Met some friends at Chankaska this afternoon, what a wonderful time we had on the patio. The patio is large with seating in the sun or shade. There was absolutely lovely live music - acoustic 60s and 70s - created the perfect relaxing vibe for a warm spring day. I feel like they have upgraded their food items since my last visit. We enjoyed a charcuterie board and a meat lovers pizza. Both were delicious. We tasted a couple different wines, my favorite was creekside white. Looking forward to returning. read more

I have been supporting this winery for years during Covid through construction on the highway. But today, I was treated in a worst way ever. I wonder it was partially because I am Asian and they couldn't understand me well enough or what, I asked couple of questions about an event that was happening at the winery but we arrived too late to participate so I said ok and walked away and sat down with my family and ordered food. But when my friend tried to order a bottle little later, they refused her another glass because of me. I was at the end of the venue and not really making any noises because I was just talking to my family. When my friend questioned about how we have been quiet at the corner, they ended up giving her the extra glass anyway. So I wonder was it really me being the problem for your place or your employee being uncomfortable talking to a person with an accent. I have been living in southern Minnesota for about a decade and never felt this way before. I am very disappointed in the way I was treated today, if this is going to be the new standard I will never go back there, and I will suggest to all my friends and family never to go to this place of business, or even for events that are held at establishment. read more

What a beautiful winery and distillery! The grounds are absolutely beautiful and well kept, amazing patios, delicious foods, the drinks go down way to easy! Food I recommend the steak tacos and pizzas! For drinks, they are all good, I've enjoyed about every cocktail on the menu and have had few wines all which were good with distinct flavors. There was live music in the patio and in the event center. Only thing I would change was the seating arrangement for the Elton John tribute, rows of chairs was difficult to hart in and out of and forced you to sit, and add a space for dancing. Beautiful space to enjoy a glass of wine amd a little food. It is an easy hour-ish drive from the city nestled in by the Minnesota River. Plenty of space inside or outside to sit (although, best to make a reservation). Bonfire pit and heat lamps going for the cooler days. Fairly long list of wines, all made on-site. If wine isn't your thing, they do have a spirits room with a decent cocktail list as well. Short food list of appetizers and pizza (last time in, only pizza was available), but compliments the beverages. Can grab a bottle to take home, amongst some other fun wine-based decor. read more

My husband and I used to visit Chankaska often when we lived here. We are back visiting for a week and decided to stop by and do a wine tasting. We were both disappointed in the customer service. Definitely not up to the standard we were used to. The young woman behind the bar seemed unfriendly and annoyed that we were there. No smile, no greeting, no explanation of the wines (we haven't been here in a few years - a refresher would have been nice), and just got the impression she was not happy to be at her job. This is one of my favorite places to stop while in Mankato! If you visit during happy hour, it tends to be very busy and tough to find a table for a group. We typically stand up by the tasting bar. They have some other spaces also to sit, but we like it upstairs. When the weather is nice, they also have an outdoor patio. The food is tasty and the cheese trays and wood fired pizzas are always perfect for sharing. Make sure you don't arrive super hungry, because it has taken up to 40 minutes for us to get our food. (2 pizzas and a cheese tray). No one wants anyone hangry in their group. Wine! Yes... they have some really great wines and yes... you can purchase there or also at liquor stores around MN. I've even purchased at Total Wines when in the Minneapolis area. The Rose of Zin used to be my favorite... but I've moved onto Kasota Rose. A nice balance of fruity flavor and not overly dry. Of course, I love trying the other wines too! They have some solid full body reds and also dessert wines. Couer de Colline (port style) is our anniversary treat! It's available in 375ml and 750ml... it is spendier, but worth it! Try a flight and they will give you tokens... each sample = 1 token. A beautiful winery, inside & out. I been to Chankaska twice, once for a band in the cellar, and once to sit out on the deck & enjoy a wine tasting. When we decided to do the wine tasting, it was $7 for 5 choices, or $11 for 5 choices plus the souvenir wine glass to take home. We sat out on the deck on a beautiful summer evening and enjoyed our wine along side their charcuterie board of sausage, cheese & more! Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. When I visited for the band in the cellar, my friends and I each ordered one of their spectacular pizzas. I will be coming back for more! read more

Chankaska has absolutely gorgeous grounds, and plenty of space for indoor and outdoor seating. You do need to make a reservation to get a table at this winery and each reservation begins with a 2 hour time limit unless requested. To begin they have a wide variety of wines to choose from and has some spirits as well. I personally believe the best value here is to order a bottle, or one of their wine flights. Their food menu is limited to flatbread and appetizers but the flavor will not disappoint. While the food is delicious I do feel they're a bit over priced for the amount you get. We opted for the stuffed mushrooms ($12) and charcuterie board ($16). The stuffed mushrooms were to die for, but slightly disappointed that we only received 4 of them for the price, considering they are only the size of a half dollar. The charcuterie board had a small variety of meats and cheeses, about 4 kinds of each. Once again the portion sizing wasn't amazing. If you are looking to share apps with more than one other person you will need to order multiples. Finally critique is the service/layout. During the summer people love to be outside. They have a small deck up top and a larger patio down the steps. It's wonderful that they have such a spacious area to sit but you are expected to order and pick up your drinks and food from the bar and bring it to your table. It can be a bit of a hassle to have to carrier wine glasses, food, and bottles from the second floor to the patio. Would be a much more pleasant experience if there was at least a server or two for the patio tables considering they are the furthest from the bar. Overall, I do love this winery for a place to go with friends and enjoy the nature and wine but there are areas of the business that could use improvement. read more

This place is a beautiful gem between Mankato & St. Peters, that I unknowingly passed up all the time. The grounds are beautiful, staff was great, but the reason for the two stars is for the unfortunate covert situation I experienced. I don't imagine they get many people of color coming to this winery as there aren't a large population of minorities between the two towns. However, I was invited to this place by a group of friends to which I was the only one. I ended up buying one of their most expensive glasses of wine, and noticed the glass I was given was a flight size glass, while my friends got the bigger glasses. She mentioned the alcohol content being higher so I assumed that was the reason, and said nothing of it. Although, my friends did notice as well. After my 2nd glass ( they poured in the same glass), I ended up looking at the base of my glass, and noticed a blue line drawn on it with one of those markers you can use to write on glass. It seemed obvious this was to distinguish my glass from the others. I looked around to my friends glasses, and no one else had this mark. It was a very clear distinct mark. I was immediately embarrassed and hoped my friends didn't notice, but I think one did, as I started to hold the glass oddly by the base to cover this mark with my hand. I could have went to the staff and or management to ask about it, but I'm classy and didn't want to make a scene. Instead, I wiped the mark off with my hand, so that in the end, they wouldn't be able to distinguish which glass was mine. Although the staff was friendly to me, and I still tipped over 20%, clearlyone of the girls behind the girls behind the bar had certain views, unless that something the winery taught them to do. Hope not. Had this not happen, I would have gone back. Curious to know what they would have done with the glass....thrown it away; use bleach? Never experienced anything like that before in my life. read more

This was a nice winery. We went with friends and family to go out back behind the clubhouse where they had several performers and dancing and of course, drinks. It was a fun night. We saw Kat Steven's from American Idol. The winery also sells some spirits that are also very good for those of you that don't like wine. I took a lot of photo of the beautiful creek trees and other scenery for your enjoyment. I wish this place was closer to home. It is too far for us to be regulars. We did a tasting here and we didn't like as many wines as we thought we would. read more

I love it here!! Affordable, good wines plus amazing ambiance makes for a great experience. BUT- keep in mind you're in Minnesota; my friends, so picking a nice afternoon or evening to be outdoors will have a direct impact on how much you enjoy the place. The food is great, but put your orders in early on busy nights. It's not fast food. The charcuterie plate is a MUST with your wine selection. Wood-fired pizzas are delicious. Definitely watch the website and note when they are featuring live music. A great band, a glass of wine, good friends, nothing can beat that. read more

It's an easy drive from St. Paul, even in the winter! Lots of interesting places to stop along the way if you're looking for an entire day-trip! I'm not sure if I was confused, or the wine-pourer was confused. We asked which wines were made at Chakaska, and he said all those with circles have Minnesota grapes. What? I'm assuming those were THEIR wines... but what? Really didn't give us any info about any of the wines. And it's not like they were busy. It was noon, and we were the ONLY ppl in the tasting room. Personally, I tried the spirits (as the wine reviews were shaky). Quite good! I didn't buy any, but there was a nice selection ! The pizza was REALLY good! Highly recommend! Overall? The wine was expensive... and was meh. The spirits were good (but I had to drive... soooo... maybe next time I'll try more) Why 4 stars? It's worth seeing! It's gorgeous! Loved it! They do some taste testing where you can try 5 different wines for 7 dollars. I would recommend trying the specialty wines the north forest peppermynte Krem and the north forest pumpa krem were my favorites but I also enjoyed the Drew drop sugar-coated Rose was also good. I also tried one of the pizzas which were super good to! I loved the way they had the place decorated. Definitely had a cozy feel and I loved all the Christmas decorations they had. Visited the Chankaska Winery on July 4th. We were among the first to arrive, beating the lunch crowd. We were greeted immediately, had the tasting options explained, and our first taste on the deck inside of 10 minutes. We walked the grounds along the rushing creek before returning to the deck for more wine and an excellent pizza. We were given a short background of each wine we sampled, and out of the 9 different wines, we only loved ALL of them. We especially liked the pinot, and would recommend it. All the reds were very good, as was the Port. It was a beautiful day, and we thouroghly enjoyed our visit. Definitely will go back. read more

I love driving to southern MN (this is close enough), especially along the river. When you need a getaway from the cities, head down to St. Peter for some amazing R&R. Did you know, St. Peter was the original capital of Minnesota? Anyways...wine. Chankaska is an amazing place to visit, they have everything you want and need out of a winery. Great wine, tours, tastings, food, live music, games, beautiful grounds, wedding/party opportunities, open Mondays....all those good things :) What I love most about Chankaska, is their attention to detail in their ambiance. As soon as you drive up, their landscaping and entrance is welcoming and classy. The tasting room is a good size, but they've divided it up so groups feel more intimate. Their exposed beams, wooden tables, fireplace, and decor are super inviting and cozy. They have a back porch with heaters, and their patio downstairs has cafe lighting and plenty of room. Their grounds are NOT to be missed. Got a first date or anniversary? Definitely take a stroll together through the gardens, over the bridge, by the creek, and take your wine with you. There is plenty of space for your large group outing or wedding. They have snack plates as well as delicious pizza to go with your wines. Tastings are $7 for 5 - definitely try some of the more expensive ports and such, and don't be afraid to take your time, or take your wine for a stroll outside. read more

The ambiance is calm and relaxing, the buratta was flavorful, the wood fired pizza was fairly good, and the wine was divine! What a beautiful area this winery is in! They do a terrific job with their wines and food. If you get the chance, sit outside. The patio overlooks their wonderful vineyard and a gorgeous stream. Their wine tasting deal is such a steal because you get to pick the wines you want to try. They've got a large variety of whites and reds that make for a perfect tasting. Nice grounds and wines and food were very good. Had a group of 14 and we're celebrating our daughters bday. We were seated outside on two picnic tables away from the restaurant. We had bought a small cake before not knowing they had dessert options and we gave everyone a piece after spending $500+ on wine and food. The hostess came out and was very rude saying absolutely no outside food allowed. Needless to say it tainted what would have otherwise been a top notch day. Policy or not, gotta think before you speak. Would still recommend the place but her attitude has got to go. read more

We didn't try the wine as we were there at noon. We came because they advertised gluten-free pizza crusts on their menu. When we went to order, however, it became very clear that the cook was not willing to actually make something that would be gluten free. He said that the spatulas were shared and that the grill where they cook is contaminated by the regular crusts. When we asked if he might be able to use a clean spatula and cook ours on a pan, he pointed out that the sauce also has gluten in it. He did not want to help us, which is his right. I just think that if you are going to advertise gluten-free crusts, you should be prepared to make something gluten-free. I left and went back to my home in Minneapolis to eat. I have eaten at other wineries in Minnesota and not had any problems like this. read more

Being from Northern CA, my MN friends were nervously excited to show me Chankaska. They had no need to be worried-- I loved it! I made it a priority to taste the grapes that were grown and processed in MN (several of their whites come from WA and the reds from CA). The wines I tried were consistently drinkable and flavorful. I was especially interested in trying their ice wine, as it is a process that isn't used in Northern CA. The setting is amazing-- beautiful park, perfect patio, and the sound of the rushing creek. It was only made better by a perfect pizza and charcuterie platter. Worth the trip! read more

Great selection of wines available. The food is also very good considering it is not the main focus. The pizza is excellent with its Neapolitan style. The atmosphere is wonderful with the big outdoor patio. They often have musical guests each weekend. I enjoy the midnight mix musical group. More enjoyable to visit when it's warm because of the area outside. The inside of the place is quite small and gets crowded. Wine bottles are about $15-25 each. The landscape is also very beautiful so it's fun to walk around the grounds.
