The staff manning the counter was super friendly. We ordered a saltfish and callaloo patty, a spicy jerk chicken patty and a meatloaf patty as well as some coco bread. Every single patty was delicious and this was hands down the best coco bread I've ever had - soft and pillowy! The chicken patty had actual shredded chicken - not the usual ground mixture you get - and the flavor was definitively jerk. Let's talk about size: these patties were definitely the largest I've ever seen and were actually stuffed full of filling. We will not be getting patties anywhere else from here on out. I have been on Yelp for years. This is my first negative review. Their parties are good but the customer service is the WORST. Horrible. Third visit there and I have seen the cashier mistreat other customers. Not sure why she has an attitude. She is extremely rude and acts like she's doing the customers a favor. I was told that Charlie's Pastries is well-known and well-loved for its Jamaican beef patties; that everyone knew this place as one of the best, especially since it had been there for so long. It was good, but, overall, I wasn't majorly impressed. Charlie's is part of a big shopping plaza, so there's plenty of parking. Inside, the place is pretty shabby. From what I can recall, there wasn't much on the walls and there was a lot of empty "standing space." There's a few coolers to your right with a variety of Jamaican beverages, and a counter with a glass case immediately in front of you. The case houses a variety of cakes and breads. When I visited, there were two ladies staffing the counter. One was working as a cashier and the other was getting customers' orders ready. I wouldn't say they were especially friendly to me, but when I was leaving I was wished a good day with a smile, so they were friendly enough. Initially, I ordered a jerk chicken patty and coco bread, and picked up a lemonade from the freezer (if you have real lemonade, I will always get that). I was then told that there is s $5 minimum for card transactions. Actually, I wasn't really "told," the woman just pointed at the numbers on her screen several times until I figured it out (maybe they weren't so friendly?). So, I ended up ordering a spicy beef patty too. Took everything home and didn't eat it for a few hours. Finally, I sat down to give it a shot. First thing I ripped into was "coco bread." I have no idea why it's called this and I was wary that it'd have some weird coconut/paper texture, but OH-MY-GOD, coco bread is goooooooood. I'm a bread lover to begin with, so this was right up my alley. It's thick and pillowy soft with a slight sweetness to it. Yumyumyum. Then, I bit into the jerk chicken patty. Meh. It was okay. The chicken wasn't evenly distributed and there were some parts with massive chicken pieces and others without. There was no heat either and the crust on the patty was way too thick for my liking. I tore it open and just put the filling on the bread. The spicy beef patty was much, much better. However, the crust was still too thick and I would've liked more heat (I added hot sauce). My friend suggested putting the whole patty inside the coco bread; as he said that's how everyone eats it (I just Googled it...yeah, it's a thing. Excuse my ignorance, Jamaican friends.). I couldn't justify all that crust and all that bread, so I did some half-and-half version of that. It was good, but mostly because...hello, coco bread. Oh, the lemonade was delicious. :) I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit Charlie's again, especially now that I've done some Googling and learned that basically every Jamaican establishment near me makes coco bread (Why hadn't I ever tried this before?). Went in this morning for a jerk chicken pattie. I wanted a quick bite before getting on the road. This was my first time at this location and now my last. They didn't have "change" or enough money to accept a $20 bill. Which is fine, but the last was beyond rude. I will never recommend anyone to this location or to a Charlie's pastries. I was there for 4 days....I ate there 6 times. Nuff said! But should I indulge you: The patties are ridiculously flavorful! I've had everything from beef, to chicken, to calaloo and salt fish and even the meatloaf patty. And though I AM NOT a fan of bread (I wrap my burgers in lettuce) I devour the coco bread like it's the last supper, every time! OMG! The most melt in your mouth thing you'll ever taste! Big up to Charlie's! I grew up eating Charlie's. These are the most filling patties Ive ever had in life. The veggie patties are amazing. The crispy, orange crust is so satisfying - I could just eat that! I tried a Callaloo Loaf for the first time. Ive never been a fan of Coco Bread [ducking for cover] I know, I know a Jamaican Pattie and Coco Bread are a match made in heaven but I just cant deal with all of the bread. Anyway, the loaf was pretty tasty and i had nice surprise when I bit a piece of Salt Fish. I thought that pattie smelled a little fishy. All in all it was pretty good. Beware: you will wait in a line that's out the door! If you're in Broward and have quite a few minutes to spend in line, grab your phone, play a game and wait on these patties. I grew up eating Jamaican beef patties and there's nothing satisfying then picking up a soft, chewy pastry pocket filled with a spicy meat filling...mmmmmm... For Miami folks, Jamaican beef patties are the equivalent of the latin empanada but softer, -slightly- less greasier. This barebones location is good for picking up a bunch of patties and going elsewhere to devour them. Just to show you how popular Charlie's Pastries is, it's been distributed by PUBLIX Supermarkets in their stores since they are such a popular local item here. Went here looking for meat patties, which as a lover of savory pies is amongst the best things ever. The meat patties ate Charlie's are ok, the crust is a bit to thick for my liking. Their meatloaf, which I have not eaten before is like a double sized pattie, not as spicy and is extremely good. I recommend getting a piece of cocoa bread, a meatloaf and a drink and you are good for lunch for under $5. read more

These patties are seriously FRESH! The shell of the patty is perfectly flakey and the inside is always tasty and hot. I usually get the jerk chicken patties and yes, they are filling and delicious. They have the right amount of spice, making them very enjoyable. (If you're the type of person who is SUPER sensitive to spicy things, you will find them spicy). I have never been a fan of cocoa bread because I find the breading on the patty is already enough, plus, they tend to be too thick and doughy. BUT these cocoa breads are super soft and fresh. I can eat it by itself. Most of the patties are under 2 bucks, so if your looking for something cheap and satisfying (rare), it's a good pick. They have a small inside; no where to sit down. It's just a pick up hub. They do take credit cards, but it's a 5 dollar minimum. They also offer desserts, lots of native Carribbean-esque beverages and standard sodas as well. I've had the red velvet cake from there, and it was pretty good. Sometimes I'm in and out within a minute, literally. Then there are times I go in and will have to wait a couple minutes for fresh patties. I never mind that though. The lady behind the counter tells me when I have to wait and comes back to tell me when it's almost done. I will certainly keep coming back! read more

Best Jamaican patties I have ever had! Love the spicy chicken, spicy beef and the curry. They have lunch specials with the sweet bread, it's too much for me to add the sweet bread, but I get why everyone orders it like that. Very small place, no sitting. Just grab and go.
