If I could give zero stars I would. When this place opened back in the day, the high level of customer service and quality food won the owner accolades in local reviews. It's unfortunate that the current owner has run all that hard fought reputation right into the ground! On my last visit, I asked for a plastic fork for my carry out (I knew they had them in the back), because I could not eat lo mein with the cheap sporks they put out. Instead, the cranky lady behind the counter demonstrated for me how to shovel food into my mouth with said spork and bowl held to my mouth. Really??? In a pinch for time recently, I called in an order on the run. An entree an 2 orders of spring rolls (which I clarified as 4 pieces). When I arrived I paid $16 , grabbed the package and headed for the door thinking $16 was high--which was confirmed with the barely full entree container a 2, yes 2 spring rolls I unpacked when I got home. This is decent Chinese food at a reasonable price. I've been here often when I need a quick meal. The food didn't blow me away, but it's good, just nothing special. The dishes I feel sometimes just don't have much to them. I've never had anything bad there though. The menu is pretty extensive so we've never had a problem finding something. I used to be vegetarian and I was able to find suitable food for me then too. When we get carry out from here, it has come in very nice, dish washer, microwave safe plastic containers. We love these and end up reusing them for quite a while. So order carry out and get a bonus reusable container! read more

By far the worst Chinese I've ever had. This is actually the second time here and I didn't care for it either time but decided to give it another shot. My husband got bourbon chicken, it was pink and tasted awful. I got orange chicken and it was okay. Our waitress never came back to check on us and never bought us refills. Chan's Asian Wok has fairly decent food. But nothing overly exciting. I ordered the beef with garlic sauce and mixed vegetables. It was supposed to be a spicy dish, but had absolutely no heat or spicy flavor at all. It was good, but tasted like every other standard Chinese meal. I was quite disappointed. I ordered fried rice with mine. Not QUITE a fried rice, but more of a white rice with a brownish tint. It had none of the regular fried rice items in it (ie: eggs, onion bits, etc.) I had an eggroll also, which was crispy and delicious. My husband ordered the pork lo mein. It was ok. The noodles were a bit dry. Not enough sauce. Overall, the food isn't terrible, if you want something fast. But, some of their dishes are a bit lacking. read more

I feel like the majority of the good reviews on here are from people with really low standards when it comes to Chinese cuisine. I'm not going to compare Chan's to terrible all-you-can-eat buffets, because they're a full-service restaurant. First off, you better hope you're not watching your blood pressure if you come here. Everything is smothered in salt. The food is cooked in a flash with very little effort. The beef tastes like it's been sitting out all day, and the noodles are soggy. I've been here twice. Both times, I ordered Beef Chow Fun, which is on their menu. The first time, I even had it written in Chinese (乾炒牛河) so that there would be no confusion as to what I want. Their response was, "We're out of that. But we have Pad Thai. It's the same thing". The same thing? Really? Then how can you have one but not the other? They're completely different dishes with completely different flavors. They don't even come from the same country. I felt like they were trying to take advantage of the fact that most Americans don't know their Chinese food, but I had it written in Chinese! I said it in Cantonese! I showed them a picture of the dish on my phone! How much more direct can you get? Eventually, I just agreed to Pad Thai, which was less than mediocre. The second time I ordered Ho Fun, they gave me Cantonese Lo Mein with beef. If you're not familiar with Chinese food, a good analogy would be if I ordered fettuccine alfredo and they gave me spaghetti marinara. And it was the saltiest Lo Mein I've ever had in my life, and I ended up throwing half of it away. The service was terrible. The cashier kept ignoring me to talk to his friends who came in, so I had to repeat myself several times. I started to give my order and he shouted over me to his friends, "HEY, HOW'S IT GOING?!" then turned to me and asked, "Huh? What'd you say?" This happened a few times because he kept trying to carry on his conversation with his friends instead of taking my order. If I had been dining in, I would have asked for my money back and left without touching my food. Unfortunately, I got carryout and was already home before I realized how terrible it was. If I'm craving Chinese food in the future, I'll just make the drive down to Florence to go to Memories of China. Maybe it's uncouth to mention another restaurant in the review, but Chan could take some tips from Memories, where I get a Chinese menu and the owner knows her cuisine. And before I forget price, let me also mention that the money I spent at Chan's would get me twice as much at Memories. read more

We've ordered from Chan's several times with no issue, but tonight was a horrible experience. We ordered two orders of General Tso's chicken and an order of sweet and sour chicken for our boys. The General Tso's chicken had ZERO vegetables and tested rubbery and bland. The sweet and sour chicken came with the wrong kind of rice and was also lukewarm. We ordered Hot and Sour soup as well, which is my wife's favorite, but it might as well have been called Cold and Crappy soup, because that is how it tasted. We spent almost $50 after delivery fees and was very disappointed to get lukewarm food, especially since the delivery driver arrived promptly, so it would seem like the food left the restaurant that way. Even though there aren't really any other options for Chinese close, we won't be going back to Chan's anytime soon. read more

As far as Chinese, this is about as American as it gets. Everything (ingredient-wise) seems frozen, then thawed, and fried. The chicken tastes old, the rice is not true fried rice, and the egg rolls were soggy inside. Really nothing to be desired here. read more

We go to Chan's about once a week. The food is delicious. The staff is very friendly and very prompt. Mr. Chan, the owner, is such a nice man. He even gave us tickets to a Louisville basketball game one time when we went in to pick up food! The different sauces are set up on a table on the way out of the restaurant and anyone is welcome to take whatever they wish. Love the food, love the service, and I would highly recommend! read more

Chan's is the best Chinese in the Cold Spring/Alexandria/Highland Heights area, hands down. They serve your typical Chinese-American fare, but the dishes are much better quality than other Chinese places in the area. It's a great place to get take out if you work close by. The staff are very friendly whether you dine in or get it to go, and after a few trips, they'll already be remembering your orders. Their egg rolls, spring rolls, and crab rangoons are all solid appetizer choices. My favorite dish used to be the General Tso's chicken, but once I tried their Mongolian beef, I never looked back. The seasoned and sauteed beef goes great with the big hunks of mushrooms, onions, baby corn, and other vegetables. The sauce is just perfect as well, especially if you ask for it extra spicy. All their entrees come with chicken satay, which is nice. The prices are all very reasonable, and you get a big portion for the money. If you're in the area and craving good Chinese food, this is a can't miss. read more

Probably the worst take out Chinese food I have ever eaten. I have eaten there before, but the quality seems to have declined. I should have known when there were not any customers in the restaurant. I ordered general tso chicken, egg rolls and spring rolls. The chicken was tuff, bland and chewy. The spring rolls were filled with large chunks of chewy cabbage which made it almost impossible to chew. The egg rolls were what really had me worried. I cut one open and there was some unidentifiable pinkish orangish chunks in them. I don't have a clue what it was. I didn't even risk trying to take a bite. I would not recommend this place. It's over priced and the food is terrible. Im now afraid that I may get food poisoning. I had to throw everything away. Waste of $15. read more
