Great work Clayton, I appreciate you! I've had long hair for months and wanted to clean up and feel good. I looked through some barbershops and found Pappy's in Poway. I made an appointment yesterday and got my cut today. When I walked in, I was offered a drink, some snacks, and a place to sit. Waited just a few moments for Clayton and we got started. I did request that we have a short consult before the haircut and I made sure I came early. They're pretty booked up. I asked for Clayton's opinion, he gave it, and I agreed. In my quest to try different barbers around town, I stumbled upon Pappy's Barbershop on Poway Road. The reviews looked great so I decided to give it a go. I booked an appointment online where I was able to choose from a couple of services and the ability to choose the barber. As for my selection I wanted next day and selected an available barber which was Jackson. The ease of the booking online was easy although you do have to use a credit card to secure the appointment. When I arrived, my barber Jackson greeted me and got to work. Overall my first time experience was great as Jackson did an excellent job giving me a great haircut as I requested. He was detailed and precise in his work. I would definitely recommend this barber for their quality and service. read more

This shop is dirty gross, like the floors have never been washed! Literally smelled like crap despite all the fans on and the back door open. Barber is always late meaning no respect for MY time. Not impressed with the outcome of the haircut either. Won't give this place a second chance! read more

My two teenage boys love coming here for their haircuts! We've been going to Chad for years and have never been disappointed. My son's hair cut was done by Joshua Munoz. I showed him the exact picture that I wanted picture of my son all he had to do was trim his hair. He cut his hair at the back so high and crooked that it just bulky. When I pointed it out, he start making excuses. First excuse is that my son's hairline grows that high. Second excuse is that we are not symmetrical and he can't make the hair straight. it's so ridiculous I understand that I'm not a professional barber, but the excuses are too stupid. If you decide to go to the barbershop, do not go to Joshua. And yes, he did charge me for this haircut. And made me the villain. Told me I should look for a different barber, but I don't like it. I don't know how this shop gets so many good reviews that's why I went if you said go to the shop don't let Joshua near you. read more

Love the vibe for my husband and teen boys. Brought my husband in to cut his long wavy hair. He was nervous, but Austin put him at ease. She followed my directions to the letter. After coming home, we didn't love the square look of the cut. Austin hooked us up by adding layers with no additional charge. Plus free drinks in the fridge and vintage candy at the door. This review is awkward... I went in for a straight edge shave and haircut trim. My straight edge shave was ok. My haircut was ok. I have long hair on the top and I understand its hard to deal with sometimes. But I wanted a skin shave from my beard to my long hair. For my beard I asked for some of it taken off and then to thin it out. Showed with my fingers how I wanted it and what I wanted shaved off. I didn't ask for my sideburns to be thinned out. But he did it. I'm a big guy, thin side burns don't work for us. My long hair now. I asked for skin up to my long hair. I had my hair tied in more or less a top knot and then he clipped the ponytail to my hair so it doesn't get in the way. I thought to myself "cool"! I take out my hair tie at the end of it, lots of my long hair is coming out... I didn't ask for it to be cut... Like, what the heck just happened. (Originally set as 3 stars) As I'm typing this, my thought is to bring it down to a 2. My issue here is attention to detail. I'm asking for something specific. Don't stray from what I've asked because this what you "typically do". If you are not sure when cutting something, ask if this is how they want it. Last note, they weren't busy. There was no one else in the shop. So its not they had a handful of customer to get to next. I need attention to detail with my barber. Time to find another I guess. Update: Hi Gehrig, You are 100% right. Profanity wasn't needed. I didn't realize I even did that. I updated that. My apologies for that. In regards to the "thinning out" My beard was maybe a 3 in length and I asked for a 1.5. That was the thinning out. I asked for the shaping on my cheeks so the beard was brought down to my jawline. In regards to the man bun. My hair isn't really a man bun. I put it up so make it easier for the barber to outline the cut. I wish it was just a "few" but it wasn't. I pulled out a decent amount. If straightening it out was necessary I wish he said something about it first. What if there was a reason it was like that? Now its cut and nothing I can do about it. I completely agree, I think all of your barbers are capable of doing an amazing job. I wish I was more active on Yelp before. The first time I had been there, someone did an amazing job on trimming my hair and beard line. They even took the time to straight edge my beard against the grain after the initial straight edge to make it look nice. No need for a refund. I wasn't charged for the beard. This one is a tricky review. I think the shop is probably great. But definitely not for kids. We were in town and the shop we currently go to in Virginia Beach said that we should go to Pappy's. We enjoy everyone at our normal spot so figured we should try it out. Online it says cuts are for 6 and up and I think they should just have a disclaimer that they truly don't want kids there. When I called I had said that it was for my son and if it was ok. If they would prefer we go somewhere else I totally understand and respect that. And I totally do. Not all barbers want to do kids cuts. But I was assured it was fine and they just truly didn't want younger kids. Totally respect that. We get there and our barber barely speaks to my son. It was the most awkward experience ever. He didn't ask my son any questions try to make him comfortable or anything. As a mom I truly dislike when that happens. The cut was fine but he used a trimmer on my sons neck and left scratches on it which was super frustrating. But he never once really told my son to look down. Look a certain way or anything. It was just weird. So long story- if you have kids. Maybe try a different spot. If you're an adult this is probably an amazing spot. read more

Great place. I had never been to a Barber Shop and headed to one. I searched and called multiple locations all of which were booked solid. Pappy's luckily had availability so I snatched 2 spots one for me and one for my son. I haven't ever had my hair shorter than a 2 and I told them do what you do. Once again it was already after hours. Someone is inside getting their haircut. Whoa! I gingerly open the door and ask if I could come inside. "OF COURSE!" summarizes the barber's response. It felt like I was meeting a new neighbor and I was a guest in his house. Such a warm welcome! I spent more time than planned getting acquainted. This place is exactly what we need. Tried Pappy's Barbershop in Poway today for the first time. Wow! What a cool place. Looks like barber shops from when I was a kid (65 years ago. All decked out with neat matching old timey looking barber chairs. Cool memorabilia on the walls. A delightful puppy who will come over to say hello and then go mind her own business. My barber was Gehrig, the nicest guy you ever want to meet. He gave me exactly the type of cut I asked for. Pleasant chit chat about old time baseball. Hot towel and razor neck shave. Horrible service by Collin. I asked to tighten the sides and leave the top long as is and he literally trimmed the top for no reason. I wouldn't be as disappointed and unsatisfied if I didn't have a trip coming up in a couple of days and I now have to deal with a haircut I didn't ask for in the middle of my vacation. I use to go to the El Cajon one but my regular guy that cuts my hair (gehrig) moved to the Poway location, and I'm more than willing to make that drive out here to get my cut! I have been going by the same barber for as long as I can remember, so when I heard about this place from a buddy of mine I was reluctant. Boy was that a mistake. The shop is in pristine condition, granted it's brand new. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by both owners which was a bit surprising. They offered me free drinks and really took the time to talk with me. That combined with a skater/rock/old school vibes really left an impression and had you looking around most the wait time. While my haircut is super basic due to my work, I'd say it was one of my better haircuts. Staff continued to talk with me throughout the entire cut and tell me how the place came to be.
