We have eaten here several times while traveling and purposely stopped here because it is a great restaurant. We always get grilled pork chops served over sourkraut. It is an amazing entree with the most unusual flavor. Other menu choices would be just as delicious as shown by the faithful local crowd of customers who are always there. Service here is very fast and friendly. The interior of the restaurant is quite clever and Country Music being piped in completes the western theme making for a pleasant atmosphere. The food is acceptable. You have to pick your steak or it may be a 1/2" steak. My steak was not medium well. My wife had Italian food. The pasta was sticky and the sauce. We ordered wine and you would think it was the first time the server and bartender had ever dealt with wine. We explained what white wine and red wine goes with what meals. My family and I went here while on our yearly vacation the the Mena Rod Run. We had a party of 15 and they easily accomadated us. Our server, Misty, was absolutely the best! She was a joy to have, made sure our order was on time and just right, made sure our drinks never ran dry. The food was amazing as well, from the ribeye to the fried pork chops to the fish, it was all so yummy! For all of the folks who slight this place, let's be real here, we aren't exactly talking big city glamor when we talk about Mena, AR. Ate there for dinner while visiting town for work. Immediate seating, lodge type atmosphere. Ordered the large NY Strip with fries and broccoli. Strip was done just to my liking and was a great cut. I made a reservation ahead of time for the Saturday night prior to our arrival for the 2024 April 8th solar eclipse in Mena, AR. We were MORE than pleasantly surprised when we we'greeted by our hostess Jules and were directed to our table that was personally decorated just for us for the solar eclipse visit! . The Chopping Block is an excellent restaurant, and I make a point of visiting often. I'd put their steaks up against a lot of great steakhouses back home in Texas as well as across the country. The kitchen staff definitely know what they're doing. Apart from the steaks, we've tried many of the entrees on the menu, and they all are excellent. We ordered a large variety of food. Crab legs, steak, salads, chicken Alfredo, chicken strips, etc. EVERYTHING was amazing. The mashed potatoes and gravy were phenomenal as well as the Alfredo. We are a pretty picky family so our order can sometimes be on the complicated side. Our waiter was new and did an excellent job. Everything was correct and came out in a timely manner. Prices were fair as well. We finished off with some of the Oreo pie and turtle pie and they were hands down the best dessert we've had. Cannot say enough good things about this beautiful restaurant! Getting to Mena is no joke, but I have family here and therefore, have been frequenting the Chopping Block for years. Not only are the accommodating, they have solid, fast service and reliable food. Mena is in a Dry County, but you can enjoy an alcoholic beverage at Chopping Block, which is another plus! In my most recent visits, I got to taste a variety of food. The salad is a great starter, good dressing and portion! The first entree I tried was the "jumbo" shrimp. There was absolutely nothing "jumbo" about them, but it was a large portion - two very full skewers. I didn't particularly care for the rice but the shrimp and broccoli were more than filling. At my next visit, I was urged to try the gumbo. Being Cajun myself, I'm a tough gumbo critic, and didn't have a good feeling about Arkansas being able to replicate it's neighbor's style of cooking. Instead of committing to a full bowl, I had a cup prior to my entree. It was good...soup. Tomato broth (the nerve!), maybe the same wild rice (?), and A for effort with the Okra. Not gumbo. Okay soup. They did however, surprise me with their Alfredo! I had a taste for pasta and ordered the Alfredo. It came with mushrooms and broccoli (my faves!). The sauce was just absolute perfection - and I make a mean alfredo! Overall - a great, cozy place to come to when in Mena. Much better than the chains. read more

This place is really good! We are on a road trip from San Diego, CA. We spent couple days in Mena hiking and enjoying nature. For dinner we wanted something filling and good. First off the staff is really friendly and on top of their game. The food was amazing. I had an angus burger customized to the T. Mushroom, bacon, Swiss, chipotle mayo, no onions, and topped with SAUERKRAUTS!!! I also ordered my fries loaded and they were delicious. My husband ordered the French dip sandwich and home fries and he loved it too. Now for dessert we ordered the Turtle Cheesecake and split it. It was recommended by our server Britney! Holy schnikes. Worst. Restaurant. Ever. How is this place still open? We took the talimena scenic drive and ran into this place. Decided to stop and eat. Arrived around 3:20ish. Should have run when I saw employees wearing sweatpants. Trash. Waited for them to clear a table. Finally got to order. My husband tried to order the prime rib. The waitress said they haven't had any for weeks. Guess they aren't paying their vendors either. Then he ordered the porterhouse. The waitress comes back 10 minutes later to say they don't have that either. So we settled on two orders of catfish and a cheese burger for our party. Easy peasy or so we thought. An hour later no food and two pissed off 3 year olds we bounce. Stop at the front to say we'd pay for the two house salads and one unsweet tea. This dingbat had the AUDACITY to charge $15.55 for that garbage. Don't walk, run from this nasty dumpster fire. Next time I'll read the reviews before going in. Meh. Got the catfish and hush puppies lunch special. My side of broccoli was the best part. The hush puppies were almost black, tiny and rock hard. Very small portion of catfish with no flavor. My husband's patty melt was decent. The waitress was very sweet and accommodating. She replaced my catfish with a pulled pork sandwich. It was decent also. Gave us a free piece of pie for our troubles, which we appreciated. Looking at the reviews on Yelp we should have gone to another restaurant for our one meal out on vacation. We went to this restaurant after having been away for 2 years because of CoVid. The waiter seemed to be totally unsure of the menu. We ordered the Texas toothpick appetizer and ordered Blue cheese instead of ranch. He informed us that was a good choice because the ranch is a little 'off'. Really, if it is off take it OFF the days menu. When our appetizer arrived it was onion straws without jalapeños. When we informed waiter that it was wrong he brought us a menu and when we pointed out the description he said he would o form the chef. He returned and told us that the Texas toothpicks were now just onions. We asked to see a manager while waiting for our check. The manager informed us the Texas toothpicks did have jalapeños and wanted to get us an order to take with us. We are in a hotel! What would we do with them. No offer to remove the charge from the bill. We ordered a full rack of ribs and chicken fried steak. The ribs were good but the chicken fried steak was tasteless. We come to Mena every couple of months to visit the grand kids and every time we take the whole group out (7 adults and 7 children). We were planning on bringing the whole group tomorrow for steaks which is why we didn't order steak tonight. We have chosen a different restaurant and now plan on never returning to this one. read more
