On the look for a new go-to Chinese place because mine closed. Heard great things so we ordered. Food was hot and made timely. I ordered the normal meal for our family. Sesame chicken, sweet and sour pork, fried dumplings, and pork lo mein. Everything was good. Not the same but a lot better than others we tried. Dumplings were a little thin on the wrapper. But I really enjoyed their dipping sauce. Who knew Chinese food was so polarizing. I'm not sure I I like really good food and nothing will be up to par. Or if I only like really bad food. In my quest to discover the local spots in my new neighborhood I came across this restaurant while looking for American Chinese food. Some days you just want some "American Chinese food" and this was that day for me. What really surprised me about this place was value you get. The portion sizes are pretty large and the price is right on point. The food was good, it wasn't greasy like most Chinese places which was a plus. The Mongolian beef dish I had was sauced just right and the meat was very tender. Fried rice that accompanied my dish however was rather bland along with the egg roll. It wasn't bad, just your standard American Chinese food. One item I really enjoyed were the crab rangoons. Once again, not greasy, and the filling had a sweetness to it which complimented the fried wonton wrap surrounding it. Don't be fooled by the tiny little restaurant Chan Wok, tucked into the Tops plaza off North French. This place has the best Chinese/fusion food in Erie or Niagara County. I ordered through postmates and always get hot, sumptuous foods. The soup is cleaner and fresher than Pho, all the entrees are good enough for left overs and savory, spicy, favorites and sides. The bag is never wet, the food is hot to the touch, and really reasonably priced. I think delivery is the best way to go as the little restaurant isn't very large. I'll start by saying that I hate to give anyone a 1-star review. This was warranted though. We ordered takeout and everything with the exception of the rice was poor. The soup was the consistency of snot, the chicken and broccoli had a VERY heavy chemical smell and taste, and the beef and broccoli was severely under-cooked. Everything went to waste. Chan's Wok is a classic Chinese-American restaurant; you know what you're getting into when you order food from here. The interior is pretty standard, lack of decor, but it has seats and tables if you need to stop for a moment. A restaurant like this is for affordable takeout, and I believe it does very well here! I've ordered the same lunch special three times so far and I can say that the taste and portioning is pretty consistent. The price of a standard lunch special here is about 8 dollars, which is pretty reasonable considering it's very filling, coming from a big eater like myself! The lo mein is up to par with my usual takeout spot, and the egg roll is pretty standard. One common review seems to be the fried rice is under-seasoned, which I have to agree, but I still find it enjoyable, especially if you're looking for rice that isn't overly greasy. The cashier is apologetic when she doesn't need to be, but I can't complain much with how friendly she is! The lunch special usually takes 10-15 minutes, and even if it's taking a little longer than usual, the front of house is very apologetic and friendly. The food wasn't even running late and they even through in a free drink unprompted! They seem to really care about their customers and it really helps the business when this type of business is extremely common in presentation and flavor. Spending more time up in Tonawanda these days, I needed a place for some take-out to feed six people, and Chan's didn't disappoint. Pretty much on par quality wise with most good Chinese takeout places, but you definitely get your money's worth here. Portion sizes were ample, and it didn't break the bank. This has become such a disappointment. We used to get such great food. Not anymore. We have order several times in the last few months and the food keeps going down hill. The chicken is so fatty and lately the only veggies they use at celery. The portions aren't anything like they used to be. The only thing that is still really good are the crab Rangoon. read more

It's your typical Chinese takeout restaurant but with very reasonable prices with quick service. I ordered the General Tsao's Chicken which is supposed to be spicy but it wasn't spicy at all. It seemed to me like they used sesame chicken sauce without the sesame seeds. It doesn't bother me personally because I like both but I was expecting some heat. The egg rolls were subpar. If you had asked me to rate this place a year ago, I would likely have given them 3-4 stars because the food was really good and the prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, just like many other restaurants in the post-COVID world, their prices have gone up over the past year. The prices at this establishment have increased between 30-40%. Higher prices are truly unfortunate but they are not the sole reason for the rating. I'm this case, while the prices keep going up, the food quality and the portion sizes have decreased. Great Food! Fed a HUGE crowd and considering the amount and size of the order that we just "dropped" on them out of the blue - the wait was short and the food was all 100% on point. I've been going here for as long as I can remember. My mom used to treat my brother and I to Won Ton soup whenever we were sick in high school and it was always the perfect medicine. My personal favorites are the shrimp toast, crab rangoons, and their Pu Pu Platter. If you are a vegetarian, be warned that there aren't as many options available as you might be used to. My brother is a huge fan of their sesame chicken and sweet and sour chicken. It's typical Americanized Chinese food, so don't expect your palate to be blown. The location is tucked back next to the old BJs and blends in a bit. I definitely recommend taking your food to go as the sitting area is a little less than dive-y.
