Stopped by this plant shop with a friend because they wanted to get a specific plant for their new apartment. The shop is located on Cooke Street in the Kakaʻako area of Honolulu. There isn't much space, but they had a variety of beautiful plants, all organized neatly on display. Prices were also reasonable compared to other shops I've visited on Oʻahu. Since it's a small shop, there was only one worker when we visited. We did feel a little overwhelmed at first while looking for the specific plants my friend wanted, but eventually we were able to ask questions when the worker was free. She was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the plants they had for sale. My friend found two of the plants on their list, but the other one wasn't available due to the shop's limited space. The worker checked the main garden in Mililani and confirmed they had it there, which was super helpful. Overall, this is a gem in the Honolulu area and a really enjoyable experience. Gave into peer pressure. At work there's an optional, friendly contest to decorate your cubicle for Halloween. I've been too busy in and out of the office so I put this matter on the back burner. Just the other day I took off from work due to parking issues where administrators encouraged us to take leave and my car was due for 6 months maintenance. I strategically made other appointments and errands to do to maximize my time off. After getting my much needed haircut from Salon Capello at Imperial Plaza, I walked back to the parking structure and saw Mari's Urban Garden (MUG). I've seen this store before but never walked in until the other day. I witnessed a customer carrying an orchid plant, which got my attention. You see, the other week I went to buy an orchid plant at Long's to use a coupon soon to expire, only to realize all orchid plants were sold out. I just had to investigate after what I had just witnessed. Mari's Gardens originally started in Mililani back in 2008 selling fresh local produce and indoor and outdoor plants. The parent company expanded in Kakaako February 2021 with MUG. I initially entered the store to check out the orchids but my eyes also landed on their seasonal items tastefully displayed. One table in particular, had Halloween themed accessories where my eyes landed on. I came across a white mini Phalaenopsis plant that I wanted. It had a modernized clay pot, and thought it'd be cool to have some Halloween decoration. This would give my cubicle some life and a festive vibe. While waiting for my turn, the friendly female staff assisted the customer with her orchid plant purchase, along with some items for maintenance. This gave me more time to check out this store with a wide variety of plants and accessories. When it came to my turn, the sales associate greeted me and listened to the reason of my visit. She checked the orchid inventory in the back to allow me to select whatever was on hand but personally I liked my first choice and stuck with it. I was then guided to the cashier where there were more Halloween decoration which also got my attention. I took the associate's advice by emptying the whole container to check out the small figurines. I ended up selecting 8 figurines and a bat decorative stick to accompany my plant. Checkout was a breeze and contactless payment available. If you ask me, the prices were very affordable and didn't break the bank. My purchase was provided in a small cardboard box stuffed with paper to secure my plant during transport. I drove to my office after leaving MUG to drop off my new plant and arranged the small figurines. I was very pleased with my purchase at MUG where it now gives my cubicle some life and a festive vibe without being excessive. Overall, a very happy and pleased customer of MUG. I'll be sure to stop by after my next haircut at Imperial Plaza. I'm at a stage in life where I now realize little things can lift my spirits up and orchid plants have done so. read more

My friends and I decided to attend an ornament making event with our kids for Xmas. This allowed us to spend time together and exchange gifts. The lady was super helpful and allowed the kids to have so much fun. She even took it a step further and helped them make other items like a terrarium. Salad and cupcakes were included in the process for the workshop. We were also the only ones signed up, which was nice and intimate. I was so happy with this experience and will definitely be back. One of my favorite places to browse for plants and plant related gifts! Be sure to get free validated parking by entering the parking structure from Kawaiahao street (look out for the maroon awnings for the entrance). The parking attendant will give you a ticket and a piece of paper. Take the ticket with you to get validated but keep the paper on your dashboard. You'll return both to the attendant when you exit. Make sure you park in a stall that's labeled at the top for customers. And make a note of where you parked lol...it's easy to get lost in the parking structure! Mari's Urban Garden is a great place for smaller houseplants (maybe 8" pot and under) and plant related gifts. They do have some plants that are larger/in larger pots but a majority are on the smaller side. Their stock is regularly changing so I highly recommend following them on Instagram and checking their IG Stories! They always have a good mix of common/low maintenance plants (pothos, aglaonemas, ZZs, etc.) and rarer, sometimes more advanced care plants (monstera Thai constellation, philodendron pink princess, etc.) I've seen a fungus gnat here and there but all of the plants look super healthy and well cared for. What I appreciate about Mari's Urban Garden is that all of their plants are labeled and their staff are knowledgeable and friendly if you have any care questions. I feel like each time I've visited, I overheard staff assisting customers with plant selection when they're browsing for new plants and plant care on plants they've already bought. No need be shame if you're new to houseplant or feel like you have a "black thumb"! They're welcoming to keiki visitors too (of course, please make sure they use "gentle hands" and/or ask before touching things). I feel like some plant shops (especially on the mainland) can feel high makamaka where they expect customers to already be well-versed in houseplants and/or get annoyed when people bring their kids to shop. Plus it's frustrating when I see a plant I potentially want to buy but there's no name label or only a generic label (ex: "tropical plant") so I can't look up the care requirements on my phone. They also have cute labels for pet friendly plants too (: I think most if not all of their plants are sourced from Mari's Gardens in Mililani. If you live town side, you can place an order on their website to pick up specific plants/items at Mari's Urban Garden. I haven't tried this service yet but I was surprised to see options for larger plants in 1 - 2 gallon pots. I feel like their prices are very reasonable. There are some pricey plants but they're on par if not slightly less expensive than what other shops, including online, are offering the same plants for (ex: monstera albo, ZZ raven). Free parking, friendly staff, fair pricing. Can't ask for more! read more

Sad to say that the Mother's Day grab and go bouquet that had to be preorder was a Fail. The pictures on the website were labeled as "freshest locally grown blossoms...special and vibrant" and shown as an arrangement with fillers, a protea, anthuriums, roses and tropical ginger ranges of pinks in color. I was given the choice to pick one of the 4 grab and go options and was extremely dissatisfied. I noticed that neither of the options looked anything like what was advertised, nor were the medium arrangements that were set aside for pick up, except for the large that cost $80. My friend picked hers up at the Mililani location and experience the same thing, where we both had 3 roses with brown edges and some fillers, and a palm leaf which were the most decent looking out of the bunch. I couldn't gift this to my mom, so I had to create my own with added flowers from Safeway that cost the same price. Next time, please either give what is being advertised or a note stating that flower choices will change upon day; especially if it's a preorder item. Something to let the customers know what they are getting. This isn't my first time purchasing from here and enjoy every time we come but this visit was less than satisfying. read more

This little plant/gardening shop tucked away in Kakaako is a true gem of a find! I've been to a couple of other urban plant shops around Honolulu but I keep coming back to Mari's because of their wide selection and friendly service. They have a huge selection of indoor friendly plants ranging in size/shape/care needs as well as soil, pots/planters, and cute gifts/cards. They'll even repot any plants you buy if you buy a pot from them. There's plentiful street parking outside, free on Sundays. read more

We had a fun virtual event where we assembled some cute succulents into a terrarium-like arrangement... Acceptable for gift giving! Mari's Urban Garden is more convenient for residents who live in Honolulu. A possible concern would be the parking in Kaka'ako. I solved that problem by visiting on a Sunday when metered street parking is free! I scored a space right in front of the shop! My mom tagged along. She was equally impressed with the pleasant decor, attractive displays, wide selection of plants (zz plants, lucky bamboo, anthurium, violets, etc.), and friendly service. We both oohed and ahhed over whimsical accessories like angel ornaments, candles in local juice cans, and colorful planters. One of my newest interests is plants...where since we bought a place, I've been looking to find ways to help bring life to the place as well as clean the air in the apartment. Then, I heard about Mari's Urban Gardens...a little oasis in Kaka'ako that has a surprisingly wide variety of plants, planters, and other tools used in the hobby. Most importantly, Mari's Urban Gardens has very friendly and knowledgeable staff that can answer many questions about the plants and the needs of each type. This was my one-stop shop for all my plants. I've visited this shop many times in the past few months and, each time, the service I received was the same - the staff always greets each customer and offers to answer questions you may have. I've asked them about how often do I water it, how much sunlight does it need, how do I repot plants at home...and each time, they are so kind and and helpful. In fact, my last visit, when I mentioned that some of my plants were dying, the staff said that we can always reach out to them via direct message in Instagram to try and diagnose the problem. Besides being a great resource to help figure out how to care for the plants, the staff can also re-pot plants and make arrangements (if you want a custom arrangement vs the pre-arranged plants). This service is free if you purchase the plant and planter at the store in the same visit, but if you bring your own planter or it was purchased on a different day,, they can still re-pot plants for $3 per planter. If you're a plant lover or someone just getting into gardening, you should definitely check out this shop. read more

Super cute plant store! They also sell micro flowers and fresh lettuces. There's a section with assorted crystals, and in the opposite side, are indoor plants with a little sticker for the ones letting you if they are toxic to your fur babies. The staff is really friendly, and Erica is very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of my questions! As for parking, there's several parking meters directly in front of the store, and I was told that they validate parking if you park in the building. I could spend hours in this place! Having visited many a plant shops in town , I find this place to be of great value. Compared to other shops, the prices here are very reasonable and the quality and variety of plants are very good. I particularly like that they have a huge selection of succulents. Most of the plants are in 3-5 inch pots which is perfect for someone like me who live in a condo. Whoops... Yelp removed my review announcing this location that I posted one month ago but, I'm happy to say that I finally got myself to go in to check out this new shop. Admittedly, I'm not a plant parent or even have a green thumb. Hmm, is that saying that I don't have a "nurturing" disposition?? I didn't inherit my parents' green thumbs as my family's nearly 20,000 sq ft lot, my parents planted and grew many tropical flowers, fruit trees, and vegetables. By the time I was a pre-teen, my parents had split and sold half of the lot as it was becoming too much of a "chore" to maintain. Anyway, there wasn't ever a day when my family home didn't have fresh flowers decorating our home or fruits or vegetables to eat. There were many times when I'd either be delighted to accept the abundance, and I'd curse at the excess because my sisters and I would be baking, cooking, canning, or freezing whatever came from our yard. Throughout my adult life, I've managed the interior of our homes, which included plants and flowers, while my husband concentrated his green thumb outdoors. It wasn't until we moved into a townhouse subdivision that my husband gleefully got rid of his yard work equipment and supplies. We've been to Mari's Garden in Mililani in 2008 and subsequent years when we'd accompany my eldest sister and brother-in-law to select plants and trees for their yard. However, since moving into urban Honolulu, we haven't had much interest in growing indoor plants, save for wanting a vertical garden designed for our home. Fellow Yelp Friends have excitedly described their recent experiences at Mari's Gardens, so I was genuinely excited to see Mari's Urban Garden opening in our current neighborhood. Upon entry into the bright and clean store with its entrance on Cooke Street, a vertical garden on display, diverted our eyes as we surveyed the store for other small plants. They did an excellent job of displaying the succulents and miniature plants in tasteful planters or terra cotta-like pots. Everyone inside the store observed social distancing while browsing and wore proper face masks. I spoke with one of the workers who shared with me that they'll be offering food sourced from their Mililani farm as soon as they complete setting up their kitchen. Yay! We're now looking forward to fresh-made salads, sandwiches, or maybe flatbreads that we can pick up to-go. Walking into this store with all of the different plants around, I suddenly felt like my lungs were taking in cleaner air and the greenery around had me feeling more enlivened. I love Mari's Garden in Mililani, but sometimes for a townie like me the drive out to Mililani can be a bit much. Thankfully, Mari's Urban Garden has been on my radar since Fred and Mari shared it with the YES at our virtual event back in December. When I heard they were opening their doors, I knew I had to pay a visit. Nestled in the outskirts of Kaka'ako in the Imperial Plaza building lies Mari's Urban Garden. This cute little plant shop is a plant parent's dream! With everything you could possibly need to bring some green into your life, they've got it! Although this location is a scaled down version of their Mililani location, don't underestimate it because they've got a lot of plants, pots, and accessories, waiting to be discovered; and this shop is fit for the surrounding neighborhood. The sizes of the plants here are perfect for the apartment and condo living humans in the Kakaako area! And don't forget, affordable too! My love for Mari's Garden and the Lau family only grows as I learn more and more about this 100% family owned and operated biz. All of the fixtures, shelving, and tables in Mari's Urban Garden were built by Fred! How incredible is that?! Parking here was a breeze on a late Sunday morning. This little store is great ! If you've been to the garden out in Mililani, you'll love it here. Same great service, smaller location, but same great little plants. There's obviously not quite as much of an inventory but the plants here for the most part seem to be suitable for those of us who live in town, have small apartments with little to no sun, or small windowsills that could use a succulent or two. The space is a plant parents dream, so many cute pots, plants, even some cards, pins, apparel, etc. It's definitely worth checking out. Some logistical stuff: If you can get street parking in front of the store (there's metered street parking), that works, that's what we did. They are currently limiting store capacity because of covid and do temperature checks at the door. they also have hand sanitizer for when you walk in the store. I also follow them on Instagram and their part of their email list to get notified of specials. It's a small shop but a nice variety of plants to choose from. Found my new favorite place! literally every plant lover's heaven. Mari's Urban Garden has such serene vibe where one can spend an hour inside, mesmerizing every single thing-- from succulents, to crystals, to the little make-your-own dried flowers vases. Parking: I've read lots of reviews about the parking, so I prepared to get lost and confused locating it (which I did). It's okay, though, because it's so worth it, in my opinion. If you use Google Maps or the Maps App on iOS, I think it'll direct you to the Imperial Plaza's parking entrance for residence only. To find the correct parking entrance, I believe you'll have to go onto the Ward Ave, which is a little alleyway-esque road and it should be on your right. There'll be a person at the booth that'll give you a validation card and a little note that says "customer." Customer parking is from 1A to 3A, if I'm not mistaken and there are designated parking stalls for customers; you can find the sign on the ceiling, in green paint with a 'customer' sign. I parked at 2A, by the orange wall that says "to Cooke St." If you use that exit door and follow the signs, it'll take you straight to the shop which should be on your right. Validation is for 2 hours, but I'm not sure if there's a minimum amount of purchase to get free parking. I didn't pay anything. Shop: again, serene place to shop at. Staff is so friendly and helpful with everything. The little vase is actually a make-your-own vase, but one of the staff (I didn't catch their names!) helped me arrange and cut them to the right height. I didn't purchase my bedroom plant, but it's okay because I'm coming back soon. I decided to get last minute Valentine's Day gifts, and I'm so happy that I chose this shop to get them. They have great selection of plants that are indoors- and low maintenance-friendly. They also have books, crystals and sages, and fresh produce from their nursery in Mililani! read more

I have to shop here in secret... my husband knows this place where I can't control my addiction. The store is so beautifully presented and organized. The staff are just the nicest cutest ladies ready to answer any plant questions or just have plant conversations.. yes "it's a real thing" with fellow plant moms. It looks like they only sell well rooted, healthy and thriving plants ready for a good home. Also if you buy and plant as well as a pot there they will repot it right there for you!! I already fell in love with Mari's Garden, her Mililani location, and with this newer location in downtown, it just makes it more accessible to purchase all of her wonderful green babies! The staff here are absolutely wonderful, helpful, and knowledgeable. I can make a trip here once a week if my wallet allowed me to. Mari' Urban Garden has a great selection of different plants as well as decorative pots. They will even repot the plant you purchase into the new pot for you! I recommend following them on Instagram. They always update what they have instock, and let tou know when they have a restock day. Parking is free I. The building, or there's usually street parking too. Mari's Urban Garden and Mar's Garden are definitely my top shops to go to for all my new plant needs. read more
