Siu Mai: This was classic & well-executed, and there was a strong mushroom taste which I loved. Shrimp Dumplings: These were also classic, flavorful, and fresh. Jelly Fish & Sliced Beef Tendon: I loved the texture and spiciness of the general dish, and they were seasoned well. Beef Noodle Rolls: These were okay in my opinion, but silky and tender. Pan-Fried Turnip Cake: I loved the crisp outside, and it was soft on the inside. It did not feel too heavy and better than other places I've tried. Green Beans: These were slightly oily, but the portion size was generous for the price. We had a craving for dim sum Saturday morning and took a drive to Well Season located in the sleepy, college town of Davis. For what we expected to be dim sum "rush hour" at 11am, there was ample parking in a dedicated lot, and our family of 4 was seated immediately. Cool! Love Well Season for their large selection of entrees and dumplings. We are always greeted once we come in and have Never been disappointed by their quick and friendly service. This restaurant does get pretty crowded for lunch and dinner so it can become a bit noisy, but it's a very family friendly place with lots of seating for large parties. It's the only dim sum in Davis. It's way better at being a dimsum store than other restaurants bring what they advertise, say a poke place or a Korean place or a McDonald's. My sister and I were craving dim sum so here we are. We ordered shrimp dumplings, chicken feet, seafood scallop dumplings, steamed custard buns, and green tea sesame balls. The shrimp dumplings and the green tea sesame balls were the highlight of our meal. I love the texture and the filling of the green sesame balls. Overall, the food here is pretty consistent. There is also a lot of booth and table seating available inside. Parking here also is never an issue. So you guys may be wondering if the food here is consistent, seating is always available, and parking is never a problem, then why only a 3. The reason why I rated this place a 3 is the service... The staff is nice however, they rarely came by to take away our finished dishes or rarely refilled our water. I would understand if they were busy however, there were only 2 other people eating in the restaurant than us... Overall, this is a place that my family and I eat at every once in a while. Went in with low expectations because of Davis food in general, came out pleasantly surprised. My boyfriend and I came by during what we thought would be the most dead hours...on a weekday at about 3PM. Low and behold, we were seated immediately and tended to throughout the meal. What we got: garlic spare ribs (10/5) -- a must order if you like the taste of fried chicken and garlic but with the meaty texture of pork! I was a bit skeptical since many places do not cook their spare ribs long enough and the result is this impossibly tough pork. However, this place fried the spare ribs perfectly so there was a crunchy exterior and juicy inside. They were surprisingly not very greasy either beef chow fun, dry style (5/5) -- my boyfriend can't stand bean sprouts and I had forgotten to ask for no bean sprouts even though they add to beef chow fun. It arrived at our table and I instantly smelled the wok hay. Fun was springy and well separated, onion still had bite to them, and the flavor was smoky, savory delight. It was so good that my boyfriend did not mind the bean sprouts siu mai (3/5) -- large and flavorful, but the texture was off. I expected texture from shiitake, shrimp, and pork and got only springiness reminiscent of a fishcake. I would not order this again har gow (4/5) -- solid although the skin was a bit too thick so it sloughed off after the first bite coconut bean jelly (4/5) -- it is basically coconut jello with some mung bean embedded throughout except the mung bean is still crunchy ??? it confused me a lot but the flavor is very good if you like coconut. My boyfriend did not like it because it is not sweet enough for him to think of it as a dessert seafood dumpling (4/5) -- We both enjoyed the flavor of this dumpling primarily due to the cilantro and plump texture char siu bao, baked (2/5) -- definitely the worst thing we ordered. It was also very open so you can see all 4 corners of the restaurant from anywhere you sit. Service: It took was too long to get a servers attention after you order food. I was trying to flag a server for 3 minutes before anyone noticed. Keep in mind the layout of the building and the fact that it was relatively empty . Food also took quite awhile. Food: Terrible. We got chicken feet, beef intestine, shrimp dumpling, garlic pork short rib, turnip cake, and noodle. The chicken feet were not that good. The flavor was dull and the chicken was soggy. The flavors were reminiscent of fungi that you would do in a biology lab. This was the second time in my life I spit a piece of food out from disgust. A friend recommended we try this dim sum restaurant as it's nearby and we don't have to drive all the way to the Bay Area. The restaurant was previously another restaurant, I think, an Applebees, years ago. There's plenty of parking. When we came it was after the lunch rush. It's Mothers Day. Please don't get me wrong, I'm all about giving Grace and showing a great amount of patience. When you're a table of 6 and you arrive just after opening and there is not very many parties/people seated and wait 20 minutes to flag someone down to give your order, it's disappointing. Especially for a place you frequent. It's my daughter's FIRST Mother's Day and she chose dim sum. We ordered shu mai, Chinese broccoli, chicken feet, duck, eggplant w/fillet fish, and a few other items. The point is, the food was good if it ever came out. Some items came others were forgotten or came out wrong. When we asked for correction, 20 minutes later we were told "We are cancelling your order because we are overwhelmed". OVERWHELMED?? I've never been told that at a long standing restaurant in all my life. Needless to say, the dim sum finally came when we were leaving...ended up taking it to go. The best Chinese food in Davis!! You know it's an authentic Chinese restaurant when there is salted fish on the menu. Salted fish with chicken fried rice is one of my favorite dishes so I couldn't resist it. I also ordered their salted fish eggplant with chicken clay pot. Both dishes were excellent with plenty of "wok hei" or that "seasoned flavor". In addition to those two dishes, I also ordered a chicken chow fun with gravy, golden chives yee fu noodles, west lake beef soup, beef tendon with jelly fish and some dim sim: egg tarts, chicken feet, pork sui mai, and lotus wrapped sticky rice. It was easy to find a dish that everyone wanted with the extensive menu and selection here. It was decent if you're craving some dim sum. Some items may be better, some may be worse. They have a big menu. Unfortunately no rice noodle rolls after lunch hours. :( Deep fried pork dumplings were great, very chewy and good flavor, but super super greasy. One of the dumplings was oozing in oil nonstop lol. Steamed custard buns were good, nice and fluffy. Tasty filling. Deep fried stuffed taro puffs were not good, first time it came around the middle was sour tasting (going bad). They fired up a new batch which tasted more normal, (good creamy taro filling), but the middle was still cold. Idk how much I'd trust these. Pan fried chive pork dumplings were good, though the filling was a little tough. Shrimp dumpling was pretty mediocre, a bit bland. Pan fried turnip cake was also pretty bland and paste-y. Satay seafood roll was confusing, it tasted like bland veggie rolls with no wood ear mushroom (typically). Shrimp and scramble egg chow fun was not too bad, but had no other ingredients in it while being satay style. The shrimp were quite delicious and tender though, very large. I do not like to give bad reviews but I have to say, this place is not worth that many stars as posted on yelp. Definitely do not recommend this place. We decided to go here since we were hungry on saturday around 4pm on our way to Sacramento. We were the only one here when we arrived. Service was not great but we usually expect this at asian restuarants but being the only one here at the time before 2 other groups came in 10-15 minutes after us, you would think they would be more attentive instead of just sitting and being on their phones. That shoukd have been a red flag for us already. The other red flag was the chili sauce. I never seen it where it was almost black. It's like it was left out for months. I checked other tables and the chili was the same. Not a fan of that chili flavor at all. I ordered our usual dim sum dishes when we go to any dim sum places. Disappointed they didn't have the rice wraps but that might be a good thing since it saved us money and we didn't waste more food. The deep-fried shrimp ball was burnt and not crispy. Definitely avoid it. the chicken feet had no flavor. Seemed like they were lacking a lot of the ingredients like the oyster sauce with the bean sauce. It was bland that we only ate 2 pieces. I usually order 2 plates of chicken feet at most dim sum places. this was the second worst chicken feet I have tried. The xialongbao dumplings (not pictured) were awful. There were no broth and the meat was not good. I made a mistake by ordering 3 plates thinking no restaurant can mess that up ‍. We only ate 3 pieces out of the 12. The chau zhou style dumpling had no flavor. I only tasted the peanuts. The only thing that was good were the seafood scallop dumpling and the deep fried seafood roll. The beef stomach wasn't bad but nothing to rave about. I didn't comment on the shumai and the har gow since people's preference on these 2 dishes vary. Some like the har gow flower thin while some like them thick. These were more on the thicker side. Trying to save others from having a bad dim sum and food experience especially if it's their first time trying dim sum. I used to be a frequent visitor of the City of Davis, as my brother went to the UC there. Back then, it was a sleepy cow town. The only Chinese restaurant was run by a guy named Joe and the chef was actually an UC employee. Fast forward to today, the city has transformed itself into a little big city with many Chinese food options. Well Season is a full-service dim sum restaurant conveniently located near the Hwy 80 Richards Blvd exit. My family and I came here for dim sum on 05/13/2023. It was pretty busy when we walked in just after 12:30pm. We were immediately seated by the staff. The interior was bright and clean. Several TVs were showing different food programs. There was a live fish tank near the back of the restaurant. Tea was brought to us quickly. There was no cart service. Ordering was done by marking items on a laminated menu. The selection was pretty vast. We ended up getting a dozen items or so. The food came out pretty quick. Judging from shapes of the dim sum, it appeared these were made in-house and not purchased from a third-party factory. Overall, the quality and taste were decent. It reminded me of dim sum in SF Chinatown in the 80s. The only thing I didn't like was some of items were lukewarm instead of hot. Service we received was good. The staff was friendly and refilled our tea a couple of times. As long as you don't expect a fancy dim sum experience here, this place will do, especially if you don't want to drive to Sacramento or Elk Grove. We will return. 3.5 stars rounding up to 4. We came here the day after New years, and it's located behind a hotel hidden behind different buildings. Once we arrived, parking was very easy to find, and we arrived around 11 AM. There weren't a lot of people inside and we were a large party of about 12. We sat down, and they provided a menu. We put how many of each we wanted with a marker. It was different because there were no carts walking around. You ordered everything and they brought it to you, which was pretty nice. The DIM SUM was BOMB!! All the dumplings and everything we got were delicious. I was kinda glad there weren't a lot of people because we really enjoyed being taken care of. There are quite a number of things that I can't eat, such as shrimp and pork, but even so, there was a wide variety of items that sounded delicious. So many items, so little stomach. A decision was aided by photos of many of the entrees on the menu. I dined with a friend, so we split two entrees. The portion sizes were large, and the food was delicious. This is the Well Season location in Davis. I finally, got my Peking Duck today at Noon. Along with some of my favorite Dim Sum, Seafood Scallop Dumplings and Egg Custard Tart. Yum. This one, comes with the Bao Buns. I made sure this is a real Peking Duck, and not just a regular Roast Duck. It was so succulent, juicy, and flavorful. The Duck Skin was so crunchy. The contrast, texture, and combination in flavors is heavenly. It was out of this world. I had a few versions of this dish already, and this one is one of the best I ever had. The Seafood Scallop Dumplings were light and chewy, but not too chewy. The Egg Custard Tart is very nostalgic to me, and they were buttery and freshly baked, classic. I'm only here today. Pretty decent spot for Dim Sum and Chinese food! Had a lot of good options and was one of the only places I've seen with my favorite Westlake Beef Soup. I grew up in SoCal eating dim sum with my family every Sunday and missed it since moving to Davis. I've tried a couple other things places in Sac/Davis but like Well Season the most out of all of them. I've had their salt and pepper tofu and westlake beef soup to go and the portions are great, usually lasts me at least 2 meals. Service is also good too, maybe a bit slow with drink refills on busy days but overall they're pretty nice and the wait for food isn't long. Our go to dim sum place locally. It's very nice to have one of these place locally in town now when you're craving something like this it's just a little drive away. They don't do the walk by carts like they used to when they first open back in the day but this way it keeps everything fresher for you. They give you a menu with photos of everything, then you mark down what you want to order and they place the order with the kitchen so it's made to order. We have been here for different times for brunch and also ordered out for dinner and eaten off of both menus. Off the dim sum menu our go to items are always the Sui mai (steamed pork dumpling), wrapped sticky rice (has meat inside), Golden Crispy Shrimp Noodle Roll is another go to but it has to be eaten fresh. The Shanghai soup dumplings is another delicious got have to be eaten fresh kind of dish, it has a little Burst of soup inside so be cautious, It might be a little hot. And egg tarts for dessert :) Off the dinner menu we absolutely love the salted yolk, pumpkin, and shrimp dish (hubby says it a true hidden treasure off this menu). My family and I like to order the hargaw, sio mai, taro puffs, chicken and salted fish fried rice, beef chow fun, chicken feet, lotus sticky rice, shrimp rolls, lotus sticky rice. We've also had the chicken wings, pan fried buns, steamed bbq pork buns, house chow mein, fried turnip cake, and house fried rice. Our favorites are the siomai, chicken and salted fish fried rice, and beef chow fun. Some critiques include the servers being slow or cold, and some food items - the fried turnip cake tasted spoiled, taro puffs were cold, hargaw was over cooked with the soggy wrapper coming off the shrimp filling. No other place in Davis has an extensive offering like Well Season. They even have my favorite braised honeycomb tripe!! Automatic win right there. I went last night with my partner and tried 2 new things from the menu: the Peking Duck and the Shrimp & Scrambled Egg Chow Fun. The noodles were very tasty! We didn't expect the sauce to be so gravy-like, but the shrimps were nice and juicy and the flavor was great. The Peking duck was a bit dry, but that crispy skin on top was delicious. The restaurant was clean and the food was reasonably priced. The reason it doesn't get five stars is that the food was good but not great. We came specifically for the dim sum. It was okay. The pineapple bun had the most flavor and was best liked by most of the table. BBQ pork buns were good and the potstickers were large and in charge, but I was missing the gyoza sauce. The only sauces we had were hot chili paste and soy sauce. We also ordered the match sesame balls. Those were tasty. The turnip cake was bland and oily. Same for the dumplings. The preserved egg and pork congee hit the spot, though. Dim sum is better than before. The book tripe today was tasty and al dente. Taro puff is not usually a favorite of mine but the ones today were light and without a greasy, deep fried mouth feel. Most everything is cooked on order although they do make some of the more popular items ahead of team and keep them in a warmer. read more

These things were sweaty, limp, and reeking of stale oil that probably hasn't been changed since the Bush administration. Biting into one was like chewing on a wet napkin dipped in axle grease. No crisp. No bite. Just soggy glue and a sad, grey filling that tasted like freezer burn and lies. And the aftermath? A thick film coated my mouth and teeth so thoroughly I felt like I needed a pressure washer. I could still taste the chemical slick hours later. I brushed. I rinsed. Good food, quick service, and nice variety of dim sum items. I was only able to get a photo of the meal after we were done. We just dove right in! Recommend getting the spicy cucumber, siu mai, lotus leaf sticky rice, and chive dumplings. Nothing crazy. Trying to get my parents hooked.
