You know? That umami crunch!!!! Yum. If you are not a fan of the crunch... I was educated to not say anything if you can't be nice. Mum's the word. The pretzel itself was delightful and I'd have ordered just one of those as the way the saltiness of it compliments the steak and cheese makes you want one all on its own. Because this venue is part of an outdoor community event, I can tell you that the seating provided at the location is plentiful. But, bring chairs with you in case it's busier than you expect. As for the food truck service? Five stars! The cashier and "front of the house" was taking the orders from each person in line then promptly serving out the completed ones, calmly, in due order and keeping everything warm and handing out the food with a smile on her face and plenty of napkins!!!! Much needed. I'm definitely planning to return to enjoy this delightful combination of a Philly pretzel with cheesesteak before they head on out this year in Brigantine. If you see them listed in your event near you, do make them part of your Food Extravaganza! It's a great food truck. It's one I had skipped in previous year at the Brigantine food truck festival. Please do enjoy the outdoors as you enjoy a wonderfully constructed sandwich amongst the folk in the city into a summer night. Enjoy!

Absolutely the star of the show--fresh, soft, and delicious. Unfortunately, that's where the excitement ended for me. The steak itself was surprisingly bland and severely underseasoned, lacking the flavor and punch I was expecting. After just two bites, I was completely done. I came in expecting an iconic food experience and left disappointed. If this is considered one of the best, then Philly cheesesteaks might just not be for me. For my taste buds, this one was a definite bust.

Review for Meatheadz - Lawrence Township, NJ…read more After hearing a NJ Transit conductor rave about Meatheadz, I finally decided to check it out--and I'm glad I did. This place absolutely lives up to the hype. I went with the Plain cheesesteak with fried onions and pepper jack cheese on a seeded bun, along with an order of Meatheadz loaded fries. Let me just say, that cheesesteak was a monster. Fresh, perfectly cooked, and swimming in melty cheese--it's easily the best cheesesteak I've had outside of Philly. The portion was so generous I could barely finish it, and for anyone arriving hungry, you definitely won't leave that way. The loaded fries looked fantastic too, but I had to box them up for later (that's how filling the sandwich was). The prices were moderate and fair for what you get, and while the place was busy, the energy felt lively rather than chaotic. All in all, Meatheadz is absolutely worth the trip if you're craving an authentic cheesesteak experience. Rating: 4.25 out of 5

Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the reputation. We ordered Philly cheesesteaks, and while I was ready to taste something iconic, what I got was a black pepper overload. The seasoning completely overpowered the meat, which was disappointing. Even worse, the bread-to-meat ratio was way off. My roll was soggy, and no amount of mayonnaise or ketchup could save it. We also ordered onion rings and chicken tenders for our toddler. The onion rings were fried to the point of being rock hard. Not crispy, just tough. The chicken tenders were dry and flavorless. Our toddler ate some and said they were "good," but even she didn't want the leftovers the next day and neither did we. Hubby said to be fair, the staff was sweet and very accommodating, which we appreciated. However great service can't cover up subpar food. Sadly, High Steaks missed the mark for us, and in a city known for doing cheesesteaks right, that's a big letdown.

Over the course of 4 days in AC, I found myself here 3 times - and I have zero regrets about that. This visit I worked my way through the Classic Italian, the Chicken Cheesesteak, and the Philly Cheesesteak. All three were outstanding - the kind of food that just hits every single time and reminds you why this place has the reputation it does. It's hard to pick a favorite when everything is this good. One practical note for first-timers: a full sub is seriously substantial. Come hungry, or plan to share - ordering accordingly will save you from biting off more than you can chew, literally. The staff continues to be an absolute highlight - warm, sweet, and welcoming every time. That consistency in hospitality keeps the experience feeling special visit after visit. They are well known and upon entering you can clear tell by the walls of pictures with famous figures in sports, entertainment, and television lining the walls near the booths. They also have limited counter searing at the front. They have a menu of subs only (no fries are served only bagged chips and soda). We opted, on this trip, to get the foot long Italian cold cut sub with light mayo, oil, hot peppers, lettuce, and tomatoe. You have to go to the back of the store to place your order with one of the cooks at the counter there. They will give you a number and once your number is called, you pick up your order and pay for it at the front register. The booth seating is for customers that are eating in store. Our Italian sub was loaded with a variety of meats and cheese. It's cut in half, but you can cut that in half and you really can feed four people and a cheesesteak sub with sautéed onions, lettuce, tomato, light mayo, and hots. The rolls are fresh and sturdy to hold up to the meats, cheese and topping inside (fact: the rolls are made from Formica deli across the street!). The meats and cheeses were fresh in the Italian cold cut and the meat in the cheesesteak was ample with a great taste. All in all, a great spot to grab a sub to go or enjoy in the store.
