This was my first time coming inside of Cross Street market. I went after work so unfortunately a lot of the shops were closed or were beginning to start closing. I was so hungry but, wanted something fairly light so I decided on sushi. I ordered a California roll with added spicy mayo on top. My order was ready in about 10 minutes and I devoured them in the car. So good I will definitely return when back in the area. Ordered a make-your-own poke bowl. The price was just okay for the size. I was surprised and disappointed that the puff tofu and the red rice were not hot (at best, tepid). The yum yum sauce was weak. It was not an enjoyable meal, and I usually really like poke. read more

Went here before a show at the Hippodrome and it's truly some of the best poke I've had! So many ingredients to choose from, when some I've not seen elsewhere such as avocado lime sauce. The lady who took our orders was also the sweetest and got to talking with us while making our food. I'd come back for her alone! I've not had the poke at this location yet, but I most certainly will. What I have had is their AMAZING donuts. Usually I avoid donuts, ones from Dunkin or Krispy Kreme leave a film on the top of my mouth that's suspicious. However, one day I was at my nail salon and my nail tech offered me a donut. I was about to refuse until I looked in the box and saw these oddly wavy shaped donuts - one had green frosting with a sprinkle of Fruity Pebbles and I couldn't resist it. Oh, it was so very good. I could taste the oil it was fried in, a subtle but great addition to the flavors of the frosting and Fruity Pebbles. A week or so later I was going to brunch and decided to visit Blowfish to get a dozen. The gentleman manning the register was super helpful and put together a box with 2 of each flavors they had available, plus a spare one with the Fruity Pebbles topping for me! I paid and headed to my brunch. The donuts were a hit! None remained before I left! I feel like if they've mastered donuts, the rest of their offerings must be good as well. Poke bowls seem to be really popular and I'm very curious. I saw this place on Yelp while browsing and it's very close to my office so I decided to try things out for lunch. I ordered a Regular Bowl w/ Salad * Crab Salad * Chicken * Carrots * Red Onion * Cucumber * Purple Cabbage * Avo Lime * Roasted Sesame * Sunflower Seeds * Roasted Seaweed * Crispy Onions * Green Onion. Also, a side of Hawaiian Mac salad & 2 mochi donuts (chocolate and strawberry. The bowl was a nice size and loaded with everything I asked but something was off. My taste buds just wasn't feeling it. The chicken didn't look appealing so I honestly nibbled a bit just to try it. I don't think I'll try Poke or anything if the sort again. The Hawaiian Mac salad was just noodles and shredded carrots tossed in a slight sweet sauce ... it was alright. The mochi donuts ... I wasn't a fan of the strawberry icing and the pretzels on my chocolate donut were stale. A bummer because I actually liked the chocolate donut best. I'd be open to trying the mochi donuts again but will make sure I receive a fresh batch. read more

Located in Cross Street Market (Federal Hill), access to seating, clean restrooms and other options for those in your party who may not be feeling Hawaiin. Friendly counter service with lots of options, we tried as much as we could as it all looked good from two different Ramens, Spam Musubi, Chicken Katsu and Mochiko Chicken to Mochi Donuts for dessert. Plenty of food, will start with I loved the Ramen, the kids who it was for was luke warm on it. The Spam Musubi was served warm, I liked the flavor, it was hard to eat as it broke apart rather easy. The main entrées were good, Chicken Katsu disappeared quickly (darn kids) and the Mochiko Chicken was tasty. The plates came with rice, mac salad (good, but dry) and a really good broccoli dish- really good. Wife loved it. Lived in Hawaii for seven years so some things are held to high expectations. The staff are lovely, the food serving is plentiful and tasty, and the mochi donuts are absolutely delightful. The mochi donuts are perfect; they have a light sweet flavor without being overpowering like a traditional donut. They are perfectly fluffy and slightly chewy in the best way. They truly deserve an award! I will not stop thinking about these donuts for a while. I was born and raised in Hawai'i and do have some stylistic suggestions for the kalua pig plate lunch platter, respectfully. The broccoli was an interesting addition but I didn't hate it; I actually enjoyed it. The sauce on the broccoli is near perfect in terms of flavor and could be placed on the mac salad for a more authentic plate lunch flavor. The mac salad would taste amazing with the broccoli sauce on it instead of the current mac salad sauce. The current mac sauce is still good but authentic plate lunch mac salad usually does not have cheese on it. In my opinion kalua pig should not have soy sauce on it, or try using soup soy sauce instead. It currently is a little too salty and overpowers the flavor of the pork. The pig was cooked perfectly and was deliciously juicy and tender, but the soy sauce makes the pork a little too salty. The banana leaf should bring enough flavor on its own without needing soy sauce. That was my humble opinion as a local and I still enjoyed it very much. I do appreciate the creativity and it was a delicious lunch. If you are looking for a fusion spin on Hawaiian local style food this is the place to go! I can't say it's got true authentic flavor, but it was still very delicious and I will be returning for sure! read more

How did I not know mochi donuts were available in Baltimore since November of last year?? Insane. Probably for the best because these are so amazingly delicious likely would have ordered it every occasion I had. Usually go to Annandale for mochi donuts, but have to say these ones are better. Stars for service. After working my way through all the other poke options in town, I finally got to try Blowfish. I hate to say it, but I took three or four bites of my bowl and tossed the rest. On the plus side, portions were huge. But sadly, there were too many misses for me. Rice was quite underdone, almost crynchy and not cooked even to al dente. Fish was poorly cut, lots of white connective tissue left, leading to an unpleasant mouthfeel. Limited toppings, and oddly all were very lightly flavored, including the kimchi. It was strange to take a bite and have no flavor in the kimchi or mango. I might give them a second pass in a few months to see if I just hit on a bad day. I'm from Hawaii so I may be over critical on the food but I know what things should taste like as I was raised on them. I order pick up on my way home from work since it was on the way. I ordered chicken katsu, spam musubi, a side of Mac salad, an ube donut, a chocolate donut, 2 Hawaiian suns and a regular bowl with tuna, some toppings and no rice. Service was ok, there were 2 people working, one helping customers and one cooking. Neither looked thrilled to be there, but they weren't rude. I didn't see anywhere to pick up food so I stood at the register, as soon as I got there it seemed someone else was ordering so I waited my turn but was never really greeted. Once the other customer was helped I told the employee I was here to pick up an order and was handed 2 bags and then the employee went to help customer. I checked my order and everything seemed to be there aside from the drinks. I waited about 5 minutes before the employee acknowledged I was still there and I asked about my drinks. They handed them to me and apologized. The employee cooking walked up from twice and looked at me but never acknowledged me. I'm torn about the food. By the time I got home the food was cold, I dont blame them for this but I think it bares mentioning. The tuna bowl was fine, it's hard to mess up raw fish with toppings and sauce that I asked for. The Chicken katsu was ok, it didn't come with katsu sauce like I expected and love but what ever sauce was on it was fine. I did not care for the musubi, it fell apart, the rice was dry and hard, and the spam was over cooked and hard. I did not get the right donuts. Both were Easter themed and tasted fine but seemed like they were out all day. One of my Hawaiian suns were cool but not cold the other was warm. The most disappointing thing to me was the Mac salad, this was nothing like local Mac salad. I can't describe how terrible this was, it wasn't even good for what ever it was. I'm extremely disappointed I wasted money on it. Overall I'm disappointed. I'm willing to try them again but won't order it to go or for delivery. read more

Finally got a chance to try this place which has been on my list for months! I cannot rave enough about the service here. The older gentleman serving me was unbelievably nice--he took such great care compiling my poke bowl and gave me a free bottle of water because it was such a warm day! The other woman working there was also extremely friendly and warm. All the food was incredible! I got a delicious poke bowl with tuna, salmon and crab salad. I ordered here today since the food truck was near my work. I placed an online order at 1039am with a pickup time of 1130am. I ordered a bowl of tuna poke, veggies and spicy mayo, a shrimp tempura box, and kahlua pork sliders. I went to the food truck at 1130 and was greeted by some friendly people chatting in the truck. However, my order had not even been started. The lady at the window asked me what time I placed my order and I guess she realized it was a while ago since she didnt say much to me after printing the ticket. Absolutely the best donuts I've have in my entire life. I had heard several neighbors rave about how good the Blowfish Poke donuts were, so I went there out of curiosity - they completely blew my mind! The donuts were the perfect mixture of soft and firm, not overly sweet but extremely flavorful, and with a unique shape that allows for optimal sharing. Not to mention the sheer diversity in flavors - from eggnog to beignets! My personal favorite was the mango! If you are even close to Cross St. Market, you need to go and try them. read more

The poke combinations are not the best and they didn't mix my food well in addition they got my order wrong. I do not recommend this spot for poke connoisseurs. I can't speak for the donuts, as I resisted, but the poke bowl was delicious! I loved the red rice base, which I combined with a scoop of salmon (which the server mixed with a topping of my choice (cilantro, and I believe some sesame oil), a scoop of crab salad, and a bunch of veggies, e.g., edamame, red cabbage, carrots, and crispy fried onions! The fish was perfectly fresh and cut nicely. The sauces were yummy as well. The woman/owner (I think) is super nice and was rightly proud to have won two different awards for their Poke bowls. I decided to give this place a try. I ordered tempura shrimp, small poke bowl with salmon, and spam musubi. Shrimp was my favorite, it was crunchy, tasted fresh, and really large. The eel sauce on the side went really well with it too. The spam musubi was very weird, the spam itself had a great sauce on top but it wasn't really grilled on each side and it seemed like the sauce was just brushed on top instead of caramelized on the spam like traditional style. Also the seaweed didn't even wrap around the entire musubi? It was more of a cosmetic strip placed only on the top half? Really weird. Unfortunately the poke was my least favorite of the bunch. I paid 1.50 extra for double salmon as my protein and I feel like it was not a decent portion at all. The sauces were generously drizzled on top which I like, but I also noticed that everything tasted really wet mixed all together, and not like really saucy wet but more like if the carrots and the cabbage were not drained and had a bunch of water which I think thinned out all of the sauces and made it really wet. I couldn't finish all of the bowl because there was just not enough salmon and that was really the only thing that I liked in the bowl. Over all I think they are just okay, some things were good, and some were not. Perhaps their cooked rice bowls are better and their donuts did look pretty. Was really hoping for great poke here since it seems like they have other locations in MD that have a large following. The customer service was great also. read more

I have seen this place when it first opened and then now and it is astonishing to how much has changed. I went here a few days ago and I did get a bowl and a couple of the new items I didn't see before like the dumplings and ramen. I can tell when an ownership is trying to do to much and this is a great example. I cannot read anything on the Poke menu anymore because it is so cramped and squished. For a poke place, there are way too many menu items to choose from. The bowl that I had was good as last time but it was the new items that really missed for me. The "ramen" did not have actual ramen noodles but rather chinese egg noodles and I could see that the ramen base came from a paste and not house-made. As a Japanese-Hawaiian this could not be classified as ramen and the hard-boiled egg is all I need to see to tell that this wasn't an actual ramen. I can tell that the dumplings were pre-made and it is a shame that I pay $11 when I can get an entire grocery store pack for less. I would try the other new items but I am scared based on how this went. I really enjoyed this place during my first visit but this time I felt the need to leave a review and I hope the owners can fix this. I give two stars as the service was great but I cannot go any higher as these new menu items were a complete miss. This store should really stick to poke and I would not recommend trying any of the items outside of the bowls. read more

absolutely adore this place. i don't leave reviews often but they really deserve it! my favorite is the chicken katsu- the portion is HEFTY for the price and the sides are just as good as the main dish. very crispy, flavorful, juicy, and the sauces are fantastic. mac salad and broccoli salad pair so well with the heavy chicken because they're so light and yummy. i would buy those themselves as a meal too. and the donuts?!?! so delicious! chewy and have such unique, tasty flavors. id come here just for these too as they do large donut orders! i highly recommend this place, they're my comfort food read more
