This brewery is in a 130 year old building. It doesn't look like much from the outside. Actually, it doesn't look like much on the inside either! But these guys brew really good beer, and that's the important thing. I tried the red ale and it was excellent. They have 12 different beers on tap. Also, they are expanding the taproom with more seating. Will definitely check back to see the new space and add another star. read more

Drove down to Montgomery, MN to visit @montgomerybrewing . Located in a historic building, it is a cozy space with plenty of beer to try. I had great conversations with the beertender and the brewer. They are in the process of upgrading the brewhouse so keep an eye out for these folks who are not just pouring beers from the tap room, but also canning & distributing. I gave seven beers a try. Mind Bender: A kettle sour with fruit added including Cara Cara Orange, Tangerine, Pineapple, Passionfruit, and Blue Spirulina. Tart, but not warhead candy mouth puckering. A little sweetness that reminds you of sipping something of a tropical mimosa. Hubar: A big Triple IPA sitting at 10.22% ABV. It is a dark yellow hazy color that balances between the bitterness you want from an IPA, while having grapefruit juice and tangerine zest hop flavor. Sneaky drink for a beer over 10%. Peanut Buster Porter: I can't resist a Porter that tastes like peanut butter even if it was over a 100 degrees outside. A pitch black beer with sweet peanut butter flavor. The peanut butter flavor is closer to a Jif peanut butter than the organic or freshly ground PB. The beertender gave a sample of mixing this with the triple berry bomb and it was just like a PB&J! Hop Junkies: Nelson Sauvin: A Hazy New England IPA featuring one of my favorite hop varietals right now Nelson Sauvin. Limited amounts of white wine grape flavor, primarily expressing passionfruit and almost a gooseberry flavor / aroma. Bitter, but not palate crushing. Longball Lager: A crushable American Lager with more malt flavor than a lot of lagers. I get a medium bready malt note with low hop bitterness and flavor. A refreshing lager and a nice change of pace from all the other beers in my flight. Shelterbelt: A Brown Ale with a medium-light body with plenty of nutty / roasty flavors. A style that can not just warm you up with the malt flavors, but also go down easy when it's hot out without being heavy Triple Berry Bomb: A kettle sour with raspberry, blueberry & blackberry fruit additions and vanilla & lactose to provide a creamy / thicker body. read more

Yesterday was my third or fourth ever visit to Montgomery and not much has changed. The beer is still excellent, staff is friendly and the owner is sitting amongst townies!! When I was greeted at the register thinking the fellow looked familiar from a facebook post, I asked "are you the brewer?!" He was, and I thought that was cool that he was pouring!! I asked both brewer Josh and beertender Alex what their current go-to's were? They both said the watermelon kolsch and the DIPA. I opted for the delicious Peanut Buster Porter and the slap the table tart Cherry Cheesecake!! Before I left I told Alex where I was headed, asking if he had any recommendations? just a short recent visit, bur this place is exactly what a (semi-rural) taproom experience should be -- love the building, the taproom, the beer, A little funky but in the beat way. Most of the Minneapolis area taprooms I've visited are very good, but to me Montgomery is a stand-out. read more

Not an easy entrance to the place. You have to walk a ramp and open a blank metal door. Weird. Cozy inside and cool decor. Had their signature Chief amber ale and the brown ale. Nothing special taste wise but nice color. Bartender was friendly and helpful. read more

I've heard about this brewery for about two and a half years because they have a peanut butter porter my husband absolutely loves, but we never really found a reason to visit until recently. I needed to find the spiciest pizza I could and the pizzeria down the street just so happens to make one. So they don't have a food menu at the brewery but seem to have food trucks that come out, but you can order pizza from Pizzeria 201 and bring your pies into the brewery to eat while you. I think we can all agree there's not many things that are a perfect combination as hot pizza and cold beer. They have a great selection of beers to choose from, you can also purchase some to bring home! Definitely worth the drive and we will be visiting again soon read more

We have been enjoying Montgomery Brewing beers for several years now thanks to their distribution through Hyvee and they rarely disappoint! With some extra time on a Saturday morning we decided to swing on by the brewery! The historic space is super quirky but also super fun! The staff was very nice and went over the top to ensure we enjoyed our selections. We spent a couple hours playing cards and sampling the menu and no beers failed! My wife and I were on a road trip from Minneapolis. We stopped by Minnesota's largest candy store, which is way cool. Montgomery Brewing is following all of the protocols, and I ordered the peanut buster porter first. Way good. They had stickers for $1, so I picked up 2. I next had the Wine Mixer Sour, it was really good. Not too sour and lots of women were getting it. Really great service and I got a crowler of IPA and my wife got a t-shirt. Cool place! read more

Wish we had received the service everybody on here is raving about. My family of 16 ranging from 10-77 went here today and spent over $100 only to be treated like dirt! One of the children accidentally plugged the toilet and the female employee proceeded to swear and cuss at my family, scaring the kids and making one cry of shame! She then told us to get the f**ck out or she was calling the police. Really?! For a child overflowing your toilet on accident? Mind you a few of our family that were with are veterans to this country!! Shame on you!!! You can't help but admire small-town places that would otherwise pass for "townie bars", but are still a welcoming and warm place for anybody who drops by. And hats-off to the folks who started a brewery in a town that hadn't seen one in over 100-years in an attempt to bring back some "heritage" while playing with fun flavors of brews! Let's be honest - it's a small space with two high-top barrel/tables, and seven sit-down tables. But on a frigid Sunday afternoon on a frosty February in Minnesota, in the middle of a pandemic filed with masks and social distancing, I found a laid-back and fun atmosphere...friendly tap-meisters and chatty locals sitting at nearby tables alike. Now for the beer... Today, there were a dozen beers on tap...from a brewery running a 1.5bbl system and providing crowlers to a ton of local distribution spots! Simply put, they brew like crazy, so the beer is always fresh. Today there were four hazy IPAs on tap, each with a twist on malt or hop balance. I might not have necessarily liked each variant, but I can definitely appreciate a variety. A sour weighing-in at 8% had a fruity and lactose hint, but still carries enough malt to balance it out. Lastly, a 12.3% barleywine that obviously spent some quality time in bourbon barrels gave light and boozy, yet not sweet-enough-to-call-the-dentist finish. If you're looking for a break from the run-of-the-mill taprooms in the Twin Cities Metro, Montgomery Brewing is worth the short trip south...if nothing just to give you a perspective to "recalibrate"...Prost! read more

The building is over 100 years old, and the home of the original Montgomery Brewery, so it is a rich in history and tradition. The Amber Ale comes from a recipe handed down from the original brewery. Shelterbelt Brown Ale good. Peanut Butter Porter ok Zlate Pivo ( Pilsner-Czech) good. XPA(Pale Ale American) good. Pleasant Hill good. The place allows dogs, no food service. All of their beers are good, but my favorite was the Peanut Buster Porter. Oh my gosh, this beer is LEGIT. If you like peanut butter like me, you will absolutely love this one. It's like you're drinking peanut butter in a glass. We had a growler with us and bought this beer to enjoy at home. We had the opportunity to chat with one of the managers there and get a behind-the-scenes look of their brewing process, too. Overall, great night! Great Beer with great staff. Very good selection and I think the hop junkies variants are great! I have to add that I was there at the same time "Al M." was and remember him and the situation well. However, he left out many of the details. First he was harassing a female customer and she asked staff to get him away from her. They did and he was allowed to sit where he was before. He soon became hostile and started loudly calling one of the employees obscene names. He was asked to leave several times, but refused, even after he was told they would call the police to have him removed. He was asked to pay his bill but loudly refused. The police were called and he started harassing another customer. That customer coaxed him outside. When "Al M." went out the door, the customer locked the door behind him. The entire bar started cheering and clapping. read more

Took a little Saturday drive to go check out Montgomery Brewing and it was worth the drive. They offer 11 beers on tap with 5 being their flagships and the others on rotation. I had a flight of their flagships and they all were pretty solid. The Double IPA was by far my favorite of the flight. Out of their rotating taps I tried the Kolsch and the Hopnado which is a Imperial Double IPA. Both were very well done and tasty. Friendly staff, great patrons and a beautiful taproom. We love this place, it's got great character and the staff is very friendly. The thing we love about this place is that there is at least 3 beers that I like and at least 4 my husband likes. So many times at other brewerys it seems like we can only find one beer that we really like. They have a 2x Ipa that my husband thinks is the best beer he has ever had. The atmosphere here is great, you can see their tanks behind glass and the big chalkboard above the tanks is beautifully decorated. It justs feels comfortable, warm and inviting. They sell meat sticks and a cracker type snack from a couple of local places, and also keep a menu for pizzeria 201 that will deliver there. Wow, small business keeping it local and supporting each other, you gotta love that. Because we go so frequently we have gotten to know some of the staff, Jay has always made us feel extremely welcome and makes an effort to greet us when ever we come in. I like this small home town charm where they make you feel like they truly appreciate your business and taking the time to drive down and visit their place. A young man named Josh came to our table and asked us how things were and if he could get us a refill, on those rare occasions when the brewery isn't being bombarded with patrons the servers actually have time to come over and talk with you. Where do you see that? We bought ourselves a couple of tulip or abbey glasses, and they were only 5.00 a piece, so reasonable, of course we also went home with a growler and a couple of t shirts.
