For a simple desert drive-in, this place checks all the boxes. The classic cheeseburger was just that: a well cooked patty, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, and nice warm soft bun. The amazing town of Trona has been through so much but the people still here live up to the saying "Trona Strong"! The long timers bleed Trona Blue for sure. We stoped by the Trails hamburger spot and were greeted by the owner who had an amazing spirit and energy. Born and raised in Trona, Danielle made us feel like we were always next door neighbors. We ordered the cheese burgers with everything, fried pickles (large please), hot fudge shake as well as peanut butter shake. Taste was unbelievable! Burgers cooked perfect. Fried pickles were incredible and could become very addictive. Words fail to describe the shake experience which was out of this world. The peanut butter is a must. The food was great and more importantly the feeling is one you might expect coming home from a long journey...peaceful, refreshed, renewed. Everyone should rally to support TRAILS. Kind of unexpected, comforting little fast food joint. They have hamburgers, fish and chips, burrito, all the things you might be craving as you are on a road trip. Everyone in my family was happy with what they got. Food was simple and fresh. My daughter was happy with crispy fried fish and hubby was happy with fried zucchini. Recommend this pit stop. We stopped by Trail Drive In on our way to Death Valley. The cutest little food stand great tasting food, friendly service and exceptionally clean restrooms. The place is so darn cute, retro history, there is historic history behind the place, it takes you back to memory land to simpler times and great tasting food. I ordered the veggie burger with a large order of fries . First of all it was the best tasting veggie burger I have tasted, plentitud, filling and not dry. For those that are more meat eaters they had other good sections, chicken burgers, cheese burgers, Rubens, ext... great menu selection and ice cream floats . Wonderful roadside hamburger stand. I was not expecting to find something this good in the middle of the desert. Service was prompt and courteous. I'm a sucker for large wooden roadside ice cream signs. So when we had survived 20 miles of low-AC operation (because this is Death Valley folks) driving out of the park, managed not to burn our brakes, and that welcoming soft-serve icon came into view, we stopped. Everybody had soft-serve, mostly choc-vanilla swirl, and it was good stuff. The cones and servings were decently priced as well. The ice cream was perfect consistency and there are four size choices plus shakes and sundaes on the menu if that's your deal. Several other people entered and ordered, liking their regular food (meaning not ice cream) while we were there. But for us, just the cream thanks. Provender: I was on my way to Death Valley when I dropped by. This is a fantastic joint to grab a burger. The staff were all friendly and the food delicious. Prices: a burger and drink will run you just under $6. Parking: there is a dedicated lot adjacent to the building. There are a lot of spaces, so parking shouldn't be an issue. People: fun for all ages. Perks: I think this is a great place to grab a bite to eat if you're on your way to Death Valley. It's about the midway point from LA , and the food is well made. I just moved to Trona and I really appreciate this place. I eat there at least once a week. The owner was great about giving me advice about Trona utilities etc when I moved here alone. The food is made with love. My fave is the chicken salad with grilled chicken. I appreciate they have a small soft serve cone for 99 cents for us broke and weight conscious types. This place gets five stars just for having shredded lettuce on their cheeseburgers. No one else wthin a hundred miles has shredded lettuce on their cheesburgers. Shredded lettuce is a hundred times better than leafed lettuce on cheeseburgers. Plus they have crispy crinkke cut fries that are really good. The music that they play on the speaker is good too! I may have to drive for over half an hour just to get shredded lettuce on my cheeseburgers but it will be worth it. Just a heads up; the prices on the menu have changed since they were posted. The prices have doubled since then. The prices for everything have gone up in America; so don't be surprised when you see the new prices. read more

Great little hamburger joint! I've been eating at Trails for around 55 years and it's always been great! And these newest owners are over the top with service, quality, and pricing. I would give 3 stars but their location is saving you from hunger while you are going to death valley if you don't get any meal with you. Their fries is really good but I can't say the same for western burger. It's portion small and has unpleasant pastrami. But still you can enjoy if you don't order anything with pastrami. read more

Trona is the setting for every horror movie you've ever seen but it hides a delicious secret: Trails Drive In. This place is in the middle of nowhere and can easily be missed as you drive through Trona but it's definitely worth a stop. The only thing I have ordered here again and again because it is so darn good is the Western Burger. Let me describe it for you: Pastrami, beef patty, BBQ sauce, onion rings, jalapeños and cheese ALL IN THE SAME BURGER! If I could give an even worse rating I would! Absolutely the worst service! I brought back in my large "lawrys seasoned" fries because they were made with regular salt and got told the burnt fry bits from their dirty oil was the seasoning!!! And then given a refund and told to get out! I got this from the owner! Picnic tables welcome visitors outside and bench-style tables are available inside. The menu is reasonably priced and has many options for quick dining, including generously sized milkshakes, "tornados" (thick milkshake with choice of toppings), and occasional specials. Today, the special is pulled pork with a side of fried okra. Omnivores will have great luck here, but vegetarians will find something delicious also.
