Covid ward. Not on tour.

Heada up. It is November 18, 2022 the Hebrew Home still has a Covid 19 outbreak. The overall second highest number of covid cases in the country. the Highest number of cases/deaths in the dmv. Probably because they don't follow the cdc protocols for a rehab facility during a covid outbreak. No testing, inadequate vaccination for staff, improperly masked staff and residents. incorrect protocols that offer no protection and a false sense of security. Gowns on the covid ward, big surprise. no scientific reason. How about spending money on patient safety. Real patient safety. Follow the cdc guidelines. Proper testing. vaccines for all the staff. Masks for everyone. you will save money on body bags. you can close the covid ward.

Here is a photo of our mom's nails today. They don't shower her, her hair is dirty, her room is dirty, unclean, carpet is dirty. This place is 15k a month!!!! Their vaccination rate is only 70%. How about they offer an incentive for people getting vaccinations. This place neglects patients! Keep your loved ones at home!!!

Went to check on Dad - has dementia - and this is what he's reading
Shannon D.

My dad has dementia, but he's still one of the best people I know. Sometimes he struggles in public places, but he's always excited to be involved in the community. I'm so glad that he's healthy and happy after so many years of unaddressed health issues and substandard care. Last year was scary for him healthwise (literally on his death bed), but things are looking up for sure, so I'm beyond thankful for the Hebrew Home.

After a visit Covid style.

There are musical performances and other cultural and healthful activities. It's difficult for anyone to adjust to a new environment, and even more so for an elderly person with dementia. The Kensington Park staff do their best to welcome and acclimate new residents - which, with the added problem of Covid, is a challenge. They are kind and attentive, dealing with irritability and other behaviors with grace and patience. The management is very open to communication from family members and every issue is addressed. Visits from family members are easily scheduled. It's a good place.

This was a direct lie to my face. Subsequently, I spoke to my friends' daughter who told me "since her mother broke her arm, she was not participating in activities, and was too tired from too many visitors. The supervisor's recommendation was no visitors other than once a week from each daughter, as per my friend. My friend is 97 yeaars old. The elderly NEED verbal stimulation, not isolation. My friend, the elderly lady, does not like this place and has expressed it in no uncertain terms. My experience with ideas like this ends in the life of the elderly person in less than 8 weeks. It was pretty resident-centered when I moved in but the culture has changed to be much more staff-centered. They will make changes for the convenience of staff almost instantly even if they are a great inconvenience to residents, e.g., requiring residents to submit meal orders by 8 AM the day before the meal. They have been moving work normally done by staff to residents. For example, they switched trash/recycling contractors to one which will recycle much less. Residents are now collecting much of the recyclables and transporting itself to the Transfer Station. On the positive side, apartment layouts are superior to any other community I visited. It is a very friendly community.

My Mother lived at IKF for many years, she started in assisted living, but then transitioned to the memory care unit. The staff was so wonderful to her. My sisters and I were so happy with the care our Mom received. Matter of fact, even though my Mom passed away several years ago, my sisters still tell me that it was the best thing I ever did, finding IKF for our Mom. We called her Eloise at the Plaza, because she felt like it when she was there. Madelyn F

There are tons of different buildings, and it seems to lend itself to various different types of active adult, assisted living, and other retirement living solutions. * The grounds are also pretty well kept. We visited in the winter primarily, so I cannot say how it looks in the spring, but it was quite scenic even then. * The meals looked to be of decent quality, though we did not partake in them ourselves. Ma didn't seem to complain about them either. * The amenities were ample, I think. Each room had a TV, though her room was shared with another resident. It was difficult to get a feel for normal daily life there. * The security was pretty tight I noticed, too, at least for motor vehicle traffic. Also, the building had a watch-person manning the front desk. The lobby included an apiary, which was inviting and cheerful. This is where my praise stops, however. I cannot say I had any positive experiences with any of the staff, outside of the front desk person. The folks at the gatehouse were usually pretty curt, but the nurses and orderlies were downright appalling. Only one I met had any kind of friendly bedside manner. The rest seemed annoyed to be there. I would not personally recommend this facility, but you should really talk to the residents to get a better perspective from life on the inside. For me, as a visitor, I was unimpressed where it mattered most: patient care and experience.

Skilled Nursing Facility: My mother was an inpatient at…read moreAsbury Methodist Village Skilled Nursing Facility from the end of Dec. 2022 until April 2023 for physical rehabilitation. She was a stroke victim and was admitted to Asbury with C-Diff which she acquired during her stay at the hospital. Aftertreatment, the C-Diff cleared, and she was able to participate in light physical therapy. Unfortunately, the C-Diff returned, and my mother was given another round of antibiotics, but she did not improve. By this time, she was receiving light physical therapy in her room; however, her health continued to deteriorate until she could no longer participate in physical therapy. The therapists and nurses frequently cited my mother's age (93) as a major factor in her continued decline. One evening, the sister of a patient passed by our room and asked to pray over my mother. She was an RN and told my brother and me to take her to an infectious disease doctor as my mother's situation was dire. This was just two days after we met with the doctor at Asbury who offered no solution to our mother's deteriorating medical status and could not explain why the antibiotics were not working. The social workers wanted us to move her into the nursing home as part of the facility, ignoring the C-Diff as a barrier to physical therapy. Following this new information, we decided to take our mother to an infectious disease doctor outside and independent of Asbury; however, we were required to utilize special medical transportation contracted with Asbury at our expense. The infectious disease doctor prescribed vancomycin, which is imperative to overcome C-Diff. In about 10 days, my mother recovered, but the damage was already done as the duration of the C-Diff in her system took its toll. From what I observed, the rehabilitation room is modern and contains several pieces of modern equipment. Asbury is a good place if you are young or middle aged and need to recover from a medical condition or accident which caused physical impairment. However, if you are elderly and frail, they are neither interested nor vested in your recovery. Rather, the emphasis is to move you out or into the nursing home section. Not recommended for the elderly. As for the doctor, basic knowledge (how did he not know about vancomycin and its prescription for C-Diff) was obviously lacking in addition to his limited time at the premises, thereby creating difficulty contacting him.

Sometimes the adjustment relieves my pain within one session but I usually do regular maintenance appointments since my insurance covers it. About 2 years ago, I had really bad foot pain, it took several Piezowaze Therapy appointments to help finally fix it (about 6ish months of every other week appointments). And the pain hasn't come back ever since. When Hena was added to the team, it made this practice even better. Prior to Hena, Dr. Lee did dry acupuncture too but just a little bit and mostly focusing on where I tell him the problem area is. Now that Hena was added. It's not always focused on pain, sometimes if I tell her that my brain fog is particularly high that day or I'm having alot of anxiety, she is able to do certain acupuncture points that helps with that. One particular day, my anxiety level was pretty high, and whatever point she hit, I weirdly felt instantly blissed out haha. That's the first time I felt that with acupuncture. I was very relaxed that day. The blissed out feeling doesn't always happen, but I definitely trust her. She also introduced me to cupping and I am now obsessed with it. I never knew anything about it before, and it's crazy how much it actually helps relieve my back tension and how it detoxes the body. Overall happy with this practice and always look forward to coming in as a part of my self-care and health maintenance.
