Food is good. Few places in Ridgecrest sale grilled fish so it is now one of my few places to go. The reason I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because twice I ordered for pickup from them and twice they forgot some food . First time they forgot my chicken wing order. Luckily they have my number so they called and offered to bring it to me. Second time they forgot my cheesecake. This time they didn't have my number since I ordered it at the front. I was two months after surgery so was still feeling discomfort when getting in and out of the car so didn't go back to ask for it. I will never come back here or would never tell anyone to go here. We were never greeted upon walking in also seek seating by ourselves and waited over 20 minutes waiting to not be served, like we were invisible. They don't like people of color at all here very unpleasant experience. Just watching them serve people around and even attended to someone walking in that we didn't get. read more

My family went there last night after our mother's funeral. My brother and I's families set next to each other in side by side booths. We had 7 in our party and he had 6Hard weekend, thought some good food would nice. I got the steak and shrimp fajitas and there's no sour cream, guacamole or cheese. Just steak, 4 shrimp that came up later and tortillas. The rice was a poor excuse for a Mexican rice and the beans had no flavor. The best part was when we got our check, there was an 18% "service fee" that didn't include a tip, it was over $32 For extra help, we walked in off the street to eat there, only saw too servers and a bartender out front and it took over an hour to get our food. We were both servers and I was a restaurant manager and the only reason they had for the service charge was, it's written on the menu...you got me on a technicality??? For starters, today was my bday and we just got back from a 6 hr drive from Tahoe- we're locals. They (for sure) got an item from my order wrong and we had to wait to get the order fixed... then when we got home we realized they didn't give us an appetizer so I had to drive back to go and get it. Coming from a hospitality background, I know they SHOULD have done something extra to remedy the situation. I'm writing this review as I'm eating and I'll say that the artichoke chicken was fantastic once I reheated it & my fiancé's brisket sandwich wasn't great. Also, the 5-piece Mac n cheese balls were okay, but not worth the $12 and trip back to get them. I'm disappointed to say the least. I feel like the new owners are the ones from the old Mac's restaurant that closed down after Covid and I REALLY wanted to appreciate this experience and come back with friends and we simply didn't enjoy it because of the service. I'm not sure if management was aware of the entire situation, but more SHOULD have been done- we wish we didn't tip on this pickup order because it wasn't earned. read more

Tonight was our first time dining here. Although we stayed at the Clarion Inn the night before we moved to Ridgecrest three years ago, and even walked right by their front doors before; this was the very first time we found out about it. The restaurant is hidden inside the Clarion Hotel, right next to Roxanne's Restaurant. Charlie's sign is sooooo small you'll never notice it You cannot see Charlies from the street because it is hidden inside the Inn's building. They seriously need larger signage. The restaurant is clean and has an amazing vaulted cieling with wood rafters. There is a lot of military pictures and posters and other military decor. It's kinda like the Top Gun movie pub feeling. While we were there I kept saying that they should play music to liven it up the place. I was only going to give them a three star for being average; but 75% of the way through our meal, they finally turned on some music and livened up the atmosphere. So I'm giving them 3 1/2 stars though 4 stars is what I can rate them. Their food is good; had the Moonshine ribs plate with mashed potaoes, onion rings, and a salad. Their menu has a good variety of foods from seafood, Italian, beef dishes, and Mexican food. Sadly, their dessert options were just two types of cheese cake. A place like that should have Chocolate Lava Cake with a scoop of vanillia ice cream on top. Or a hot fudge sundae with whip cream, nuts and a cherry on top. They have the potential to easily be a RC five star; but they just aren't trying hard enough and missing a lot more business. I do recommend them, and I will definitely go again. read more

Our favorite waitress is Liz, she's the best! I see the same waitreses there all the time, and staff. This tells for great business, because it shows no overturn with this restaurant. The same great service from staff every time we go. My Fiancé, and I love the chop salad, chix alfredo, and calamari. The bartender is great too. Charlie's is still quiet place for dinner with good food. The food and drinks are relatively inexpensive. The service is attentive but not overbearing. For those who us to frequent years ago only to see prices surge & service suffer, those times seemed to have changed with the change of ownership in the hotel several years ago. I had the lobster ravioli with Alfredo and it was amazing. My husband had the carne asada fries and they were just as good. Our friends had tacos and a sandwich and said theirs were amazing too. If they had a neg rating I'd gladly offer it up. Ordered a burger and you'd think with a ground beef patty, bun veggies what could go wrong? Plenty in this case. Tasted like a school cafeteria hamburger... you know what I mean.... Pre made hamburger reheated in a foil pouch. Either the ground beef was not fresh or it was frozen and premade by a less than optimal supplier. Onion rings? Again tasted like it came out of a frozen box. Do they not believe in preparing food from scratch? Wife got chicken picatta and that was a epic failure as well. Chicken was pounded so thin it was probably 2-3mm thick. I wish I was joking. The rest was thin breading and the whole thing was covered in a opaque white cream. While I'm sure there might be people that enjoy the beer and atmosphere I doubt anyone goes here for the food. read more

The service was not good at all. My party of 3 came in and about 5-6 minutes after a couple comes in and they get service right away and at 10 minutes still we have just waters. And the food . I wanted a real meal with family I haven't seen in 1 year. And our food was huh dry,burned,hard, falling apart and the prices are crazy high for food I cook at home and way better too. . The best part of staying at the downtrodden Comfort Inn was getting to choose any item from a real breakfast menu for free, instead of the usual hotel morning mashup. Charlie's opens at 5am and my choice of the breakfast croissant with eggs, bacon and cheese was executed perfectly. It came with a side of home fries and these had alot of peppers and were nicely seasoned. They even gave me the whole shebang to go with coffee as well. This place is worthy of a breakfast stop even if your not staying next door. read more

Service at Charlie's was terrible. I ordered a steak for pickup and was told it would be 30 min. I walk over in the heat and wait an additional 30 minutes. I ask for a status update on my food and was told they had no idea??? What???? I asked for a refund so I could get my food elsewhere. The nice young lady tells me that my steak is done and they are getting the sides and it won't be much longer so I take a seat and continue to wait. A few minutes later a waitress brings me a receipt to sign for my refund, telling me that they are busy and all of these customers are before me... honestly, if the just would have told me the actual wait time then I wouldn't have had a problem. This is my choice bar when I come back to Ridgecrest. It's quiet and quaint. I'm not bothered by anybody. Sometimes you run into people you know here, but not like Tommy T's where it's a high school reunion every Friday night and especially on the weekend. This is the only decent bar in Ridgecrest. I can say that now that I have been inside Tommy T's. Sporting events are big here, which can be a negative if you're not into drinking or eating with a room full of men shrieking at the multiple tv's like fifth graders with uncontrollable hormone surges. If you're rooting for their team, or go on a night when sports are not the main attraction, this place has a great bar atmosphere. If you're a military aviation buff, NAWCWD contractor, government employee or active duty, the walls are a virtual shrine -- even if you're not really into it, there are some cool pictures. There's plenty of seating, and a decent bar-food menu. The drinks are good, the wine list is surprisingly good for this town, and there's room to stand and hang out, if that's your thing. I especially like that the wine is served in these cute single serving mini-carafes... I don't know why, I think that's a nice touch! The jukebox is great (maybe not if your'e 24, but it works for me, a woman of a certain age...ahem), and I'm always happy to find a pool table that isn't being run by 24-year old frat boys (though I can take 'em -- or at least I think so after a couple drinks!). The one down side may be the service... I think the service is a bit spotty because this place is never consistently busy, so it's probably hard to staff adequately. Having found myself served quickly at lots of packed bars when I lived in big cities, it is pretty disappointing to stand at the bar for twenty minutes before the bartender manages to get your order (and potentially another 10 before you're served). A relaxing place! The ambiance was nice since it was lit by candles and each table had a tablecloth. The chairs are also comfy. The staff was attentive and pleasant. There is plenty to look at with the pictures on the wall and a variety of televisions. I liked the jazz music selection mixed with Sade (one of my favorites). The patrons were an older crowd, and it was fun to people-watch here since they were all meeting up with friends (lots of hugs and toasting in the New Year). The food was great. The clam chowder was homemade and had a very decent taste. I liked the fresh garden salad. We had grilled orange chicken skewers and it was perfectly grilled. My family came in for dinner to Charlie's after appraising a few other places that weren't too far away from the house. The restaurant (or lounge) is within a motel, so parking is not too difficult to find at night. It definitely does not have the feel of a proper sit-down place, though - much more of a sports bar, with TVs everywhere, a couple pool tables in the back, a bar at the front, and what can be generously described as mediocre furnishings for regular dining. The table we were put at was still quite messy from the previous folks who were sitting there, and the service was pretty inattentive - it took us quite some time for the waitress to come over and take our order. I ended up going with one of the daily specials - the breaded chicken breast cooked in balsamic vinaigrette. I actually liked the flavoring of the balsamic, as it was well-cooked into the breast - so at least each bite had a nice little acidity to it. As for the chicken itself - I probably could have cooked it better without trying...very tough to eat, and I don't really think it was a chicken breast; the thinness of the chicken suggested that it was a cutlet at best. Either way, it was one of the driest pieces of meat I've had in some time. The sides were also carelessly served on the plate, with the gravy from the mashed potatoes (which didn't really have much flavor to them) running into the chicken...gravy and balsamic do not mix terribly well. While I was filled after dinner, I definitely came out disappointed with the quality, particularly as it was a special and was one of the more expensive items on the menu. Charlie's seems like an okay place to hang out to watch sports - and it feels quite big with very high ceilings - but I'd probably look to eat elsewhere in town. read more

Used to love the food here, but the menu has changed, less selections are offered, especially dinner. We went last night, I was so looking forward to my meal. No one seats you, we stood for several minutes before someone just waved us in from the back. I ordered the tilapia and started on my salad. I ordered a Long Island ice tea and the waitress didn't have a clue what I asked for; ok, I can accept that. My tilapia came and it was spoiled. Disgusting. Service was so slow, only maybe 3 other tables with guests so I don't understand why it took so long. I was offered another meal but by the time I would have received it my family would be done and watching/waiting while I ate...so I declined. I ate some of the baked potato but was so upset that I walked out and waited for my family to finish up. I don't think we will return. read more

Stayed at the Carriage Inn for a few days last month. Nine of us ate at Charlie's our first night. We grabbed a few cold beers and some other drinks....so far so good. We got some appetizers, onion rings, and all was very tasty. Three of us ordered steaks, 2 new yorks and 1 rib eye. I believe that the chef had one single 2-inch steak left in the freezer, so instead of serving it, he sliced vertically in three even pieces, each 0.66 inches thick! By the time we got them (and yes they all looked identical) they were 1/2 inch thick! On top of that, there must've been 25% of the "steak" just fat and grizzle. The portion that was edible tasted good, but it was ridiculous. I guess I shouldn't have expected to eat a decent meal in Ridgecrest. read more
