It's a country diner, with booth seating and 50s oldies playing softly in the background. We were seated promptly and drink order taken right away. Coffee has free refills. I had the Country Benedict, which is a sausage patty and an egg on top of a biscuit and covered with gravy, served with hash browns. The egg was over easy, and the yolk, when broken, blended deliciously with the gravy. The hash browns were crisp and fresh - very good. The biscuit was buttered, which was a pleasant surprise. They pay attention to small details like that here. Mr. P enjoyed his burger, which came with fresh onions, tomato and lettuce on a specialty bun. The burger was smashed, yet very juicy. His fries were golden brown crisp and cut thick. He liked them a lot. This was easily the best diner breakfast I've had in a long while. This breakfast spot gives an old diner feel to it which I love. They have so many options and prices are so cheap. I had gotten a waffle combo with scrambled eggs + bacon along with a side of hashbrowns. My bf got the meat lovers omelette with hasbrowns and toast. It's difficult to give an accurate rating for this place because my kids and I like coming here, but their recipes are just pathetic. On top of that, you're paying more than you should for the quality and flavor, which really shouldn't be happening. Tonight we tried the fettuccine alfredo, and it was flavorless. Alfredo sauce is so easy to make from scratch at home and is phenomenal with so few ingredients. The two items that never let us down are the club sandwich and the burgers. Those are always good. Hungry and felt like I was in the middle of nowhere (Ridgecrest is pretty small town) ... Yelped the best place to grab a bite to eat and found Kristy's Family diner. Our party of seven was seated fairly quickly and greeted pretty promptly with servers bringing water. Variety of food options, but I was craving a burger. So I ordered an Avocado Burger which came with French fries. Portion size was good for the price and taste pretty decent. I don't recall my waitress's name, but she was friendly and attentive. Restaurant was packed at the time we arrived. Moderately sized free parking lot. Bathrooms are small, could use some work, but at least the toilet flushes and there was toilet paper. For whatever reason, we'd never been here before. We'd had a long day, and Kristy's is walking distance from our favorite motel. So we walked down to get some dinner and were a little surprised that it wasn't as busy as we expected at around 7pm. We loved the old photos on the wall. Hubby walked around and had fun looking at them. The next day, when we were headed out, he pointed out where the Bamboo Hut(?) used to be! When we entered, we weren't sure at first if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait, and a nice gentleman showed up quickly and told us to sit anywhere. Our server popped by to let us know the specials and took our order. The food arrived promptly and was well executed. We both chose the soup. It was very tasty. They said it was "minestrone" but not like any I've ever had. I didn't quibble since I enjoyed it. It was slightly on the salty side but again, it was tasty and enjoyable. I had the Santa Fe chicken. The grilled chicken breast was moist on the inside, had just the right amount of cheese and salsa on top, and was really pleasant. There were two breasts but I could only finish one since it was later, we were tired, and didn't want to eat too much before bed time. There was also this delicious white corn that was sweet and had a nice herbed butter on it. And I chose the baked potato with sour cream. I was happy. Hubby chose the fried prawns and fries. He also had the corn. He enjoyed his dinner but wished they'd warmed up the cocktail sauce before bringing it out as it was icy cold in the center. So I do recommend them as the food was delicious and the service was attentive. I'd like to try them for breakfast and lunch as well. read more

TL;DR Service -- Everybody there was genuinely nice, welcoming, helpful, efficient, caring. Going out of their way. Food -- Outrageously good; almost "too-good-for-Ridgecrest-good" (sorry, no offense, R/C, but you know what I mean). Outrageous variety offered, and from what I could see, everything delivered A+. Prices -- excellent for what you get, and in today's economy with higher prices everywhere. Flavor -- extremely good. Quality -- excellent. We will be back next visit to R/C! Background: We were a party of 3. I was born and grew up in Ridgecrest, so I know it well. I am very familiar with what it has to offer (and what it doesn't). For the last 30 years I have lived in major cities and traveled the world; we are real foodies. Kristy's FAR exceeded my expectations of Ridgecrest could offer (no offense, Ridgecrest, LOL!). Part of my family still lives here so I am here several times a year eating at old/new restaurants... This was my first time to Kristy's, although I'd seen it forever... we hadn't been to Kristy's in a long time.(We had a problem with a server. messed up order twice). We walked in and the guy that greeted us asked about our service dog. then took the condiments off the table and said we had to eat with plastic ware because someone fed their dog with the spoon they were eating with(never heard of that before). we walked out. We have a Hypoallergenic dog that is probably cleaner than most people. if we share with our dog we feed her by hand ( not spoon etc.). There were 6 of us, and we were lucky enough to get the last table. Cinnamon was our server, and she was friendly and had great recommendations. Up in Ridgecrest for work last week and I was craving breakfast so I stopped by Kristy's. Went for eggs benedict as that's my all time favorite breakfast dish and I wasn't disappointed. The eggs were well cooked and the ham was nice thick sliced ham. Muffins were toasted well, the only thing that could have been better was the hollandaise. Pretty sure that was packaged sauce, it wasn't made in house or if it was it needs some work. It was good and the price was very reasonable for what I got just need to touch up that hollandaise a little bit and it would be an A+ read more

Kristy's is a Ridgecrest staple. My parents started going here in the 1980's and I still love the place. Good food nice calm atmosphere, good for informal dates or conversations. Amazing food! If we could cook like them at home, we'd all weigh 500 pounds! All breakfast items were the best we've had in a long time. From our table, the favorites were the hash browns (perfectly cooked and not greasy) and pancakes (light, fluffy, and savory)! The burritos didn't last very long either. Service was great also. The food seems as if it was left under a heat lamp all day before serving it to you. I was staying in Ridgecrest for the night and had done a search on Yelp for breakfast places. This was one of two I bookmarked. As it turned out, it was a short walk from my motel to Kristy's so I walked. It was a little after 7 AM and the place was not crowded. The restaurant is old but it was clean and the service was good. I was given the option of sitting at the counter or at a booth when I entered, and I chose a booth. I was brought coffee and their menu quickly. I opted for the spinach omelette. I ordered hash browns but got home fries instead. You have your choice. That was no big deal. The only thing I'd critique about the omelette was the cheese on the trop of it was liquid cheese like you'd use on a plate of nachos. Inside, the omelette had a good amount of mushrooms, peppers, onions, and cheese. I was given refills of my coffee and since I had a distance to drive to get home, I turned down even more refills. Although where I stayed had a free breakfast, I like to go away from the motel and try something the locals would go to. Kristy's is not elegant but the food and service were solid. read more

This morning we ordered the $10 breakfast. When our plates arrived, my bacon looked half raw. I was gonna one star them. The good news is that Vanessa replaced it with a perfectly crispy strip of bacon. The food was great. We really enjoyed the breakfast and I highly recommend the breakfast special as it is a great value. I doubt anyone can beat this breakfast deal. Request Vanessa because she is thee best waitress in town. She was super friendly, checked on us regularly, and she was very professional and efficient. There aren't really many alternatives in Ridgecrest, but this particular restaurant turned out to be just fine. The food was good and the service was fine. I ordered the french toast, which was served just the way I like it -- golden brown. My only complaint was that this place did get quite busy and that can be a concern given the Covid situation. Clean, borderline super clean inside. Service was amazingly attentive from the moment we walked in until we left. I like hitting little family owned places when we travel, and this place certainly foots the bill. We were in the area for a utv race and had a hotel near by so we thought we would give it a try. Didn't let us down. I had the jalapeno melt burger and it was fantastic, the onion rings are home made and you can tell. Iced tea was near perfect. I'm giving it 2 stars because the waitress was super friendly and kept checking on us. We stopped in Ridgecrest on our way to Death Valley. We were a group of friends and we all ordered different things. I don't think anyone enjoyed their food to be honest. I'm not sure where the high ratings are coming from lol maybe they are locals ? (no offense) Cause this wasn't it. A couple of us ordered a cappuccino... It was borderline hot chocolate.. we thought they gave us the wrong drink so we asked the waiter and she was kind enough to bring us another one, but yeah it was the same disappointing drink. I stopped taking pictures after my second bite because I became cranky. I will say the pancakes were good but that was about it. They definitely need for vegetarian and vegan options for any tourists stopping by. Do your research though, and find other places on the area worth your money. read more

The servers and hosts were super nice. But the food is just stunningly poor. Barely warm. Barely seasoned. French toast at our table of 5 was the highlight and literally everything else was meh. Gravy is a joke. I understand locals wanting to rave on a place that's been around a long time but that just means you've settled for mediocre. Longevity doesn't equal good. Or craveable. Or edible. And the final spoiler alert: I ate here in the 1970s when it was called King Kow steakhouse. That was the last time I really enjoyed a meal here. Classic diner feel, even though there's a sign inside that says "Kristy's Fine Dining." Ordered the Roast Beef Dinner. Came with roast beef and mashed potatoes covered in brown gravy, and the vegetable of the day - which happened to be mixed vegetables. The vegetables were terrible. Definitely frozen out of a bag, but also had a terrible taste to them. The mashed potatoes weren't terrible, but could have been better. The roast beef was good. Definitely the redeeming portion of the meal. Luckily there was a good amount of it. The prices have gone up, substantially for some meals, in the last couple years. My guess would be to cover lost costs due to COVID. The old menus that are posted can be compared to the ones I posted. $3 increase for the Roast Beef Dinner. $16 for a meal that I could only eat a portion of isn't worth it. $13 is a better value, even if I could have eaten the veggies. I'm in the hotel in one of the most random large towns (or small cities) I've ever been to, with tens of thousands of people located well off the highway, not even visible from it! As it's getting dark, I see a ton of restaurants, and ask the hotel for a recommendation. On the desk is a menu for the one next door. The idea of walking is appealing, so even though I'm not generally one to seek out American food, sure, why not? (The other highly ranked walkable place was seafood, which is definitely more expensive and I'm not near a coastline...) So over I go. In no particular order: * Food was pretty good. As I type this it's sitting solidly in my stomach, making my body nice and happy. I didn't order anything special, but I was thinking Mexican (being in central CA after all) so I went for the Mexican dinner - pork shoulder in tomatillo jalapeno sauce, beans, rice, tortillas. (I note this because online menus aren't updated, and this is new - probably because the chefs and half the staff are from south of the border! So that's a welcome change!) The food was the right amount for the four tortillas, which was the right amount for a meal overall. Usually I'd get a lot more rice with a meal, but usually rice gets left over or is being eaten slowly on a full stomach, so that's okay! It's not Mexican rice, I can say that for a fact. The beans were OK. The meat was the best part with the sauce and just a hint of heat. So overall I'm glad I got that. Took home some dessert - it's pastry procured from a local place, not made in restaurant but not store brand either. I won't hold Kristy's to that either way, but $4 is a good price for dessert. * Atmosphere is fine, it feels like a New Jersey diner and I told them just that! With the multi-page menu, open floorplan with simple tables, waitstaff walking around... total diner vibe. I never left home. * Service was great. I was there at 7:30, it closes at 8, but there were a mix of people there. Any time I wanted attention, I got it immediately. Waitress was very personable and gave me whatever I needed. I asked for two dimes in the tip tray for my east-coast coin collection (Denver mint mark, shiny and new) and left a dollar in exchange. She was fine with that (: And so was I because apparently the hotel has a deal with the restaurant! That'd explain the menu being on the counter! Overall, if you said "pick a Ridgecrest restaurant" I wouldn't go for a diner. But if that's your sorta thing, this is definitely your place. read more

I had my simple breakfast because I can't eat much anyway, but hubby ordered the Country Benedict biscuits & gravy and sauce patty with eggs and hash brown.
