timey atmosphere - great service - and delicious home cooking. Will definitely be back.

As soon as you're seated, you'll have a tempting signboard presented at your table with every southern classic you can imagine. With entrees like fried chicken and catfish, endless sides like turnip greens, white beans, and just about anything you can imagine fried, and every kind of southern pie, it's all there. The catfish is magnificent, with that wonderfully gritty cornmeal batter surrounding flaky, tender fish. The complimentary roll is also delicious! And the servers are very nice here! But there are some downsides. The fried okra, my favorite southern side dish, is actually soft and soggy. No self respecting southerner would ever make soggy fried okra. It's about the worst I ever had. And the onion rings, which are hard to mess up, were burnt black and lacked flavor. They were inedible. The cashier is rude and doesn't have time for "thank you" or small talk or a smile or even giving you your receipt when nobody else is in line to pay their bill. That's just how it is. If you want good catfish, Sling Shot Charlie's will come through. But if you want a southern culinary experience that's enjoyable, there are much better places to have it!

The tacos were delicious but the name is misleading. My husband thought it would come drizzled in some kind of spicy sauce given the name, but it was just chicken, cheese and onions. It was still really tasty though. I had the rice and while it was well seasoned, it lacked something else. I think a creamy sauce would knock this dish out of the world. If I ever order it again, I'll be sure to request a cream based sauce, or order a side of sour cream. The service was fast but we also came during a time where they didn't have crowd. If you're dining in, your order will come with a bottle of salsa verde and a bottle of spicy red salsa. Also, the music was great at the time we went, they were playing bachata and it took everything in me not to get up and dance. I'd recommend this place and plan to return. Oakland needs more variety like this little gem.

The mustard potato salad was the best that I've ever tasted. The Parsonage Club Sandwich was fantastic, with its flavorful aioli! They had a nice Nora Jones soundtrack playing. The inside decor was very eclectic with art, paper stars hanging from the ceiling, and mix-matched furniture. It felt very fun. We chose to sit in a booth by the window around 1:00. There was only one other table of patrons when we arrived. It was very cold inside, but it looked clean. I ordered a ham sandwich with chips. My mom ordered a pick two with half BLT and a half cup of chicken and wild rice soup. The wait was slow for some cold sandwiches and premade soup. My sandwich was good but it just tasted like regular deli meat on white sandwich bread. The chips came from a basket with two different types of sun chips, which were not my favorite. My mom's soup did not have any chicken or meat in it, just the broth and lots of beans. It was also very spicy, which unfortunately didn't work with her dietary restriction. She wasn't able to eat much of it. We both got drinks, as well, but never refills. Our waitress didn't come back to check on us. Together the bill was in the mid $30s + tax and a tip. It just felt overpriced for mediocre food and service. Cute place, but I probably won't go back.
