I went to Chantecler's with my family and the food was great. My dad has celiac disease and they were able to accommodate him. He was able to choose from any of the meats, fish or risotto. Chantecler's is a solid option if you're ever in Sorrento. It wasn't our favorite meal of the stay, but it was still good. We got the fried anchovies to start. The flavor was good but it was dry and there was no dipping sauce. Both the pastas were really good. I got spaghetti with clams and my wife got a porcini pasta. For our mains we both got the bass. I really enjoyed mine, but my wife's fish had a lot of bones in it. The service was great and we really enjoyed the wines. It is located off the main street and feels secluded, which is nice a tourist hotspot like Sorrento. read more

We loved the gnocchi and the fryer zucchini flowers. It would have been nice to have a little more arugula in our salad but the tomatoes were delicious. So fresh. Bread service to start. This is a great little restaurant the owner & his staff are very friendly & very accommodating. This was our last night in Sorrento and this restaurant was the best restaurant we ate at our entire stay in Sorrento . My girlfriend got the sea bass and it was grilled perfect. We split the mozzarella caprese which was awesome . I had the grilled octopus that was grilled to perfection. They give you more than enough food.We couldn't eat all of our dinner and they thought something was wrong. We told them everything was awesome. I will definitely eat here again on my next trip to Sorrento. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Best meal that we had in that area. The owner and workers are all very welcoming and nice, the food is outstanding and fresh. We had their fiori di zucca, parmigiana, prosciutto e treccia, gnocchi alla sorrentina, tagliatelle con pesto, noci e salvia, crocche' di patate and limoncello. They make sure you like your wine or you can change it...food is good, not like a lot of places in Sorrento, just taking care of folks, nothing fancy just delicious and hot! This place seems to serve exclusively Rick Steves clientele (how we found it also). Service was fast and friendly and they include olives on the table and limoncello after dinner. Chantecler's Trattoria Sorrento is a locals place, we were the only 4 americano's in the back of the restaurant. Before you even sit down there is a a side of olives waiting for you. This was a nice treat starting out. Next let me tell you about the bread. The bread was very fresh. It must of been cooked within the last two hours. My brother-in-law ate 3 pieces within 2 minutes. The house red wine is very good. We ordered a liter and polished it off. I recommend this as it is on 10 Euros. Being vegan, I ordered the minestrone soup. I the portion size was generous and the soup came out hot. note this was not listed on the menu, but the owner was very accommodating. The rest of our party ordered the fresh pasta dishes and Lemon Chicken with vegetables. The food arrived hot. The fresh pasta with spicy Marina sauce was flavorful. All of our plates were empty. Overall I give this place 4 stars for the quality of the food and reasonable prices. read more

We found this place by chance, while walking around town. It looked pleasant and remembered it when the weather turned, and we wanted to stay close to our B&B for dinner. What a wonderful find! Very friendly and helpful staff, and delicious food. The place was packed, and the experience was still high quality. The seasonal fresh asparagus starter may be one of the best asparagus dishes I've ever been served. So simple with butter and parmesan, but melt in your mouth and delicious. Cozy restaurant tucked away in one of Sorrento's small streets. We stumbled in around 9:30 on a weeknight and there were plenty of tables available in their two main dining rooms. We ordered a half carafe of wine, a bottle of water, a mussels appetizer, two seafood pasta dishes, tiramisu and a limoncello and spent around 40 euro. The seafood dishes all tasted fresh, and the pastas were big enough but not heavy at all. The tiramisu was delicious and the limoncello we ordered was provided free of charge. Although the staff was not too friendly, we had about 3 people taking care of us throughout the evening and could ask for whatever we needed. Would definitely go again for a casual night out in Sorrento. read more

So our first meal here would have earned them 4-5 stars because it was one of our favorite meals: delicious food with fun and friendly service at a reasonable price. We went back for more a couple nights later. It was quieter and service was slower. Gnocchi and clams lacked flavor and the fish while well cooked was also lacking flavor. Complimentary bruschetta was really tough with old tomatoes. When we asked for the bill the owner/manager offered us limoncello which we politely declined 3 times. My husband watched him start to pour us a shot and again insisted, no Grazie. Then he brought it to our table and went and grumpily sat down and ignored our request for the check. The limoncello had what appeared to be pepper in it and we had to wait another 15 min for the check from another server. Sadly despite our nice experience the first time I don't recommend this place due to rude service. read more

We stopped in for lunch to this quaint, authentic, local place. It is located in the alley just north of the downtown pedestrian walk in Sorrento. We were made to feel welcome and sat in the cozy surroundings. I had a wonderful chicken breast, covered in melted cheese with tomato sauce and fresh basil! YUM! A LITRE of wine cost a mere 8 euros, a fraction of the same thing 1 block over on the main street. The food is fresh, hot, fabulous. The service is better. Such a bummer. This was our first day in Italy and Rick Steves highly recommended this restaurant in his book. I really like Rick Steves, however, I really disliked this restaurant. We sat in the long stretch of tables outside, which was a really nice and quaint setting. However, I should have noticed that no one had any food in front of them. It took over 15 minutes for a waiter to come to our table. Against our better judgment we stayed. After we ordered it took over an hour for our food, which was incredibly mediocre. My daughter ordered the pasta with clam sauce, which was probably the best dish at the table. The clams were very small, but overall the flavor was pretty good. Not spectacular or memorable, but okay. I ordered the pasta with seafood and it was incredibly salty to the point of being borderline inedible. My husband ordered pasta with king prawns and lemon sauce. The prawns were sparse (and definitely not king) and the sauce was bland. Complete and total disappointment. Hoping this got our one bad meal out of the way and the rest will be great. read more

Luigi's grandmother originally bought the building and the family lives upstairs and works in the restaurant below. Luigi and his family are committed to buying local, fresh ingredients and ensuring customer satisfaction. They go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your meal. This restaurant doesn't get as many customers because it is off the beaten path and is tucked away in an alley that doesn't get as many pedestrians. But don't let the lack of customers fool you into thinking it's not good. I have to agree with a past review. Food id give more stars, but for the over all dining experience, three is all he gets. We showed up at 6:40pm (the kids were hungry). He told us to leave for twenty more minutes. .. didn't think it was a big deal, but if he needs to prep his mis en place for service, understandable. Came back 20 minutes later, and a single diner was already finishing her meal.... so much for not before 7! We got seated, he handed us the menus and said 'what are you ordering'. I asked for a few minutes to look, the kids went to the washroom - he came back 3 times and was frustrated we hadn't ordered promptly. Once we had eaten our plates were rushed away, inbetween plays of the soccer game... I felt like we were Interrupting. Onto the food. The bruschetta and tomatoes and basil was a nice touch on the house. Ordered the fish of the day ( under seasoned but perfectly cooked), the lasagna ( best id had in italy), and the mixed vegetables (each one cooked with the same attention as a steak) and Croquets. Seriously good food. Affordable carafs of wine. I thought the attitude was because we had three small children... but apparently not! No free lemoncella pepper shots for us! read more

I'm not sure how drunk everyone is who gave this place 5 stars. Had the house white, tasted like it was most definitely a few days old. My pasta was definitely from a box, like 100% positive. Not authentic at all. It was like I was at Olive Garden but at least there I would have gotten fee breadsticks. Two stars for one of the cleanest bathrooms I've seen. read more

We had a difficult time finding a good place to eat in Sorrento that wasn't either a tourist trap or a casual place with big TVs showing sports. So we consulted a Rick Steves guidebook and followed his advice to try Chantecler's Trattoria, which places many of its tables out in this narrow backstreet, which is actually very atmospheric, unfortunately the service was very slow, the waiter was gruff and unhelpful, and the food when it came was really very mediocre and not what we have been accustomed to in Italy. The only time the waiter paid us any real attention was when he hovered around our table immediately after we paid, as if to ensure we left a tip (which we generally do anyway, depending on the place and the level of attention we receive). Possibly we were just there on a bad night with someone substituting for the regular staff, but if not, I'd give this place a miss. We had a great experience eating at Chanteclers because of the great food, service and price. We were brought complimentary olives and bruschetta. The seafood tasted fresh and the pasta was home made. We were also given glasses of free limoncello. We were not rushed at the end the meal and we were able to sit and relax. read more
