The BEST gym in Charlotte! After relocating and dealing with overcrowded gyms in Southend I decided to take up the search for a new gym! On Friday night I discovered the Charlotte Athletic Club durning a google search. Unfortunately they did not have pricing information online however I was able to submit a request and Steve texted me 1st thing Saturday morning to book a tour the same day. The GYM is just amazing! It's clean, with a ton of equipment and space for a stress feee workout. The locker rooms are upgraded and include both a sauna, and a steam room! I am so glad that I made the pivot to this gym! The energy is amazing, the staff is friendly and there are a ton of classes and free perks included in the membership! 5 stars is not enough! I rank this gym a 10 ! read more

I recently moved from Denver, CO and joined Charlotte Athletic Club primarily for the location and walkability to Uptown. From signup through cancellation, the experience was consistently poor. The signup process was unnecessarily difficult. You cannot sign up online or over the phone and must come in person. I arrived during hours I was told a manager would be present, only to find they had left early, requiring an additional visit to complete enrollment. The gym charges $150 per month per person, with additional costs for lockers, an extra month (extra $150) due on signup, and a facility improvement fee every six months. Despite the price, there is no coat rack or place to store even a jacket. Communication is "you must pay an extra amount for lockers each month" even though lockers are framed as an optional amenity. Charging for lockers in the first place is grubby. Every gym I've attended in the past includes them for free. Pool access is advertised. The pool is actually pool access passes included in membership to the Omni Hotel pool, we were told it was to be opened fall 2025, it has remained closed. This was communicated after signup. The equipment itself is fine, but there is no water bottle refill station, and the water available specifically says "don't fill your water bottle up". It's a gym. Who wants to use a small paper open top cup when working out. Bathrooms are often not clean. If you're coming in in the afternoon for workouts, the gym maintenance and cleaning happens then, so expect some vacuuming and hammering happening most days. But my primary issue is the staff experience relative to the price point. Front desk staff are often disengaged. A trainer instructed us to re rack weights that we didn't use. When we told him they were there before we used the machine he communicated "clean them up anyways". I rack weights when done using them. For $150 a month, if another gym member leaves weights behind, and this is noticed by the staff, I'd expect gym staff to care for the cleanup of other members weights left behind. And especially the first time, just unnecessarily hostile and unfriendly. There are many more similar interactions like this with staff. After I canceled my membership and requested my wife's remain active, a manager approached her requesting credit card information, the implication being "don't forget to pay" in a way that felt inappropriate. This is acceptable at a lower priced gym. Again, it's not what I expect at this price point. This is a premium priced gym with a good location and adequate equipment, but the service level does not match. I'm switching to another gym in the area. read more

And what about advertising "all classes included" however all of these indicate again, the lack of transparency that these class descriptions in RED are not... This gym is a scam. They make it nearly impossible to cancel a membership. I went in person to cancel my membership, was told they "need it in writing" and to email the manager, Deviosier. I emailed him every single day for a week with zero response, and when I finally got him on the phone he said he would cancel and send me confirmation... then hung up and never followed through. I had to send multiple emails to finally get this flake to cancel my membership The person they tell you to contact to cancel your membership, Deviosier, will ignore your written cancellation requests then lie and pretend it was in junk email. Totally unprofessional, dishonest, and predatory business practices. Save yourself the headache and sign up anywhere else. read more

I'll preface this by saying the gym, and day to day staff, maintenance team, etc. were all super friendly and great to work with. The gym in itself is great, really enjoyed my time there, plus they validate parking. My biggest issue is I was relocated for work, and gave a 20 day notice of this. In fact, it even says in the contract that if you are relocated more than 8 miles (520 for me), you can be refunded for any "unused services" to which the GM responded, "The agreement is a little confusing - unused services is referencing things such as personal training, massage, locker etc." Despite my attempts I was still charged, and it appears they like to twist the words of the contract to when it is convenient for them. The GM acknowledged the contract is poorly worded, and still didn't do the right thing. I physically couldn't be there to use the services, and was still charged. Can't recommend doing business with a company that exhibits this type of customer service. read more

I traveled to the omni hotel frequently and liked this gym very much. But it is now November of 2022 and this place is a D-U-M-P! Super smelly locker rooms (because people leave their shoes out... overnight?). Mold in the showers. This place is low rent and you can tell they haven't spent a dollar to fix it up since the start of COVID (maybe before). dim, grim... it's what i expect in a YMCA in Queens, except those are probably nicer. Was a member for three years and loved it but the uptown Golds recently closed and management decided to absorb their membership. The place turned into Golds gym overnight. However, while management decided to honor existing golds gym members contracts/rates, they still expected us legacy CAC members to pay our premium rates for an immediately much inferior product. When I asked management for a decreased rate commensurate to the new product, I was told they are actually going to INCREASE rates. I cancelled and joined they Y. Half the price and better equipment with more locations - the crowds are currently about the same at the new CAC plus golds as at many Y locations. I was paying a premium at CAC to avoid the crowds. Maybe they will sort things out but as currently stands it's not worth paying a premium for this gym. Or maybe they will go out of business. read more

The equipment is always broken, the steam room often down for weeks and the locker rooms dirty- the membership prices have gone up - youre charged a fee 2 or 3 times a year to improve the gym and its facilities and nothing is ever improved. High turnover of employees that should tell you something. Dont believe the hype. This place is a joke. read more

Impossible to get in contact with him when you have an issue, as he will just ignore your emails and calls/voicemails, and then the issue just gets worse. The Charlotte Athletic Club is a gem in Uptown. It's loaded with equipment and friendly staff. Steam, sauna, basketball, TRX room, yoga, etc. One stop shop for all of your fitness needs. Steve Edmunds, the manager, is great. He is extremely attentive to his members and the gym. I always see that guy cleaning up, racking weights and keeping the place pristine. I have high expectations since this is supposed to be the premier club in the area. Overall I would give between 3 and 4 stars. I've been going here over a month. I love the space in the club! The first floor is two story with lots of room in between the equipment. Very airy and open. Lots of windows along the cardio wall so it is a great environment. There is a lot of variety to the equipment and I never have to wait. I enjoy working out here. There is a lot of staff around and they are always friendly and helpful. Location is great and there is validated parking in the building. You can park and take the elevator nearly right up to the club entrance. On the minus side, some things are in need of some updating. There is a great cardio area along the windows, but you have to look out on a mass of tangle wires and beat-up power strips and dirty window sills. Could be a lot better. I think you can ditch the dated individual video monitors that are postage stamp size...I've never seen anyone use them. Also not impressed with the locker rooms. The area is very crammed and are looking very dated. Not a lot of ventilation in there so it never seems very fresh...even though they are constantly cleaning. If you do not pay for a monthly locker you need to use the "guest" lockers. The "guest" lockers are literally in the hallway by the door...so you have try to change in the middle of a constant stream of people walking thru this narrow space. The lockers are so small you can barely fit your clothes in there. Disappointing. I'm guessing this is the premier club in Charlotte, but it is not quite up to the level I have experienced in other cities (for the price). Thus the 3.5 stars. read more

I've been a member of the Charlotte Athletic Club for years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. The location is convenient if you live/work in the uptown area. They validate your parking for 2 hours everyday and if the deck is full because of an event at the Omni Hotel they have another deck just down the street you can use and again your parking is still validated. The staff is amazing! They all work so hard, are super friendly and go above and beyond. They've always helped me with everything I've ever needed, greet me with a smile and always have made me feel so welcomed and valued. The gym itself has made some awesome upgrades this last few years with new equipment, they're always changing and offering new classes which I love and have a big variety going on all day. As an avid runner I love all of the stretching classes, sauna/steam room and equipment. The gym is never too crowded and you can always use what you want or within a reasonable time frame-which is also a big perk for a smaller gym! They also have a basketball court which is smaller than regulation size but you can still shoot hoops and it's usualky not being used at the times I've been there, again which I love. Overall, I love being a member of CAC and would recommend to everyone. read more

Scheduling and setup by Cayleb was very professional. He gave me directions, made my reservation, set up the room, gave me the treatment and made me feel at ease. As for the cryotherapy, it is cold but not in a cold weather way more like being in snow naked, way beyond cold and slightly into discomfort if you can take it. The first session was to be 2mins or so I could only go 1 min15 partially because I'm short and had to stand on a foam support which was a bit wobbly so I was afraid of touching the walls and I was losing my balance. Wear hair up, be ready for 2+ mins of intense cold/burning sensation not painful just uncomfortable to an extent. The result, immediately felt relief from all over inflammation (I suffer from with Fibromyalgia) and a feeling of stimulation, blood flow. My neck didn't get the effect as your head has to be out so that was a negative since I have an injury there I am wanting to treat. Next time I will be ready to try to stay longer, will see if I can avoid using the foam and will bring own socks I think;) I have 4 more sessions and I'm in a full injury / fibro flare up so we will see if this calms it down. I think an ice bath at home might be beneficial after seeing the immediate results of the cryotherapy. read more

Always clean and always greeted with smiling faces at this gym. I love it here, with its prime location and all of the many amenities such as classes, a basketball court, weights, functional equipment, sauna, steam room and full showers too. I love that I can take a class while I'm there or work out on the cardio machines/lift weights on my own time. I would give this place four stars if it wasn't so overpriced. With this being the premier sports club in the area, I have very high expectations - and Charlotte Athletic Club really doesn't fit up to the high standard. Overall, this club is ok: it has all the equipment you need, plenty of space, and a variety of classes. However; it really doesn't live up to the hype of being a premier club. The machines are out of services for weeks at a time, there isn't quite enough equipment for peak times (considering this club is shared with The Omni Hotel guests), and the classes are limited. When signing up we were told we would have access to a pool; however, the pool has been out of commission for almost a year now - and it isn't even a lap pool. The promised pool is a small circular pool that is shared with The Omni hotel. One of the many promises we were told upon signing onto the club (we were also told that their would be a larger number of classes at more times, but the classes never change) Overall, this gym is fine. It's going to get the job done, and will have everything you need. But, it's definitely overpriced. If this club was in a city that had more options, I do not think it would have as good of a clientele that it does now. But, until Uptown gets more options - this is as good as it can get. read more

Eh? How is it that no one has reviewed this place? (Tilts head). There's so much to love about this place, especially as it relates to competition. I was a loyal "Y" member for years but after a while I tired of the annoyances- hard to find parking, busy cardio areas, grimy showers, nasty pool and naked people walking all around (yes I'm a prude) while getting ready. Plus it wasn't that cheap after all so I finally gave up my membership and started going to CAC. Even though I don't work uptown, it's an easy light rail walk through Epicentre or they validate parking all day long and the deck is very easy to park / navigate unlike the M.C. Escher parking deck of the Hyatt! There are so many things to love about Charlotte Athletic Club- they cap their membership so it's never too busy to get on a machine. They have state of the art machines that are different than I've ever seen, one of which is self-powered curving treadmill that burns way more calories (and you feel it!!) than normal ones. They have great trainers, some good group exercise classes (my friend does the TRX and swears by it). I haven't tried the yoga, squash or basketball courts yet. There are people serious about their fitness (and I think some professional athletes) but it's much more executive feeling than meathead. Personally what converted me is the stuff behind the scenes- the locker room is more like a country club or resort (they have a nice spa room for massages btw), and optional locker service includes laundry service!! This means you will never fight your way into a parking space, get partially changed and remember you forgot your sports bra. They even have lots of TVs in the locker room so you can catch up on whatever while changing. The coves are small so it's infrequent you'll be changing at the same time as someone else. The sauna and steam room are impeccable and they even have extended shower stalls so you have room to have room to shave without flashing your goods to the world, or you have room to hang your robe w/o it getting soaked! The only slight complaint about this place is that the water pressure could be a little stronger. They also provide razors, shaving cream, conditioner, mouthwash and the like... My favorite feature? The water. Seriously - they have apple or citrus infused water every day and it just adds to the experience and makes me feel welcome. :) All in all, for just a bit more than the Y, I think it's totally worth it. read more

It starts with the gym employees who are obviously on a mission (they just love the place) and were friendly and helpful beyond anything I've seen. And of course a beautiful facility with top of the line equipment. Sparkling clean and just a great vibe. Oh and the locker rooms are one of the best I ever saw - 5 star hotel level. Great gym in a great location! Being so close to work means you can stop by before or after work and work out, shower, and get going with your day. Laundry service is prompt - they definitely stick to the three hour window. Gym format is also nice, as there are lots of machines and many different areas to work. Stay away!!! Yikes!! Terrible atmosphere, only a few people working out when I went in, incredibly rude staff. I called the gym to see if I could come in to try it out and was told I could come in anytime and they would set me up and show me around. So I came in the next day, I was soon to discover the mastery of rudeness they have achieved at this location. I received two unwelcoming stares when I walked in, and they said they in fact do not allow people to try out the gym and wouldn't even show me around. I was told to call a number and they would have a discussion with me after which they would *decide* if they want to show me around. Highly don't recommend! And if you go, good luck!! read more

Oh man where do I begin. The Athletic Club is by far one of my favorite things about Charlotte. I had been a member at the YMCA for a while and never really felt comfortable, but it is 100% opposite. Let me disclaim that this is a high end place, it is expensive but very very well worth it. The machines are very quality, and they do a great job maintaining them. Everyone you interact with at the super friendly - go there once or twice and they will know you by name. I have a locker and it is outstanding to have the laundry service - it enables you to go straight from work and not have to pack a gym bag. I've been going to Charlotte Athletic Club for over three years now. I can't imagine going anywhere else. The trainers and other members are like family at this point. All the trainers strive to get to know each member and support them in all of their goals, even life goals outside of the gym. I planned a charity event and the gym staff advertised it to all members - without me asking. The other members are so welcoming as well, regardless of what stage you're in in your fitness journey. I have been with the club for a couple of months now. I left my previous gym to get out of their 24 month contract and empty promises. I have been nothing but pleased with everything and everyone at the club. The entire club is kept very clean and that is something I wasn't accustomed to at my previous gym. The locker rooms are very large and have plenty of shower stalls so waiting on an open stall is not an issue. The laundry service is excellent and it seems as though my clothes are ready for me before the end of they day. They have different kinds of group classes that my wife enjoys and I love the fact that there is a basketball court. I cannot wait for the pool to open up this summer. It is included with the membership although it is owned by the Omni hotel from my understanding. Hours can fit pretty much anyone's schedule. Keep up the great work! read more

I am a dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and I am currently finish up a run here in Charlotte. We are staying at the Omni where this gym is across the lobby and gives access to its hotel guests. I and a colleague was confronted by, in which I now know is the GM, telling us we couldn't train someone in the gym. I immediately want him to know that we were just friends working out and not trying to poach on his clients or trainers. He proceeded to say " I'm not dumb, I see you." So I again immediately tell him we are members of The Ailey company and just trying to workout. He then tells us to try not to make it so obvious and walked away. What the what!!!!!???? So of course the rest of the workout was a bust. We then walked to the desk attendant and ask to speak to the GM which turns out to be him. We then let him know how rude and unprofessional that was. He seem to just dismiss us with a heartless apology. I don't want to say if it was racial but it sure did feel a bit that way. And I don't know exactly but in these times one should be cognizant. Just completely ruined my workout session with nonsense. Once I stated who we were then a change in his demeanor should of happened yet he proceeded with his nasty accusations. So if you are corporate for this company I'd advised having a conversation with this guy. read more

I've been a member of a number of different gyms over the years and I can say without question the Charlotte Athletic Club is the best. The facilities and equipment are state of the art. While located in the heart of uptown, there is plenty of space. I've been a member at CAC for nearly three months and I've never had even the slightest problem finding equipment to use immediately, including tread mills and cardio equipment. The locker rooms are kept in pristine condition and the laundry service is an invaluable addition to the gym experience. The ease and convenience of being able to leave all my workout clothes at the gym and show up whenever I want has definitely added to my motivation to workout. The staff at CAC are highly qualified, courteous and most importantly available to the members. Even the smallest questions are answered immediately. The trainers are excellent and offer their services at convenient times and for reasonable prices so that you know you're getting the full value of your gym membership. The group exercise classes are also convenient and a great addition to my regular routine. CAC is always striving to be the best and they immediately respond to customer comments. Recently they have added premium water service, and completely redone the entrance way to make it more inviting and convenient. I transferred over from uptown Gold's Gym to Charlotte Athletic Club because Gold's unexpectedly went out of business and gave members a 4 day notice (that is another story). After giving the gym a try, I was not impressed at all. The fact that people are paying $100 here just lets you know how much of a scheme it is. The bathrooms stink, the front desk associates are clueless, non-helpful, and lazy af. I had to practically beg for a tour my first time going and that just furthered my non interest. There is no view of the city, just dumb ass picture that mimics the view. This is not worth my time, money or energy. I reached out to the manager Steven Edmunds to cancel my membership and he is still giving me the run around. I was given a phone number to contact in regards to membership and when I contacted them, I was routed back to Charlotte Athletic Clubs contact information. Over the past ten years, I have been a member at five different athletic clubs (not all in the Charlotte area), and they all pale in comparison to the Charlotte Athletic Club. From the clean, spacious workout and locker room areas to the friendly staff, the CAC makes me look forward to my workout everyday. The location in the Bank of America plaza is perfect, especially for those who work uptown and need a break from the office during the day or evening. I know guys in my office love to all go over together and play a pick up game of basketball or squash. Since there are 24 hour turnaround laundering services, lockers, and all the toiletries/hair supplies needed, I really can have a hassle-free experience. The membership fee is a little higher than at other gyms, but the amount of use you will get out of this club makes it all worth the money. It really is true that you get what you pay for. read more

An incredible balance of resources. Machines, weights, cardio equipment, basketball court (so great), squash courts, sauna, steam room, spinning room, yoga/fitness room, open floor space, trx...really pretty comprehensive. More importantly, the staff is courteous without being cold, helpful without being condescending, friendly without being overly familiar. It's an environment that lets you focus on achieving your goals whatever they may be and that's been a tremendous resource for me and my colleagues. No gym is perfect for everyone but I've tried cheap gyms, really expensive gyms and those in-between in a variety of cities. This place has the approachability of a smaller neighborhood gym with the resources of some of top tier facilities. Great place. read more

Actually never stepped foot in this place, so why the bad review? Well, I was a member of Gold's gym, and that went out of business with no notice. I was told that I was "transferred" to Charlotte Athletic Club. I called to tell them that I was not interested in moving to the new gym, and to discontinue my account. I was then told that I had to give 30 days notice to cancel my membership. Remember, the gym closed without notice, and I was not a member of this gym. They then attempted to charge me credit card for three more months. I called to complain and was told to call ABC Financial. The Gym said "we don't handle billing." When I called ABC Financial, they said "we are not affiliated with the gym, we just handle billing. You have to deal with the gym to cancel." I can not get anyone at Charlotte Athletic Club to handle this issue. They maintain that they are entitled to charge my credit card because I was a member of Gold's, notwithstanding that to this day I have never stepped in Charlotte Athletic Club.
