My parents are avid Cache Creek visitors and they always enjoy dining and using their points here. Since COVID and even prior they are always busy and usually require a reservation or a long wait for dinner. We made a reservation earlier on in the day for 3. My parents enjoy their steamed sea bass or whatever fish they have available. I like their eggplant and I also got some dim sum. It's like every other Asian restaurant but they have a variety of different Asian cuisine here-- chinese, korean, Filipino, Japanese, you name it. They also have a bar and I ordered a cocktail, I don't remember what it was called but it definitely was strong and sometimes they get backed up and I got my appetizers prior to my cocktail. Today is the day, I had to do it. This is my second time ever dining at Cache Creek Casino Resort. The last time I was here, I noticed how the decor here is pleasant. And look at what I have here, a Cantonese Roast Duck. Roasted in the Chef's special blend of spices. I had Peking Duck more than a few times. I'm very familiar with this cuisine. According to the Michelin Guide, both Peking Duck and Cantonese Duck are cooked in different types of ovens and vary in how they are processed, sliced, and consumed. In recent times, hybrids of the two have begun showing up on the market, with Peking Duck becoming more similar in style to Cantonese Duck. They say that the Peking Duck is more subtle in flavor, to Cantonese Duck. And I've had it both with, Bao Buns and Chun Bing or Crêpe. I can say that the Bao Buns are as relevant as the Crêpe. But to be honest, I don't see that much difference between a Peking Duck and Cantonese Duck. Some parts of the Western world might want to make it look like there is, but there isn't. A lot of times, I liked the Cantonese Duck more for its deep and complex flavor profile. Yeah, this isn't an Erewhon Strawberry Skin Glaze Smoothie. I liked how the Five Spice permeated through the Duck. It wasn't gamy at all. It was so succulent. And what I really liked was I didn't need to ask for anything extra, they just know everything I needed. I was thinking this was going to be like a 4.2 stars, but I give this 4.3 stars. read more

The food is consistently good but the service was lacking this last visit. We were told at 6 pm that there was no availability to be seated until 10 pm. It was Sunday evening so we did not expect it to be as busy. We stood there waiting for an hour to sit at the bar which is first come, first serve. Meanwhile, we saw several empty tables that sat empty for over an hour. Understaffing the issue? Seems to be as the kitchen was slammed and our Chang Shou rice came out after we had finished our other dishes. There was a sign: no take out but we watched as many customers carried their orders out. If we would have known, we could have ordered and taken the food back to our room. Finally seated at the bar as we had to wait for 2 seats to open up. The bar only had 5 chairs but had the space for at least 4 more. We were told that chairs had been broken but never replaced. Poor management! We are frequent customers. I will always make reservations no matter which day or time. Hopefully the poor service this last visit was just a one time glitch and not indicative of ongoing management issues. read more

Omgoodness the food here is amazing. I eat her almost every time I go to cache creek. Everything here is good, from the honey walnut prawns to the rice, beef and broccoli. We went here to celebrate my wife birthday. Overall the experience was really nice, but pretty packed during the night. It is pretty expensive, however, we had a lot of food vouchers $60 dollars worth to pay for our 4 dishes. 1. Salt and Pepper Pork chop 2. Eggplant 3. Honey pork chop 4. The ho and sour soup was very tasty but really spicy... so much so that it brought tears to my eyes. We also the Budda dish, Mongolian Beef ,Hong Kong chow mein and rice Not realizing that rice came with the order. Author, the Server at the bar table was no where professional at all. He must not have a great day at work perhaps? Bar was first come first serve and we waited for our turn. Instead of waiting longer, we took advantage of any available space, which was the one bar stool. I have my sister sat down, while I remain standing. Author did not greeted us, nor cleaned our area. We did not get a menu, yet after about 20mins later, he asked us what we wanted to order. I told him what I would like, but his response was "You can't be serve, you are standing." and had asked me to step away and that he can only serve my sister. I walked away, so that he can just serve my sister. My sister continued her order -'he said "what is the number on the menu?" So we asked him for the menu and let him know what we would like to get. When she ordered food to eat as well as food "to-go" while sitting at the bar table, Author told her she can not order food to-go. However, this was not an issue in the past. The bar in general looks like they have emptied out bar stools, not sure the reasoning behind this.? Maybe short on staff and less people they have to serve? Lastly, I did spoke to a very nice professional manager, Torrence this evening and asked for clearifications... He was definitely helpful. I have been coming here for years with my mom and sister during special occasions. This restaurant is located inside the Casino by the new hotel section. This place is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants I always come out satisfied, the food to me taste excellent never disappointing, yes it is pricey but well worth (plus it helps when you have food vouchers lol) All the dishes are delicious never oily or over seasoned. I basically tried 90 percent of all the dishes in the menu so everything is good. There was a particular dish they had that was so good but no longer on the menu :o(. The food comes out quick and the service staff are always nice and friendly. I suggest making a reservation ahead of time because it does get packed quickly and sometimes they have to turn customers away because they can't accommodate everyone. read more

Been going here for years and today I have to face with a stubborn lady that work in the front. Her name is Savana who make my experience went from 10 to 0. As a jade member I never expect this treatment at all. Our family party of 7 people can't seat together for some reason not sure why. Her bullshit reason doesn't make any sense and I have been watching and asking people did any of them make reservation and how come they can get a table of 8 people. The answer is No!! Hey, it's dim sum time, as I have mentioned in my review of Cache Creek Casino Resort. It's terrible that I don't even go for dim sum at Peony Restaurant in Oakland Chinatown, East Ocean Restaurant in Alameda and/or Hong Kong East Ocean Seafood in Emeryville during the weekends. All these three restaurants are close to my home. I came all this way from the Bay Area to Brooks, CA to dine on dim sum. I ordered the usual - siu mai, har gow and vegetarian egg rolls. I decided to forego the potstickers. I did not see sesame balls or mango pudding on the menu. However, I went for the salted fish and chicken fried rice (hom yee gai lop chow fon), a dish that I haven't had in over a year. It was edible and quite delicious with a subtle hint of ginger. Bad me that I forgot to ask for a pot of hot tea to wash the food down. Then my eyes got bigger than my stomach. I had leftovers to take home for dinner. Service was quick and there was no line at this place. Hostess greeted me, escorted me to a booth and handed me the menu. Waitress was pleasant and gave me time to peruse the menu. Finally, the dim sum was decent for a place that is way out in the boonies. I know one thing. 3 1/2 why would I expect it to be up to par. Ordered the work won ton soup and some dim sum the dim sum was tasty but the soup was tasteless. There was a red garlic hot sauce that made it palatable. There wine list was not up to date. I asked for a taste of two I was thinking about. One smelled like it had been exposed too much air. The other was on its way south I asked for a bottle of white and he said he was out. And then one he has but then no it was only in red. The only saving grace was when I complained that the dinner was mediocre and he offered ice cream or banana cream pie. He brought us Mango ice cream which was way more than I expected! A HUGE scoop of mango ice cream with whipping cream and fried bananas. Yum! The waiter brought the check while we were still enjoying the ice cream and then proceeded to ask us if we wanted to add the tip at least 10 times. read more

I travel through a few times a year and love stopping at cache creek for a few hours, but this trip was made even better because of her impeccable service. She smiled, made great suggestions, was patient with my questions, brought out my soup and husband's appetizer before our main course. All our needs met before asking and with a friendly smile and grace. I don't like to leave negative reviews, but the difference stands out. My Mom was so excited to bring me here to try the Chinese food. What a let down. The Roasted Duck Spring Rolls were horrible. They had a weird taste to them. My mom didnt like it either. Choosing not to continue eating hers all together. Ordered the Beef Chow Fun, minus the bean sprouts and added chinese broccoli. This dish we could actually bare to eat. But felt it was bland and lacked any kind of chinese flavoring. My mom had to ask for some oyster sauce on the side, to give the chow fun some kind of taste. Getting a look at a kitchen load of cooks trying to stay ahead of the curve is always a pleasure for me. However, there is no kitchen counter seating. Take a look as you pass by while walking to your table. The decor is phenomenal. The menu includes some daily specials. Chang Shou reminds me of my favorite Chinese restaurant in the South Bay. The decor is really pretty and the wait time is slim to none. It's a little funky being that this place is in a casino and honestly, I hate casinos, but lol, I guess I was feeling lucky that evening (I won $800 lol). You can watch the chefs cook up your food! The rundown: - Pork Congee: Yum! I've never had congee before but this was really good. The portion was enough to feed everyone and for $8, that was honestly a steal. - Mongolian Beef: I'm not a big fan of Mongolian Beef only because the restaurants put so much vegetables vs the beef itself BUT Chang Shou didn't. If anything it was sooo much food. The beef was soft and tender. - Fried Shrimp: I LOVE THIS! I mean, I love shrimp in general but this was awesome. The shrimp was certainly crispy (but not burned!) You can also dip it in spicy sauce and it makes it 10x better. - House Fried Rice: Average fried rice but boy were the portions huge. Today while playing in the Cache Creek Casino I hit a progressive for just over $5k. Immediately after I was paid I was approached by a hotel host that offered to comp my dinner so I went to Chang Shou and this time I got the New York Steak with Black Bean Sauce. The steak with cut in thick strips and was cooked perfectly and the black bean sauce was just as I like it. Our seating was quick and our waiter was right there to ask for our drink order. He brought the drinks and took our food order and we waited about 15 minutes for our food to arrive. The fried rice was left on the order up counter and we had to ask another waitress because our waiter was missing. He was missing the entire time, we had to ask another waitress to refill our drinks. Then after receiving the refilled drinks our original waiter shows up and we asked for two to go boxes and the check. Good food lousy service! Considering it's inside the casino... not bad. This time around my parents and I ordered, shu mai, beef chow fun, honey walnut prawns. All were good except the honey walnut prawns, the sauce was a bit much, too saucy that it actually made the shrimp soggy while we were eating it. I didn't like that, the shrimp was reasonable nothing fancy, I've had better elsewhere. Both the shu mai and beef chow fun were really good, both really flavorful. Our waitress was great, forgot her name. She's an absolute doll, stopped by our table often, refilled drinks without being asked and was overall super pleasant. When we were waiting for our entrees one day, we saw Servers bringing out beautifully cooked and prepared from the Chefs of large platters of Fish, Roast Duck, Chinese Chicken Salad and other specialty entrees. Oscar is an Excellent, Professional, Knowledgeable and Polite Server to us. All the Workers are Extremely Busy Professionally working hard and yet they're patient and polite with customers too. A gentleman said, "This is the Best Chinese Food we've ever eaten!!" "Everything was Delicious!!!" The ambiance and decor is nicely decorated and soothing music playing. We didn't know there's more convenient dining tables, booths and rooms for customers further inside the restaurant. There's large and small Private Banquet Rooms too. Cache Creek, you surprise me, seriously! Maybe my reviews may be slightly lower had I not been rolling with high rollers, but Chang Shou is a solid spot for Chinese eats in the middle of nowhere! Can it compete with Bay Area Chinese restaurants, probably not, but it's way better than some Chinese spots I've been to and better than Sino, and the like. Pluses: Seafood chow fun, minced chicken lettuce cups, pan fried noodles, walnut prawns. Ok: Chicken Congee Pass: Haw Gaw & duck egg rolls. Potstickers. The portions were a good size, with the exception of the duck egg rolls and haw gaw (about one piece per person). Potstickers were average at best. I think the dim sums didn't have as much flavor and weren't that spectacular. Seafood chow fun had lots of shrimp, scallop and squid and veggies with a nice light gravy. The pan fried noodle was nicely crisp and had the same light sauce, accompanied by lots of fresh veggies and bbq pork and chicken. Minced chicken lettuce cups you can never go wrong with! The walnut prawns could have been a little more crispy as they had a little more sauce or thicker sauce then they usually do, but they were satisfying and plentiful. Chicken congee was standard, nice and light. I always like my jook thicker, but I never see restaurants that make it that thick. I also like how they gave us fried garlic pieces and chili sauce to add as we'd like. Decor was nice, think a teeny bit like PF Changs, but not really tacky. Service was good too. If you're craving Chinese food while at Cache Creek I'd suggest Chang Shou. And why yes, there are Chinese people working here! =) 3.5 rounded up. read more
