Keep an open mind when going here. This is a small local mom and pop. The owners are a couple that have been in this business a long time. Nothing is labeled or priced. Don't expect a Home Depot or an organized, super neat store like surrounding. The displays of plants are everywhere and you really can find some beautiful gems. Bring cash and mosquito repellent and a hat as it gets very hot. This nursery is an experience and really what Hawaii used to be. The service is matter a fact and genuine. You see a lot of chickens and a feral pig that is not to be touched. There are so many local plants..anything you are looking for. Walk the aisles and just wander looking at all the fruit trees, flowers, and whatever else native to the islands. Treat the trip as a nature walk to explore old Hawaii and you can buy almost anything. We found beautiful yuzu trees..felt so happy with our purchase. We've been wanting to get a lemon tree for the longest time. So today we decided to try to go down and get one. I'm not sure what my husband's plan was (I think he wanted to grow it from the seed). But I think that would've taken forever. When we first started dating, he got me a lemon tree from Home Depot, so maybe he wanted to go there. He just wanted to get one but didn't know where to go. I told him to look up some nurseries on Yelp and see if any are open. He was able to find one right down the street from our house. Nii Nursery is located in the back part of Hawaii Kai. They have a decent amount of parking and their lot is huge. You can see all kind of plants, fruiting trees, and other things. There were a lot of lemon and other fruit trees by the front entrance. They had many different types of oranges, tangerines, lemons, and kalamansi. We looked around and saw other plants but we were mostly interested in the lemon tree. I saw the worker and asked him how much the lemon tree was. He told me the price and then came down to help us. We're just learning about planting this tree so my husband asked him a lot of questions. He was such a nice guy and very knowledgeable. He has a good personality and made us laugh several times when he was explaining to us. He told my husband some great pointers of how to plant the lemon tree in the pot and how to care for it. We had a great experience there today. It was really a personalized learning experience. We will definitely come back if we want to get more plants. read more

Glenn from Nii Nursery is so helpful. He Carrie's a wide selection of plants. Best to call ahead of time to ask if he's open and if he has the type of plant you're looking for. He had the paklan tree my friend wanted and when I went in person to his nursery he showed me different sizes. All of the trees were healthy and some had flowers. Stopped by today to check it out for the first time. We live in the area and had never been. Tried last weekend on a Saturday and they were closed. This Saturday, we arrived in the afternoon and there was not a car anywhere, and did not see any people. There was a sign that said open till four with an arrow, but again, it was a ghost town. We parked and walked into an area that looked like it might be the entrance. Not a very appealing atmosphere. Lots of junk everywhere. Saw a woman watering and asked if they were open. She very rudely replied "does the sign say we're open?" That was it - no help or offer to assist. She pointed down the road where we found another person. He was curt and unwelcoming. We ended up leaving within 5 minutes. read more

I love this place. If your looking for plants that are not common in your local store or nursery, go see this place. It's in the boonies, and looks like a scary movie, but the mom and pop service and the expertise is there and alive. You will always leave with something and the prices are very reasonable. First time visitor and I absolutely recommend! I'm not too sure why I didn't visit sooner, it's so close to where I live. This place is run by Charles and his wife, and they are so funny and humble! I get so nervous going to nurseries by myself, but he was so friendly and helpful. The area is large which plenty of different variety of all types of plants. I even found beautiful alocasias that I was looking for. Price is amazing and way better than other nurseries. I'll keep coming back and tell all my friends and fellow plant lovers! Tip: Always call ahead of time to make sure they are open. I made that mistake by dropping by one time and they were closed. It's just Charles and his wife, so if life pops up they might have to close for the day. read more

A very close family friend brought us to Nii's and we are so grateful to him. We got some beautiful hybrid hibiscuses and they are simply gorgeous. Staff is so nice.Very very knowledgeable. Very patient. Prices are reasonable. It was a really educational place for my young son too. We've referred other families here and they have thanked us time and time again. Worst place ever! The first time I went around noon I was able to buy a couple plants but all the other 15 plus plants I wanted "are not for sale!!" The second time we drove thirty minutes to get there, they were closed at 2pm. Third time we call first (like always) to confirm with the Owner personally that they were in fact open until 4pm. When we arrived we were greeted by an angry woman screaming " were closed! Didn't you see the sign? What do you want?!" I attempt once again to collect about 20 plants (x $12.50) and after arguing for a moment with angry lady, the owner waddled over and Proudly proclaimed that "nothing was for sale! Glenn the owner is very knowledgeable and helped us pick up some outdoor plants for our front yard. Glenn is very knowledgeable about watering schedules and how to plant. He selected the best ones and helped us load it in our van. I would definitely recommend coming out to Hawaii Kai to visit this nursery. read more

Yea, not easy to find first time, especially as Hawaii Kai Drive is "private" for a stretch: best to go back Lunalilo Home road, turn left at the school then turn on navigation again. Fortunately I have been at this place several times over the years, and knew the way. It is NOT your neat, tidy, row after row of perfect plants like in Waimanalo. instead, it is a Jurasic Park jumble of terraces, the line obscure by overgrowth but that's the way I like it! The owner knows his stuff, and you'll get the advice you need here, that the big box retailers don't know, or just don't care about. For example, I nearly bought a nice looking Plumeria at big box to help shade my Anthuriums. The high price stopped me, and i went back to Nii (cheaper) and thankfully learned that the Plumeria would drop it's leaves in the winter leaving my Anthuriums exposed. Now, that is not something big box would have told me. Within minutes, the owner of Nii, with his wagon in tow to load my plants, led me to just what I needed. Summary: not easy to find...jungle of plants...knowledgeable and helpful owner...oh, and did I mention less expensive than either big box or neat and tidy? Try it out, bring an open mind and have some fun, get some great plants, save some money. You'll be back - I always am! read more

This nursery has got it together! Lots and lots of plants for your viewing pleasure and selection. Happy to have found this place, Greg was a nice addition showing us around the nursery and making sure that we found what we wanted, okay so not to the exact plant, but one in the family..... That will do. I recommend this place, kind of hard to find but with today's GPS technology...... Nii nursery prices are more than reasonable. Nicely stocked too. I have been going to the nursery for over 20 years. I'm kind of out of room on my 7000 sq. ft. lot so generally go less frequently now. I am going tomorrow to show some visitors what an array of hibiscus colors there can be. Glenn and Nora (I think) are a helpful couple and I also knew Mr. Nii a little when he'd quietly come out and busy himself in the nursery. I can find weird stuff there too. Guy was really rude on the phone when we called for directions. Kinda scary looking from the driveway. Over hanging tree...disorganized lot. No one there to greet us even after walking on the property site for more than 5 minutes which is apparently where he lives. Very disorganized didn't know what plants he had there. Ups guy waiting for someone or anyone to come out just like we were. Definitely not returning. Almost looks as if all plants he gets are from the land...not a speciality nursery. read more

I was a little skeptical after I tried calling twice, with no answer. But I headed there anyway & I'm glad I did! I was looking for crown flower which they had, & then explored the area with my toddler. They have a ton of different plants! It's an open layout nursery. It was beautiful! The woman there was very friendly and informative. After visiting, I can see why my call wasn't answered, it's a family run place with lots to tend to! I'm going back soon! read more
