Ok, I'm really trying to be nice here. I'm used to Texas styled BBQ, so the bar is set high. The folks working here are very nice. The joint looks like Old School BBQ. The food was just Ok. The brisket and turkey were cut way too thin so they got dry really quick. The sausage was really good and so was the fried okra. The twice baked potato had problems. The main issue was the two slices of fake cheese covering the whole thing. I literally pulled it off like a concrete blanket. The tea was fresh and they have nugget ice cubes. read more

This is a great location for comfort food - bbq style. The baked potatoes are super duper loaded down as just a loaded potato or also as a bbq meat laden dish! The sides are good and the drinks are mixed well at the fountain and always taste good and cold! read more

Service was fantastic, waitress was really sweet and nice. Food came out super fast and quick, fries were cold, the meat wasn't that seasoned on the brisket and chopped pork sandwich, and the chopped pork sandwich was COVERED in sauce. The staff was very nice from the owner to the waitress. The food, I got ribs and the wife got a grilled chicken salad, were very good! The hot bbq sauce was very good and not tooo hot. The ambiance is a little dated but very doable for the restaurant which is literally a father and now son affair. I think he's done a good job. Fort smith's BBQ shop back in the 80s and has slid from great to good to average at best. Went there and got bbq pork sandwich and brisket and a sausage link. Average pulled pork, fairly dry and not flavorful. Brisket was bland and boring bark. Sausage was tied and average at best. Menu options were limited bbq options. No burnt ends of any kind. Minimal sides. Just old and boring and rigid from years of staying average. Cleanliness of the restaurant was well, probably deep cleaned last when it was renovated decades ago. Service was decent and responsive. Only reason why they didn't get a 1 star. read more

We stopped in yesterday for the first time for a quick bite. The staff was very friendly and made us and our children feel right at home. The food was amazing and the portions are great. The barbecue sauce and ranch dressing are made in house, and are hands down some of the best we have ever had, and were so delicious we bought some extra to take home. Visiting Fort Smith, AR, from Newport News, VA. Ordered ribs, corn and fried okra. Okra had either been sitting under a hot lamp or reheated. It was not hot and crispy. Just hard and crunchy not much flavor. After one bite of the corn I quit. It was mushy and very starchy. Not crisp and sweet. Overcooked or sitting in hot water for an extended period? Something I am not familiar with, is that the Ribs were coated with a lot of sugar. Like eating sand. If you wash the unnecessary sugar off, they are paletable. The Ribs were also very chewy had to fight to get them off of the bone! I will not return to Jerry Neel's. read more

Didn't care for it but then again I have been eating a lot of KC bbq lately. First time to try it and the chopped beef reminded me of canned dog food. First time I ate here and was impressed. Because of the holiday, they had some boneless beef ribs. I usually don't get them because they tend to be tough, but must have been cooked properly that they were firm, but not tough with good beefy flavor. Catfish had a little salty breading, but coupled with their tarter sauce, they became tough to stop eating. Twice baked potato is allegedly world famous. They obviously put work into them. The drive thru girl was super sweet and was doing a great job working the drive thru, the food is my only complaint. I got a chopped brisket sandwich when I bit into my sandwich the whole sandwich was fat. I used to work block and cut meats at a bbq restaurant and I would never send a sandwich out like that. Not happy with my meal! The brisket I received was cut so paper thin you could almost see through it! The okra looked and tasted like it had been sitting a long while! I really have no clue what some of these negative comment people are talking about. We were very impressed with pretty much everything. We are a medical flight crew that were flying missions all day and we're able to get to the airport during a pilot swap. My partner and I were ready to eat at the airport people told us to try Jerry Neel's. This place is legit. The ribs had perfect amount of smoke flavor, tender, juicy with just the right amount of tug that quality BBQ is supposed to have. Cole slaw was decent. Beans were perfect. You can tell the ice tea is made traditionally (we drained several glasses). My partner got the chopped beef platter and literally wiped the plate clean. If that doesn't say goodness, I don't know what does. The black berry cobbler (WOW!) should be illegal because I'm sure there is something addictive in it. Our only complaint w as the cashier. She seemed to be annoyed that we walked in the door and didn't seem to want to be there herself. HOWEVER; our server was absolutely fantastic. She was happy, friendly and accommodating. Just like the commercial says will happen, the owner came out and talked to us and asked how we were doing. She was gracious, friendly and happy that we were there. That's what a good owner does and we appreciated it. This is a place that I will not only be back to, but also bring my family to (we live 2 hours away) and will definitely tell my friends about. This is little more than vomit on a plate. Seriously, the owner should be embarrassed for selling me $40 of this garbage. The wait staff didn't appear to care either way, they did ask how much cash I would like back for the tip before I even left the ordering line. I'm not lying... when I say the meat all tasted tainted. I really don't want to know how old it was, they clearly lathered it up in this putrid bbq sauce to mask the taste. I'm only leaving one star because this is the only way I can share this experience and hopefully prevent others from making the same mistake. Enter this joint at your own peril! read more

I ordered a brisket sandwich platter with the two sides it came with, which is baked beans and coleslaw. Coleslaw was sweet, which isn't a problem at all. Baked beans were spot on; flavorful, hearty with a bit of BBQ kick to them. The brisket sandwich looked more like shaved steak rather than actual pulled beef and it was dry due to the lack of BBQ sauce. It was sitting in a cup next to the sandwich, which is useful but not to my preference. The only problem I found really concerning about this particular BBQ joint is that they don't serve pulled pork. They told us that they don't use the dark meat of the pig, but instead have pork tenderloin which they cut up into squares, cover it in a blanket of sauce and call it "chopped pork." Good place to eat, has a quiet and serene atmosphere with a country American feel. read more

This is probably the worst bbq I have ever had and believe me I have had a lot. We ordered 4 lbs to go with cole slaw. The pork was shaved and was so dried out and over cooked. The meat had no smoke flavor or smoke ring whatsoever. Terrible my family couldn't eat it. The slaw was runny and had no seasoning. Tasted like the recipe was cabbage shredded with 2% milk poured on it. Then the ribs were pieces of fat and grizzly bones. Yuck! I know this place has been here a long time which is shocking. If you are looking for good Arkansas bbq avoid this place. It's terrible. read more

If you were to tell me I had just been served dog food I'd believe you (my husband and I both got the pork). Also the double baked potato they are so proud of is just a mushy potato with a slice of craft cheese melted on top. They do have really good ice. Unfortunately, about halfway through them we discovered particles floating around in our drinks. It was so bad it was comical. We were just waiting to see what would happen next. Being from Memphis I am a bit of a bbq snob but seriously this is a place for those without tastebuds. YOU DO NOT repeat DO NOT serve pulled or chopped pork drowned in sauce! It is a clear sign you are hiding subpar meat flavor. The brisket sliced too thin. No smoke ring at all. Sausage ok but a 4th grader can smoke sausage. I was never a fan of BBQ to begin with, so I wasn't too thrilled to come here. Well that sure did change after I got my meal. The sliced pork dinner is AMAZING! it got better with every bite. The fries are battered and delicious, the twice baked potato is to die for and then the pork.... Makes my mouth water just thinking about that place again. The service is really great here. That's the only thing there that is great. Got the brisket dinner which includes extremely thin sliced brisket on some wheat bread with a side of alright bbq sauce. You get a choice or two sides, I got the twice baked potato and fries. The twice baked was one of the worst twice baked potatoes I've ever had, there was pieces that weren't fully cooked and the hilarious part about it was they just took a slice of processed cheese and placed it on top and melted it. The fries was mediocre, they tasted like they came out of a bag. Total cost was around eleven and a half dollars. Not a place I would go back to. read more

Friendly staff and amiable owner but the food is pretty poor even by the local standards. The vegetables are completely tasteless and all of the BBQ dishes are poor quality meat smothered in corn syrup laden sweet BBQ sauce so you won't notice this difference. The twice baked potato is smothered with american processed cheese product instead of real cheddar or jack cheese which makes it look, smell, and taste gross. Food is served nearly instantaneously which corroborates the assumption that the food is sitting in heaters for hours waiting for an order while the taste is cooked out of it. OK if you want cheap poorly prepared BBQ served quickly by friendly people. read more
