So I saw a lot of framed newspaper articles on the wall right after walking in that talked about how this place has won local awards and whatnot due to their flavor. I wish I could say that I had been able to enjoy that flavor because I wasn't too impressed with it. I had the Yummy Chicken and the sauce definitely made the dish, but that was about it. Just got to be honest. I'm giving them 4 stars though for a couple of reasons even though I feel the flavor is 3 or below. This place has been around for a while and they fill a need in the community. I think there's only one other Asian restaurant in the entire area in Campbell County south of I-275 so this place definitely has a place! It's owned and run by immigrants who could really use all the support they can right now due to Covid. Also, I want to go back and try more including appetizers and see how it is. Ok so... a lot to unpack. Two stars is actually generous. I would not order from here again. But i also want them to improve. It can't be easy to be an Asian food place in Kentucky. Here are my hang ups and suggestions for improvement. 1. Google your menu items to make sure you're naming them appropriately. I am new to this neighborhood, and searched "chow fun" on DoorDash. It's one of my favorites. The sole reason for selecting this restaurant was the presence of said chow fun on the menu. What i received was decidedly not chow fun. It was dry vermicelli with a sprinkling of meat and veggies. 2. Use more authentic ingredients. Just across the border of Ohio is one of the largest international markets I've ever seen; Jungle Jim's. Maybe take some time exploring Asian ingredients there. I don't think I've ever had mixed "Asian" veggies that included hunks of white mushroom and zucchini. The sauce was pretty decent on these, but having the big chunks of white mushroom & squash wind up making it more bland. If they were more thinly sliced or a different type (maybe shiitake/eggplant?), they would absorb that good sauce and boost the flavor of the dish. 3. Anticipate expectations and status quo. I saw quite a few reviews where customers were confused by the combo-meal-style portions. Typically Chinese food places provide the entrees in their own box, and then a box of rice to go with. The box might hold the exact same amount you are giving, but the fact that it comes in a split container makes it feel like you're getting less. Also, people often order multiple entrees without the need to pair a side/rice every time. Providing a combo option might seem like a better deal to you, but when the expectation for the established American Asian food standard is subverted... people feel like they're being ripped off. I don't own a restaurant. I don't know what it's like. I just know with home delivery in the mix more than ever, you're competing with a huge range of restaurants, and reaching more people (like me) who would never have been to your physical location. I've had a great experience the last few times I've ordered. The food was hot and fresh! My favorites are the General Tso's chicken and the Crab Rangoons. Perfect spice level. Perfect crispiness! I crave it all the time. My husband enjoys the lo mein. I'll definitely keep ordering! read more

Stopped in for lunch with my better half and ordered the Thai Basil Chicken to share. It was very good and perfect spice. I love my food hot and spicy. I always say, if I'm not sweating, I'm not eating. I asked for some hot oil. The waiter brought me hot sauce. I said again, "hot oil" .. The manager, cook? Said " we do not have got oil". I'm like WHAT, no hot oil. Anyway the food actually didn't "need" it. It was good as it was. We got our check and ONE fortune cookie. LOL. I guess we did only order ONE meal. The Thai Basil was very good and fresh. Only time I have ever been denied hot oil though. Actually the hot sauce wasn't that bad. Hum Came back for dinner and BY GOLLY they have hot oil. read more

We picked up carryout from Chan's today and my entree was awful. I decided to try the Hibachi chicken with fried rice and it was terrible. Chicken was dry and overcooked, rice was terrible and yum sauce actually tasted soured. Bourbon chicken with beef lo-main item was fine. Awful! I ordered Combination Chow Fun. I did not get wide noodles - I got thin noodles (Mei Fun). It was 95 percent noodles. Very little meat, hardly any vegetables and I paid $13.95 for it! Wow The pictures on the coupons look great, was going to grab a quick lunch with my parents. So I ordered two General's chickens and one shrimp lo mein seemed pretty tasteful but 20 minutes later we all had upset stomachs!!! I dont like giving bad reviews to small businesses but after trying this place two separate times, I decided my experience wasnt a singular event. The food is HORRIBLE. Recent order was bourbon chicken which tasted like the Tyson grilled chicken you buy in a bad with some colored water at the bottom. The sauce was so thin that I basically had grilled chicken. Compared to other places, portions are small. Everything fits into one small container. Lo mein is oily with no flavor. Fried rice is white rice with some a tiny bit of soy sauce to give it a hint of color. Food was so bad, it went right to the trash. The food was satisfactory, but the portion size was unsatisfactory. We had it delivered to our hotel room and ended up calling them to say that the gave us the lunch portion size instead of the dinner size. To my surprise that was the dinner size. Additionally, no sauce on the sesame and general tso chicken (you know how you mix the extra sauce with the rice...dry rice isn't tasty), no sweet and sour sauce for the crab rangoon, no napkins, and a spork (spoon/fork combo utensil) is not what you should get to eat Chinese food. My wife were reflecting on why we come here. It is not the best Chinese food in the world, but it is okay. For the area, it is as good as any of the other Chinese places. I recently went to Chan's with my father when we were visiting family in Cincinnati . I had the chicken with mixed vegetables (picture included). It was pretty standard except the vegetables included squash and green beans and everything tasted fresh. Also I ordered brown rice and got no complaints. Portion size was just right. Had dinner here last night. Food was excellent, customer service was great also. Very attentive but not too much---but what struck me was all the people coming in for pick ups- they were regulars and they were greeted as regular customers. He knew all their names and greeted them as they entered. So nice to see this friendliness in a business. read more

I hate to give a one star rating. That being said I ordered this food and paid $35 for what I expected to be a meal that would feed four people. The amount of food we got barely was enough for two people. The rice and chicken combined weighed less than a pound. I ordered bourbon chicken but what we got was anything but that. Very bland very tasteless. Do not order from this restaurant. The hot and sour soup smelled like cat urine. The fried rice is dry white rice with egg in it. The chicken in the chicken and broccoli lunch combo was slimy and the broccoli was bland and rubbery. The egg roll and crab Rangoon were ok but the entire expensive meal was ruined by the urine soup - which had to be removed from the table due to smell. I've become a regular at Chan's because of how close it is to my office. Although I'll honestly say the food is not 5-star Chinese cuisine, it is very good for the area and price. The restaurant is decorated tastefully and is always spotless. Mr. Chan and his family are hard-working, compassionate folks who have come to know me by name. They always ask how work is going, how my family is, and if I'd like my usual (orange chicken with baby corn and fried rice), which is then served within 5 minutes of my arrival. Although I could probably drive into the city and get better, I will continue to support Chan's because they support and encourage me during a long work day. read more

Still probably the nicest of Chan's slowly growing chain of local Chinese restaurant/take-out joints. Okay, yes, it's a hole-in-the-wall in a strip mall. Okay, yes, it's not fine dining -in point of fact, it might be an unwise first choice for a date night. But it's honestly GOOD dining, when you dine in. Non-traditional, but perfectly respectable for a business lunch, or a family dinner. The atmosphere is nice, the food is awesome, and the staff is unfailingly polite. And the take-out is AWESOME -the key to every Chinese restaurant, really. Face it: these little take-out restaurants, for all their faults, are the mom&pop Italian spaghetti parlors of the twentryfirst century. Immigrant families using good food, good service and long hours to bootstrap their way into the American middle class. And that's awesome. You should give them your business. read more

Ordered Thai vegetable roll, crab Rangoon, and Pad Thai. The roll was good but a bit oily. The crab Rangoon was good. The sweet and sour dipping sauce was runny. The Pad Thai was missing the peanuts. I asked for mild and got kind of spicy instead. The Pad Thai was edible but didn't have much taste other than the spice. It had been a couple of months since my wife and I dined there. The food had always been good, but not today. The sesame chicken that I had was terrible. Visited for the first time this evening. My wife and my three kids really enjoyed the meal. The portions were very nice. The best part was our server who was very funny, entertaining and very attentive. My wife really love the shrimp fried rice and my son Raved about the beef and garlic sauce dish. If I could give zero stars I would. When this place opened back in the day, the high level of customer service and quality food won the owner accolades in local reviews. It's unfortunate that the current owner has run all that hard fought reputation right into the ground! On my last visit, I asked for a plastic fork for my carry out (I knew they had them in the back), because I could not eat lo mein with the cheap sporks they put out. Instead, the cranky lady behind the counter demonstrated for me how to shovel food into my mouth with said spork and bowl held to my mouth. Really??? In a pinch for time recently, I called in an order on the run. An entree an 2 orders of spring rolls (which I clarified as 4 pieces). When I arrived I paid $16 , grabbed the package and headed for the door thinking $16 was high--which was confirmed with the barely full entree container a 2, yes 2 spring rolls I unpacked when I got home. I've dined in and gotten take-out here. My most recent order was Kung Pao Chicken (take-out) with brown rice ($1 extra) and Thai rolls. Hubby got Chicken Pad Thai. He was very disappointed with the pad thai and ended up throwing it away after only eating about a quarter of it--said it was filled with cabbage, couldn't find any chicken, and the flavor was bad. So, you probably want to stick to actual Chinese food here. My Kung Pao came in a plastic sectioned container, brown rice on one side, chicken/veg/sauce on the other. It was nice for take-out, but the portion was actually kind of small for Chinese food. Plenty for a meal, but don't plan on making multiple meals from it if that's what you're used to. The chicken wasn't the best quality ever, but the flavor of the dish overall was good. Fairly mild spice, so if you like spicy, you'll have to request it. I liked the 'Thai Rolls'--essentially deep-fried, vegetarian Spring Rolls. Pricing is pretty standard; they usually have coupons in local mailers so that makes the value even better. read more

We dropped in for lunch on a Sat. recently and I have to say the staff is very friendly and prompt. I think they must do a lot of take out from the signage on the windows and the automatic question asked as anyone walked in....Take Out? We ate in and chose the peppered chicken, which although tasty, didn't have any particular Asian flair, we thought. I had one of the shrimp dishes, which was spicy and saucy (both important to me!).
