Very disappointing and unprofessional experience at the Charleys inside Moreno Valley Mall on 5/15/26 around 2 PM. My spouse and I ordered large Philly cheesesteak combos because this used to be one of the few places in the mall we actually enjoyed eating at. Unfortunately, the experience this time was terrible. When we received our food, both sandwiches had a very small amount of steak for the price we paid. The sandwiches were mostly bread with very little meat inside, which honestly did not feel worth the nearly $18, EACH, combo price. I politely approached the employee who took our order, Marrie Torres, and asked if there was any way to either remake the sandwich or simply add a little more protein. Instead of trying to help or showing any understanding, she immediately became rude, sarcastic, and dismissive. She repeatedly stated that "that's all they could do" and acted like I was wrong for even asking. When I requested to speak to a manager, she claimed that she was the manager on site, but honestly she did not act professionally or handle the situation the way a manager should. Her attitude, sarcasm, and unwillingness to properly resolve the issue made it very hard to believe she was actually management. Since both sandwiches were disappointing, we asked for a refund. At first, she claimed they do not give refunds at all. Then she walked to the back, made a phone call on her personal cell phone, and suddenly returned saying she could process the refund after all. The entire interaction felt extremely unprofessional and inconsistent. Another issue was that neither employee working had visible name tags. When I asked for her name, she acted irritated and said she does not give out her name "for safety reasons," which was a dumb response on her end because I then, carefully reviewed the receipt and it happen to have her full name on there. This just made the situation even more uncomfortable. To make things worse, even the receipt they provided looked faded, blurry, and difficult to read, which added to the overall rundown feeling of the location. Sadly, the restaurant itself already looks poorly maintained and nearly empty most of the time, and after this experience, it is not hard to understand why. We eventually received the refund, but the attitude, sarcasm, lack of professionalism, poor food quality, and overall customer service completely ruined the experience. This used to be a place we liked visiting, but after this visit, I honestly do not see myself coming back. read more

Horrible customer service. The manager and an employee made a dramatic scene when asking to replace my drink that was flat, no gas so I couldn't drink it. I politely asked to be replaced, first they told me that the cup had to be emptied before they could refill it, I then had to go and and dump it out in the bathroom. I went back and then they argued with me saying that it was POLICY that they couldn't refill it and I had to pay to refill it when I purchased a drink that I never drank because it was FLAT. They had to yell at me and argue with me when I am a paying customer and just wanted something simple as getting my drink replaced. Never coming back and I wouldn't recommend this place . I was really surprised by this place. There was an okay amount of meat, flavors were on point and at $10 for a sandwich, while a little pricey, it easily feeds two. I was also surprised that you can order any sandwich and the cost is the same, so obviously, I ordered the Bacon 3 Cheese sandwich. Normally adding bacon to a sandwich is extra, so if I ordered anything else, I would have felt like I was paying for bacon I didn't get. I've seen some complaints about the service in previous reviews. I went at 3:30 on a weekday so there was no line and the service was excellent. It did take time to cook the meat, melt the cheese and put the sandwich together, but just a few minutes. Perhaps it would have been different if I had come during a lunch or dinner rush and they only had the same amount of people working. Hopefully management will hear the complaints and add additional staff when needed, but I always eat at off peak times to avoid problems like this. Finally, I want to address the idea put forward by the kid whining about minimum wage. While I have no idea what employees at this place are paid, I'm sure it's not $15 an hour, nor should it be, which is why it is staffed by young people probably working one of their first jobs. The idea that you get bad service from people because they earn minimum wage is foolish. You usually get less experienced people and sometimes they do a bad job, sometimes a good job like my experience with this place. Those who always do a good job usually go on to earn more money elsewhere. That's the way the world works. Those who aren't willing to work hard constantly complain and always expect more than they deserve. By the way, the name of this place is Charley's Philly Steaks, not Charley's Grilled Subs.
