Everybody always says Hansen's is the best, but I'm sorry... they just can't compete with Chance in Hell, no matter what anyone says. Handcrafted syrups, quality ingredients, and that ice... listen. If you're really from New Orleans, you KNOW the difference between a snoball and a snow cone. That ice is so fine, so soft, it literally melts in your mouth. You really be like, "What ICE?!" It's up there, for real. And the space? Baby... it's a whole experience. Perfectly curated to their brand. Very show-stopping, very show girl, all the drama in the best way. It's beautiful, it's fun, it's a vibe. It is more on the pricier side. With the quality of the Snoball. The difference is in the details. I am soooo behind on this one but I need to write them a proper review! I know this isn't the original snowball place that most people may recommend but it was worth the visit ! I am used to snowballs being somewhat fine chunks of ice that have a ton of syrup glazed over it and maybe some bites have too much syrup or not enough syrup. And sometimes if I'm in the mood might have some marshmallows so this might give you an idea of where I'm from but the snowballs a chance in hell snowballs were on a whole different level. The ice is so fine the moment it touches your tongue it literally just melts. I opted for the Ube flavor in typically because of the syrup, I usually get more thirsty after I'm done eating snowballs, but with this one, it was so refreshing. I can only imagine the sensation if I were eating this on a hot summer day. They had some unique flavors and my husband my mother-in-law and I all got different flavors that we tried each other others and I can't say anything wrong about any of them. They were well balanced somehow the savory flavors worked as a dessert and I can't wait till the next time I can go back. Something I learned on this trip is that snowballs here are available from Mardi Gras until around Halloween so just something for you to note if you are traveling, but I was told that they do pop-ups here and there a little outside of the season. New Orleans style snoballs were completely new to me, so I did my homework to find one of the best spots that was still open late in the season. Most places shut down after October, so we were lucky to catch Chance in Hell on their very last day before closing for the year. It did not disappoint. I ordered the apple pie ice, which came loaded with cream, real apple pieces, and warm baking spices throughout. It was nothing short of revolutionary. I have tried shaved ice in many forms including Korean bingsu in Seoul, powdery shaved ice in Tokyo, and several renditions in Baltimore and Philadelphia. This New Orleans style snoball honestly takes the cake. The consistency is unreal. Velvety and smooth with no crunch at all. It practically melts the moment it hits your mouth. When you pair that texture with the creative flavor combinations that Chance in Hell is known for, it becomes a perfect match made in Heaven or Hell in their playful theme. The shop itself is also a total vibe with its retro carnival themed red and white interior and exterior which made it a fun place to enjoy our icy creations. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful and clearly take pride in what they do. We were skeptical, but these were so good that we doubled back for round 2 before leaving New Orleans! First of all, the shop is soooo cute! The staff was incredibly sweet, and I love that the business supports various causes. They also are dog friendly I chose the Cinnamon Toast Crunch snowball and ya'll....YA'LL. I can't even explain it. Just go get it. Smooth, creamy, slightly crunchy texture. Taste was out of this world. We got a small the first time and then the large the next time. I finally made it to the brick and mortar store. I've done the house snowballs about 3 to 5 times. It was always hard to catch them because these girls also have other jobs. Glad to see them successful in a business with a brick and mortar shop. As usual, they had a great selection of flavors that are freshly made. The line was out the door as usual but only 7-8 people total. I've seen people wait with 25 people. It's not for me, but I'll wait with 10 to 12 people. I got the sour grape. They also had lemon with basil, root beer, strawberry cream, and pineapple oil, and cream de minthe. This is always a great treat on a warm summer day and sometimes even when it's raining. They also have popcorn, meat pies(they were sold out today), and deviled eggs, which I highly recommend. Check out the menu pictures you can also get ice for your dogs. Everything is all NATCH. And some vegan options. This is definitely a bucket list if you're in the area. The place has a great ambience has a lot of good art. They got T-shirts for sale and stickers. I think the business is located at the owner's house so street parking is limited. It may be best to try and find parking a little ways away and walk to the spot. When you get in line, they have cute little umbrellas you can use since it's so hot outside. My friend and I took so many pictures with them The owners were so lovely and their dogs were so cute! I thought the snowballs were lovely. You can get condensed milk added on top for free (vegan is $1) so of course I did that. I think that pistachio flavor is such a gem. If you're looking for something out of the ordinary flavors, I really do think that's the way to go. If I had a complaint, it's just that it was too big, haha.
