They were convenient because I could walk to and from their shop when I needed work and they were AAA approved. But I came to learn quickly that they upsell and overcharge for labor and parts. Two years ago my alternator went. They also told me I needed a Fuel Pump Module Assembly to fix a gas leak. They also found an oil leak -- which they found a year before and supposedly fixed. Every time I go in, there's more work needed than the reason I took it in. They brag that they charge more because they do quality work. But an alternator repair that's $200 more than what AAA estimates? Also, when they made the repairs to the alternator and fuel pump assembly, my gas gauge is off and the CD to my factory model stereo no longer works. Three years ago, they had to repair the regulator on the driver's side car door window. Took them three attempts to get it right. That regulator went on me yesterday...virtually new. I took it back to my old mechanic, whose work I've never had to question. They're not worth the prices they charge, and they'll find two-three other things wrong with your car. read more

Wow, i could not say enough about the excellent service i received when I needed a tire replaced on my Porsche Taycan. Not only did they source the tire quickly, but kept me informed about timing. I called from the highway 35 miles away and was immediately helped by Kyle who put me on hold to confirm they could get the tire. When I arrived with the tow truck it was great to be warmly welcomed. This is an awesome establishment from the owner to the employees. My car broke down on the way home from the Philly airport 35 miles from where I live. The tow truck driver from my roadside assistance dropped me off at a different auto repair place that was not opened and left my car there. The next day I called Charlie's and asked him if it l be possible for him to get my car running. He walked around the corner to the place that my car was at And brought a jump. Box drove my car back to the shop and repaired it before the end of the day.. it is very rare to find that kind of service these days. They were so kind and friendly. Charlie to the rescue! I was coming down the Turnpike on a Sunday night, on my way to Assateague from Boston, when my alternator died, taking the battery with it. Long story short, the AAA tow dropped the car at Charlie's mid Monday morning, and despite having no appointment, by mid-afternoon I was on my way again. They even shuttled me to/from the nearby hotel I spent the night at! Great people, great service, even a great dog on-site - really couldn't ask for more. My only regret is that I don't live close enough to make them my main mechanic! read more

These guys are liars and crooks not to mention rude! Stay away or be ripped off!!! They start off by charging you $100 right off the bat for diagnosing the problem. And $100 each time even when they make a mistake and have to reassess. They don't call you to tell you what's wrong and how much it'll cost to fix. They just start doing stuff. I made an appointment to have my brakes done. I had waited three days and heard nothing before calling. They said we're still looking for a part. I went to the local auto parts store, bought the part, brought it in and waited another day still no call. They said Oh the part was bad you'll have to send it back and get another one. So I did same day. Was there first thing in the morning. Then they called and said it wasn't a bad part it was something else. I went out and bought other parts. (Apparently they can't order parts unless it's on rock auto discount parts site) then they said oh, there's a brake line that needs to be replaced and we have to charge you 4 more hours of labor to bend and flare a line. Then they say that wasn't the problem. You need a special pump. I go get a pump. $1,000 later (not including the parts I bought) my car is done. Parts weren't even necessary. They misdiagnosed three times. And btw they never even replaced the brakes. They never even put new brakes on the car!!! read more

Read this review and ignore anything you are seeing that relates to bad service from Charlie's. Heading down to vacation with my 88 year old mom in the car, our car broke down in Runnemeade NJ. I rolled the dice by using a local mechanic instead of a national brand but boy oh boy did we get lucky. Kyle and his counter-mate greeted me enthusiastically and in spite of the fact this shopped was packed with cars, I never felt rushed or stupid about not knowing exactly what was wrong with my car. I described the problem to Kyle and he hopped right into action. Not only did my car get diagnosed properly (YES, there was a diagnostic fee -- as I would expect there to be) but it was repaired quickly and at a fair price. Charlie, the name sake of the establishment shared a great story of a family trip he took with his crew and having had a similar experience to me, found himself on the business side of wrench himself -- almost stranded. The entire team couldn't have been nicer to both me and my mom. Fortunately, our car does not break down often BUT if it did and I lived close to Charlie's I would not hesitate to use them for everything from major repairs to oil changes. Our Monday morning started off bad, my husbands truck broke down on his way into work. We had no choice but to have it towed, and living in town and hearing so many great reviews we decided to have it towed to Charlie's. Never again...... the price quoted was outrageous, and we were required to pay for a diagnostic check ($130) even though we declined services. Extremely poor taste, especially considering this was not discussed prior to looking at the vehicle. Had we of known there would be an initial $130 cost, we wouldn't have had them look into the problem. We felt completely robbed after trying to give a local mechanic some business. I'd like an explanation as to why you think this is okay to charge people without first notifying the customer. I will definitely be spreading the word to others who have a tight budget as well. read more

My daughters car had a problem with one of the lights were out. They had to diagnose the problem which was a faulty ground wire fixed it and checked the codes for the abs light that was on. Very nice people and would recommend if you want your car fixed the correct way. read more

Charlie (the owner) was incredibly kind, personable, professional, and helpful when my 2004 Jeep Liberty died on the New Jersey Turnpike (don't we all die a little bit on the New Jersey Turnpike?) while traveling from DC to NYC. He quickly identified the problem (the serpentine belt had come off and the engine overheated), make his recommendations to us, then drove us himself to the Enterprise car rental down the street so we could complete our journey. He gave me his personal cell phone number, so I could call him on Sunday after hours. Charlie made the process of my beloved Jeep's death as painless and cost-efficient as possible. I brought my truck in to replace a serpentine belt, then was told I needed a water pump, then was told the head gasket was blown!! When the truck was towed there it had no engine light on and was running fine, just needed the belt! Why would they put a water pump in if they knew the head gasket was blown on an older truck with a lot of miles?? I paid almost $600.00 and left with my truck sounding like shit and backfiring. The mechanic that worked on my truck did not know what he was doing and I know they blew the head gasket!! Don't bring your vehicle to this place....they are rip offs!! I brought my car there to get a repair done on exhaust system. I brought my car in at 8am my appointment time. He knew I had to be In work by 12:00, and agreed the car would be finished in time. Whe the car was finished at 12:10 I jumping it and ran home for my work stuff. When I parked in the driveway I quickly looked under car to find a shiny bolt in the stabilizer bar bushing bracket. They had to move the bar to get to exhaust system to make repair. The bolt was not the right size and, when I pulled out of my driveway it flew across the street after hitting the bottom of my car. My neighbor picked it up and said this came out of your car. I called and spoke to Kyle, he said sometimes they fall out after being on lift ( I not stupid Kyle) If I didn't check the work I would be driving around missing a bolt. So. At first he tried to play it off then, he spoke to his mechanic and he told him he had to put a different bolt in. Now. Kyle says the first bolt stripped the threads on the way out but. That's not true. Anyway I brought the car back in and he said he found the bolt that was in there but he didn't and wound up retapping the threads and putting new bolts in. Not sure why he recapped to bolt holes but, maybe there was something I missed. Also they charge an environmental fee. He says it's to pay for waste oil removal. Companies that take waste oil like US Filter don't charge to take waste oil. That's just another bullshit charge to make money. They're the first auto repair shop I ever went to that charged me that fee. I didn't get any fluids changed. read more

I bought 2 cars from automaxx each one had bad transmissions,( at different times) they recommend me to their mechanic, charlie's. On each occassion charlie fixed the tranny and yet still had tranny issues. The amount of time he gives u that it will be done has always been atleast a week of underestimate. He falsely miss diagnosed my vehicles on both occassions, when i took it to a friend of my friend to confirm, they disagreed with charlie's diagnosis. Charlie and team were very courteous each and every time I have gone there for both my vehicles. Last time they had my van there for 2 days based on a failed start. During that time they ran diagnostics and simulated every possible thing that would cause the issue. All results came back positive and they did not try to shove unneeded work in front of me or make guesses at the issue. While the issue is still unknown as to why I had a fail start, they were very stellar in the care they provided and the attention to detail. Only thing I think they should do is let the two awesome bull dogs out to play with customers if asked and is ok. read more

I needed service done on one of our vehicles and called two local shops from my own home town of Bellmawr to ask if they would match a price from a competitors coupon that was a little too out of the way for me. BOTH shops declined to match! I then called Charlie's - They pleasantly said no problem and that they would be glad to match the price! I prefer to stay local for my repair work and was looking for a repair facility that could handle ALL my families vehicles. dont take your car, truck or any thing here! they will rip you off before they even see your car. they ripped me off , said i needed new sparkplugs. i had gas leaking out of second tank, but they put 3inch rubber hose & a clamp on it and it came off from gas pump pressure. charged me $485.00 for $3.00 of parts. i got it fixed somewhere else for $185.00. no sparkplugs needed. dont buy anything there, just keep on driving . zero stars read more
