AITA!!! We hired…read moreLuis to do our wedding photography last November 23', we had hired him prior to do our nieces Quince so we knew he was on time and worked hard We waited 2 months after our wedding before reaching out for our pictures, he stated that he was almost done with them, to give him til the end of the week, then a few more days, then he got sick. My wife and I are all about family and we understand that things in life happen. We had no rush to get our photos; around February we messaged again, and then around April-May he began posting on his IG, he seems better so we gave him more time, around July we reached out and no response, my wife and I were busy moving and having our life events, so again, no rush. LATE SEPTEMBER COMES and my wife reached out AGAIN, but this time she requested to have a talk about a partial refund, he ignored my wife's email for about a week and responded with something along the lines of "I had already sent you the link, your pictures were done a while back"; my wife and I checked her email, spam folder, text messages and missed calls....NOTHING! He used this email as a reason to not look bad, and to top it off, he sent us over 1,200 pictures, a lot, right? We liked about 5 pictures of us and about 12 of the whole 8+ hour wedding. Most of the photos are repeats. Imagine 1 picture, with an average of 5-7 duplicates and perhaps different filters on them. He had what appeared to be the same picture almost 20x with different filters. I thought we were clear on the pictures we wanted but I guess we weren't because: 1) he didn't capture details from our wedding that we had asked for, like our whole wedding cake, sweethearts table, or handmade chandeliers that a friend gifted us for decorations, 2) the wedding cake and the toppers weren't fully visible, either the cake or the toppers are blurry, not 1 picture shows both just right. This was the same for other wedding details, like our wedding favors. 3) he captured maybe 2-3 events where we were happy to see our guests having fun, we loved those pictures, but the rest seems like our wedding had no "life" in it, which is difficult for a Mexican wedding of 200+ people to not have 4) our church! 1 thing we loved about our church were the colors that the sun rays give off once they hit these beautiful stained glass windows. Idk if he had the contrast too high or if it was during his editing, but there was no color in them! (Which should have been captured because people complemented our church, and I clearly remember seeing the beautiful green, yellow, blue, red light shining through these windows. There were a handful of pictures where he did capture a bit of the red, weren't great, but were nicer) 5) most of our pictures were high in contrast, had no color (we got married at an olive ranch, beautiful green trees, like 2 show the greenery, other than that, they're too bright! 6) he didn't capture a good close up of our first kiss at the church. 7) my wife had apparently insisted on him and made sure he understood that she wanted my first look reaction, which he later tried to stage. I'm not gonna lie, we were probably difficult to work with, he stayed a lot longer than he should've, but I'd like to believe we treated him kindly and fairly. Luis can work a lot better with posed photos, like with graduation shoots, but I would NOT recommend him for candids, weddings, or any big important events that are shot live. We feel like we were his guinea pigs for this wedding shoot. And I have texted, called and emailed him VARIOUS TIMES! Even through social media, IG, and he has not tried to get a hold of us. He has been ignoring us for a long time. I doubt we'll be able to get any type of refund or fixed photos, and we still had our late engagement shoot with him (as part of the package we paid for), but I doubt it'll happen because he does not respond. I wish I didn't have to leave a bad review, I hate to do this, since we got along well the day of, but we could've worked something out. He ROBBED us of some dear memories, I wish that could be an exaggeration, but unfortunately I suffer from a slight memory loss (from a TBI) where I must see proof to remember some things. This is the person you'll be working with if you hire Luis for a wedding. Attached some pictures and I blurred peoples faces to protect their identities. She flew Maurice to NY to do her photos. No regrets. Okay, so that was the most oddly routed recommendation path I've received for any of my wedding vendors. Back to my experience. We must have interviewed at least five photographers, and reviewed at least ten; both from recommendations of our wedding coordinator, wedding venue, and others. Why did I want to interview Maurice? I liked his edgy style. He wasn't a light & fluffy photographer. His photo style is artistic, emotional, perfect timed, and focused. His photos look like they belong in magazines. His advertising background gives him the professionalism of both capturing people and surroundings. Why did I want to hire Maurice? Maurice graciously met with us in his Alameda studio, not too far from the BART. He had some iTunes playing from his sound system, comfy lounge chairs, and even freshly baked macaroons from a local baker. His personality was awesome. He asked all the right questions. He had no problem with us asking 500 questions. He just seemed like he knew what's up. How was the pre-wedding experience? Incredible. His wife Nina is an organizational guru. My coordinator is also like this. I am also like this. The coordinator and Maurice/Nina never worked together before, but she told me multiple times, she loved the duo. They'd send ideas, worksheets, timelines, etc. They're flexible and accommodating. They're nuts & bolts but very detailed. They track everything you give them. They listen to you. You feel comfortable knowing that they're on top of everything you're telling them. They don't go days leaving you hanging if you email them, either. How was the wedding experience? Maurice is a machine. He came onsite about noon and didn't leave until after the wedding was over at 10pm. You'd see him on ladders, taking shots from afar, from near, everywhere. He loved it. His assistant (who's also a professional photographer) was great. They even dressed in the wedding theme colors. They were snapping all day and all night. I had to convince him to go eat dinner. I don't know how the guys were so friendly and so on-point for so many hours. Everyone commented how amazing they are. He was so FUN to work with. He didn't exhaust you and you could tell he is so passionate for what he does and you're his main objective. How was the post-wedding experience? Also awesome. In just a few days he made a blog of his favorite photos. In just a few weeks, he had the whole collection online to view. In just a few weeks after that, he had proofs of albums to review. We made a few changes. He's so creative. He even remembers design elements from our wedding to incorporate in the album. For example, my husband made custom cornhole boards and Maurice remembered the design. We tracked down the Esty seller who gave us an image of the decal which Maurice put on the back of the photo album. A few weeks after finalizing, our photo album arrived, as a high-quality book, in an eloquent box, accompanied by a thank you card. Anything else? Maurice also submitted our photos for magazines. I can't wait to see what happens with that. Incredible, photos, quality, customer service and enthusiasm. Really, you can't go wrong.

There is no doubt that Maurice takes beautiful pictures. His assistant, Nina, is also very friendly and responsive. Unfortunately, after signing the contract and paying the amount in full (and cash), he reneged on his contract. His reason? Nina accidentally booked us for October 2011, not October 2010. This was suspicious, as we received several emails from Nina with additional details about our upcoming wedding a few weeks away. I've had nothing but great experiences with Nina (we actually first reached out to them over a year and a half ago when we started planning, then again a few months ago when we finally decided to set a date). I don't believe that there was a mix up in dates. Since we had a smaller ceremony/reception and paid in full, Maurice was able to give us a considerable discount on his package. I fully believe that another bigger, pricier client came along and was too good for Maurice to pass up. I don't doubt Maurice's talent. However, I am most disappointed that having a signed agreement and paying the total cost up front wasn't enough to confirm him for our wedding. It's either poor organization or poor business ethic, and that is the last thing that any bride would want to worry about. I am giving Maurice two stars because he quickly refunded our money and offered a complimentary session. Maybe in time I'll feel differently, but I think I'd just be scowling in any pictures he shot of me! In the end, we fortunately found a FANTASTIC photographer (Charles Le Photography), and I truly think this cancellation was a blessing in disguise.

She was great with my little guy. The studio was clean and well organized. Now the rub. After the photo shoot we received the samples with watermarks and no-edits, and offered to pay for just the digital copies of the photo which seemed like a reasonable request. However, she said she would only release them if we purchased the entire package (like $3.5-4k. There's no pricing on website and price only disclosed after the complimentary photoshoot on some website link) for 30+ photos and even if she sold us the digital photos, it would still cost the same. Are you kidding me? For my wedding in 2023, we had 2 photographers and videographer, for over 5 hours, and that price tag didn't add up. Seemed a little shady to get you in the door and upsell you at a RIDICILOUS rate. Kind of a waste of time. We just opted for the "complimentary" 5x7 photo which still took like 4 months to obtain and we had to pay for shipping.

He was expensive and we thought his service level would match his price. However, as soon as his final check was cashed, he was evasive in when we would get the rest of our package that included albums for our parents, a wall photo for us and all of our negatives. I have left multiple messages and have not even been granted the respect of a return phone call. None of his assistants have followed through with getting us our packages, even though they promised in several different emails. Our kids ask to see our wedding pictures and we can't share any from that day with them. We would not recommend him or his type of customer service to anyone!
