Went for an oil change and ask to have the tires rotated as well. Oil change price was a little expensive and I get it with the rents in our neighborhood, but I was charged an additional $70 for the tire rotation. That is ridiculous overcharge for what takes less than 10 minutes. Mavis charges less for the oil change and includes the tire rotation with the price of the oil change. All in all comparison it's $100 cheaper at Mavis. I'll never return to chariot read more

I brought my car to Chariot after they identified what they said was a transmission oil leak. They diagnosed the issue as a faulty oil pan, and I paid to have it replaced. Unfortunately, that was not the actual source of the leak. Because the real issue went unaddressed, my car lost transmission oil again shortly afterward, leading to repeated breakdowns and ultimately a complete transmission failure. I now need a full transmission replacement costing several thousand dollars, and Chariot has offered no meaningful help or accountability. I'm extremely disappointed with the misdiagnosis and the financial impact it caused. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this shop. read more

Listen, I'm not one to leave bad reviews but after spending nearly $1000 after 3 visits to get my checked engine light fix and STILL not have the problem resolved, then I need to say something. The vibe here is "I don't really care about your car. Just pay the invoice and leave. Do a better job at properly explaining the work that was done, and the issue you tried to resolve because I left more confused than when I got there. I'm highly disappointed. Chariot to the rescue! While driving home from work in Jersey City to Westchester our muffler fell and was scrapping the pavement! There was no way to continue to drive home and being stranded in Jersey was not an option. Luckily Chariot was able to get a part and get the muffler fixed as my husband waited!!! The owner is an amazing human. He's has a good heart and is incredibly knowledgeable in his field. His associates are all extremely kind and the shop is ALWAYS busy (I live a few blocks away and pass it everyday). I'm going to have to retract my original review I gave him. Yes he was very welcoming when I first moved into the neighborhood. I used to love living in the neighborhood except when I as a medically disabled Veteran had an issue that affected them and the other neighbors tried to help by proxy they lashed out at them. I was both surprised and disappointed, as were my neighbors. It threw off the neighborhood dynamic and animosity was set in all of which was unnecessary. When one of those neighbors asked Ricky to take a look at some work he had done on a vehicle because something wasn't right all hell broke loose. His wife got in the neighbors face and said "you people .... this you people that....." I'm not going to fill in exactly what was said just putting in the you people part. My neighbors husband had to come out and put a stop to it. That is who you are dealing with. The vehicle still wasn't looked at in the end. The neighbors vehicle gets blocked in with giant tire racks full of tires and huge car jacks within inches of his newer SUV and when confronted Ricky makes excuses ..... there is video of this. He could put it elsewhere he has the room but he doesn't care it's Ricky first then everyone else. I've witnessed many customers come back over and over again for the same problem, I saw a guy come back for his A/C 3 times before he decided to stop I'm not going to say his name. I personally chatted with him about his truck and he told me he will never take his vehicle to Ricky again. When I first moved in the neighborhood the hammer was his favorite tool he would hammer everything out. You have to understand it was a newer garage then. He is still learning to be a mechanic even now. He did have this 1 mechanic that was amazing which he should of held onto the guy could turn a wrench. He also had a lot of his own customers as well. Good mechanics usually have a following. Don't get me wrong Ricky is very charismatic and will shoot the shit with you, great guy until you piss off his misses. Simply this father and son business is good. I had my brakes done, pulled in same day and out the same night. They worked past closing to get my car back. Not only that, but he honestly told me to look at doing the other brakes but didn't force it and say do it now. Also they cause a screw in the tire that I hadn't seen. Excellent Qualities: - Ricky, the owner and mechanic, is a very nice, friendly guy. He treats you like a buddy. A little too much like a buddy, though... almost to the point of abuse -- while I was waiting for him to finish up, I thought I'd grab a bite to eat from a few blocks away, and he asked me to pick up some lunch for him!! WTF!?? - Took my car here for a detailing and full inspection before selling it. He did a great job overall with the interior...it looked pretty clean on the inside and smelled really fresh. I didn't have any problems selling the car. - He inspected everything very thoroughly, and told me exactly what I need to watch out for (the brake pad was wearing out and needed to be replaced soon). Areas for improvement: - Took one day longer to finish my car than we agreed on. This is kinda understandable though, because he's the only one working there and he was busy finishing up another car. He should have kept me in the loop though, especially since I was on a tight schedule. - He wasn't able to provide a printed report of the inspection right away. I had to walk all the way to this place during my lunch break, and still he wasn't ready with the report. As I watched him stumble around like a fool, I saw that he had to go online and find a lame template, and then finally printed it out and filled everything out by hand. FAIL. Again, he's a small shop, and he's just starting, so I'll cut him some slack there. Of course, there's no excuse for this kind of nonsense in the 21st century. But to his credit, he did feel bad about making me walk all the way there and not having the report ready (as he should), so to make up for it, he drove by my work and dropped off the report. That was mighty decent of him. - After the detailing was finished, I did notice a few streaks on the windshield (some kind of wax or oil). This was very minor though, because I was able to get rid of it easily with a paper towel. Overall, I would say this -- I think a lot of reviewers have given him unreasonably high marks because they want to support their local mom and pop shop. And I understand that. But I don't take any of that into consideration. I think the stars need to be earned. I would say, if at all possible, go somewhere else. read more
