Decided to go with something unique, the Bulgogi Philly Cheese Dog: It's a heavy meal and full of meat and spicy Mayo . The bulgogi meat was delicious, but the saltiness from the salty beef hot dog overpowered the yummy flavors. Perhaps a less salty hot dog like Filipino red hotdog would have been a better choice. To the management of the Umbrella Bar: Is it the policy that even guests who wish to sit at the bar and have food and drinks must order at the register? My boyfriend and I sat down at the bar last night around 6:45, four seats away from the register, and the bartender--who was standing directly in front of us--never looked up from the prep work he was doing to greet us. After several minutes I greeted him cheerily to ask if we could order. He said curtly, "You have to order at the register." Thinking he must have misunderstood something, I said, "Even if we're planning to sit at the bar and have food and drinks?" He told us again to "order at the register." He actually said, "I'm the only one here." We looked around, and it was just us and two other couples. We left, which was a major bummer because I was taking my boyfriend there on what I thought would be a fun date. We were both really excited to try the food and the drinks. Instead, we left confused about why we were treated so rudely by the employee. The whole situation made us feel kind of sad. I tip well, since I used to work in restaurants, and there is a lot of competition for people's hard-earned dollars, so why a mostly empty business would be scaring off paying customers makes no sense. P.S. We saw the bartender tell another couple they had to order at the register, but we thought maybe they were just getting food to go. They left too, instead of ordering. We later saw them sitting at the same busy restaurant we ended up going to instead. If that bartender had been even a little bit welcoming and kind to us, we would have gotten up and ordered, even though we still would have been confused about the setup. You can order your drinks and food together at the register (would recommend the bulgogi tots), but they come out on opposite sides (drink from the bar, food from the station across). Alcoholic drinks can't have a lid, despite them being served in plastic cups, so i would recommend sitting at the bar to drink them so they don't spill. read more

I love great Korean style comfort foods, however, we noticed something tonight that I have never noticed before. Firstly, we don't stop here for drinks at the "Bar" we stop here for well made korean food. We just happened to be in Seoul last summer with my korean family. My dad ordered the shrimp skewers that came in a togo box with no skewer in sight. My son had the korean fried chicken. While it had great taste, it almost felt like it came from somewhere else! My wife had her favorite the Bulgogi tots! They were good, but the bulgogi lacked its normal flavor. Then there was the gimbap/kimbap. There are several places I enjoy buying this classic korean dish. If you are interested, HMart Doraville, back by the kimchi section near the checkout, or the little food stall closest to the Tous Le Jour Bakery, Harue cafe in the same shopping center has the best gimbap in Atlanta. WHY! would I spend $13.00 for you to cut the very ends off each side and watch you throw the best part of the gimbap roll in the garbage! Any Korean person knows that the ends of the roll, even though it is not the most pretty part, is the best part of the gimbap! I thoroughly enjoyed eating at this restaurant while on a trip to atlanta. We went into the shopping center for a specific store and happened upon this restaurant. It was in an area with several of their different Asian inspired places. I ordered the steak bibimbap and my sister ordered the panko chicken. The guy at the counter recommended the steak and it was really good. The flavor was great the food was hot and the sauce was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed eating here and would recommend anyone else go as well. The only thing that I really hate it while I was there where the bugs. There were several flies and gnats that were in the area while we were eating and made our experience A Little Less Pleasant. The woman behind the bar came over to us and didn't say, "hello", or "welcome", or indicate in any way that she was happy to have paying customers. Instead, she told us that we were sitting too far away from her register for her to serve us. We were a little taken aback, but waited for her to come back so that we could inquire about this. After about 5 minutes she came back and once again told us we were too far from her register to serve us. She wanted us to move into two seats that were in between other customers and closer to her register. Well, we had selected the two seats at the end because I have reduced hearing and find it difficult to have a conversation in packed areas. We opted to leave. If she was too lazy to walk an extra 8 steps to serve us, we could take our business elsewhere and did. The Jai Szechuan bar just a few doors down was happy to have our business. The seats we were sitting on in the Umbrella Bar can be seen from this picture. My question to Umbrella Bar would be... if where we were sitting (the location from where this picture was taken) is too distressingly far for employees to possibly walk to... why are there stools there in the first place? I saw Thai Tea on the menu and even though that wasn't what I was initially looking for I had to try it because I love Thai tea and it was only $4. My friend that I wanted to grab a quick bite to eat while we were walking around the market. The place looks interesting based on the fries sides we could see displayed in their glass shelves. Boy, we're we happy we came here. We liked everything we ordered including the Korean corn dog with sugar topped with ketchup and mustard. It had a perfectly cheese pull that I wish I captured on camera. The bulgogi kimbap was good but definitely would have benefited from a dipping sauce as it was a bit dry. The beef skewers were flavored beautifully with garlic, lemon grass, and sauces. Korean fried chicken bites were sweet, spicy, and crunchy. Overall, a highly recommended place to come to when exploring all there is to offer. One of the menu items that packs the most wow factor (and the ones that appear the most across social media) is the "KDog". Korean hot dogs have been around for ages but they've only started gaining traction as a stateside phenomenon in recent years. They may look like American corn dogs because of the stick and the swim through the fryer, but the similarities end there. For one, there's a generous panko breading, which boosts the resulting crunch factor by a satisfying septillion. They seemed to be the most popular order, so much that when I returned with my husband the next day, they sold out shortly after noon. I once got a chance to sit by the bar, and noticed that they added the extra prepwork of pre-grilling the hot dogs before building on the coating. I'm not sure if that did anything for the flavor, but I was impressed with the extra mile nonetheless. This is where I need to regrettably confess that as a pescatarian, I can't provide a report of these deep fried hot dogs. But once we got this tall, lovely potato swizzle in our hands, we weren't really complaining. I know that drizzle looks like ketchup, but it's a sweet and spicy variety that creates an IYKYK moment for all those readers who are familiar with authentic Korean street food. There, most sauces tend to straddle the fence between sugar and spice (as does most things that are nice). When it first came out of the fryer, I was in potato heaven. The spiral cut must have created ample surfaces area for the hot oil to crispify the cut potato, because the first bites crunched loudly under my teeth. Within minutes, I regretted ordering only one for my friend and I to share. Thanks to Covid fostering the germaphobe in all of us, we tore delicately from either end with our fingers...which took more time to eat, and eventually allowed the leftover potato to soften past its initial deliciousness. It was still tasty, but our last bites failed against the memory of the fryer-fresh bites. My surprising favorite of the bunch were these japchae dumplings. By looks alone, these might seem underwhelming. Japchae is a vermicelli noodle dish that typically has mixed julienned vegetables and a seasoning redolent of soy sauce and sesame oil. Here, small spoonfuls of that noodle dish are stuffed inside flat dumplings, deep fried, and served with a seasoned soy sauce for dipping. On opening day, the kitchen churned these out a dizzying clip, so we got to have our order emerge straight out of the fryer. If you're lucky enough to enjoy the same experience, prepare for some dazzling texture and flavor. These dumpling skins shattered under our teeth and each bite revealed more of the well-seasoned japchae noodle filling within. Theoretically, I know it's noodles inside a dumpling wrapper, which just sounds like carbs on carbs. But trust me when I say that it's better than you think. On a whim, we also ordered the bibimbap, a mixed rice bowl with a sweet-spicy sauce and a fried egg. The fried tofu that we requested for our bibimbap was unreal. It had a coating that was impossibly thin and airy, yet managed to stubbornly cling to all corners of the tofu cubes so that each bite remained beautifully crispy, even after being coated with the sauce. Speaking of the sauce, Umbrella Bar is clearly looking to remain authentic in more ways than one, because they definitely didn't hold back on the spice level. As a lover of nearly masochistic levels of spice, I loved it, but James ended up coughing back a few bites, so if you're a spice baby, consider requesting the sauce on the side. read more

You can walk right past this spot and think nothing is happening but you'll be pleasantly surprised if you slow down and bit and look up. My family and I finally experienced this awesome bar with an on-the-go food spot while out with the family. It is a bit a the pricier end for families of small children, but still enough portions to share family style. Party of 3 (2 adults and 1 child) 2 sides 2 bibimbap 1 Krog 2 alcoholic drinks The food came out fresh, and hot and we left satisfied. I personally enjoyed the crispy spam bibimbap made with a bowl of stickier rice, and the sauce ties it all in for an authentic bite. Important to Note: It took about 15-20 minutes because they are rather popular, and located right in the middle of the new wing of PCM. Their portions are perfect for a person grabbing lunch or enjoying with a group, but seating might be limited. I was there earlier this evening and had a horrible experience with one of your staff members. We were asked for our drink orders twice and never made them. She would ask us what we wanted and then would immediately walk away and start helping other people and making their drinks instead of ours. She wouldn't take my out of state ID even though this same ID has been used several times in the state of Georgia beforehand. Was overall a rude worker and was not helpful in any way. The Umbrella Bar is a solid choice given all the other opens available within the same complex. I really wanted some kimbop, so that was a deciding factor in my choosing this place. I got KFC, bulgogi kimbop, and a chicken bibimbop bowl. The price for kimbop is a bit steep, but I really wanted it. I was served about 15 minutes after ordering. I will admit, riding was a bit confusing -- but the staff was helpful to call my group over. The KFC was good. The sauce was delicious, but it didn't come with sesame seeds like I'm seeing in some of the yelp photos. The kimbop was good. They served me the wrong one originally however. The chicken bowl was good. I will say, there wasn't much chicken at all -- at least the rice ratio is way touch compared to the chicken and pickled radish you get, but the flavors were there. read more
