I'd heard about Chapala Grill and finally dropped in for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised. Good, fresh quality ingredients prepared well, and we enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere - the place is unpretentious and friendly. Enchiladas Chapala were excellent. I ordered (take-out) Super Nachos with chile con carne and got sick after several bites. I was a loyal customer for many years. When I called to complain, it seemed like they didn't care and didn't even apologize. I explained to the manager, that I was a long-time customer and was calling just to inform them of the situation. Last year, I gotten sick from this place, but I thought it was just a fluke. Now, I'm wondering how they are really handling their food. They have lost a long-time customer! read more

My husband and I had lunch here recently and it's our new favorite Mexican restaurant. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is excellent. My husband was also impressed with the use of real steak in his burrito as mentioned by Franz. Fresh and authentic Mexican food at a reasonable price. They also have chicken fingers and fries on the children's menu for my son who is not yet a fan of Mexican food. The owner took the time to explain an old photo on the wall to us. Then Ignacio (the owner) gave us a complimentary slice of tres leches cake. To die for. I really cannot say enough about this restaurant and its staff. read more

I just went to Chapala Grill yesterday for lunch and not only was this restaurant beautiful inside, but the food was amazing. The prices are very reasonable for such high quality Mexican food. The Margarita was perfect. There are also daily lunch specials and drink specials. I'm looking forward to going there again for lunch or dinner this week and bringing friends. I only wish there was a way I could give no stars. The food was average and the service was the worst (guess myself and family weren't the right ethicity). 1st off we walked in and waited at least 10 minutes to be acknowledged. Then they act like there weren't any tables even though multiple were available. I mean this is New Windsor---not a big city by any means. When finally seated, waited again forever just to place a drink order. Meanwhile right across the aisle at the anglo saxon table that came in after me, the server was friendly, sniggling and giggling at everything said. After about another 8 minutes he finally thought to come back to take my drink order and deliver some stale chips and watery salsa. At this time I ordered my drinks and placed food orders for myself and 2 children. If I didn't, who knows when he would have made it back. After my order was received, he never came back again. Not to check to see if we had enough silverware, not to offer drink refills, or to even deliver the check for payment. I ended up having to stand and flag the server down to have the check brought over. However, he didn't even do that. He just motioned for me to meet him at the door where he rang up my check and quickly ushered us out of the door. So if Ricardo is reading this, and I hope that he is, the reason table 203 only gave you a $2 tip is because that was the worst service EVER. How you gonna be racist and your here on a green card???? Until tonight I would have said I enjoyed this place, even though it takes forever to get your check, but this is the second time that the owner was more than rude. The first time I let it slide because it was busy and I excused his behavior towards my mother. Tonight was worse! Our very nice waiter brought me & my husband our $30 check (based on a promotional coupon we had and discussed with him prior to ordering), however, the owner left with our credit card and came back with a new bill for $39.74. I was about to sign the slip when I saw it was changed. The owner didn't come over and explain the problem, he just made a new receipt and charged my credit card the extra money. We called him over and explained what we were told by our waiter and he said the waiter gave us incorrect information. Ok, well that isn't really our fault....we wouldn't have ordered what we ordered if it wasn't part of the deal and we were told it was. After a few minutes the owner marches away from the table and comes back and drops $7 on the table with an attitude. We are very mild mannered people and didn't appreciate being treated that way. We are regular customers but we had the worst experience tonight at chapala grill. The waiters gave us dirty looks upon entering and were rude throughout. The service was extremely slow and our waiter didn't even check on us throughout our dinner. We had to ask for refills and for the check because we felt so neglected. Upon reviewing the check, there was a 7$ "tip" added onto the bill. It was just me and my husband so it couldn't have been a fee for a large party. When I asked about the 7$ fee that was rudely added onto the bill like I wouldn't notice, the manager accused us of never tipping, so he decided to add 7$ to the bill. Now, we have been regulars since it opened and have tipped every time we have gone. The nerve of the manager to accuse us for never tipping and illegally adding on arbitrary amounts he demands me to pay!!!! I've never been so disrespected by a restaurant ever. Take your business elsewhere and make sure to double check your bill for a fee that could've been snuck on there! read more

This restaurant use to be my favorite place to go. The last few times the service was so bad we waited over a half hour just to get our drinks and even longer to place our order. This last time there was nobody at the restaurant yet so we were the only table of 8 and mostly kids. Several minutes later 2 more tables came in. The owner/server still hadnr come to our table and went straight to a table of guys that came in, he took their drink order and appetizers. Now pushing 30 minutes he comes to our table to get drinks and appetizers then leaves. He then goes back to other table takes their order and moves to another table. We stopped and told him we were ready to order and he brushed us off. The table of men got their food then,he comes back to take our order. When I question him as to why he didn't take our order since we have been here the longest and to top it off the only table with kids who have a limited of time to behave at a restaurant. He got really nasty and said you don't want me to take the others table order and continued getting nasty. Never apologized or anything. I have been going there so,'s it opened and I am,very disappointed. I will never take my family back there again. Especially being he was the owner, that is not how you talk to customers or keep them. read more

Well I have to say I was disappointed with the service tonight. I went to Chapala for the first time about 2 weeks ago and thought it was great, from food to service. I bragged about it to my Sister and Brother in law and was excited to go with them. We decided to go tonight. I know it is Sunday the day before Memorial Day but they were severly understaffed. It was not even that busy but we had 3 different people come to the table about 15 to 20 minutes apart. We had tro flag them down on to get a refill for a drink which never came. I love the food but the rice was cold. One of the waiters that came to our table was rushing so much that we were asking him for something and he was walking away while still talking to us. I see in other reviews if anything is wrong at Chapala it is the service, I saw why myself tonight. I hope they take these reviews and learn from them, I know it will be a while before I brag or go back. Again food good service pretty bad. read more

fraud & worst experience ever!!! beware.....beware!!!!! the waiter we had (ignacio) didnt get our order right, bought only half the food out which was cold...my friend didnt even get to eat because she was waiting on a burrito for 40 minutes. when asked where the rest of the food was we found out that they had delivered it to the wrong table and that table was complaining that they did not order it and all the waiter (who is also the owner) did was give excuses! he then tried to add 3 additional meals to our table stating that was what we asked for!!! when asking for the check, it took him 10 min to get it to us and then when we tried to pay with our credit cards (separate checks) he charged all of us a higher amount than what our checks said (i was charged $15 for a bill that said $13.19)!!!! when confronted with why all of our cards were charged a different amount than on the receipt...he stalled said we didnt get charged a different amount and when he became flustered by us asking this he said that if we didnt like it "we could all get the f*@& out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope no one eats at this place! the owner clearly doesn't care about anything except the money and he will do anything to get it! he is not worthy of our patronage!!!!! stay away from this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more
