My Dad and I visited this place on a whim. He heard about it from a colleague so we decided to visit on a Friday night. Well first impression is a lasting impression. The hostess was unprofessional, didn't greet us, didn't give us silverware when we sat down. After placing our order she forgot our drinks. My dad had to tell her several times that he wanted our drinks to come with our food. Food comes out and NO DRINKS. The food came out cold, oxtail was cold, nothing special about the coconut rice. The best thing on my plate was the plaintains. My dad had salmon and shrimp, he said his food was not great either. We come from Caribbean and Latin roots so we understand that what people say is good isn't always good and authentic. Overall I will say there are other Caribbean restaurants with better seasoned food. Just my opinion. Sorry will not return but hopefully they will get better. read more

It was ok. My first time eating curry beef think I'd prefer eating the chicken or shrimp. I went off the recommendation of the cashier lol. He also recommended a $4 drink called sorrel that I didn't care for. I've been told that if I didn't like it it couldn't have been made right. I have to try elsewhere though because it maybe me. Delishish. I walked by here and the smell made me do a double take, and made my stomach grumble. I had the oxtail lunch special with spinach rice and carrots and cabbage. It was warm and hearty and flavorful. The oxtail was so tender, and the veggies were seasoned wonderfully. The people I was with both got the curry chicken lunch special and loved it as well. We split a side of mango slaw-- which was bright and wonderful. The chef came out at the end of our meal to ask how it was and gave us some free cake slices! It was a mango cake with a lime drizzle-- soooooo good. The lime was tangy and not overly sweet, and the cake was super moist. I could have eaten a pound of if. My only regret is that I didn't have more room in my belly to try some of their other food. Will def be back. read more

I have attempted to get food from here 3 times and it has been a bad experience everytime. The food smells delicious, but the service is awful. The 1st time I tried to call in my order for 40 minutes and the phone was off the hook, so I went in to order. I waited inside for over 10minutes and was never greeted. Customer who were waiting for food and who obviously knew the staff walked back to inform the staff they had customers and still no one came to the front. The last time I successfully called in my order and was told 40 mins. I arrived 90 after I placed my order. The lady at the front proceed to help 2 people who walked in after me. When I finally spoke up and asked if my order was ready, she checked with the kitchen and they said no. She then proceeded to ask me what I wanted to do and if I wanted to continue waiting. I walked out. I'm so disappointed as I was really looking forward to this food, but that customer service is awful. read more

Great, healthy, flavorful food. Great customer service. Fantastic prices. I saw the signs while driving down the street, stopped in for a to-go meal, and am so happy that I stopped. I purchased the large curry chicken platter with spinach rice, cabbage with carrots, and plantains for only $10. The food was superb! I have never had better seasoned curry chicken in my life--even when I visited the Caribbean. An employee told me they only use olive oil and coconut oil. All of their food is fresh, nothing processed. I expected curry sauce/gravy for my chicken. They don't use any, and I generally prefer the sauce/gravy, but the chicken didn't need it. Even the plantains were sweet and cooked perfectly. They cook their rice with a coconut milk. DELICIOUS! With the warm hospitality, I would gladly return to dine in. It's not super fancy inside, but bright, clean, and has great pictures of the Caribbean on the wall. I plan on making this place a regular. It just opened a few days ago. Not very adventurous, I probably would not have chosen this restaurant advertising oxtail and goat, but my husband said let's try it so we did. And I was quite pleased! My curry chicken, with spinach rice, curried chickpeas, and plantains were hot, freshly prepared and excellent. Service was very prompt and extremely courteous. Restaurant is small, but very clean and bright with Caribbean themed background music. They recommended the homemade guava punch with good reason. Recently had dinner at Charles' and it was AMAZING! We had the special which was curried chicken, curried shrimp, coconut rice and mango slaw. The flavors took me back to my vacation in the islands. Really great food, we tried several dishes because Chef Charles kept bringing things out from the kitchen to try and we enjoyed all of it. The establishment is small and quaint, but very clean. All of the staff was friendly, especially Chef Charles who talked to everyone and seemed to genuinely enjoy what he does. He said he had gotten tired of waiting for a Caribbean restaurant in the West End, so he just opened one himself. So glad he did. If I could give zero stars I would. This place is hit or miss depending on who's in the kitchen. We became accustomed to this spot because when the food is cooked fresh it's delicious however on two separate occasions my red snapper was not fresh at all to the point where it was not edible. The first time this happened I let it slide as every kitchen has an off day but today we called the restaurant to let them know we were very displeased with our food and whoever it was they had in the kitchen. We were told Charles himself would call us back to handle the complaint (he never did). Instead the cashier called back TWO HOURS LATER to tell us they would need our food back before they can do anything to help us. Need the food back? As if we would keep rotten fish for hours. It was long gone in the trash by then. They should have told us that when we first called. How tasteless it was for them to request that we bring our order back anyways. Inconvenience much?Mind you we have been regular customers for a couple of months now. We have no reason to try to get over on anyone. Found out about this restaurant from my daughter Karen an expert on anything in and around Richmond. Took My Mom, Mother -In law and a few family members for dinner. All I can say is if you are looking for excellent food prepared in a clean comfortable environment by an awesome chef and an abundantly friendly staff This is the place. We had just about everything on the menu from Red Snapper, King Fish, Herb Chicken Mango slaw, house Shrimp, ox tails, chic peas, and curry chicken.. oh! and how could I forget the mango coconut cake!
