HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We had the best time here last night. Came in a little later so we could enjoy the evening ambience in the neighborhood. First off let me say the staff is incredible. Super friendly and attentive. Dining at Char is definitely an experience- not to be missed. A couple of my favorite items include the Kimchi Mac & Cheese, the Bulgoggi. The cocktails here are fabulous too. The manager even walks around and asks you how your dining experience was, and I love that! I visited this restaurant on a busy Friday evening. It was relatively easy to get a seat due to their plenty seating availability. The ambience was really nice. A great place to go on a Friday evening for a hustle bustle experience. The drinks were phenomenal. They had our favorite lucky budha beer and their whiskey sour was to die for. Nice experience. Food was good; if you order the grill option, you get to make it yourself. I ordered the marinated short rib as my main course that came with a side of white rice, but also order the sticky chicken and wontons as an appetizer. Very good options. My friend and I went to Char on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch and we had a great experience. Upon arrival, if you don't live in the neighborhood and have to drive there, you will have to search and pay for street parking. Or park in the garage next to the restaurant which is where we parked. It is $7 for the first two hours. When walked to the restaurant, we walked up to the hostess and was immediately seated. The restaurant is kind of small with some indoor and some outdoor seating (heated lamps for outdoor seating in the winter) but during busy times it may be useful to book a reservation. Also, they do have a bar, cute decor with great music inside! When ordering drinks, I originally asked for a mimosa (as they do have a separate brunch menu on Sunday afternoons) but unfortunately they were out of champagne. So that sucked. I resulted to asking for a recommendation and which he was able to share what were the top ordered drinks from the bartender. Which led me to the Gangsta's Paradise drink which was pretty good. Now for the food. Obviously at a place with a Korean grill, you typically want to grill something. But we went a different direction mainly because getting on type of meat on the grill with sauce and rice was at least $22. And if we got a combo, it would be $40 pp to share. And we wanted some more variety than the lunch menu. So I went with the appetizer sampler which was really good. Especially the kimchi dumplings. This is so far from Korean it is painful. My Korean wife and I came here after an event and was beyond disappointed. The kimchi is horrible and the Kimchi fried rice follows right behind it. The Korean fried chicken is boiled and the sauce is not even Korean. I have no clue where in the world this owner came up with these recipes but he needs to take a drive to Duluth and learn how to cook. I mean how can you have soju and no Korean beer!!! read more

Brought colleagues from work here who were craving Korean BBQ. There is a parking garage in the alley next to this restaurant so it's easy to get settled in. This is a modernized take on Korean BBQ. Fancy decor, meat quality is very high- but there is little to no banchon (side dishes) and it's gas versus charcoal- so there is a difference IMO. Our service was excellent. Everyone was pleased, I ordered for the table (group of ten) and we had 2 appetizer sampler platters to start. 3 Kim chee dumplings, 3 beef dumplings, 3 beef meatballs, and 3 Korean Deviled egg halves, with sides of kim chee and pickled radishes. People got to taste different things and it went over well. For the table I ordered entrees and not the AYCE. I wanted them to have quality, not quantity. I started with two orders of Chicken (one spicy and one soy marinated). 2 orders of beef tenderloin for each side of the table (two grills for ten people), and finally 2 orders of the Kalbi- marinated short ribs. That's the Cadillac of the experience, so I made sure we had that. As for sides, I got two kim chee fried rice, one order of cucumber salad (which was the hero of all the meal, because I LOVE CUCUMBERS PREPPED THUS WAY). They had many offerings when it came to sauces. People loved the salty ssam Jang, as well as the soy garlic. Cucumber sliced thin and picked like Kim chee is also a personal favorite and lots of our team loved it all. The only negative is not having any banchon, and the prices are indicative of being in Inman Park/Midtown. Entertaining customers is good here but for traditionalists this probably isn't for you. Eh. Came here for dinner with my wife on a Wednesday. The place was nearly empty while others in Inman Park had considerable crowds for what that's worth. Still, we wanted KBBQ and this was our closest option. The food is very okay. Japchae was flavorless overly oily, and the pork belly add was sliced thinly to the point where it was a bit dry. Mandu were solid, but the dipping sauce was mostly oil. Garlic shrimp and marinated ribeye were unremarkable but decent quality. I don't mind grilling my own items, so that gave us control over cooking temperature that I enjoy. Banchan offerings were LIGHT - while we could have asked for more I'm sure, 3 pieces of kimchi and 6 pieces of diced daikon was odd. Rice was NOT dry as cited in other reviews, so that was nice. Despite the side of the restaurant being completely open air, once some other tables started to grill this place FILLED with smoke. I'm lucky to have eaten at many KBBQ establishments across the country, this is uncommon and uncomfortable. Service was prompt and friendly. Seating was comfortable. Clientele were as expected for the area. Value for the dollar was decent given the volume of protein served. 3/5. Not terrible, but I probably would not return. read more

Especially if you are unsure about eating Korean food, this is a perfect beginner because it was not too intimidating and you can prepare to meet yourself as well as at the flavors do you like opposed to worrying about it being too spicy or too flavorful. A great atmosphere in the evening and night. Try dining on the outdoor porch to feel a part of the community. If it is more than one of you you certainly will need more than 3 ounces of meat try 2 to 3 varieties on the grill. The best item on the menu are the beef kimchi dumplings. First clue should have been that the place was empty-Inman Park on a Thursday night?!?! The service was great but the food was just awful. We ordered their waygu beef Korean BBQ platter. Came with soup, salad, and banchan (sides) Miso soup was bland and the salad was drenched in a super salty vinaigrette. The beef-no way any of it was waygu!!! My grocery store has better quality meat. Waygu should be flavorful and tender-you don't need to cook past medium rare. But they serve us low grade beef that had to be cooked to medium well just to chew it...for $115. The sauces were bland. This is my second time eating there and I just keep getting disappointed. It's sooo small in there even with the windows open and half a wall missing it's incredibly hot in there. We were definitely sweating from the grill heat but also spacing. I met some friends there and I don't eat so figured I could get something else off the menu. There was only one dish I could get, it was this extremely spicy shrimp. In this day and age we tend to write reviews about the bad. Let me be honest and completely clear. I'm not a food critic just fat and enjoy good food. Whoever the owner operator is has done their due diligence with picking a top tier leadership. I don't know exactly who our server was because at every moment a full team attended to giving us exceptional genuine service. From teaching us about the menu to suggesting drinks and wine pairing. The music, vibe, crowd and energy was electric. Definitely a solid mix of in the city and feeling at home and comfortable. This establishment is definitely a lot more than fresh quality food... it's a welcoming vibe. You would do yourself a great disservice if you didn't seek out Kristin,Amanda,Bailey or Evan. This was a recommendation from several people for bunch so we decided to give it a go. We sat out on the patio and it was nice although the placement wasn't that great. Over the hosted was nice and the waiter was good. I had the bottomless for $20 bucks it was ok nothing to spectacular. I had the Cauliflower Bibimbamp Bowl it came out piping hot and ready to be eaten. I will say personally i could have used a little more spice and a little less sweet. The cauliflower in the bowl was crispy and it was just what the dish need for texture. Overall great dish and would get it again My daughter ordered the Bulgogi Bowl she stated she like the dish but wish it had a little more ribeye in the bowl. Such a fun vibe! Char is a hidden gem in Inman park. The Korean BBQ has delicious food as well as fun takes on classics. They have brunch(bottomless mimosas for $15), lunch, and dinner. First review of the new year, starting off fabulously. Char Korean Bar & Grill is located in a pretty bustling part of Midtown. Bartaco, BeetleCat, and many more are located around the same area. Has a very dive vibe, while keeping a similar aesthetic when it comes to Korean BBQ with the vents and grill. Parking can be tricky, but there's an obvious easy choice, which is the parking garage. You can get free parking on the streets in front of the spot, but it's limited. No parking validation, sadly. Prices range from $10 to around $100 in terms of what you can choose from. There's a few more pricey options, but I'll leave that up to others. Seating is usually for 2 to 4 people, parties of larger sizes may have some trouble getting seated. Especially if it gets busy. There is seating at the bar, if that's your fancy. Took my family of 5 to get lunch. From the Korean Street Sandwich to Crying Tiger Steam, Wagyu Steak to the Baos, everything came out fresh and hot. Taste was great, couldn't really ask for more given the style of food. Highly recommend to try whatever sounds good to you. Our waiter Justin was also amazing. Attentive and always made sure to check on us if we needed anything else. Overall this is a great spot for casual outings or even an intimate night out. It is usually an open air space, so bring a coat or jacket if the weather calls for one. They have a couple of space heaters for those that like to sit outside. My girlfriend and I came here for a girls night and had a great time. Parking is free along the street but there is a garage as well, I found parking along the street so I can't speak for a garage fee. The restaurant itself is pretty small, but it does have a dynamic indoor/outdoor area that. is stylish and modern. I called earlier in the day and spoke to Ian(?) with a few questions before our arrival later that day. He was very kind and and informative. We initially sat at the bar (bar over table, fight me) but took a table in order to actually grill our food. I think our server's name was Chet, he was very helpful with a touch a humor, and very informative on the menu and its important points. I do not eat meat and advised our server, he made sure to point out the items that had a "meat base" although not necessary listed on the menu, I was super grateful for his attention to detail and menu knowledge. Honestly, this is the priciest Korean BBQ in Atlanta I have experienced, but the taste did not justify the pricing. I had the green bean tempura and the street corn, the portions were large, but the food was just "O-K." My best had the sticky chicken wraps, she stated the sauce was really good and the rice was cooked well, but it the chicken itself wasn't "wonderful." This place is not bad if you specifically want this cuisine and are in the area, but there are a few other better priced options, definitely "bigger bang for your buck." +1 star for ambiance... came here in January. took well over an hour for someone to finally turn our grill on. we had to seek someone out for water refills, since nobody came to check on us. food was mid- meats are NOT marinated, so keep that in mind. the korean fried chicken is not actually korean style fried chicken- they're fine but not at all what was advertised. Best menu item was the wagyu. One of the maybe two times we were able to speak to our waitress (mind you, the restaurant was dead) she was rude- almost challenging us when we told her the menu said dessert came with ice cream? she was like "no it doesn't let me see the menu"...and when proven wrong she didn't apologize? it was weird. we left hungry. nearly $300 down the drain. Honestly I should've asked for stuff to be comped considering how surprisingly DREADFUL the service was.
