Came here for a family birthday dinner. We were a party of six. ***LOCATION*** Not a location I normally come out to. It was located in a strip mall. There was ample parking in the giant parking lot out front. ***EXPERIENCE*** Wishing I liked this spot more than I did. It seems more like a takeout spot than a dine-in spot. We were the only people seated at the restaurant that evening. Our waitress was a helpful, but came off a bit judgemental when our party had some questions about the menu. She was very kind to let me use the Yelp check-in coupon for the Mango Lassi I gave to the birthday boy. He said it was an incredible drink. I tried the garlic naan, the papadum, tandoori chicken, and palak paneer. Besides the naan (which was heavenly with the garlic), I felt like all the dishes were just ok. That being said, the family really liked what they got and enjoyed the food. It wasn't bad for me, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to return. My tandoori chicken was a bit drier than I had hoped and the palak paneer was a bit one dimensional. ***BATHROOM*** There are two single bathrooms, but there wasn't any soap in one so I had to go to the other one to wash my hands. Instead of having creamy cashew sauce, the sauce was red with tomato and that's primarily what it tasted like. I placed an online order for lamb saag. The order was prepared incredibly fast because I got a text that it was ready for pick up within minutes. I really enjoyed it and liked all the spices. It was a bit of a strange experience when I went to pick up the order. This was my first time at this restaurant and when I walked in, the waitress who was taking the order of the only customers there said in a very loud voice, "ll be with you in a minute." When I came in, I saw a counter on the left and that was where I thought I needed to pick up the order. So I froze while the other two customers stared at me. Her tone sounded essentially like, don't you dare walk any further. So I just walked backwards to the front door again. She then walked over and asked if I needed a table for one. Atmosphere: Piano jazz music, red and gold decor throughout. Quiet as there were no other customers. Between the blue led lights that trim the windows on the outside and the sheer red curtains on the only four windows the vibe felt disjointed instead of relaxing. I think the decor is in need of some minor updating. Food: I sampled the medium mushroom curry, vegetable samosa, garlic naan, and aloo tikki. The naan was the most flavorful though a bit overly baked. I was disappointed that the samosas and aloo tiki were not more flavorful. There were hints of spices in each dish but nothing with a "wow factor". Portions are ample. Service: The hostess / waitress (same person) was friendly and attentive. They did appear to feel more comfortable with carry out orders rather than dine-in customers. I expected more traffic on a weekend. There is no outdoor seating. Location: Located near Short Pump the restaurant is in a busy location with many nearby places to shop and visit. Price: The $74.00 check seemed high for the quality of food and mediocre decor. COVID precautions were taken including temperature checks of customers. Tables and floor are clean. We shared everything family style and had very little leftover. My favorite part was the menu. I'm a vegetarian so I really appreciate how they separate out the menu in categories so you know what has meat and what does not without having to dig through the menu. We love India K' Raja but had not been there since it was remodeled - what a beautiful job they did, totally updated and it looks so nice. We went there on Monday evening (3/17) to celebrate a St Patrick's birthday. The service was excellent, food was delicious (the chef added potatoes to my dish upon my request, which not every place will do); the other diners loved their meals as well. We are vegetarians and there are plenty of yummy dishes & sides to enjoy. Have never gotten a bad meal there, wait staff is attentive, and the owner/chef very accommodating. It was quiet the night we went, which surprised us, as it's been a well-known, well-loved Indian restaurant in Richmond area for years and years. If you enjoy Indian food, this is one of the best places in town (and our favorite!). One minor suggestion: the music blaring outside the restaurant is waaaay too loud; rather than attracting patrons, it could tend to be a little off-putting. Once inside, however, you will have an enjoyable, tasty meal. (They used to have a buffet during lunch and on special days, not sure if they still do.) Well we haven't had Indian food in few months. So we decided to try this place because we were in the area. We ordered chicken samosa, paneer pakora, garlic naan, fiesta naan, and butter chicken. When my order came out it had a piece of hair on the plate. I called the hostess over and she immediately came over and said it was a "fiber". The manager came out and offered to make another plate. I immediately refused. So need less to say, we will not be back. The butter chicken was just ok. The chicken needed more flavor. The sauce needed more flavor as well. I heard that this was the best indian restaurant in town so i took myself on a dinner date! Its located in the strip mall next to the strip mall that David's Bridal is in. I.e. same side of Broad St. Very conveniently located. You cannot miss their neon signs. Inside is nice and clean. The service was great and very attentive. They start off by bringing you papadum with a tasty little sauce. Then i got tandoori chicken tikka for my appetizer. It was good! And for my entree i got their chicken tikka masala, medium heat.
