This place is closer to a four star. As it turns out this place is owned and run by a great little asian family. A man that told me his name was Charley gave me a great haircut and it was like watching a sushi chef at work. He was fast and to the point. For eight bucks this was a great haircut and I will consider coming back to have it done here again. The only reason I didn't give it four stars was because I'm old-fashioned and enjoy the art of conversation when I'm sitting in the chair. Sadly that part is lacking here. But Still because this place is next-door to the car wash I visit often and a great breakfast place next door I will for sure try it again. After all I can kill three birds with one stone. I once had to get a last second hair cut and came in and then got one of the best haircuts of my life and have been coming back ever since.

I basically have been going here since I was a kid. They have always treated me like family and have affordable haircuts for everybody!! The fact that they're also open during these times is a huge lifesaver And is super convenient given that most barbershops right now are actually closed temporarily. Came in with longer hair around 5 or 6 inches. Asked for 2" off, had to repeat myself 3 times so the lady would even understand me. By the time it was over I realised she had completely cut off the hair on the back of my head to 1" long. Even if she heard me say 2" total, how does that make sense? I didn't want to make a fuss since it was done and I hand her a 20 and 3 $1s since the haircut was $13, and I ask her for a $10. She gives me back $8, so she just tipped herself for that lousy haircut. Never again Charlies. Took me 8 months to grow it that long and wanted a medium length look, all my friends and family had told me how much they liked it longer. Went here on a Sunday due to our normal haircut place (Sams Old Poway Barber) being closed. My son and I went to get haircuts. We asked to just get his hair trimmed up... and they gave him a super short fade. Honestly it didn't look bad at all... but it wasn't at all what we asked for. I was up next. I showed him a picture of what I wanted (a sort of textured crop) and walked out with a buzz cut, but just a little longer on top. Again, not at all what I asked for. It was $30 for both haircuts. I read previous reviews before coming here and must agree... it seems they only do one style haircut here. I will not be coming back. Being New to the area is always struggle when trying to find a good barbershop. Especially when you always want to look good. I just moved to the Poway area and had been looking for a barbershop that could step up to my needs. One of them being their business hours, they seemed to be the only ones open past 5pm. That's a plus for me for the reason that I get out of work at 4:30. Soon as I got there there was an open chair for me. Charlie has been my barber now for 14 years. His hair cuts are always perfect, if there are any issues, he's quick to correct them. The cost is very, very reasonable and the waits are very short. I merely asked to not have my neck shaved at all and I got attitude, eye rolls, questioned about 4 times about whether I wanted it shaved as a block or a taper ("neither"), then asked why I wanted it that way, then laughed at, then asked again when the haircut was over if I wanted to change my mind. I managed to stay polite throughout, but told him politely I'd never come back, which he was happy about. If you want the haircut he wants to give you, it's a good deal. Always love the service here. I switched over from Sal's barber shop, where I went for most of my childhood. Sals has a fast rotating group of barbers ...I wonder how they hold on to their talent. I have had maybe 12 haircuts here and have always been happy. I always go to Charlie and have never had to wait long because if someone else is already in the chair they will be done fairly soon. I like that - give me a good cut and get me out of there. Don't charge a lot and try to justify it by taking a long time - that's a double loss as far as I am concerned. As long as he's there and I have any hair left on my head he will be my go to. Another plus -easy parking. And here is the trifecta - get you car washed at Body Beautiful, have Charlie cut your hair and eat at Brianna's Mexican walk up/drive through - they are all in the same parking lot, all priced right and all good. read more

I followed Jen to the new location. Always get a good, quick cut and she chats some too. I used to pay $50 for a cut but during the recession had to cut back. I admired a ladies cut and she sent me to Jen. I occasionally have tried other places but always go back. Have never tried a weeken but around 2 during the week is great. My mom goes to her now too and she's 85 with a perm but won't go anywhere else for her cuts. So ladies try it out. Can't beat the price or quality. And...this is not a fake review. read more

I will never go here again. I have been coming here for the last 6 months or so every couple of weeks and they've normally done a adequate job...nothing great, but not horrible...right in line with their price. Just got my hair cut a little bit ago and the new barber who was cutting my hair apparently didn't speak English. I asked for a number 1 fade and he starts cutting my hair with a 0. I stopped him and he speaks to the owner who tells him what I actually wanted. He begins to cut the rest of my hair with a 1 and continues as if he didn't screw up the one side. He finishes and hands me the mirror. Being that the sides were clearly uneven I had to tell him to make the sides even which he already knew. He tries to make them even, but still looks off. At this point he left the back a 1 and didn't even attempt to fix it. So I had to tell him to fix the back too. He does so. He keeps handing me back the mirror and at this point I figured it was as good as it was going to get. I get up and he motions for me to leave without paying, but the owner instructs him to make me pay even though he screwed up the entire hair cut. They communicate back and forth in their language and then the owner says "Your hair looks good. 8 dollars". The new barber that screwed up didn't think I should pay, because he screwed up so much, but the greedy owner didn't give a crap about his customer and just wanted my money. Well, I hope that 8 bucks was worth it. You've lost a customer for life and I hope others that go here see this and choose one of the many other barbers in the area - you'll thank me when you don't have to walk around with a screwed up haircut for several weeks. read more
