After discovering that you are not to far from my office, AND you make barrel key copies, AND take credit card (all of which were very hard to come by), I decided to use your location. Prepared to have to wait possibly a week to get my barrel keys made, since they're such a pain in the butt, you laughed with your adorable chuckle and said "no, no. We can do them on the spot. And for a set of 5 keys at 5 copies, we'll have that ready for you in an hour. We'll even imprint the floor number on the key itself." You not only made my day, but you made my WEEK with this news. (I'm not hard to excite, apparently) After an hour you called, informing me that the keys were ready. And to my surprise, when picking them up, they were all SEPARATED according to which door they went to. Another thing you think would be easy to come by....but is not. I came here two weeks ago to get two easy keys duplicated. There was a gentleman in front of me who must have had some difficult key to be duplicated. After 10 minutes of no acknolwedgment of my presence, even after another salesperson came out from the back to help the first salesperon by comparing the customer's key to every other key on the wall, I had to leave. It would have taken them 4 seconds to duplicate my keys and the fact that no one even said, "I'll be right with you" forced me to leave and go to Home Depot. Today, I had to make another copy of my mailbox key. A 2 second operation. Since Benton is right behind my office, I decided to give them another try. Maybe they were just having an off day the last time I was there. I walked in to the empty store and waited....and waited....and waited. No one was behind the counter and there wasn't any sort of bell or ring tone to inform whoever was behind the back door to help me. I waited for ANOTHER 10 minutes and had to leave AGAIN. Frustrated and keyless. I'm sorry, but I like to encourage using local family owned businesses, but after waiting so long in that little store staring at every little key chain hanging on the wall and never getting serviced has forced me to never come back again. Excellent experience with these guys. I lost my only Honda motorcycle key but was able to get the ignition apart to determine the key code. I called Benton to see if they could cut me a key based on the code. They did some research, gave me a call back 15 minutes later, and told me they could do it and gave me the price. I stopped by their shop, they were nice as pie, did the job quickly, and I was on my way. Fantastic service all around. read more

I had lost one of my original Honda car keys -- it's one of those keys with a transponder chip and most locksmiths I called told me my only option was to have the dealer copy it. I was just about to give up and prepare myself to be ripped off by a dealer when I found Charles W Benton Locksmiths. They sold me a blank key for $22 and copied my transponder code on to it for no extra charge. Dealers I called wanted at least $50 for the blank, and they tend to charge extra for "programming" it. Plus, I was treated like an intelligent person and actually learned technical details about how these keys work. Imagine that happening at a dealership. If you are looking for honest, knowledgeable professionals, give these guys your business. read more

Spent a good part of a Saturday morning trying to find a locksmith that copied keys (a couple of places I called didn't), and was open on Saturday morning. Was reluctant to go all the way downtown just to copy one key but it actually proved very easy to get there (about 25 min on the T). I had a building key for my condo that I was unable to get copied at another locksmith (they didn't have the right blank). Came in around 11am and they found the right blank, copied it and I was in and out of there in less than 5 minutes. Thanks for making it so easy. read more

One of the worst customer service experiences i've had in years. Dealt with 2 employees who must be way underpaid because they could care less about customers. I stated to one of them that they do good work but they need to improve customer service. He said yeah we'll look into that. I will never be back read more

I highly recommend this locksmith. It is so nice to find a place that handles their business so pleasantly and professionally. I went in at 8 AM and came out in 5 minutes with 2 new car keys - I spent 45 minutes trying to get the same key copied at Home Depot and they couldn't do the job. I have been a commercial customer for 10 years. Ed the service manager is usally very helpful. The last couple of times I have been very disappointed with the counter service. I sent one of our staff down with a simple task and something else was done. I called the staff person and he said the store counter was very busy and the counter person was given instructions on making a couple of door lock sets always lock and not be pinned open. The counter person asked the staff person if he needed any keys my staff person said no and if he could 'nt have it be in the locked position all the time replace them with new lock sets. I went down to pick up and they were re-keyed, that's it. I was pissed and got my staff member on speaker phone and he verified what I mentioned above. I could not charge this to my account so I ate it, meaning I had to pay for it. I told them to give me new lock sets and the counter guy went to get them I asked to speak with Ed but even though he was with in earshot would not come to the counter. I could hear him telling the counter guy that i need to come down for these orders. I was told I would have to pay cash as my account was closed. I have given this company all my lock work in a low rise commercial building in Boston. I will say Kenny his service tech is unbelievable, does great work but his counter gun horrible. I always have to wait while he is selling key chains while I getting a parking ticket in front of his store. read more
