I got the brisket nachos and the brisket was very good. I recommend. My only comment about it was not hot enough like it was just lukewarm except for the brisket which was hot. Needed to be heated under the broiler. A thing I'm still in shock over, they charged 75 cents a piece for water, how chinchy can ya get! Never have been charged for water before. Menu stated the burger came with your choice of a side. So, ordered a burger and fries only to find out there was an extra charge for the fries! The menu states the burgers came with a choice of a side. And then you have to pay extra for the side/fries. Not to mention nothing special about said fries either. Not hand cut, came straight out the plastic bulk freezer bag of fries. With that the staff is friendly, but couldn't understand my problem with paying extra for something the menus states is included with the meal. read more

The first time for a visit at this place. Seems to be a local favorite as its busy during lunch time. Me and one other ordered the same meals, a lunch chicken fried steak. They showed up different with one looking to be two pieces and the other a larger one piece meal. No biggie. The lunch price being 10.49. This gets you mashed potatoes and toast. Well I ate my meal, the large fried steak. My buddy ate a few bites and found hair in the meat. A round curly hair was embedded into the meat. He couldn't eat his meal. Waiter asked what was wrong and we explained. He said hold on and claimed we got a discount however the total was exactly the same at over $24 for both lunch meals. Long story short nothing was done. This is how word spreads and restaurants can quickly have customers lose confidence in getting a good meal. Guess we won't be back or recommend it. read more

Just "Wow"! I'm usually a tough critic but the late dinner we had from here last night was phenomenal. We stay at the motel behind this great place whenever we're in town doing business with several clients here in Waldron. I've eaten at JR's several times in the past and don't remember it ever being this good. They've obviously made some internal changes and tweaked some recipes in the last year, or maybe replaced a mediocre kitchen staff with a really good one. Whatever changes they made, it worked. Do not short change your experience by passing on dessert. The Possum Pie should be a controlled substance. *UPDATE* Day two, still friggin' awesome. Got the Brisket salad because I wanted something light. The joke was on me. I couldn't finish it no matter how much I wanted to. It's hard to give stars to a place with such inconsistency as we have experienced with this restaurant. The first time we went 5+ stars. Great food, excellent service. Very enjoyable. Today was a different story. I ordered a medium rib eye steak, my husband ordered the same and my son ordered a medium rare rib eye. We were told they had no rib eyes so we were getting up to leave. All the sudden they had rib eyes again. Well we got a "rib eye steak" that was more like a top sirloin and mine was rare. Very very rare. Sent it back and got the exact same steak I had before that had been cut down the middle with a chunk out. The steak was charred on the outside, dry, and still not medium. My sons steak tasted like lighter fluid half way through and he was unable to eat any more of it. Absolutely disappointed to spend that kind of money on such bad to mediocre food. read more

It's a diner so we order the requisite country fried steak and it was served piping hot with a big mound of mashed potatos and gravy and a piece of toast. Good, stick to your ribs food. First off, the entry, dining space, and bathrooms are very clean and well kept! Secondly, the staff is efficient, kind, and gave great recommendations on favorites. Stopped in on a whim while driving through around lunch, and so glad I did. I got the chicken melt after the waitress recommended it, which was quick and seriously delicious...simple but so flavorful and moist. Seems okay. Nothing special. Had a chicken fried steak lunch. It appeared to be a prebattered frozen patty. Accompanied by mashed potatoes, white gravy and Texas toast. No salad. They need something green to round the offering out. String or green beans would be nice. All told the price is on par with McDonalds next door for a lunch. The ambiance is nicer though. TV playing in the corner with sound off. Would be nice if it was the news instead of daytime women's talk shows. Service is kinda spotty. Granted it was a late lunch....still. My order was a 16 oz Rib-eye, grilled medium, baked potato with sour cream & butter, onion rings & an order of fried okra. I arrived early and waited at the window. I finally got the order in 2 large to-go boxes & paid $35. and change plus a $2.00 tip to the young girl who waited on me. I also asked for a To-Go Menu & was told they didn't have any:( This steak was thicker and looked more like a NY strip cut, potato was room temperature & hard, my own real butter wouldn't melt, which told me it was not cooked in a regular oven but microwaved unlike before:( Canned corn in a small to-go container which I didn't order or want:(, onion rings were good as well as the okra:) Had they included a buttered corn-on-the-cob, that would've impressed me more. No Brownie points for canned corn. The medium steak...was tough, good flavor in spite of the fact it was over cooked:( Half way through my steak I finally got to the medium which was only 2-3 bites. 1 not so good review out of 3 visits total. I recommend the smaller rib-eye which I had ordered before. My leftover steak which was 4 more bites...I held over, stuck it in my slow cooker with a beef roast & gravy. Nothing wasted. Will I visit again? Sure, I figured that this experience was probably due to a different busy cook or just an older tough cow. Service, ok. Price, $35.00 & change & tip, pricey for a tough, over-cooked steak, a room temperature baked potato that wouldn't melt butter, and a canned corn I didn't want or order.
